I love to play the Fishdom games when I'm too tired to really focus on challenges but want to play games. The colors are bright and vivid, I enjoy buying additions to my aquariums and seeing the screens develop. While the challenge is minimal, for me, this is the whole draw to the Fishdom series - it's just great fun! I love that this one is the fall seasons, and I hope they come out with a series for each quarter of the year!
This game is very similar to one of the Jewel Quest games - same storyline, objective, collecting of pieces and power ups, with wonderfully similar eclectic music. If you HAVE played the Jewel Quest version, this presents an equal challenge and is just as much fun. The timer is generous but be certain to collect all of your available power ups BEFORE you drop your last piece off the board! You’re going to need them in the higher levels. Yes, the challenge does increase in the upper levels, but why else do we play these!!!!! Have fun and enjoy!
This match 3 doesn't have much going for it: the icons are very tiny, very hard on your eyes, and there are too many varieties of icons on the board at the same time, making matches few and far between, but if you hesitate long enough, the board will show you where the match is located. Matches can be made on the horizontal or angle. The placement of new icons is fast but very erratic and unpredictable. After the first few boards, small bombs and dynamite begin to mix in, but are only effective if you get them EXACTLY where you need them - and no BIG explosion sounds. You just go from one board to the next, nothing in between, no scores shown, no other mini games thrown in - just very tedious match 3 on the angle. I would not recommend this game - there are so many others worthy of your time.
This match 3 requires you to make a match with the icon displayed on your cursor, whether or not those tiles are already uncovered, which drove me NUTS in the first 4 minutes! But I went back to the game, and, after having figured out this fact, found the game delightful! It offers a timed and untimed mode, and the board configurations become more difficult with each level. I like that you can still make moves when the tiles are still settling from your prior move. Multiple matches offer explosions! Even though the timer is generous, I've had to re-play several levels. The colors are wonderfully vivid and bright, and the icons change as the levels progress. Don't let the cute characters and whimsical music fool you, this very different match 3 presents its challenges!
Age 2 is everything that the first version was missing. While it doesn't offer the 3 modes of play: Easy, Medium and Hard, it does have the tips and tutorials missing in the first game, which make playing so much more enjoyable. Hint: Read the HELP section at the beginning, before starting play. It does have both the puzzle and arcade versions.
In the Arcade mode you have your typical locks and double locks, along with changing board configuration, making play more challenging. In the Puzzle mode you strive to acquire a designated number of certain tiles. In both modes you gain points to buy power-ups, which are plentiful and well explained. In the Bonus play, you have to get your puzzle pieces to the bottom of the board to win the round and earn more points. The storyline is a bit weak, but it's inconsequential to the game play! This one is fun! fun! fun!
Upon opening the game I was impressed by the three levels of play offered: Easy, Medium or Hard. Then I was captivated as the first game board appeared among a beautiful Japanese backdrop with eclectic music. The icons were appropriate, vivid and colorful, but the biggest drawback to this game is that there are no tips or tutorials after the opening move! If you are an avid match 3 player, you may figure it out as you go along, but it is frustrating. If your timer runs out, your cursor changes to a broom, which you use to ‘sweep away’ an icon, to help in aligning a match; however, your swap 3 cursor no longer works. You are best to abort the level and start it over. During play, you collect ‘brooms’ by matching bonus icons. You CAN use the broom during timed play, which is helpful when you have an odd tile to capture. There are the usual locks, double-locks, tiles and double-tiles to conquer, and when you have a board without any of these, your goal is to match as many bonus icons and make as many long matches as possible to gain additional brooms. There is no storyline other than the background, music and icons are all Japanese. With some tutorials added, this game would be GREAT! But unless you are an expert M3 player, I would not recommend it.
I'm hoping that the next game will address these issues.
The bright, vivid and colorful graphics are a highlight to this game! It follows its storyline through out, but what sets this M3 apart from all others is that by right-clicking your mouse, you change the color of your cursor, and thus, the color-coordinated icon that you are going after. You don't actually 'swap' the tiles, you click on the one you want to change to match those surrounding it, by the color of your cursor. You have set goals for each level, and there are numerous power-ups to earn and use; however, the timer is generous and I didn't need the power-ups, thus, lowering the challenge level of this fun game. It can also be played in the Relaxed #untimed# mode. It has HO and mini games, as well. Very cute and fun concept, but needs to be much longer.
What sets this M3 apart from almost all others is that 1) you make chains based on horizontal, vertical and DIAGONAL tiles, and, 2) the tiles do not fall to the bottom of the board, but instead are replaced by other icons, so it's not at all predictable. I only know of a couple other games that allow chains on the diagonal. There is a timer that's fairly generous, and you can replay a level if you run out of time. There's a pirate who 'coaches' you along when you make a long chain, and during play you reach a point where you earn a Flash Play. These are not easy to complete in the given time! Hint: read all the detailed instructions at the beginning - more than once if you need to, to really understand them all. While this game isn't very challenging, it is fun and a bit different!
What I liked most about this M3 is that it gives you the option to choose the modes of Swap, Chain, or Group, DURING GAME PLAY!!!! You can actually change the mode, as many times as you like, while playing the game. I enjoy Groups, but to get to all the tiles, I needed to switch to Swap. The power-ups are plentiful and powerful, and there are plenty of 'obstacles' put in your way as well. There are mini games in between that give this cute and colorful game a lot of variety. I could play this for hours on end!
This game is predominantly M3 with stones and tiles to change. It includes several types of power-ups that you definitely need to complete the board. But it also includes a mahjong matching game and creating a picture at the end of each level. I like the mix and variety. I'm not big on 3D - makes me queasy! - so working the bright and colorful board was good fun. The power-ups are so strong they take away the challenge, but I love the variety and board configurations!
