From the outset I thought Lost Legends could be a fine game. Alas, I was wrong. The story line holds promise in that the Weeping Woman stealing children has a bit of originality due to her losing hers to a philandering husband. The detective is tasked to rescue the kids and find out why the abductions. Unfortunately then the game starts. Are a lot of us getting tired and bored with the same game design. In this case it's another door with the handle missing. Why cannot the door just open for once. Why is it that with a Mexican setting all the characters speak English and very well to boot. Would it not be great if we were given a game with subtitles ? I also thought it was silly that after the player completes a puzzle, said player is given a peso to access a newspaper kiosk. However the newspaper is in English in the same Mexican town. Give me a break!! Technically the game is quite grainy and has a bit too cartoonish a look for a subject matter that is so serious. The hidden object scenes are done well with some interactivity involved. The puzzles in the demo were either too easy or somewhat confusing such as aligning a bunch of skulls in a set pattern. The directions could have been clearer. We get to find morphing flowers and finding concealed golden skulls. I do not know if doing so adds to solving the game. I am also concerned as to the length of the game given that I completed the demo in 39 minutes. It is only my thought but there has not been a truly fine or original game in at least a couple months. This one might have been a keeper but the developer cuts too many corners and just rehashes what we have seen countless times within game play itself. Other than the story line, I have nothing to recommend as favorable.
I don't recommend this game.

The first Nevertale saga was very well done and I added it to my collection of games. So I was enthused when I saw that Mad Head, who create wonderful stuff, had added to the series. Unfortunately the game started slowly and never got up to speed. The story line about Alice being kidnapped and trapped in a glass prison of sorts just didn't cut it with me. Her parents who are supposed to be adept in this fantasy world just seemed helpless beyond belief. As in the first game, Maria the shaman was the only engrossing character in the demo. I did enjoy the bits of different Ho segments but all of the puzzles were way to easy. Some of the fantasy type games are very compelling indeed such as the Dark Parables and the Awakening games. This Nevertales edition falls far short of being worthwhile. Too bad, what with a discount being offered today for games. I cannot recommend the CE at all and I doubt the SE version can be acceptable as well. Back to the drawing board, Mad Head. You struck out on this one.
I don't recommend this game.

Mad Head has done it again with its fantastic installment Hide and Seek. Some may recall the previous Rite of Passage game Children of the Forest which for me is absolutely in the top 3 of games issued last year. This game comes close to being its equal however its predecessor still is favored. While the story line is nothing new, how it is presented places a bit of a twist to make it compelling nonetheless. The game is visually stunning with Mad Head terrific graphics. Hidden object scenes are well done and having different types of things to accomplish within a given scene is refreshing. The puzzles are not mind blowing hard but they are interesting. The CE version is preferable to this SE but both games offer lots to do. Players who cannot afford the CE or who wish to avoid wallpaper etc. certainly should find the SE a gem of a game. Hide and Seek gets an enthusiastic thumbs up !!
I recommend this game!

This game is another dismal effort. The developer usually gives us players reasonable entries. This installment is nothing short of disastrous. The story line is trite and shopworn. We have seen this premise countless times before. Another shipwrecked boat leads us to an old timer who warns us of impending doom.
Of course our heroine must take on the quest and so on and so forth. The graphics in this game are rather grainy and not up to the developer's standards. The hidden object scenes are run of the mill and the puzzles are really easy. ( At least in the demo ) Game makers recently have an obsession with providing us with animal helpers who sometimes act smarter than the main character. This time it's a pooch and I named mine Weiner. I don't know and I don't care where this game will take us as I will never consider a purchase. I have said it many times in prior reviews of games that IMO developers are cranking out new stuff with such rapidity that creativity and common sense are both severely lacking. I start to wonder if BFG is complicit since it promises a new game every day. The problem is we are not getting NEW GAMES.
More and more often we get the same suit with a different color and a different hat. Newer players might enjoy this rehash but I cannot imagine that veteran HO and HOPA players can find this anything but cold leftovers. At least I'm not spending any money. See you later as I plan on revisiting one of the great games I already have in my repertoire. Avoid A Matter of Time since it is an utter waste of time.
I don't recommend this game.

I always like to see a new developer so when I read the new creator I felt good. Things started to go downhill from there. First of all, the game is SLOOWWWW, really slow. The cutscenes take forever to finish. Most of the cuts could have been shortened by 75% without harming the intent. I did like that the main character Morgiana was often seen in the cuts. Since we are playing as she this is enlightening. Too many games have the protagonist as never being seen. I did not mind Jack the mouse as a helper given the extreme fantasy nature of the game. The hidden object segments have things well hidden which is a plus and some of the puzzles are original. The instructions for a lot of the puzzles though left much to be desired which led me to skip a couple of them. While there is a map, it does not illustrate where to go if something is to be accomplished in a section. To almost everyone's consternation, the dreaded "nothing can be done here " shows up when a section has nothing to be done for a given time. I often felt overwhelmed by the multitude of items in the inventory. I think at one time I had a dozen things. Way too many. The graphics were very well done. There is some good to be said about Morgiana, however the overall clunkiness of the game and the snail paced cut scenes lead me to give the game a thumbs down. I think other reviewers will share this opinion and I hope the developer ( who shows some promise for the future ) will take heed. As I said in my intro..... this could have been good.
I don't recommend this game.

The Myths of the World series from Eipix is one of the better collections available to gamers. Fiends and Fairies is no exception. Once again we are tasked to defeat an evildoer and save the fairy world. The player is aided by Orna the fairy and as the game progresses many fairy folk are encountered, some helpful, others not so. One of the things I enjoyed was the Irish accent given to the fairies. As is usually the case, Eipix graphics are well done. The hidden object scenes are a bit different than the norm and most are quite easy to complete. The puzzles are all doable with some taking a bit more effort than others. I bought the CE version and if it is within your means, the CE is the way to go. Not only are the collectibles fun to acquire but the bonus chapter is fairly long and adds to the overall story . However, for those of you on a tighter budget, the SE version is sure to appeal. This game is FUN and very whimsical. It will keep a smile on your face. I recommend it highly. Enjoy !!
I recommend this game!

When I started the game and saw Orneon was the creator I was pleased as most of their games are successes, particularly the fantastic Echoes of the Past series. Unfortunately the Flower of Shadow comes no where near Orneon' past accomplishments. The story line is so fantastic ( in a bad way ) as to make it totally implausible. Another run of the mill daughter kidnapped for some nefarious reason by the bad guy rehash. I would like it very much for devs to put thinking caps on and CREATE. I would like that Orneon allow its characters to move lips when they speak. Is that such a stretch? The puzzles and HO scenes are mundane and offer nothing we haven't seen over and over again. I sometimes think a little animal helper is OK and kind of cute. But a guinea pig that doubles as a flashlight it too far over the top.
There are flowers to collect, who cares!!. I do not recall previous Secrets of the Dark games and if the prior ones are as disastrous as Flower is, that's probably the reason . I would not want to recall such drivel. It is unfortunate that IMO
not too many solid new games have been offered of late. This is giving me the chance to revisit older games in my repertoire such as the excellent Lonely Hearts Killer that I recently replayed. I think the folks at Orneon were on some mind bending hallucinogen in putting this bomb together. Avoid it at any cost.
I don't recommend this game.

When I saw a new HE game to try I was thrilled. When I recalled that Eipix had taken over the franchise the thrill grew. But then the game started. My overall impression is that the level of challenge in this Crown game has been diminished. All of the earlier HE games have some tough nuts to crack and this game
( based solely on the demo ) was just too easy. The story line is predictable in that some bad dude wants powers untold by obtaining a legendary artifact which is now scattered to the four winds. Our detective must stop him and thus save the planet. The graphics are somewhat fuzzy and certainly not up to Eipix standards. The hidden object scenes and all of the puzzles in the demo can be handled by a smart child. There are some little things in the game, as in lots of games, that bother me. For example when the detective is heading from Istanbul to the Arctic Circle the player is led to believe that the trip can be made in a helicopter without once refueling. Impossible !! When in the Arctic Circle the bad guys overrun our gal at gunpoint. At the start of the game, someone is shot and killed by the same baddie but the detective is not. They elect to sink a ship she's on instead. Now if she's shot, end of game. So just leave the gun out of the picture. Sure I'm nitpicking but I hate to have my intelligence insulted by mindless development. I have enjoyed all of the HE games except Devil's Triangle and the Smithsonian game is a gem. I cannot see myself ever purchasing Crown in the CE version. I may need to twist my own arm to obtain the SE later on. Time will tell. Bummer !!
I don't recommend this game.

Initially I thought the game would be an unmitigated disaster. For starters the download took 35 minutes on my extremely fast computer. I actually had time for breakfast and a shower and the download was only 92% completed when I returned to the PC. The storyline at the outset is nothing novel, girl has mom taken away as a child and 10 years later our heroine is tasked to rescue mom. HO HUM !! It's at this point the game gets somewhat interesting. On the plus side, the scenery is often stunning. The story improves in a fantasy world and our gal proceeds to get closer to mom by doing certain puzzles, some of which were a bit challenging and of course finding hidden objects. Some of them were cleverly placed. Our gal also has a shard fragment by which she can locate journal pages and items or fragments of items which will prove useful in her quest.
On the downside, the game seems a bit clunky at times and the hint meter even in the easiest mode ( which I always use in a trial ) is slow to recharge. For those players who are thrilled with fantasy based games, Dreaming Garden should appeal particularly given it is an SE version from the getgo.
This isn't up to the standards of the Dark Parable series or the Awakening group but it does have appeal. I can see myself using a free game code to acquire it at some point. The developer in one unfamiliar to me and except for the exceedingly slow download the dev does show an ability to create something good. If it survives in a pressure laden industry, we might be beneficiaries of better things to come.
HOPA fans overall will like the game.
I recommend this game!

Some SE games are really fine and some are awful. Fright lands somewhere in the middle. The opening cutscene is done well but with a vehicle crashing it's something we have seen way too many times. Therefore a minus for originality. The bus driver ( after the crash ) actually seems to speak English which is a plus given that so many lips in games are out of synch with spoken words. A mom later on is also spot on but an older lady and a hotel employee are not in synch. I don't know what to make of that. The graphics are well done and real people are used for characters. This is also a plus.
I enjoyed the way the HO scenes are handled in that there is much interaction needed to finish each one. All of the puzzles in the demo ( 52 minutes for me to complete ) were
very easy. I hope they toughen up some as the game continues.
All in all Fright holds some interest for me. The title seems a misnomer as there is nothing at all scary about the game. There is an element of creep factor in it. I'd like to see where Fright goes so I will someday use a free game code to pick it up. The developer needs to clean up its act some as this could have been a terrific entry. There are just a bit too many developer created glitches and a lack of originality for me to give it any more than 3 stars. I give the game a lukewarm recommendation.
I recommend this game!
