It's been a *long* time since I've played a casual game. Today is 11-26-24 (and it's just before Thanksgiving) so that put me in the mood to try last year’s MCF.
I really didn't like the cartoonish graphics. I did notice while playing a little of one of the new Halloween HOPAs (for this year) that one of the main dev. at BFG have really cleared up the graphics to their games; so much so I was really impressed. So I had hoped because this had the MCF tag, that the graphics in this game would also be crisper than they were. I finished the 90min demo and my overall feeling was "ho, hum". The storyline is a basic mystery that I thought was way too bland to be a MCF... which is usually known to have more shock value and more involved storylines.
My end opinion is that this will be a stand-alone MCF title where the characters & locations will remain "unknown", both past and future. It's an ok game that I don't have any interest in playing to the end. Sometimes they do pick up after the demo... Next time, I hope for a way better storyline with crisp/clear graphics. One thing I did really like about this game was the journal/diary that you could review the story so far whenever you wanted.
This wouldn't be so bad if the graphics weren't so awful, because the artwork & music is pretty. The scenes (& unclear graphics) remind me of the background scenes for SE only version M3 boards. The fact it's out for the price of a CE is shocking. Just wow. If this game had clear graphics and a story I could see it getting better reviews. It should have been a HOPA.
I'm currently playing Maze Sinister Play and that one is worthy of a CE tag and then some. I’m glued to that game. It just makes me so nostalgic for the HOPAs of the past. I used to dump so much money into this site (especially completing a punch card for a free game). Those were the days. I'm just amazed this is the new CE out on Thursday. I really hate leaving bad reviews but I’m not sure what is happening at BFG.
Side note: My support and yes votes to Pennmom36, because it's not fair what's happening here re: the ongoing multiple NO voting on her reviews. I'm shocked at how long it's been going on and why? Why would anyone spend so much time & energy being a negative person when they could be doing something kind for someone else instead? If by chance the person reads this, it’s time to cut it out… It’s petty & mean. And it’s not fair to the rest of us here that love her reviews. I know how long it takes to play the entire game, write a review, and especially ones based on completed games like she always does. Please support her as much as possible and click YES on her reviews. Thanks! Peace...
I can't say I was in love with this game when it started. I think I warmed up to it the more I played. The artwork is truly outstanding and the pretty Soundscapes-type music really matched this game I thought.
You just whack away at color coded blocks with a number (1-9), that cover a beautiful stained glass like image. As you clear one colored block another gray block reveals itself underneath with a different number to clear; but not all of them had 2 layers.
I realized I was a bit bored playing it as "relaxed" so I changed up how I played by trying to clear the blocks as fast as possible (so this game might benefit by adding a timed mode). I was on a mission to see how many pictures I could clear in the 1hr demo (14, but some I was just chilling on). I liked that they let you play any level in any order. The game has a total of 64 levels so there seems to be a lot left after the demo. Of the group I played, I liked #9 & #17 the most.
This is one of those games you either need to be in the mood to play, or just a time killer, like sitting in a waiting room. My end rating is 3.8 stars I guess.
In the map screen you see 90 total little game boxes to choose from that are color coded into 4 categories. They are: 1. FIND THE DIFFERENCE- (the green boxes) 50 total in the game. Find approx. 14 differences between 2 pics +5 of one item (ex. 5 butterflies)
2. SWAP- (the brown squares) 12 total in game Swap the scrambled slot images to create a total picture.
3. MATCH- (the pink squares) 12 total in game Clutter type game where you make matches of 2 items at a time to clear them off the board.
4. DETAIL- (the purple squares) 16 total in game Hidden Object. Find the small thumbnail picture patterns somewhere in the clutter-like image. These are my favorite and I wish there were 50 of these instead.
LIKED + Graphics: Photos of real items combined to create full page images. + It has a 1280 x 800 setting which makes for a clearer picture, even on a large monitor. + You can play any of the 90 games you see on the map in any order + If you click the color coded tabs you can turn on/off your favorite types of the 4 games listed above.
DIDN’T LIKE (-) This dev uses the same game effect sounds from game to game, and even series to series. I don’t like the “bling-bling” overpowering pickup sound when you find an object. I wish they’d ditch that sound effect altogether and think the series would all benefit from different SFX from each other. I have stopped buying games in series because of certain sounds (especially some M3s).
(-) Divide the 90 games evenly. Why are there so many Spot the Difference and so few of the one I like most, “Detail” only has 16 of Find the thumbnail picture pattern in the scene, by comparison.
OTHER It would be cool to add a 5th type of HOP where you take a pictured item from the toolbar and place it with its matching object in the scene. An example of a cute one I loved in another game was to take a litter of kittens and place them back into the scene with their mom (so cute, they moved & meowed too). I suggest this because the game gets a bit monotonous after a while of doing so many of the same little games.
-RE Music: This game has a lot of different tracks but they are play only. No DL. It’s mostly piano and jazz-like. It reminded me of Charlie Brown and I ended up shutting it off soon in (but that’s just a personal like/dislike).
CE CONTENT: When you click on the CE tab it has these 2 tabs: -13 Soundtracks (Play only, no download) -15 Wallpapers (to download) The game’s description page says the CE has 22 bonus levels but I didn’t see them marked. I saw a total of 90 levels in this CE. I think the SE will be a better deal for this game and I don’t think it’s worth paying double for these extras. My end rating is 4.5 of 5 stars.
Similar games to this are: 1. So Much Stuff 2. & Twistingo is kind of like this.
I absolutely adore animals and my fur babies are the absolute joy of my existence. I love this series in general and loved this new addition too. This one is a buy.
This is such a quality game and it’s clear to me a lot of TLC went into making it. It has,
- Perfect graphics - Beautiful scenes - An abundance of cute animals - Well-hidden items - Really great morphing butterflies - Pretty & relaxing music (mostly guitar) - Great environmental sounds when the music is shut off - A great zoom feature - Really great CE wallpapers and - I liked the CE dev animals too
The only change I'd make is to add some movement into the scenes and add some 2 step items (apply this to that) or items that pop out when moused over.
Just a quick side note to the reviewers RE this game. I'm always surprised when a game (or series) this loved (by the majority) is given a horrible rating because reviewers just aren't that into that genre. I don't review Solitaire games because they just aren't my thing so I don't want to drag that game’s rating down if it might be someone else’s favorite game or series. Instead, I just skip that one and move on to the next. Obviously, it’s another thing to give a game a lower rating because it doesn’t compare as well to others of its type. Eh, it's just something to be mindful of, because I’m sure the devs work really hard on these games and it would really bum me out if someone really hated something I’d worked this hard on, ya know?
3 MODES of play: 1. Relaxed-easy 2. Relaxed-medium 3. Timed-hard LEVELS: CE has 69 ea. that unlock when you play the scene. The CE levels are listed with the standard levels and unlock as you play the game.
FIND 2 ITEMS EACH SCENE: 1. Each scene has either a flag or a ink-type stamp to find. There is an indicator for these that fills in (on the top middle of screen) when it’s found. The CE levels didn’t appear to have these. Finding 60 unlocks the first screen’s menu tab- “bonus minigame mode” and @60 stamps “unlimited mode” unlocks.
2. Find an ❽ BALL. The 8 balls didn’t have an indicator if you found them but could have used one. I didn't figure out the reason of the point system. You can’t buy any fun stuff with the points that I could see in the demo like we see in similar HOGOs.
HOS- have 5 modes that can be played in any order. Each scene has 16 items. 1. List (abc) 2. Scrambled words (cAb) unscramble the word, find the object 3. Missing vowel (_bc) find the objects matching the clue with the missing vowel 4. Riddle (?) Find the object in the riddle 5. Star (*)- find object with a shadow image
MG: Easy mini games, such as Find The Difference, are in-between every few HOS.
2 ZOOM ZONES per scene: They sparkle in the 2ndary windows if an item is currently in one.
GRAPHICS- Real photos make for crystal clear game play even on a large monitor. I wish the HOPAs would use this type of graphics for a change. I thought the scenes are colorful and interesting.
MAGNIFYING GLASS- Is found on R of toolbar and can be used to scroll scene but it isn’t a mouse-roll zoom. Instead, a small, round magnifier opens but the scene degrades looking through it.
PROGRESS TAB: In the menu, keeps your stats and score. DIARY TAB: Has a little informational blurb of the scene locations. It would be nice to see a thumbnail pic here just to connect more with the search scenes.
Below, I've listed the stuff I didn't like as much: (this is why I rated the game 3.8* instead of 5*)
MUSIC & SFX: Generally I’m not huge on the music in HOG only type games so when I shut it off I like to hear relaxing scene sounds instead. When you turn off the music in this game there are no environmental sounds at all. I prefer how it’s done in the series Our Beautiful Earth which has sounds in the scenes like running water, chirping birds, wind, etc. In this game you can only hear the ding when finding objects when the music is shut off.
SOUVENIRS- are an achievement page in this game. The points you earn are used here but to me they were no fun. Other games of this type give you things to buy with your points/currency and I just prefer that. (-) No moving items in the scene. (- ) I'm getting tired of replaying scenes in these same 5 search methods. I wish they would mix that up from series to series and give us full scenes of 2 step items (apply this to that) and put items back into the scenes type of HOP.
This M3 was just ok imo because of the graphics stretching out on a larger desktop monitor. They were pixilated to the point of blurry and it made the game not fun for me.
Be sure to play the demo because this may not be a huge deal on smaller laptops.
How this M3 was created is pretty good though. I liked matching the scissors to cut the center squares. The explosions could have had a bit more bang.
Based on completed demo (demo time took me 45 minutes- of the 90min offered) The SE is being offered today, with a code, as an Easter gift... (how cool is that)
* I start these aerial TMs in Relaxed mode to get a feel for things because I've never been an expert at this type of TM. So I'm mentioning this because even in relaxed mode there are a lot of tasks that keep you happily busy and moving along at a fast pace. I was happy to stay in the relaxed mode. :) * Good graphics * Cute characters & story * Music & environmental sounds are perfect for this game *No voiceovers. You click through conversational text between characters to advance story and it has a skip feature. * Hint features a ! above where to go next and you can turn it on/off anytime * In both versions reviews there are complaints this game may only get to level 44 when it shuts down. I got to level 6 or 7 in relaxed mode when the demo time was up and that took me 45 min. so even so, you'll get a good amount of play.
This game has a lot going for it and I thought it was a cute Easter game that was festive. This is a really great griddler but I did guess for a spot, or use hint on a few squares, because I was getting frustrated with so many lower numbers per color...but for the most part I could find the tiles by counting. I'm just the kind of player that doesn't like using hints in this type of game.
* It has a lot of different colors for the tiles * It's really colorful and fun in general * I really love the use of color for the column guides to let you know what color you are currently using * I loved that they gave you upgrades to decorate with * I thought the dog pointing out the hint spot was fun * I thought this game was pretty hard straight away because the numbers are low for the most part, per each color choice * I also really enjoyed the HOPs in between to break up the monotony a bit of grid after grid.
I'm in agreement with a lot of other reviewers about the robot; I’m not really a fan of him either. I really loved the little hint dog though.
The first thing I thought was how beautiful the graphics are. There are variations of full page clutter items using professional photography & pictures of real life items. It feels like this DEV cares about the details and what the gamer is seeing. Just beautifully done and I think its best in its class.
The game has 18 categories (such as vegetables, beach items, candy, fall foliage items, and places) and in each of those categories there are 4 groupings of games which are:
One of each of these per category: 1. “Sort” (matching items) 2. “So much stuff” (which is a unique version of a hidden object game where you find the objects hidden under clutter where there are written listed items to find on post-its). 3. “Click & swap puzzle” 4. a jigsaw puzzle ** I couldn’t find anywhere to skip any of these mini-games. So the next version they may want to change that. -I didn’t really like the sound effect when picking up an item. It's an annoying "bling-bling" game effect sound. After playing these games for years I've noticed the background and game effect sounds really matter a lot to me, especially when the game's music is shut off. -The guitar music was nice but it looped a bit too much and I ended up turning it off. - I was surprised to see this game released as a CE but this SE version is definitely worth it for me.
The CE version has these extras: 1. 8 more levels 2. Framed Collectible pages: As you play the multiples of an item type of HOP, you collect a few items (at the bottom of the pile of clutter to fill in an image. These ultimately end up in a few pages of gilded frames to view later). 3. Music player 4. Wallpapers Thank you to the people at Tiny Little Lion (& Boomzap) that created this terrific game. Well done!
