Good News, everyone! The Grinch will not be stealing Christmas this year! The Bad News is that Santa has been slightly detained due to unforeseen circumstances. Before you get your pixies in a pinch, the situation is under control! Santa's twin brother Krampus will be more than happy to guide his sleigh tonight. They share the same genes; they're brothers; for tinsel's sake, what could possibly go wrong...or missing?
Normally, Friendly Fox Studios games are quite lengthy, but surprisingly, this one only has 3 Main Chapters (and a CE Bonus Chapter). With only three chapters, the story moves along quickly and, at times, seems a bit rushed. There are lots of elves and adorable fantasy critters to give the game an "awe" feel, but it also tends to be a little on the dark side with Santa's evil doppelganger Krampus. They used rich colors with brown hues, and many scenes are dimly lit, which takes away from the Christmassy vibe. For me personally, The Christmas Curse is a good game, but I was kind of expecting sugar plums, candy canes, adorable magical creatures, and snowbanks filled with glittery snow??

There's no doubt that Graphium Studios picks the most "Incredible Art" images for every new release, hands down! Y'all know how much I love unicorns, so I just had to give this new game a whirl. I gotta tell ya; I really wasn't expecting anything other than a simplistic Paint By Numbers scenario ...boy was I surprised!
If painting games aren't your thing, you'll probably want to pass on this one. If you want a relaxing clicking game that transforms a black-and-white sketch into a vibrant picture that practically comes to life before your eyes, this is it.ย
Graphium Studios added a little feature twist to this new series (hint hint). You still have the traditional option to click on a numbered area or color pallet to fill in each area, OR you can click the mouse scroll wheel on a specific area to pull up the correct pallet color, then simply left-click to fill in the color automatically. I really liked this feature because it allowed me to complete entire sections versus having to search all over to find all the areas in numerical order. Once you get the hang of it, you can go on a clicking spree and watch areas come to life with all the colors of the rainbow.๐จ

Searchscape is a decent HOG with brightly colored AI graphics and the usual flare...but gee whiz, guys, does everyone have to jump on the HOG Bandwagon? Are there no other developers willing to create games in any other genre for Big Fish other than the same 5-6 developers they currently have? I used to look forward to the daily game because there was always something new and exciting to play. Now I log on and wonder which HOG developer will offer which travel-related HOG today.
Searchscape seems to be a short game with just five chapters. Each chapter has a single Hidden Object Scene, a Spot The Difference scene, a Matching Pairs game, a Match 3 game, and a Jigsaw with shaped pieces.
To unlock the next chapter, you have to replay the Hidden Object Scene three times in three modes (Text-Silhouetted Shapes-Pictured Items). There are three Gold Coins to find, and each scene has a single Zoom Zone. I did have difficulty clicking on some items, which took 3-4 clicks before the click was recognized and the object removed. You can purchase items to fancy up your house with the coins found/earned.
On a side note, I did find a listed object to seem irresponsible because it depicted a prescription bottle lying on its side, with no lid and half of the pills spewing out. Yes, it's just a game, but for some reason, it doesn't sit well with me, especially when kids will potentially play this game. I just think we need to portray prescriptions more responsibly...or just ditch that unnecessary object altogether.
The Spot the Difference scenes must be played twice, in an Easy Mode and a Hard Mode. Honestly, I couldn't "spot the differences" between the two difficulty modes; both modes are very easy.
The Matching Pairs scene must be played twice in Easy Mode and Hard Mode (The objects rotate in a circle on the Hard Mode). BTW: this is a super simplistic scene, even in the Hard Mode, with objects pasted on a plain white background.
The Match 3 game must be played twice, in Easy Mode and Hard Mode. The Hard Mode requires making multiple matches to remove the selected objects. The Match 3 game is very basic, and you have to wait for the tiles to stop dropping before making your next match.ย
The Jigsaw must be played twice in an Easy Mode and Hard Mode. The jigsaw puzzle pieces are shaped similar to the Springfield Map puzzles by Casual Arts. Both modes are super easy because there are very few details in the puzzle images.

Professor Newman has always admired Edgar Allen Poe's literary talents, but he never dreamed that he would someday meet the man responsible for his successful career...ย after all, Poe has been dead for over a hundred years!ย ย
If Death summoned you, would you answer the call?ย During Halloween, lost souls are able to complete their unfinished business, allowing them passage to the afterlife. Death believes the Professor's expansive knowledge of Poe's literary work will help Edgar complete his last novella and move on.
To complete his novella, Poe needs three Inspirational Sparks: a beginning, a climax, and a denouement. Unfortunately, Professor Newman must enter the realms of three of Poe's creepiest novels, beginning with "The Masque of the Red Death,"... where the moral of the story is that death is inevitable!

Darkwood Tales is a HOPA that barely crosses the threshold of HOG to HOPA. There are no voiceovers or character movements. The characters just fade in and out with dialog boxes to read, in typical Magnussoft style.ย
The storyline is a bit slow-moving initially, but it does pick up once you are in the castle. It isn't a nail-biter plot that has you hanging on the edge of your seat in anticipation of what happens next. However...
What the game lacks can easily be overlooked because of what it doesn't lack, which are some pretty unique features, particularly regarding the Hidden Object Scenes. I own thousands of games and have played every HOPA available, but I have never encountered a Hidden Object Scene with a sound clip versus text!ย The goal is to listen to the soundbite and locate the animal that made that particular sound, such as a cricket chirping, a bee buzzing, or the rat-a-tat-ta of a woodpecker....very cool! Kudos to the Magnussoft team- Vivian Hofmann, Maik Heinzig, Matthias Gotz, that's how youย "๐

The Hidden Object Scenes vary with standard Listed Items, Silhouetted Shapes, and Multiples of the same type, such as 4 Buttons and 4 Moths. Some of the items are hidden behind objects, and I couldn't help but laugh when I had to move a huge rock to find a delicate flower hidden underneath.ย
The mini-games have been fun but nothing cutting-edge so far. I don't think a mini-game puzzle has to be complex to be enjoyable, but it's always nice to have various difficulties throughout the game. There are memory match games where you flip over two leaves at a time to find matching animal tracks, cycle through square tiles to recreate an image, a "Blocks" variation, and a game where you have to drag keywords and phrases to complete a town flyer.
As I stated earlier, this HOPA probably isn't going to blow your socks off or knock you off the computer chair. But it is way better than some of the latest BF offerings...not to mention it's at the Standard Edition price of just $6.99! If I'm judging this game as a whole, I'd probably only give it 3 Stars, but (ใฃโโกโ)ใฃ โฅ I'm going to add an extra star because I want more developers to get on board and offer standard edition HOPAs!!!!!!! โฅ

I have just finished playing the demo with my 9-year-old grandson, Wesley. We had a blast playing Reef Life together, and we were both bummed when the demo ended, so we bought it...and it was eligible for the BOGO!
Wesley asked me how to write a review, and I told him to make me a list of the features he liked or didn't like about the game so we could tell others why they should buy the game, too.
WESLEY'S PRO's:
-Finding the items was fun
-Seeing a donut in the water with a fish was funny
-Dragging the task items to the right place was cool
-Spot the Differences is my favorite game. I also liked the jigsaw puzzles
-It's colorful (he also added that he is colorblind, which made some items harder to find)
-I liked finding Dolphins and Pearls, but sometimes I forgot to look for them

Although the items are fairly easy to find, it was still enjoyable if you are looking for a relaxing, colorful HOG. Wesley and I haven't completed the game, but so far, the scenes have more to do with the resort part of "Reef Life," and I was really hoping to see more scenes WITHIN the reef. The title itself is what actually grabbed my attention because I'm tired of every HOG being travel-related, and it would have been a refreshing change to have an underwater-themed game! (but we haven't completed the game, so perhaps it will get more nautical-themed as we progress)
The mini-games are the standard STD, Match 3, Memory Match, Mahjong (which I hate), word search, and puzzle variations (I do appreciate that the jigsaw puzzles are larger than normal).ย
Each scene has 3 Dolphins and 3 Pearls to find. Finding all 180 Dolphins unlocks the Unlimited Mode, and finding all 180 Pearls unlocks Bonus Mini-games.

I'd like to point out that I have only just entered the third scene. Here, I have to repair wheels to move a cart, find and replace clock hands, glue a clown motif, and clean up a glob of sticky green goo. Can this game be any more generic?

I don't mind playing an easy HOPA game once in a while. I can even overlook a ridiculous storyline now and then, but for Fright's sake, is this the best scenario you can come up with Domini? Are you telling me that not a single person on your team can think of a different task to use other than the ones you repeat over and over, in every single game? I guarantee that everyone who has played any Domini game in the past can picture those above-mentioned tasks and know exactly what is required to solve every one of them.

I haven't read a single review since its inception that has anything positive to say about earning a giant gold star. This extended play scenario isn't new. The feature was simply shown as an icon with or without a chain around it in the past. If so many people complain about this feature, why not revert back to the original scenario... do our opinions matter so little?

No pressure, Casual Arts, but I'm hoping Halloween: Trick or Treat will become a yearly Halloween tradition. It isn't Christmas until Christmas Wonderland is released, so let's start a new Autumn tradition by offering a new Trick or Treat every year...Casual Arts style!
Halloween: Trick or Treat 3 is entertaining and addicting, and the graphics will blow you away! Every time I play a new game by this developer, I'm stunned by the amount of detail Casual Arts puts into each one. This is why so many people purchase their games without bothering to play the demo. Casual Arts have gained our loyalty because they have earned our trust for so many years!

You can play in a Casual Mode (untimed-faster hint recharge), a Challenge Mode (timed-normal hint recharge), or Extreme Mode (only available in the CE version), a timed mode where you must find all Lost & Found items and all Golden Pumpkins on each level.

Words listed in Blue are Tasks that require an interaction of some type (longer descriptions are shown when you place your cursor on the blue word), and words in Red are hidden inside or behind things (a magnifying glass will appear when you scan the area). Most of the scenes have at least one sparkling Zoom Zone, as well.

You will earn an Eagle Eye achievement if you don't use either the Hint Magnifying Glass, which shows the location of a single random item, or the Mega Hint feature, which briefly shows the location of all available items from the list. You'll earn a Bronze Star for completing the HO Scene, a Silver Star if you find all Golden Pumpkins OR all Lost & Found Items, and a Gold Star if you find all Golden Pumpkins AND all Lost & Found items. (extreme mode requires you to find all recyclable items & wildlife)

Twistingo just eclipsed into a whole new galaxy! This developer knows how to put the Mix into Mixo Games, bringing us a fantabulous Hidden Object game with a splendiferous twist. Blue Moon is challenging yet incredibly fun...this ain't your granny's old-fashioned HOG. So scootch your computer chair up to the puter, grab a cuppa Joe, and buckle in for the long haul.
The first thing that catches your eye, as do all Mixo Games, is the vibrant hues of the flora & fauna in these tropical isles.ย Unfortunately, the island is under a Blue Moon icy curse, so you'll have to search for Moonstones during the layered HO scenes to remove the icy curse.
The main Hidden Object scenes are very complex and multi-faceted. There are Riddled Clues and Multiples of a whole slew of items that are very cleverly blended into the scenery. As you progress, you'll be tasked with finding a tool that will allow you to delve even deeper into the scene while opening new Zoom Zones.
Some of the items are linked to a mini-game, including the infamous Twisting Bingo game, where you click on numbered balls that match the numbers on the Bingo card. I loved the Blocked Doors mini-game, where you had to remove blocked doors in a specified direction, according to the arrows, until the field was cleared. There is also a Mahjong Matching game and a Higher/Lower Solitaire game as well.
Some items prompt aย different HO variation.ย There are two HO variations. The first variation is a Matching Pairs HO that is deeply layered with hundreds of beautiful items. You simply click on two identical items to remove them. My favorite level was the one where you first remove matching water lilies, followed by the lily pads, and then colorful tree frogs, snails, and finally beautiful fish...very pretty and so relaxing.
The second variation is also deeply layered, but in this variation, you remove multiple items that are listed on scraps of paper. As you remove items, more listed items are uncovered until you reach the bottom of the layered pile. Both variations are actually quite challenging; in fact, one of the levels had two large, slowly turning gears with items hidden within.
This is not a typical Hidden Object Game. Mixo Games has somehow managed to put a Twist into a typical HOG...but then again, that's what they do best!
