BASED ON COMPLETED GAME
I replayed this game a second time (over 6 days, custom mode- skipped some MG.)
I purchased the SE so I didn’t complete the bonus play. The main game took me exactly 5 hours to finish.
This is a Halloween themed game and not a scary one, and that's fine because I like both types. I did feel they went too heavy with the color candy apple green though.
REACTIVE ITEMS:
Domini always has reactive items that move and respond when you click on them. These special details are in both the SE and the CE versions. I personally like them more than the CE collectibles & morphs combined. There are some great ones in this game and I was like a kid in a candy shop looking for them. I’d be here all day if I listed them all, but here are some of my favorites to be on the lookout for.
Chapter 2- When you get inside Dana's house, be sure to click the rug in living room Dana is in.
Chapter 3- last scene “Basement” click everything in here, there are a few good ones.
Chapter 4 – scene 1 “Reconstruction Room”, click the wooden plank walk-way.
Chapter 4- scene 3 “Approach the Park” be sure to click the sky.
Chapter 4- scene “Bakery” click on the shelves of bread.
Chapter 4- scene “Horror Shop” click the kite on the L ceiling and also the guy in the middle.
Chapter 4- scene “Witches Hill” be sure to click on the benches (one of my favorites in the game) and in the same scene click the witch in the left corner.
RE: HOPs: It has some great storybook type HOPs that added depth to the story and characters. This game had a lot of different types of HOS, catering to all of us. Chapter 4 has a really fun interactive HOS where you find one item to unlock the next. This HOP was so thought out I wondered if it was meant to be in the demo initially. It’s in the area called “Radio Cabin” (where the PC is that says Domini Games.) It felt like the people that created this one were proud of it and they should be!
FUNNY HAPPENINGS: (*mild spoiler, I describe 1 scene*)
Chapter 2. Eventually we make our way into Dana’s house and that’s where we first meet Dana. She is preoccupied because a mummy traps her in her living room chair. I decide this is the perfect time to snoop around her house since she (literally) can't get up at the moment. Apparently, Dana has been preparing for her own birthday party. I find a few of her birthday gifts and open them (in front of her, yikes, that’s cold.) My first gift was a skateboard without wheels. Since I can’t ride it, I decide it will come in handy to fix Dana’s broken kitchen door.
Upon entering her kitchen, there is another birthday gift on the table (yep, Imma take this one too since she can't have it anyway since the mummy is still holding her captive.)
With anticipation, I open another wrapped gift to find ONLY A BLOW-DRYER BUTTON in the box. These are VERY crappy gift-givers in Dana's family. Good thing for me though! I needed that to fix the blowdryer I've been toting in my pocket 1/2 this level. So naturally I use it to melt her refrigerator.
Several tasks later I eventually decide to save Dana. Apparently she didn't mind that I was her only birthday guest and I opened all her gifts because she gives me the fingernail file she has been holding the entire mummy incident. Give me that Dana! I’ve needed that to open the locked living room cabinet (which someone hid- prol Dana, from me) It has her final present which of course I take. hahahaha
Domini- you guys are so funny! I needed that laugh. Thank you for that light moment of absurdity. It really did make my day! I laughed with every new task I did just leaving Dana in peril.
I swear this is one of my favorite reasons for playing these games.
Thank you to every one of you that worked on this fun game. Great job. It’s a classic!
I recommend this game!

BASED ON COMPLETED GAME (& CE bonus chapter)
I purchased the CE version
I did a review under the CE based on the demo that I wish I could change to 5*. This is a ***solid 5*** game when I played it to the end. It has everything I like in a game such as multiple storylines weaving in with the main theme and time of day change.
The SE portion took me 3:07 hr.
The Ce bonus play was 1:04 hr.
Total CE play was 4:11 hr. (6 days-custom mode-skipped some MG)
RE: CE screensaver: They let you use the screensaver as you play the game in this one! You still collect the puzzle pieces for it but you can use it right away. It's a cool one too. It has the baddies from the 4 storylines and it has a 3d feel. I thought the Hungry Ghost looked more like an alien. He is standing in front juggling fire.
The notes, photos, brochures & articles, in this game, are all done with care.
I liked the colors they used in this game too. The main game story thread was a few friends are myth debunkers. Each chapter had one of the friends investigating a story of their own. One of the levels has a Day of the Dead theme. And the bonus chapter has its own story too, based on the Mothman. I really liked the CE bonus play. At one point you get to dress up and go to a costume party in this game! It was so well drawn and the music was perfect.
Elephant, I'm so sorry I didn't rate both versions 5* because they both deserve it. The gameplay is excellent in both the SE & the CE but I highly recommend the CE version. I'm so glad I paid the extra money and thought it was worth it.
I recommend this game!

General:
You are the swimmer with a blue cap. Avoid the swimmers with the red caps (and the obstacles in later levels.) You swim grid square to grid square to avoid them.
It reminded me of a cross between Tic-Tac-Toe with one of those colored jump the peg table games, but avoiding pegs instead of removing them. We’ve seen this as a mini game in some of the HOPA’s.
I liked the music & the fact they let you play any level of the 7 chapters out of order. They sort of train you by making the levels harder as you progress. I can’t say I liked much else.
Now for some levity:
-I quickly grew tired of bumping into those red cappers as I desperately tried to reach the pool ladder so I could get out and sip that tropical drink on that pool side table.
- Give me a water balloon to toss at the dude with the whistle because he was using it *way* too much. Yikes, he was annoying.
- The entire time I played I wished I had a red cap. Clearly they are way better swimmers.
So my endgame here would be to add a great white shark to this pool and watch it play out like the game Tasty Blue.

I only played the 1hr demo.
+++++ I did like: +++++
-The sound effects.
- I really liked the Claymation look to the tiles.
- Large m3 boards
- Good graphics
- Music was nice and fit the game
- Fast matching is responsive and easy
=====I didn’t like: =====
-The words that interrupt play, “Excellent, Awesome” etc.
- I really disliked the build screen itself. Instead of decorating a house for Halloween you get to pick up the yard of a dark house in a dark scene. I got to use $ to “Remove old ladder” and “Remove junk”. I think I applied a lump of grass but never really was sure where my purchase applied.
- The build items are super expensive. We are M3 poor.
- You don’t upgrade the house every level.
- Even though music is good, it just repeats so I ended up shutting it off.
- A lot of the tiles were the same board after board and it kind of felt like 1 long level.
- I really disliked when you hovered your mouse on a tile, the tile itself would change color to the same opaque brown as the double layered tiles you were trying to clear. I would move my mouse off the board every move and it was a pain in the neck.
- Didn’t really like the bonus content because I’m not a fan of pipe or slider puzzles. Also, why would a gamer want to spend double on a CE if they can’t see the bonus content and especially the wallpapers?
~~~~~General: ~~~~~
*Casual & Expert
*Timeless, Timed & Limited Moves
*14 Achievements
* I thought HT #4 was improved from games 1-3
* You can slide through all of the build items in the demo to see what all the house's upgrades are.
* It had a small minigames to play in between an M3 level.
* Has a build screen. Earn M3 gold to “repair a house”
* CE bonus stuff is 1. Slider puzzles 2. Jigsaw puzzles 3. Pipe joining puzzles 4. Extra levels 5. wallpapers you can’t see until you clear level 30.
The more I played this game; I realized I just wasn’t having fun. It wasn't my thing but it might be yours so I suggest a full demo to get a better feel of it.
I think it would have benefitted from a build screen that had happy Halloween decorations and it needed more glitter & bang.
Based on completed demo only
I'm pretty sure this is our 6th Halloween Stories.
Liked:
+ I really liked the storyline based on a medium. I love when these games put tarot cards into the MG or storyline too. Or better yet, Angel Cards, because I read em' in real life.
Anyway, you play as a character named Agatha and she has a detective friend named Ethan. So in the demo we race off to meander around a haunted castle that is 17 hours away from our medium's main pad.
+ I loved when the character I play (Agatha) looks in the mirror and we can see who we are playing as. It immediately made me feel more connected to this game.
+ Elephant is really top notch at creating a scary atmosphere but this game is pretty tame in that department. Hopefully it gets scarier after the demo. It would be so cool to see a dev test the boundries of scary this time of year, like we see in True Fear: Forsaken souls or Dreadful Tales #2: The Fire Within.
+ I really loved they added a pop of orange/red color to the grayish scenery. This dev is just incredible at creating atmosphere.
+ I liked the “familiar buddy” in the mirror. He's a creepy little guy though.
Super minor stuff I didn’t like as much (and just things I usually prefer, no fault of this game):
- I only wish they would put a small thumbnail icon of who was talking at the moment & who we are playing as, like Eipix and 5BN did so well. Because the gamer feels more connected to the gameplay if you have a little visual of who your character currently is.
- If you look back at Grim Tales Vengeance, Elephant used to let us replay cutscenes *during* gameplay. They are truly expert at these and I really wish we could have them in the CE to re-watch. I can't stress enough how much a completed story matters to me in these games. And if I wait to buy a game on sale reading the storyline and watching cutscenes is a refresher to pick up where I left off after the demo. Unfortunately, this dev hasn’t even let us replay the cutscenes for a long time, not even in the CE extras menu.
- I wish the bonus content, or even the synopsis page would show if the CE has screensavers.
Just general:
This dev doesn't usually have a "decorate this room" option in their CEs and for the first time this one does. I'm not thrilled with that as bonus content because most of us gamers here are over 35yo and deco a bedroom etc., is geared more to kids I think. But this one was really well done I thought so no big deal. I'd rather CE content that shows a vid of the people that made the game, like they did in Mystery Case Files Shadow Lake.
Also, I want to say thankyou to all the reviewers, but I especially want to thank Pennmom36 for hers this time because I always trust what she says and she always lists if a game has a screensaver or not. I only purchase CEs that have one and there is *nowhere* in this game's synopsis if it does or not. Also, when you collect the CE puzzle pieces and finish a puzzle it usually has a "SET" button if it's a screensaver. This time, I was short a piece to complete the first "puzzle" so I couldn’t see if the SET button appeared. I have purchased so many games as CEs instead of SEs based on these reviews. So I will be purchasing this CE the next great sale because of her review.
My favorite game in this series is Halloween Stories #3: Horror Movie.
And if you haven't demo'd these 2 spooky games by Elephant.... they are great to play this time of year.
1. Haunted Hotel: Personal Nightmare
2. Haunted Hotel: The X
3. Grim Tales: Bloody Mary (it's spooky and you play in gorgeous locations all at once)
Thank you Elephant Games! I was dying for a great new HOPA and between this and your new game Crossroads you made me such a happy lady! Well done.
I recommend this game!
Based on completed demo
(It took me 40min to do this demo but I skipped most the MG because I don't like those anyway.)
My end rating for this demo is 2.8* I might buy the SE some day with a big sale but I would never buy the CE.
I don’t actually mind this type of game but, from reading reviews over time, I might be the only one that does enjoy them when they are done just a little differently. In a HOP/MG only kind of game the graphics need to be spot on and ultra-clear. I thought this game was a big step back for this dev in general.
Didn't like:
- The white bullet shadow when you click the mouse is back. People with Epilepsy won't like it either.
- The wallpapers are all just character pictures.
- I usually love this dev graphics but these were a step back. This game would have really benefitted from the graphics that were used in the HOP/MG/Only series Faircroft’s Antiques.
- In general I have never liked the type of HOP where you put 2 little sketches together to find an object ___ +___=___. I'd just rather listed items with some items that require 2 steps.
- The initial intro (page you read, cutscene?) to this game went so fast I couldn't read it fast enough. No idea what it said and there was no way to replay it. So I was immediately annoyed by this game.
-There are no voiceovers. You are forced to read the (story?). It just felt cheap, especially for a CE.
- No story. This game is all over the place. The synopsis on the game’s main page made it seem wonderful. If it had actually been like that it would have had potential.
- The CE extras are awful.
Liked:
+ I loved the pop-up book HOP. I thought this HOP was brilliantly rendered as you flipped the pages the pop ups changed illustrations.
+ I liked most of the HOS in this game, how they required additional steps to find the objects.
If you liked this game, here are others like it.
1. Mystery Case Files: Rewind
2. League of Light: Growing Threat
3. Bonfire Stories Manifest Horror (I actually loved this one)
***Note: I posted a review yesterday (10-1) and it vanished before it was posted. I always draft reviews in Word first, and screenshot them too, in case they disappear in transit. So here it is again... And trying to see if it was posted just says "redirecting". I clicked the "Submit Your Review Tab" to repost it since it was prepped to fill out again.
***Newer note: this 10-1 review was posted and resubmitted again on 10-2. It was up for one day and vanished again.
The weird thing is I’m one of the ones that gave it a higher rating than most.
Based on completed game + CE bonus play
SE took me 3:55 min.
CE Bonus play took me 1:16 min
Total Gameplay for CE: 4hrs. & 11min. (over 6 days)
I liked the storyline to this game.
I loved the basset hound Uni.
I loved the GPS/cellphone mini-game.
I liked the mystery bracelet gadget: When it's activated gorgeous aqua graphics come up with a ghostly female's head. Wearing it allows you to interact with spirit energies and you can see mystical creatures.
I noticed the graphics are better in some scenes than others. In Chapter 3, the Police Hall, Armory Room & Police Office weren't as good but the scenes after that improve again.
I liked how the main game ended but the cutscene was really short. I liked the ending to the CE/bonus chapter better.
CE bonus play: You comment on a picture that Roy (police officer) and the girl are getting married. My cell phone rings and I learn Roy has been arrested and we need to figure out why.
- I counted 13 scenes in the bonus play.
of those 10 scenes are new and 3 are old/revised from the main game.
- I think there are 6 HOP and 7 MG.
If you liked this game, you may want to demo
Mystery Tales: Her Own Eyes
This dev always offers several screensavers with the CE content so I tend to purchase a lot of CEs from this dev because of that. This game has 4 so I was thrilled by that.
Based on completed demo and a few levels after (purchased the CE version) This is a high 5 star for me. I'd rate it higher if I could.
What a beautiful (and very long) M3. This developer always tries to make each of their releases just a little different then the last so all of their games have some new thing to look forward to.
Large M3 boards cover your entire PC monitor with crystal clear graphics & 3D looking M3 tiles.
This version of JM seems to be all crystalized multi-colored pieces. They move slightly within the square and you have the option to shut off the movement with the "static" selection. I did notice when the pieces are moving they appear even clearer.
I barely made a dent in the demo. This is a long game and a lot for your money; not to mention quality! They don't skimp ever. There is even an ambient sound of running water if you don't want to listen to the music & game effect sounds.
3 modes: Relaxed, Move mode & Timed
Normal, Advanced, & Insane difficulty
One of my favorite things about this dev is the absolutely outstanding build scenes you create with your M3 currency. And my other favorite thing is the wallpapers. I get so happy waiting to see what the next wallpaper will be because once you’ve finally completed building your scene it converts to a wallpaper.
MULTIPLE CASTLES TO BUILD: This game has more than one build scene to complete! So there are also multiple wallpapers too. Wow. Now THIS is how it’s done. I am playing Jewel Match Twilight 2 now and thought how amazing these scenes would be as screensavers instead of wallpapers because the completed scene has moving items within it when you’re done.
IN CASE YOU GET STUCK: I like to fast match in relaxed mode and this game can still get tricky sometimes. So whenever you get stuck and can’t proceed with a board, just hit the next board's arrow & move on to another board in the level first. In JM Twilight you collect GOLD STARS to make items move in the build scenes. The easy and fast way to collect those is to play the crypt option instead of going to the next board in the map directly. It will give you an option to move to the next level in the map OR "do you want to play" the alternate screen first for bonus stuff. In JM Twilight it's called the crypt so it might be named something else. But just know the game automatically asks you at the end of a completed screen every so often, because at first I just wanted to keep going with the regular game and hit "no" and missed out on a lot of bonus boards to earn the gold stars to use on the build screens. They are super easy to play and it's basically just rounds of collecting coins & stars as an M3 board. There are also mini games you can select and that is something else entirely.
I haven't played a Jewel Match game I don't like. My favorites in this series are the JM Twilight 2 (which allows you to rebuild all the build scenes once they are complete without playing the boards again) and JM Naturescapes.
I demo'd & bought JM Origins 1 Palais Imperial at the same time as this, as well as JM Aquascapes (wow) and recommend those just as highly.
I wish this dev would take a chance at making a new Ancient Egyptian themed M3 like Cradle of Egypt...I can dream...
Thank you for another excellent job to every person that helped create this perfect game.
It is developed by Suricate Software and the replay value is timeless.
I recommend this game!
NEW in options:
The dev added a check box feature in options to turn off the shadow bulls-eye target that sparks when you click the mouse. That was so huge for me because I click a million times in this dev's games to find all the reactive items and found that target so distracting. And guess what? **That** was enough to push me into buying the CE version of this game in the 65off game club sale yesterday.
I agree with Volauvent (great reviews, btw.) Yes, same. I loved the story based on light and the world of Light Run. I too love multiple places to go (portals) in a HOPA because it breaks up the gameplay a bit when a location changes from night to day. I'm still requesting different CE content and some other small changes that many others are requesting too, but for now, I feel heard! I am so grateful for that change. Thank you Domini!!!
The scenery was beautiful to be in. The awesome VO for the main lead (Yarat) sounds like our missing Rick Rogers (?) Has this where our beloved Rick went missing to, the Land of Light? (Rick, buddy, can’t fool me, come back! Enough with you vacationing in this sparkling land of pretty. The paranormal cases need ya bad and so many are downright *hangry* at your absence; myself included!) Haha
This game has incredible environmental audio as well as the beautiful visuals. I love that the CE has 30 replayable cutscenes. Aside from a well done and complete story, I have always loved the cutscenes to bring a story to life more. Now if only I can have the cutscenes, *inside* the in-game journal in consecutive order with the storyline, the way our Granny has perfected this method in their games! This way I can review the story after that gap in time from when I demo the game to when I buy it (usually on sale.) It makes me feel way more connected to the entire game this way.
Check out another great game I loved based on Light (with the healer, Archangel Raphael.)
