This is the only game I've wanted to buy based on 15 minutes of demo. The voiceovers don't grate. The art is fine. The minigames, which I normally loathe, hate, detest and despise, were logical and within my comfort level. The HOG's made me work a little. I've bought games whose logic escaped me, to the point where I used Hint to know when it was time to leave a scene. This is more accessible, while still offering challenges.
I recommend this game!

The voiceovers are not grating; this is a plus. The hidden objects are not hidden. I'm sorry, but this is pointless. Does EVERY old house have junk heaps in every room? I am pleased to search for objects. I will play minigames if they seem related, and if the instructions work. This is not fun.
I don't recommend this game.

Dark Lore Mysteries: The Hunt for Truth
Are a town’s superstitions justified? Follow the blood to find out!
Thank goodness! I was begining to think that all socalled HOG's were iactually puzzle adventuress with a single HOG. The puzzles were doable, but I am an impatient sort and tend to skip them. I enjoyed this game .

Nightmare Adventures: The Turning Thorn
What dark and powerful secrets are hidden within the A.R.C.A.N.E. agency's old research base? Kiera Vale returns to find out.
I love the controls, LOVE being able to specify the brightness level, LOVE killing the voiceovers. OTOH, the backing a forthing is offputting and there are too darned many puzzles. I'm not fond of puzzles. Figuring out where to go next is enough puzzle for me. When I have to click on things in picky-precise order, feh! Even so, I may buy it.

Twilight Phenomena: The Lodgers of House 13 Collector's Edition
An evil villain is luring people to his beautiful mansion and preparing them for a terrible ritual. Can you keep your head on the shoulders?
Boo. I loathe minigames. I tolerate them and play them for the sake of hidden objects games, which I enjoy. This is less a game than a semi-interactive story. Not for me.
I don't recommend this game.

Depths of Betrayal Collector's Edition
Stop a mechanical monster before it destroys an entire town in Depths of Betrayal! Uncover the truth and stop the terrifying machine!
Like Crystal Portal, this game uses crisp graphics and rings of hidden objects that popup when you mouse over a key item. There's a lot of backing and forthing. Dialog is minimal but helpful.the music can be set to almost inaudible These are all good things. Best of all, there is a logic that I can follow. Some of these adventure games are so convoluted that I can't move without a strategy guide. This one lets me play.

The opening sequence is breathtaking, but there is no opportunity to skip it, and it is lengthy. The one minipuzzle I encountered did not function the way the instructions aid it would, and the skip button took forever to fill. When I got inside the house, I was supposed to be dazzled by card tricks.
This game should have been billed as a mildly interactive show. After 6 minute's I'd had enough.
I don't recommend this game.

The game starts out well and had a number of quirks that keep things interesting. Right off the bat you can deal with the light/dark issue. I bogged down at the first rune puzzle but bought the game anyway. The rune puzzle, which involves memorizing where you put things, was the tip of the iceberg. There's a lot of backing and forthing. I hate the CE puzzles, matching definitions to objects. I Hate audios for the dialog.
