The story begins with you, a retired detective, receiving a message about some mysterious deaths, all of them seemingly random. You decide that you can't pass up the opportunity to solve this puzzle, so off you go!
Pros: + Great graphics. Some are a little foggy/hazy in places, but for the most part everything looks crisp and bright to me. + Voiceovers are pretty good. Music is fine. + Collectibles are fun to find. + Three game modes to choose from, and you can decide whether or not you want the map to have help indicators. + Puzzles are twists on the usual puzzles. I haven't seen anything terribly new, but they're still fun. + Hidden Object scenes have interactive parts, which I like. + Achievements! (Even though none seem too hard to get, and some are automatic.) + Wallpapers and whatnot are unlocked when you buy the game, if you enjoy using them. + There's a chemistry kit where you get to mix perfumes, and a bottle that helps you to collect various scents around the game. + No lag between scenes here for me.
Cons: - The story isn't very inventive, but I'm glad it's in such a nice setting. - The "bad guy" is a little weird because he keeps popping up out of nowhere!
All in all, this is a really nice game. It's nothing groundbreaking, but still quite enjoyable.
You own a strange pet shop where a machine pops out the kind of animal the customer wants. As soon as you have enough money to purchase the machine that changes an animal's color, that's where it gets confusing! There's also machines that let you put a bow on the pets, so that makes it even more complicated.
You click on customers or their portraits at the bottom of the screen to tend to them and see what kind of animal they want. However, seeing black rabbits (that come from the machine as white) and white dogs (they come in black at first) gets confusing, since you get used to seeing them in their original colors. You definitely have to read and make sure you're clicking on the right animal because while they are all cute, they all look really, really similar.
The game does have a clock, and the customers do have little happiness meters above their heads that lower the slower you go, but it doesn't seem like a "beat the clock" kind of game. Perhaps later levels get harder.
The graphics are cute. The music is fine. The game has the typical time management story/cut scenes.
I'm just not sure if I really like this game. I didn't feel like I was having fun playing it, and having to look at the picture of the pet, then read the word underneath telling me what kind of animal it was (just so I was totally sure) kind of takes the fun out of it. It reminds me of Cake Mania where the item you make gets more and more complicated as the game progresses, to the point where it's no longer fun for me.
In short: - Cute graphics. Storyline isn't that interesting. Music is OK. - Game is timed. - Typical "serve customers what they're asking for" kind of game (which I normally like). - Game gets super confusing super fast. - I didn't see any trophies or anything like that.
Find the festivalgoer abducted by the gargoyles of Notre Dame and uncover the cathedral’s dark past in this reimagining of the Victor Hugo’s classic tale.
I quite like this game! You're a detective out to solve the mystery of a missing girl. Sounds boring, but it wasn't too bad! I appreciate that the story is set somewhere besides a dreary castle, too.
Pros: + Graphics are super sharp and crisp looking. There are bright colors! + HOs have interactive parts and places to zoom in and look. + Music is pretty good. Some of it fits the theme of the game very well. + It's nice to hear voiceovers that aren't bad English accents! + The game sticks with the French theme even throughout the black bar tips, which is kind of funny. + Achievements! + Map that lets you jump from scene to scene.
Cons: - Achievements can't be collected in one go, as in (slight spoiler) you have to play the game multiple times, each in a different game mode, to possibly collect all achievements. - Character models are a little... lumpy? The faces of some of the characters are a little odd and stick out compared to the lovely graphics everywhere else, but it's not a big deal.
Pros: -Smooth gameplay. -Artwork is nice and bright. -Mahjong tiles can be changed to whichever set you like. They all have generally the same theme, but some have roman numerals instead of "regular" numbers, so you can change that. -Ability to shuffle tiles when needed. -Ability to highlight just the active tiles, if you need that. -Objectives to achieve in each level, e.g., get X amount of gold, complete the round in less than X amount of time, etc. -Levels are replayable to get all of the achievements. -There are trophies, but they don't look too difficult to get.
Cons: -Story could be more interesting and/or explained. -More achievements where you actually need to work at the game to get them would be nice.
All in all, this is a nice mahjong game. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but it seems nice to play when you need a break from other games.
I like this game, although I can't quite put my finger on why, exactly, since I think my cons outweigh my pros. I think I'd give this game 3 1/2 stars, but I rounded up.
-The story is pretty interesting. It seems like more of a mystery than a "dark and eerie" sort of thing. -The graphics aren't great, but are OK. Some scenes are pretty dark. -Puzzles are easy, so far, and are of the standard kind you see in most games, so nothing new there. -Hidden object scenes are interactive, but again, nothing really exciting or new going on there. -Voice acting is decent. Characters are animated and hand drawn looking, and their mouths don't move, but that's fine with me. -You have to get a certain number of achievements to unlock some of the bonus items, which I think is kind of terrible. -Speaking of achievements, this game has them, but none of them are terribly difficult to get (which I guess helps with the above item). Most of them seem like an automatic thing, i.e., they unlock as the story unfolds. -Black bar tips are enabled even in advanced mode, and some of them are pretty specific so that they basically tell you what you need to do or what item you should use ("I need a hammer to open this!"), which is sort of irritating.
All in all, it's a nice game, but it's not amazing and it doesn't bring anything fantastic or new to the table.

This game covers the same basic match-3 storyline involving food. You obtain a restaurant. You need to fix it up. Woo hoo.
Pros: - Match-3 mechanic works well. - You can upgrade your restaurant. - Customers randomly come by and ask you for specific items, and this gives you some sort of time boost (although that's not really needed, because the timer seems to be really, really generous.)
Cons: -Annoying music. -Not-so-great graphics. -Each time you find a new food item, the game must tell you! Must! -Restaurant upgrades are entirely too expensive.
There's not much to this game other than playing the match-3 boards, filling character requests, and buying upgrades. The "simulation" aspect in the blurb on the game's main page made this game sound way more interesting than it actually is. It's basically a more poorly redone version of a Coffee Rush kind of a game.
I don't recommend this game.

Murder, She Wrote 2: Return to Cabot Cove
Take on the role of beloved murder-mystery writer Jessica Fletcher and return to lovely (but lethal) Cabot Cove!
From the demo: Though this game feels a little "less than new," it's still pretty enjoyable. It's a typical leisurely murder mystery. The first case is set in a nice little fishing town with Autumn leaves falling and cute little shops all over the place.
Pros: - Nice graphics. Not the best ever, but not bad. - The same typewriter hint system is in place from the last game, where you find letters hidden in scenes in order to fill in the blanks of your hidden object lists. (I think it's fun.) - Two modes: casual, which shows sparkles, and advanced, with no sparkles - Voiceovers are quite good. - There are three separate cases to solve! - The cases seem to be straight up murder mystery, which is a nice change from something supernatural. - Worked in normal, non-black-bar widescreen on my monitor, and has an aspect ratio button if you need it.
Cons: - You only get hints by collecting all of the spare letters in the hidden object scenes. - Hidden object scenes are a little junkpile-y. - Using inventory objects can be a little too linear at times, but it's not too bad. - Puzzles are a little easy, although somewhat entertaining.
The residents of Bitterford, Maine have fallen prey to a terrible curse. It’s up to you to unravel the series of mysterious events that led to the town’s downfall and uncover the evil that was responsible.
This is from the demo: (Well, and maybe more, since I bought it.) Backgrounds and screensavers and whatnot are locked at the beginning, but they are unlocked once you get past a certain point in the game.
Pros:- Interesting hidden object scenes. They take up whole rooms. They're not exactly interactive, though, minus zooming in on drawers and maybe using a key to open something. - Really great graphics. - Voice acting/acting is good. The Ghost Hunter guy made me laugh. - Music is fine. I like that it's not overbearing. - The journal keeps track of things you need to remember, for the most part.
Cons:- The story (so far) is not that original. - Mini-games are pretty easy. - The strategy guide is awful. No table of contents. No pages! It only gives you a solution for the screen you're on, except sometimes even that doesn't work, and it gives me the previous screen that I've already solved. You can't tell how many chapters the game is. - "Live" puzzles are weird. The puzzle pieces have a "weight" to them, so when you move them around the sort of spin and they can bump into each other and wreck the alignment of the other pieces. - No achievements! - Collector's edition things are not explained well. I see "bonus content" in the journal on some pages, but it's not explained.
This game is a nice change of setting! It's a little creepy, but the underwater setting and story are nice. Yes, you're still out to rescue someone, and there's still a crash of sorts, but at least it's sort of different.
Pros: - Fantastic graphics. - Music is good. Voiceovers are good. - There are three modes of gameplay. - There is a jump map that will tell you if there are things that need to be done in certain areas (not available in expert mode, and you don't get the map until a ways into the game). - Some sort-of-newness to the usual mini-games, plus some of them have multiple parts (as in, do a small puzzle to open a case to get to the larger puzzle). - There are achievements. - If you don't want to do hidden object scenes, you can play dominoes instead. - There's a bonus chapter after you finish the main game (and in a standard edition game!).
Cons: - The noise when you click on objects in the hidden object scenes is kind of annoying. - A few spots where the graphics are iffy in one area of a scene, but the majority is really pretty.
All in all, this is a lovely game, especially for a standard edition one! It's a little spooky and there's a mystery to solve, but it's also quite nice to look at.
If you're a fan of Match-3 games, check this one out! It has a lovely little story (although that's not the best part).
Pros: - Clear, bright graphics. Very cute characters. - Building the main building in each section is fun. You also get to use money you collect to buy decorations and buildings for your main hub/town. - Music is non-obtrusive. -Gameplay is fun and varied. There are match-3 games as well as variants on that dubbed "mini-games," which can help you get new blueprints for hub buildings. -Everything is so pleasant that it's a nice change from the onslaught of dark and dreary games (which I do enjoy).
Cons:- Instructions could be a bit more clear, but I figured everything out straight away, anyway.
All in all, this is a cute, fun Match-3 game with many things to do on the side so that you don't get totally bogged down in just playing match-3 boards. This is the nicest one I've seen in quite a while!
