A good, but not great offering from an otherwise excellent game maker.

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Eipix games, you already know that from other of my reviews you may have read. This game, I’m sorry to say, does not meet the very high standard Eipix set with so many of its other products.
While it does offer the rather unique ability to choose the narrator of the tale, and lets you play as different characters when appropriate to the game play, there is really not much here that gave me the same level of fun and enjoyment as I have come to expect from this developer.
The lip sync, very surprisingly for an Eipix game, was either non-existent or quite far off the mark. Likewise, the graphics were a long distance from the crisp, sharp, realistic rendering usual to its other offerings.
Hidden object sequences and mini-games, on the other hand, were as well done as usual.
The story line —wife/husband in trouble and only you can save her/him from an unthinkable fate— has been done so very many times before. In truth, though, there are just so many different plots that lend themselves to these types of games.
There are the usual, and not too difficult to find, bonus and morphing objects in each scene. The interactive map while, again, not quite up to Eipix visual standard, is very helpful in finding, and taking you to the next place to go.
Even though I found this game a little disappointing, I’ll probably buy the SE version when it’s released.
I recommend this game!

Once again we are offered a so-called Edgar Allan Poe tale that, apart from its title, has no connection to the work of this master of the written word. If you have read any of my previous reviews, and played some of the other offering in this series —Dark Tales - Edgar Allan Poe's Lenore and Dark Tales - Edgar Allan Poe’s Morella, for example— you are probably as disappointed as I am.
The graphics in this game, as in the others of this series, are more or less appropriate for the time period and atmosphere of the game. Having said that, I must also say that, given the state-of-the-art of current graphic rendition software, they were more than a little primitive.
The background music continued what is the norm for these games —slow and gloomy.
I’m not going to comment on the game play except to say that it offered nothing in the way of plot or characters that we have not seen time and time again.
The same can be said of the HO sequences and mini-games; nothing new, innovative, or even very interesting or challenging.
Edgar Allan Poe was the father of the ‘horror’ genre, but the only horror here is the audacity of the game developer to associate his name with this yet again lame offering.
If you must, play the demo . . . I do not recommend this game.

I just played the demo for Modern Tales: Age of Invention Collector's Edition and, once again, I am amazed at the high rating some have given a game that is dull, inane, poorly produced!
I’m not going to talk about the minutiae of this game since others have already done that.
It’s been a while since I last posted a game review. The offerings of the last several months have been so uniformly bad that I just couldn’t be bothered. This game is just another of the same, but the absurdly high ratings it garnered sent me back to the keyboard.
If you have played even one hidden object game you certainly don’t need the ridiculous, childish narrative given by the main character. I certainly don’t need to be told that a hot-air balloon is flying away —I can see that!
The era of this game is 1900, so how come I have to find an ‘electronic chip’ to open a door? No such item could have existed at that time —the anomalies just get piled one on top of another, too many to list here.
The graphics are okay, if sort of cartoon-like; lip sync is likewise just okay. The HO sequences, such as there were in the very short demo game, offered nothing new, challenging, or even interesting.
And the story line, another rehash of what we have seen far too many times already!
Big Fish has offered some great games in the past —both of the Adam Wolfe episodes for example and, certainly, Maze: Subject 360— but this game is just another example of the trash dished up during the past several months.
I usually say that you should try the demo and decide for yourself, but not this time! Don’t even waste your download capacity, or your time with this one!
I don't recommend this game.

The play-by-play has been well described by another reviewer, so I shall not duplicate that good effort.
I have several of the Dark Tales games and, while none of them are exactly ‘barn burners,’ none was as dull and disappointing as this latest offering.
The plot, as also noted by another reviewer, is a very thin repetition of what we have seen all too often in these games. Too, as I noted in my review of Dark Tales - Edgar Allan Poe's Lenore, apart from the name in the game’s title, there’s not really any connection to Poe’s work.
When I play a game, as when I read a book or watch a play, character development is a large part of my enjoying that particular media. In this game, as in others, such development is mostly absent. It is impossible to empathize with the flat, cartoonish characters who inhabit this game. I really don’t care what happens to them. Nor am I moved to any real effort to ‘rescue’ them from the predicaments which, more often than not, they become embroiled through their own ineptness.
From start to finish of the demo of this game, I was hard-pressed to continue. The necessary actions —find this, mix that, do this— were all too familiar, and worn out contrivances, to generate in me any sense of fun or accomplishment. The same can be said for the HO sequences.
If you’ve read any of my previous reviews you already know that I am not a fan of CE games, so I’m not going to comment on the so-called extras.
If you are an experienced HO-type gamer don’t even bother with the demo. If you’re new to these games, why not, go ahead, download and play the demo, then decide for yourself.
I don't recommend this game.

I have several of the Dead Reckoning series of games and, while Lethal Knowledge is far from being one of the best, this game is not quite as bad as some other reviewers have written.
The story line has been described by others, so I will not duplicate their good efforts.
As usual for an Eipix product, the graphics, music, sounds, and voice-over narratives are all well done.
Yes, the game play is a little slow —well, for my liking, anyway— but the action is logical and it is not too difficult to figure out your next move. Should you want to jump from here to there, the map will be a good tool for you.
The HO sequences and mini-games, with one or two minor exceptions, were no different than any seen in other Eipix products. This, to me, was quite disappointing, but if indeed this is the last game in the series then, obviously, Eipix didn’t see any reason to put any more effort into this game than was absolutely necessary.
I probably won’t buy this game, and my recommendation is a qualified one, but you should try the demo and decide for yourself.
I recommend this game!

Others have described the storyline and play-by-play, so I won’t duplicate their good work.
This game is one of the easiest for which to write a review that I have played in a long time. It is, quite simply, a well-done product.
The graphics are excellently rendered, as are the background music and sounds, the effects sounds and voice-over narratives.
The HO sequences and mini-games are sufficiently challenging without requiring too frequent use of the hint or skip buttons.
The map is a very useful and user-friendly tool, as is always the case with games from this developer.
I’m not a real big fan of gimmicky tools —which you already know if you’ve read any of my other reviews— but the ghost-hunting gizmo in this game is not very obtrusive or annoying, so I’ll not complain too much about having to use it to find, well, ghosts of course!
While I do recommend this game, I also offer my usual caveat; play the demo and decide for yourself.
I recommend this game!

So, I chased around the demo looking for the fright —nope, didn’t find it! What I did find was another trite, banal, boring episode of find the lighter, light the fire; find a code, open a combination lock; and on, and on and, boringly, more of the same.
If a developer is going to put ‘fright’ in the game title, the least one can expect is, well, a little fright. Sorry, none here.
The graphics are okay; HO sequences nothing very innovative or even appealing; sounds, again, just okay.
All in all a very disappointing offering.
If you have limited download capacity, or discretionary money to spend, don’t bother wasting either on this game.
I don't recommend this game.

If you’ve played any of the other Puppet Show games this one is going to look very familiar.
The style and rendering of the graphics, the background music, the HO sequences, the mini-games, and even the plot, all very much what we have seen time and time again.
What, the plot isn’t new? Nope, same old stuff. The Mayor’s not the good citizen one might suppose and, oh dear, his wife has been taken by an evil being. My, my, what a surprise!
I have several games of this series and, for the most part, have enjoyed playing them. This particular offering, however, should never have been created. It’s beyond time for these puppets to be cut loose.
Slow of pace, dull of plot, boring HOs and mini-games —let this one sit on the Big Fish server and wither away.
Don’t even bother to download the demo, its just not worth doing.
I don't recommend this game.

This is an odd little game, with both enjoyable and annoying features.
I’ll leave the play-by-play description to those other reviewers who do that so well.
While the graphics are somewhat ‘old school,’ they are very well rendered and appropriate to the game theme.
The background music is very slow of tempo and, combined with the game design, makes for a very slow-playing game.
The voice-over narrative and effects sounds, with neither being excellent, are in keeping with the overall theme and individual game scenes.
This game has an unusual feature that I found rather annoying. There are occasions when you are presented with critical choices —shooting or scaring a creature, for example— and if you make the wrong choice then the game reverts to the scene prior to this choice becoming necessary. In my opinion, this is just a time wasting device, and certainly not game enhancing.
There was nothing new or innovative in any of the HO sequences. You are merely presented with a list of items which, as usual, you must locate and select by a click of your mouse button.
Oh, and of course you must find the ubiquitous oil can and hairpin with which to open either a rusty object or a lock for which there is no key. Both of these game devices have long worn out their utility.
With a little more effort this developer could have produced an interesting, enjoyable game.
There may be some who, perhaps, being new to these types of games, may find this game appealing and, to them only, I suggest the download and play of the demo.
I don't recommend this game.

From the opening sequence to the end of the demo two words kept popping into my mind, ‘old school!’
The graphics, music, poor lip-sync, HO sequences, and mini-games —all of them, very old school. It seemed as though time had gone backward and I was playing a game from ten years ago. You know, before most of us got bored with this style.
Even the plot is old school. A dead, skeletal, bride seeking revenge for . . . well, I’m not quite sure what. Maybe the answer to that lies in the rest of the game but, to tell the truth, I just don’t care!
Oh, I’m sure that some other reviewers will hang a bunch of stars on this game, but how they could do so is beyond my comprehension.
This game, if the demo is a true precursor, is a yawn-inducing bore.
I’m not even going to give you my usual caveat —play the demo and decide for yourself— because my advice is save your time and money for a game worthy of both, which this on certainly is not.
I don't recommend this game.
