The second game in the Sable Maze series by Daily Magic Productions
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I own the first game and can say it is pretty great but I saw mixed reviews on this one and decided to give it a try before buying. Turns out it is dull as still water :(
There are 3 levels of difficulties. After a very boring intro, we are there to investigate the missing children, 3 months later?? talk about time consuming. The game story seems promising but I don't feel the hype at all, there's no mystery because the game is rather quiet, even though I tried to volume up.
Plus there's even typos, I saw 'Sinserly", didn't it go through proofreading?
The HO are the usual Daily Magic's combining objects type, which is a hassle for me. I rather just find items on the list. The puzzles are moderately easy. The map is pretty useful, luckily. The VO is fine but background sound is almost non existent. I found my game loading unusually slow. What's more, we can even quit directly from the game itself without having to go through the menu!
The bonus contents are... dry. Except bonus chapter, there's only music, wallpaper and concept art. Yup, that's it.
The game is unfortunately not engaging, no hype and excitement. I am glad I tried this first as I won't buy this game.
I don't recommend this game.

The fourth game in the Dark Dimensions series by Daily Magic Productions
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Their first game (City of Fog) is great, the 2nd one is a flop, the third one is terrible, and I was reluctant to play their fourth one, but I decided to give it a try. It sounds promising, however we are suddenly thrown into the scene, why are we there? There's no background story and we are suddenly there in the inn.
The instructions are a bit corny, like: hey, there's someone on the door, I have to find the key to know who it is, or something like that.. and to grab wires directly barehanded from exploded TV? I don't think so.
There are 3 levels of difficulties. The VO is actually pretty good, I think children voicing children character so it fits. The puzzles are mostly easy, and they are not new. HO are all combining objects, which is pretty hard for me. Map is useful and I use it all the time to move places.
The game unfortunately progresses slowly, maybe because I lose interest along the way. The wintery scene is great as it is summer now, but I don't know why I feel less excited as more and more tasks along the way.
The bonus content are the usual stuff, I like Developer's Diary, rather than Making Of, it's good to see some people behind the scene. I am sure they're putting lots of efforts in making this game, unfortunately it's not for me.. I have to pass..

The sixth game in the Dark Tales: Edgar Allen Poe series by ERS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Leave it to ERS, the game dev. famous for making weird and bizarre game storyline and I had high hopes for this series, being about EAP story and all, but this latest installment is the weirdest of all... if not with the whole genie, Frankenstein lookalike and blobbers thing going on, I don't even quite get the story.
There are 3 levels of difficulties. HOG are not many, but some are not the usual finding objects in the list type, puzzles are the usual ERS mini games. you can switch to Match-3 game if you don't like finding objects.
In this game you also will collect coins in doll houses. This does seem to distract the gameplay itself, especially since collecting the coins won't affect the game; it's only for collectibles. Finding exact spots on the photographs which can reveal secret places are quite old already, Mystery Case Files had done it in several of their games already. The only difference is that there's a clue behind each photograph.
It was pretty creepy at first but then the music effects seem to pop out suddenly and also disappear suddenly, which makes me go, "huh?" I remember vividly that Dupin doesn't sound like the one here, so maybe they change the voice actors. The VO are actually quite good, but the effects aren't.
Extras are the usual with replayable puzzles and HOG and story tab with original EAP story of the same name.
I am unsure with this game, although seem promising, I found the effects a bit too much. I hope they can just make it a good creepy game without any monsters.

The sixth game in the Grim Tales series by Elephant Games
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grim Tales is one of EG's best series and this time it's about family feud over inheritance. I like it that we are in court at the very beginning of the game, something very new, as we usually play as detective, but we are never shown present in court.
There are 3 levels of difficulties. HO is the usual finding items in list throughout the game. Puzzles are complicated type and I had to skip a LOT. Map is useful but I seldom use it as it is possible to move through scenes.
I am pretty sure that they use Nancy Drew game silhouette in this game, particularly one puzzle in Elizabeth's room. For a moment I thought whether I played the correct game.
The bonus content is the usual stuff, nothing new here. Collectibles are characters statues. There are also morphing objects.
Overall, a usual EG game, nothing new, but an interesting plot and storyline making it a nice game to play.
I recommend this game!

A game by Big Top Games
There are 3 levels of difficulties. You are detective investigating a man who suddenly disappears. A rather dark game. The intro movie is quite creepy. VO is available, and background music also fit the atmosphere. Items and graphics fit the era, overall graphically speaking is pretty nice.
HO game is the very usual finding objects in list and puzzle is moderately simple.
Extras are the usual stuff, not interesting, but I think the main story is good enough to stand by itself. I guess I will just buy the SE instead.
I recommend this game!

The third game in the Nightmares from the Deep series by Artifex Mundi
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another Nightmares from the Deep game!! you're once again the curator of the Caribbean Museum. This time you are dealing with Davy Jones. Action packed adventure game right from the very beginning!
Different from the one on the Caribbean movie, this time we deal with Davy Jones mostly in dry land, and he's in human form :)
There are 3 levels of difficulties. Characters and sceneries are beautifully drawn. VO is a bit off, not much expression there, sadly. HO and puzzles are not too many but a bit difficult. Skip button recharges very slowly. Map is pretty useful.
Extras are the usual stuff. Nothing new. I recommend this game because the story is nice and unique. It keeps you wanting for more.
I recommend this game!

A game by Deep Shadow
I tried this game because I was drawn to its title; it sounds like a dark, creepy game. But after I tried it, sadly it doesn't live up to my expectation. Haunted houses are typical mystery game plot, but this game is weird, you came as a tour group to a house that appears out of nowhere, only to find out that the house is eating people. We are not presented with any background story about the house until even I finished the demo. Who is the shadowy figure and why we just need to follow it? the characters seem to have phobia of something.
There are 3 levels of difficulty. Graphic is fine but creepiness doesn't really come across from those graphics. Hint is fine, map is quite clear and helpful as we have to backtrack a LOT. HOG is standard, not difficult to find the items because they're not so cluttered. Puzzles are moderately difficult but the skip button recharges very slowly.
There are live actors here, and actually I think their acting is not bad, but the VO does not really fit the characters which is a shame. I would rather see animations characters instead.
I think I will buy the SE as this is a promising game.
I don't recommend this game.

The third game in the Rite of Passage series by Mad Head Games
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rite of Passage game is back! Mad Head Games keep producing good quality game and this time, Rite of Passage tells a story of disappearing children in fog. I think it's neat although it's not the most original plot.
There are 4 levels of difficulties. HO is the same in their previous ROP games, clicking on objects in the list will show items and we need to complete the item by finding all the objects on the list. Puzzles are moderate, not too difficult.
I think the game is rather creepy, involving a ghost with glowing red eyes. Graphics are great, very crisp and clean, easy for the eyes. Map is very useful. Extras are the usual stuff but the main game itself is the main attraction. The game set in winter time,I think perfect to be played on hot summer days.
I recommend this game!

A game by Mad Head Games
------------------------------------------
There are 5 levels of difficulties. Love that the game offers something different, in terms of story and background. I love how the game is set in New Orleans, and involved lots of music.
Very nice storyline, not dark, but with mystery. Until the end it's suspense and curiosity on who is the real culprit. HO is one of the most innovative ideas I have ever played, and puzzles are moderate, quite simple, which I like. Map and hint is very useful. Great graphics and just look so real in New Orleans.
Extras are great, they are actually some of the usual stuff but were designed in such a way it doesn't look normal bonus contents. I love how creative this game dev. is. Surely one to look out for.
This game is a must-buy, definitely recommended.
I recommend this game!

The fourth game in the Surface series by Elephant Games
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, when the intro was played, what was that about? All I know is that Surface is a great game series and this latest one seem like made by amateur story writer. I wonder why Elephant Games even made such a game that can ruin the whole series.
There are 3 levels of difficulties. HO is the usual finding items on the list. Puzzles are simple mini games throughout. VO is rather corny, nothing with much expression and feeling.
The game is like combination of the movie Ring, Twilight Phenomena game series by ERS, and Botanica by Boom Zap. Now if they are made into separate game that would probably be better, but this one is lousy, sorry, I am glad when the demo is over and can make a decision never to buy this game, even the SE.
All bonus contents are the usual stuff, except Bonus Room which shows films collected from flowers in the game but again it's not that special.
Overall, a terrible game. I will not recommend this to anyone except if you like Tarzan movie. Not impressed. I hope EG got their act together and improve.
I don't recommend this game.
