This is a good long game with fun side tasks like making shell necklaces and fishing. You switch between the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew as you help each other solve your respective cases. There are friendly and quirky other characters to interact with, and a video game you can play. As always, you get a second chance if you die so you can try another strategy but it's a good idea to periodically save your game progress. You have 35 save slots. These are always good quality games with plenty to do. I did, however, have the game quit on me twice near the beginning, the first time losing my progress, so again, save your games just in case. After that it ran fine though with no further problems at all.
Who is the Crimson Thief? Can Mortimer piece together the clues to finding all the stolen items? There is much more to this new mystery than meets the eye.

I'm not a fan of the Mortimer Beckett games--let's get that out of the way up front. I did kind of enjoy the Lost King, but these other ones are just too much work and not enough fun. There really isn't any story to speak of and no character development, no spoken dialog, and the background sounds and music were annoying.
If you like Mortimer Beckett games, well, this is another one and you'll probably like this one too. If you have any doubt, however, I'd advise you play the demo before buying. I wish I had.

In this one, you don't talk with other characters as much, and there is no night and day switching/time passing. Instead, you are placed in a location and have to find all the active areas/items available, and then match them together, two at a time. Like finding a slingshot and then clicking the ammo you'll use with it. Sometimes, finding the active items/areas, can be very challenging. Some items don't activate (sparkle) until you perform certain other actions or matches so they don't sparkle the first time your cursor passes over a place, but will after you do something else.
This game was a lot of fun, and fairly long. It took me two days of playing several hours each day. Some of the mini games get very hard after the first time or two that you play them, but perseverance got me through them all. You can replay them as many times as it takes to succeed. There is no way to die in this game, so no stress there.
The voice acting is top-notch, as with most Nancy Drew games. The music matched the scenes and was not overly repetitive or annoying.
Overall, a very good game and one worth checking out. Unfortunately, with no demo, you kind of have to base your expectations on the reviews, but I think most adventure gamers would enjoy this. One thing, though, if you're looking for a hidden object game, this isn't one. There isn't a single hidden object scene.

The voiceovers were pretty good, and the mouths even matched the English words, which impressed me. The music fit the mood and wasn't distracting or overly-repetitive. The graphics were good, and the game ran fine on my older PC.
The story is much like the House of a 1,000 doors series, so not very original, but it was entertaining.
My only beef was the ending, which seemed to have forgotten some loose ends. Still, I enjoyed the game.

After struggling through the Time Paradox episode and hating every minute of it, I wasn't looking forward to playing the rest of the Mortimer Beckett games I'd already purchased. This game, however, was a pleasant treat. I enjoyed this one much more.
The game ran fine. The music was nice and Mortimer's voice over was well done. The puzzles weren't too hard. There were no actual hidden object scenes although you do need to pick up items that are hidden in each scene. You will use those items in other places to receive parts of jewels. There are eight chapters.
If in doubt, play the demo, but I found this one fun and fairly long.

I got a good three hours of play out of this game, so not overly short but not long either. I felt like I got my money's worth.
There are live video actors that progress the story although most of the game is drawn or uses photos for the people.
Voice acting varies a lot. The little girl is the worst, her father not much better, but the two at the beginning did a pretty good job.
There were a few puzzles, which you can skip but some are very easy. There are list hidden object scenes with a few items hidden behind things that you have to move first. There are also morphing scenes that you use too charge your crystal. Those were a fun challenge. There are lots of locations and a fair bit of back and forth running around.
The game ran fine for me and I never ran into a dead end. It's not a super high end game, but it was entertaining enough for an afternoon. Give the demo a try and see what you think.

This is a long game. It took me two Sundays and then some to finish it. There are a lot of hidden object locations/scenes and they do repeat but with different items and some same items placed in different spots. You earn money for finding items. You need to collect 6 gems in each scene (each time you visit) to get extra cash. You spend the cash on improvements to the magic school.
The characters in the game are well-developed and likeable. The voice acting is excellent. The graphics are cartoony but fit the mood of the game just fine. You get a lot of fun gameplay for your money in this game.

Very few puzzles and those were pretty easy except for the "find the differences" which I completed failed. Luckily there is a skip button. This is an older game with poor graphics. Many hidden objects are either very tiny or blend into dark backgrounds around the periphery of the scene. It's also very short--about two hours. It's not an awful game but there are so many that are better!

I enjoyed this game and it took over four hours so I feel like I got my money's worth. I played on Expert mode, so the Hint button took a LOOONG time to reload. Luckily I didn't need it that often. Most of the puzzles are doable and the couple that were just to fiddly for me I could skip.
The music fits the scenes but there's not much in the way of sound effects, ambient sounds, etc. and there are no voiceovers--just text dialog. Still, it works.
You need to find several amulets to release some trapped souls and there are many hidden object scenes along the way. All are text lists of items to find. I didn't notice any misnamed objects or text errors throughout the entire game, so kudos to the translators.
The game ran fine with no lock-ups or freezing. It's nothing real fancy, but a good solid game.

I never could have gotten through it without the help of two different walkthroughs. First, you have fragmented objects to find, but you can't find them all until you complete some other tasks in other places. Many times I thought I was in a catch-22 situation needing one thing from something that needed something I couldn't get until I got the needed thing. Then there are items you use and items you put back into the scenes. The locations were not always obvious.
I have no objection to fragmented object games, but this one often feels unfair. The fragments aren't all there to find.
What puzzles there are were decent and you could skip if you got stuck. The hints for finding fragments recharged quickly but there are no hints for putting things back into the scenes or for what actions you need to do, or where other locations can be accessed.
I bought this game (and unfortunately three more in the series) because I thought with the cute, cartoony graphics, they might be fun, lighthearted games that I would enjoy. Now I wish I could return the other three. I have no desire whatsoever to play them.
I would not recommend this game, but if you're tempted like I was, I advise you to play the demo first. I wish I had done that.
