This title has it all. Excellent graphics, unusual story, effective voice acting, interactive map, superb hint system and an innovative alternative to the hidden object scenes.
I have to agree with the first 4 reviewers. I bought the CE and I'm glad I did for the extras and the strategy guide. The artwork really appeals to me. HO scenes are nice and clear and not just junk piles. The map is interactive (one of my favorite features in any game). Lots of VERY imaginative locations ... my favorite was the desert.
I won't bore you with details. I haven't seen a game that was so out there in a long time. It is a genre-buster. The only thing I missed is an interactive map. If there's a sequel, I'm in.
Sort of weird being alive at the bottom of the sea but other than that ti's pretty satisfying.
Nice graphics. Sparkles. Fast hints. HO scenes are pretty straightforward and the number of objects is just right. Puzzles were OK, sometimes tedious but there's a skip button.
There's a map that shows you where you are and where you want to be. This feature was nice but inconsistent. Some times the map directs you to a place where there's something for you to do but you have to collect an item from another (that isn't shown) to accomplish the task.
A new breed of virus has spread throughout the City of Oxford. You must search the city for a missing girl who holds the key to stopping the global epidemic!
Cut scenes would be good if they synced up. I can hear all the dialog in real time . But it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r for the closed- caption text to load and display.
My hardware specs are pretty high so I don't understand the slow response time of the game.
I love that you can control how long hits take and how long it takes to skip a puzzle.
The map is nice to have but it isn't interactive.
it's visually satisfying and there's a new twist on HO scenes.
Played in Casual Mode and found the game to be fun with lots of hints and a quick "Hints" recharge. Artwork was nice. Voice-overs were well done. Lots of diversity in locations/scenes. Not too many HO scenes and they were pretty clear and not junkpiles. Puzzles and minigames were relatively straightforward (several new and original) and you earn up to 3 bonus coins depending on how quickly you complete them. After my first purchase, I didn't go back for more.
First let me say that I really like(d) this series.
One of my favorite things is the right-click magnifying glass in the HO scenes ... even though I still had to refer to Hints in several of them.
I like the "cartoonish" art work.
Unfortunately, the cut scenes and shifts between chapters were as slow as molasses in winter ... and this is in a pretty high-spec machine.
What tore it for me is that (what I believe is one of the final scenes) all of a sudden, the screen resolution changed to where I could no longer see everything on-screen. Never did get ot finish the game.
The following is based on the demo that I just completed in casual mode.
I usually don't even finish the demo, let alone buy, a game that keeps me backtracking like this one does.
In this one, the pluses outweighed that one major drawback. The artwork is bright and quite realistic. The HOS (so far) are not just junk piles and. despite being very well lit, can be quite challenging because of how well integrated some objects are into their surroundings. You initiate a HOS by finding and clicking on a scroll in the area you enter. The scroll opens on the right side of the screen instead of at the bottom.
There's a map, but you can't tele-port. There's a journal where you keep notes and a separate tab that contains a list of your objectives. The objectives section has hints available should you choose to use them. The hint button is available in the game and in the HOS and puzzles can be skipped. Minigames so far have been a nice mix of old and new.
This is one of the prettiest games I've played in a long time. It The graphics alone make this a buy for me. It compares quite favorably with Flux Family Secrets in that regard. The brightness and lack of clutter are a welcome change from many (if not most) games in this genre. OK, it's not hugely challenging but sometimes that's just what works for me.
I liked the look and feel of the game and the storyline kept things interesting throughout and that's a good thing because it's a long game
The HO scenes were mostly well lit and layed out. There were some new style minigames.
My favorite aspect of the game were the map features. Not only could you move from place to place by clicking on it, you could also see where you were, other places you could go, and where you hadn't been yet. And, to top it off, when you hover over a location, you get a list of what needs to be done there. I've never seen a better map implementation.
The hint system works in the the game as well as the HOS in Casual Mode and the hints recharge quickly. The Skip function is equally fast.
