Don't really understand the great reviews on this game. I found it utterly boring. Maybe a good game for someone new to Match 3 to sharpen their teeth on but for a gamer who is a seasoned match 3 player I would think they would find it just as boring as I did.
I made it through the demo, but just barely. The better match 3 game from this developer is Treasure Island. A much more varied and challenging game and those dancing skeletons are a hoot! Both these games give your a Timeless or Classic choice for game play.
Maybe if you played this in the Classic timed mode you may find it more fun, but I would doubt it. Music is more acceptable than other games or at least during the demo I didn't feel the need to turn it off.
I'm glad this was a $2.99er. The demo seemed quite interesting so what the heck but I'm still playing this game and I really don't know if I'm going to have enough patience to make it to the end. The game seems long or maybe its just dragging along.
Voice overs are driving me nuts and the story just seems to be out in the wind somewhere....like, where is it going to? Characters are a bit confusing.
I skip almost all the puzzles because the directions are really vague or they don't seem to work right. A new twist to some of the HOS which was a bit annoying. Anyway, I was not impressed.
Only three settings so the skip is realllllly slooooowwww, but the hint refreshes quickly. Transporter map is good.
I have this whole series and this one was actually more challenging than others I have played. I actually caught myself using the hint quite a bit. I've been playing these adventure games a long time so this one caught me off guard a bit.
Longer game than usual and with a good ending. I just think its always funny the master detective does nothing and all the dirty work is done by the player. Don't want to mess up that top hat and overcoat! :)
Played some puzzles and skipped others; HOS were fun. Custom settings so you can refresh you hint and skip which is always a plus. Good transporter map.
I usually give demos a chance, but this one was so dull I just couldn't make it...thought a few times I would fall asleep. I usually like time management games, but this one was just a little too much of get this, go here, do that.
Not for me, not this time. There are other Viking games out there which are a lot more interesting.
Not really sure why this had all the warnings about having horrifying scenes, etc. I didn't find it all that "scary" or "horrifying".
The game to me did not flow well and the transporter map was not only confusing but totally useless. If you buy the game just use the hint to move around. It does have a custom mode that allows you to freshen the hint and skip quickly. HOS are pretty normal and the puzzles doable for the most part. Can't say this game blew me away.
Using the "through the vortex" theme, you basically help three people with their bad dreams and at the end toss out the bad guy and everyone is happy. Been used many times before.
Happy others enjoyed it so much, I found it a bit of a drag so the fact it appeared short was a good thing for me.
I honestly think most of these great reviews are posted after the demo only. The demo basically gives you the first 10 or so levels and then the game turns into a typical Treasurers of Montezuma nightmare.
God only knows why I have all 5 of these games. I don't mind a challenge but this series is beyond a challenge this one included. The only good thing about this particular one is that it doesn't drop kick you after the timer runs out....the timer gets to run out 3 times and you either get a green face, yellow one or the last one...grey.
The frequency of "score frenzy" drove me nuts. The distribution of totems and on board power ups is confusing...very little or hard to find explanation of each one an you basically take what is available...no pick and chose.
Its all about the jewels...scoring is a side if you are into creating big scores. Glad it was over, got really tired of never being able to "quite" beat the timer...it was if the game knew you were getting close and then made the board almost impossible. I you shuffle yourself (you only get 2) you don't lose your power ups...if the game shuffles, you lose them all.
Probably won't play this series again. Always considered myself good at match 3 games but this one works real hard at making you feel like a totally frustrated idiot.
A thrilling gem-matching adventure awaits those who dare to explore the jungle of the Aztecs, where untold treasure lies hidden deep within an ancient temple!
The Montezuma game series is one of the most difficult match 3 games I've ever played. Despite the "casual" setting you are still up against a formidable timer. Sure there are a lot of bonus' to help you through the game, but still its not that easy.
With #5, I have tried to get beyond level 52 about a dozen or more times and I really don't think it can be done. No matter how many power ups and bonus' I try, I still can't do it in the time limit. I decided since the game won't let me proceed to just bag the game...its just not "fun" anymore. I have even gone back and replayed the levels I didn't get a key on before and won those.
I strongly suggest if you don't like playing with a timer to not even try this series. I felt a "casual" level should be just that...no timer. How sad, because this really is a fun game. For those who like the challenge of a timer, you'll love it.
I found this game boring and difficult. I play a lot of match 3's and usually, even when difficult they flow along better than this one. For almost an hour (I didn't finish the demo), I only got one power-up and that could only be had by matching 1 "species" of tile...the game was pretty easy at first but rapidly got to the point of being just plain monotonous because the tile characters simply did not fall.
It was like, if you didn't play the exact plan, then you could stay on the same level forever. I must have restarted one level 4 times just so I could move on. Not a fun game, I like my match 3's to be a little less fixed.
Game is not timed in a sense, but you do get stars for completing it within a specified time.
I usually don't have the time to sit down and play a game all the way in one sitting, but I was able to do so with this one so I assume it must be a relatively short game, but that didn't detract from the fun of playing it.
It took me awhile to figure out what was going on with the potion making but then it clicked in. There appeared to be 1 puzzle which was repeated over and over again as you completed the potion, which got old and I skipped all the others (not a puzzle player). HOS were fun, but cluttered at times and were interactive.
Voice overs were good, but I turned the music off. Story was a bit confusing since there appeared to be 3 different interactions going on. Never did figure out the golum thing.
Good grief, made it through about 2 boards before dropping this game in the trash. Slow, too much dialog and the game doesn't let you move until all the other pieces have stopped moving.
Boards load slowly and the sounds are awful. Certainly not for me. Seems like a very dated game.
