So this is not for everyone and I fit into the "everyone" category. I just couldn't get into it. After I got the hang of it in the first room (the Professor's apartment although all I saw was a desk and books) you go into this hidden room and then voila! you are suddenly in a prison cell. I don't know about you, but if I was looking at a picture and suddenly ended up in a prison cell, I would have some choice words and then be screaming at the top of my lungs. Nope. He looks around and says "oh this guy got tortured". It's just pretty weird. Play the demo and see if it's your "thing".
Wow. I haven't seen this bad of a game in a while. It's like a child did the graphics and then turned around and wrote the instructions. That means that the graphics are basic, and the instructions are terrible. I am so very glad I played the demo.

I'm not sure why people are giving this game 4 or 5 stars. My review is based on the demo so maybe it gets better? But I am not going to waste my money to find out.
This game is drab with the colors. That's OK initially but after a while it gets depressing.
There is absolutely no challenge to this game so if you are at least an intermediate player, don't expect much. When you get an object, it is obvious what to do with it. The puzzles are beyond easy. Not one of them took any time to finish. ZZZZZ
There is no way to click your mouse to get the dialogue to go faster. The bartender almost made me end the game as she spoke so slowly and I couldn't speed it up. Geez
I finished the demo well before the given 90 and would have finished even faster if the dialogue could be sped up.
A lot of died-in-the-wool MCF fans have been giving this a low rating, as it should be IF you are only looking for another MCF game. I get it since it IS called MCF. BUT if you are willing to play a new game by Grandma and not compare it to its namesake, then it's a great game. This is especially true for those of us that like a LOT of puzzles. And I do mean a lot of puzzles. Some were quite easy, while others were a challenge even for a puzzle freak like myself. If you are looking for another HOP game, keep looking because this ain't it. There are very few HOPs and those that are in this game are very easy.
PROS Tons of puzzles Long game Not a lot of back and forth
CONS Not a lot of HOPs Some puzzles have POOR instructions (how about telling us that ALL of the pieces need to be used) Storyline is disjointed and takes a while to make any kind of sense. Dark colors
I would probably not have bought this if I had only played the demo since, like I said above, the story takes a while to get going. So don't just play the demo and give it up. Especially if you like a good puzzle game.
I have been waiting for this to come out and waited until I had two credits so I could buy it that way. Imagine my disappointment when I played the demo only to find out it was lame! I guess the good new is that I have 2 credits to go find something else to buy, but geez.
I have played all of the MCF games and loved the majority of them. But this one had absolutely NO challenge to it. The games/puzzles were so easy that a grade school aged kid could do them (or maybe a GrandMa???). No skill was needed for the puzzles nor the "HOPs".
I guess if you like easy games, this might be for you. BUT PLAY THE DEMO to see if it's your cup of tea. Eipix please come back!!!!
I have always enjoyed the MCF games and this one is not really any different. The puzzles are awesome! There are multiple puzzles that have multiple parts to them before getting the "reward". Those are my absolute favorite. Some are very easy and some will likely have you heading to the Guide for a little help (guilty!!).
It is a bit dark but that seems to be the MCF way. If you want bright lights and unicorns, this game is not going to be for you.
My only issue is that I think the storyline got confusing and especially the end. I might actually play it again just to see what it was all about.
This is an awful game! I only played the demo but I would not recommend this game to anyone. Someone wrote that the game gets better after the first chapter. Didn't anyone tell the developers that first impressions are everything? I just cannot see paying for a game that can't grab my attention from the get-go.
The storyline seems interesting but there's no way I would be able to get very far into the game to see how it progresses. This is the only reason to give this game more than one star.
Please play the demo, or use a free game code if you are really adventurous.
This game has a lot of high and a lot of low ratings. Honestly, I can't figure out the low ratings unless your idea of playing a game is to have ONLY good music and characters. That's not me. I want to play the game so I want puzzles and HOPs.
The storyline is not bad. The intro tells you exactly what is going on which is something I appreciate. Oftentimes, you get to the end of a game and have no clue what has been happening only to have the developer spend several minutes explaining everything to you. Why did I have to wait until the end to know what was going on? This is not like that. I thought the story progressed from the beginning to the end.
The games were quite good. The puzzles were a mixed bag with some being extremely easy and one or two taking a bit of time to figure out (I had a bit of trouble with the constellation one). Similarly, some of the HOPs were really easy with the objects being in plain view. Other times, you had to move objects around to find things and/or use objects to find others.
You had the option to see areas where you were to look for a collectible. I liked that! Too many times you play a game and never know if there is a collectible in the scene and spend too much time looking for something that is not there.
I have played several of the House of 1000 Doors and enjoyed them all...until this one.
I am not even sure where to start....
First of all, it has a bug when I try to run it. There is a flickering in the text bar that will go away if I continue to click on it (about 5 times). This is not only my problem as it shows up on multiple blogs.
And then there is the main character. Others have said this but her voice was one of the worst character voices ever. Apparently the developer couldn't get a real person to read the script so used a computer voice (think the computer in War Games - shall we play a game?). It was that bad. I turned off the sound but then had to rely on the flickering text. So much for having a relaxing time playing a game.
The hand of light? You cannot be serious. Who thought it would be a great idea to get rid of an infected object by using your mouse to trace a few lines? ALL OF THE TIME!!! Not just once or twice, mind you. It was every scene. And there was no skill. Just time consuming mouse movement.
I stopped playing after about 15 minutes as I could no longer take the flickering and tracing. If you don't get the flickering and can stand tracing a few lines then this might be your game. PLEASE play the demo. I could save you some $ not to mention time. I wish I had.
