Katarina has asked you to come investigate what is giving her severe and constant nightmares. You arrive and find a vengeful evil witch’s spirit determined to keep you away from her plans to turn Katarina into a witch – the first one born in 500 years. That Witch’s Spirit has fire in her fingers as well as in her eyes and she's had that 500 years to brood over her perceived wrongs - Look out, detective!
Good stuff: There are three different groups of things to collect. The HOPs were varied and multi-layered. The VOs were mostly well executed. The artwork was fairly well done. The mini-games were the expected variety. You have a special pair of glasses to help you see and interact with the past.
Bad stuff: Every collectible item stuck out like a sore thumb. The Witch's VOs were overwrought - but she had those 500 years to get there! That lovely artwork fuzzed out during every transition and all of the Special Glasses’ scenes.
The mini-games were child-like. And the special glasses looked into a very blue and very fuzzy past.
True to recent game norms, the logic quotient of this series addition was astoundingly low - the life-size stone head floating in a normal glass wine bottle; the "monks" who left things hidden for their ancestors - no worries about celibacy apparently; and the visions of the 500 year ago past that provided embarrassingly modern "artifacts" like a fire hydrant are just a few examples.
Please try the Demo and make your own decision.
I don't recommend this game.

Alex is from a broken home. Years ago her little sister died and her father left soon afterward. Her mother coped by working very hard. Alex was left feeling lonely and insecure. All that changed when she met Ryan. Their wedding day is rapidly approaching. Grandfather's mirror, an ugly family heirloom that should have been relegated to an attic, sits next to the wedding dress Alex has been working on in the living room. Alex sees that mirror reflecting strange things that shouldn't be there. She finds an unusual key and inserts it into the suddenly revealed keyhole on the side of the mirror. No good will come of this.
Good stuff: A variety of HOPs, easy mini-games, two little Harlequin dolls as Alex's helpers, a villainess that is the mirrored image of our heroine, collectible wine glasses, and all the CE bling and other game elements you would expect.
Bad stuff: I turned down the overly loud sounds. I collected lots of stuff, usually in groups of four or more. The story, while we are provided with a good amount of information, is nothing new.
I also would be more than willing to play as a male, if only because I suspect the Devs would let the lead character be more intelligent and move the story along more quickly.
Bottom line: This is a nice little game I'll keep on my list for the next mega sale when I want just one more item.
Try the Demo and see what you think.

Budding writer, Ian, was selected as the new protégé to award winning author, Benedict Bell. You play as Ian's girlfriend, Helen, who has just received an alarming call from Ian. Ian's phone abruptly went out and Helen rushes to Mr. Bell's house. Ian is in trouble, Mr. Bell is the cause, and Helen must save Ian's soul!
Good stuff: A variety of HOPs, good mini-games, lovely artwork, collectibles, and CE bling.
Bad stuff: Soul stealing is old, but Nevertales is usually entertaining and this game seems on the right track.
I'm not entirely sold on the story, so you'll have to try the Demo for yourself and make your own determination. I did like the game play but felt there was a lot of back and forth - if I go through a portal, I don't expect to jog back and forth through it again. And again.
If that sounds like I'm on the fence, I am. I can't decide whether to buy the CE or wait for the SE.
I recommend this game!

King Gwyn is marrying Gerta, heroine from an earlier Dark Parables adventure. You, as the detective, are invited to the wedding, but more importantly, you are to investigate a series of forest fires around the kingdom for King Gwyn. You arrive in time to see a fire in progress and heroically ride directly into the blaze. You are in time to see the perpetrator disappear into an opening in a huge tree. Without hesitation, you jump into the entrance after the criminal. Your adventure has started.
Good stuff: The FROGs are back, HOPs that are centered around finding small pieces of an item, and once the three sections of each item are put together, you will have something to help you proceed. There are collectibles and the gorgeous artwork needed for a fairy tale. For some reason, while the VOs seemed really well done, the rest of the sounds got on my nerves. The mini-games and puzzles and CE bling are up to the standards of early DP games.
Bad stuff: Even after playing both the Beta trial and the Demo, I am not sure what the story is about, other than another threat from an evil entity connected to the tinderbox and who has tricked one of our characters upset over the upcoming nuptials of Gwyn and Gerta. In fact, I don't see a twisted fairy tale here so much as a totally new story that does not engage me enough to make me want to find the ending.
Please try the Demo and judge for yourself.

A little girl in a red hooded cape runs through the nighttime forest. A wolf howls. Seconds later she is brought up short in front of a fierce wolf wearing a locket/amulet around its neck on the rocks just above her head. There is the swish of an axe and the wolf lies dead as the child runs on. A murder has been committed and you will be investigating at the monarch's request. Good luck!
Good stuff: There are a variety of HOPs, potions to make, evidence to collect, mini-games to finish, collectibles, and some CE bling.
Bad stuff: The HOPs have a sluggish pointer that leaves you clicking on a needed object several times before it is accepted. The mini-games are pedestrian and lack adequate instructions. A special box for mixing potions and testing evidence is a clear time waster. Pretty much the first potion will cure you of any desire to repeat the experience. The instructions were so small on my giant screen, I couldn't imagine trying to follow them on a smaller monitor or laptop.
The first story in what is apparently meant to be a series, "Queen's Quest: Tower of Darkness," was a sad plot with odd game play and seemingly no one to vet the progress through the game. The second game in the series follows closely on that same lack of thought with stilted English, slow game play made slower by pausing to make potions, and an evident lack of logic in proceeding through the adventure.
There seemed to be a lot of promise in the story - that is until an alchemist started playing with potions that worked magic. An alchemist was a person who wanted to achieve the transmutation of the base metals into gold, the discovery of a universal cure for disease, and the discovery of a means of indefinitely prolonging life. They did not turn themselves into various creatures and investigate crimes.
There also seemed to be no thought put into the next step of this adventure till the Devs got stuck and then they threw in the most unlikely thing they could invent. Example: you walk into a room of the palace and change into a snail - after making the potion to do that - and ooze your way into the cellar/sewer/dungeon/storage area through a barred hole in the side of a platform to find a snail that oozed off earlier with the lever you need!
I wish that there had been more thought invested into this poor little fairytale. I think the story had potential which was left behind.
Please try the demo for yourself.
As usual, I can't recommend what I won't buy.

Haunted Hotel is back, this time with an unusually decrepit nasty, dirty, and well haunted building. Apparently Silent Waters Hotel is so far in the woods and so long abandoned, it was discovered by accident by three young campers looking for shelter from a sudden storm. They entered the ruins and bad things began to happen. We, as the player, were seemingly dragged here from the scene of our auto accident after falling asleep at the wheel. We come across a couple of the campers and try to help them. This is one time when the Good Samaritan will truly rue the day!
Good stuff: Most of the HOPs and mini-games are familiar. The artwork is clear, but dreary and dilapidated beyond telling. The music is a single finger playing slowly on a piano and geared to drive the hardiest soul mad. The story, minimal as it is, will remind you of others, just as the game play, trotting around the abandoned building, will remind you of other games. There are 22 morphing items to find as well as a variety of other collectibles and CE bling.
Bad stuff: There is lots of back and forth which gets old even with the map. There are a lot of bits and pieces crumbling off the building, ghostly shapes moving, and many notes to read. Those bits would be great if they really moved things along, but it felt more like slowing the game down each time you got to a challenge or a bit of the minimal, but familiar story of the hotel. I'll leave you to discover that part for yourself. (Hint: think Bible!)
I was not drawn into the story and every room was grimy enough that I felt hand washing was obligatory after finishing the Demo. I wish the game seemed less like a poor relative of the Haunted Hotel series' early games.
Please try this one for yourself.
I don't recommend this game.

Uncle dies halfway through writing a letter to you. You receive the completed letter after his death and find yourself in possession of his estate. You need to figure out what killed him, so investigation is in order. Apparently dear old Uncle had hold of an artifact that got him killed by a ghost.
The artifact is supposed to go back to Ancient Roman times and was an attempt to contain a great evil. Anyone who touches the artifact will be targeted by a ghost. Uncle loved you enough to place you as the next victim.
Good stuff: The bit of story you do get is clear. There are all the usual game elements, including a chain type Match 3 alternative to the varied multi-layered HOPs. Artwork is good, characterizations are fair, and the sound is appropriately rainy and thunderous.
Bad stuff: You will be reminded of previous Myth series games with every strange step you take. As usual, no one thought through the story. Example: You wake in the middle of the night to find the house well engulfed in flames after being hit by lightning during a thunderous storm which did not wake you. You jump out of bed, and find yourself trapped by flames which have already collapsed part of the ceiling beams and engulfed the upper floor. Naturally you will stop to solve several puzzles and then run out into the still pouring rain to find one of uncle's friends fortuitously at the gate. True to the lack of thought currently in vogue among many Devs, you are still in your nightclothes and presumably barefoot.
Hey gang, let's head out to the forest and explore some caves - especially the water-drenched one that uncle used to hide some of his treasures.
Don't all antiquity collectors keep things in the worst possible conditions?
Maybe Uncle left a couple of dresses with the antiques.
There is also the time-wasting addition of a special charm/artifact, Valor's Light, which has a puzzle to use it to find hidden caches and another puzzle to use it for defense, not to mention the multiple steps/puzzles to get it charged.
There's more, but I'll leave you to be aggravated on your own. Let's just say that once again, no one thought through the story from beginning to end.
This is an OK game if you are looking for a time-filler for the weekend. Please try the Demo for yourself.

I really did not want to be the one to write the obituary, but I have been forced into it!
Marjorie is in love with James. James has been kidnapped, as have many other local citizens before him. When the others were returned, they had amnesia. Unfortunately for Marjorie, her father, the Mayor, refuses to help her search for James, so Marjorie calls in a detective and we arrive in time to see her kidnapped. We temporarily rescue her, only to lose her later.
If you think things are in a mess so far, you have correctly grasped the story as it remains untold by the Devs in this new game in the Puppet Show series.
Good stuff: There are puppets. There is minimal CE bling. There is a mechanical cat helper, not cute for a change and he'll help as long as you keep repairing him.
Bad stuff: If you want Dark Tales artwork, a variety of junk HOPs, bland simple mini-games, and absolutely NO idea of what the plot is, then this is the game for you.
All of the above and the missing logic and story-line as well as the incredible sameness of what you do to move through this game, and most of it done with the out-of-kilter bent the last few Puppet Show games have had will encompass the sadness that is this game.
Play the Demo if you want to be depressed at the path another great series has gone down.
I'll grab a box of tissues and play the first Puppet Show games while mourning their tragic evolution.
I don't recommend this game.

Please read the BFG site synopsis of this game - it is as adequate as you could want.
Download and play the demo next - you will find everything exactly as you would expect, with the game elements you expect and the ordinary CE bling.
As an avid book collector of a specific genre, I so wanted to like this game centered on a secret library and legendary magical books. When I filled out the survey after the Beta trial, I tried to make very pointed suggestions. Unfortunately for gamers everywhere, I was apparently writing in Sanskrit, which none of the Devs reads.
This is an incredibly ordinary game with all the usual - and you don't know how it pains me to write that word - logic flaws in its story-line that have been plaguing new series games this year. The basic premise has potential; the execution falls down mightily.
Please play the demo before considering purchasing.
I don't recommend this game.

Again.
Your good friend, Maria, is setting sail to take a part in a movie offered her by a famous director, jumps on a ship that is in need of repair, gets kidnapped before it sets sail in the only visible life boat, - hey, nobody will notice it's missing till the ship sinks - and the inept kidnapper leaves you clear clues so you can follow just in time to witness something unpleasant.
Mediocre stuff: All the game elements are here with all too familiar HOPs with morphing objects, puzzles with almost adequate instructions, varying qualities of artwork and sounds, and a story lacking passion and interest.
Bad stuff: All of the above because there is no originality here.
Another bland, overly average addition to an established series with "been there, done that" game features and a story that has more holes than Swiss cheese and is so much like other games that you'll want to check the title to see what you are playing - repeatedly.
If you have played any of the dozens of series games dumped on the market by Eipix this year, you have probably seen facets of this one and will find it distressingly similar with what is becoming a common lack of logic and cohesion in the ultra-light story.
The Demo, completed in 45 minutes, left me feeling embarrassed that it took me even that long. I should have bailed earlier.
Please try the demo before buying. After playing through several hundreds of these games, I will not be buying this one.
I don't recommend this game.
