The Inner World is a quirky, hysterical game that is very entertaining and after only a short time I had to stop and purchase it. Our hero Robert is the adopted son of Conroy who is the head guru of Robert’s little world. After a run-in with a very smart pigeon who steals Conroy’s special amulet, Robert is off on his own adventure to catch the little winged thief.
The graphics are cartoonish in style but the dialog and voiceovers bring the characters to life. The dialog is so comical that I found myself continuously laughing. The in-game manual is almost a must so that you can figure out the logistics on how to combine inventory items. The hint system is quite good and offers the nudge you might need in steps. If you can’t figure out what to do after the first hint, you can click the arrow and it drops down another hint and then more if needed.
This is an amazing and creative game – one that I haven’t found in ages. Gone are the glitzy graphics that have been replaced by the cartoon characters. The Inner World is a must have game for those who are looking for an adventure style game that is so different than the polished games we always see where we are basically hand-fed during our adventures. With The Inner World you will have to put on your thinking cap and figure out what to do step by step. I love this game and can highly recommend it for those of you looking for something different. As always, I recommend that you try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy.
I recommend this game!

Let me start by saying that I am generally not a fan of TM games since I have too much TM when working BUT, I have to admit that I did find this game a bit of fun to play particularly since it has a Relaxed mode of gameplay where I don’t have to play beat the clock.
The graphics and sound, aside from the repetitive clock like music are quite good. I really liked the opening cutscene and voiceover that set the stage for the game. I play my games on a 28” monitor that is hooked up to my laptop so I have a nice large screen to view and the graphics are amazingly crisp and clear with gorgeous, brilliant color.
Since TM games are not my basic cup of tea, I will most likely skip the CE and wait until the SE is released before purchasing the game. All in all, it is a huge plus for the game that I am even considering a purchase. For those of you who love the TM genre, I recommend that you give the 12 Labors of Hercules IV a try. I think that now I am going to go back and at least have a look at previous games in the series.
I recommend this game!

Years after I finally convinced myself that MY secret friend from childhood was just a dream or maybe my overactive imagination, I now see that just maybe he was real after all, and who knows he might literally have been from another world. In Beyond Light Advent, an absolutely awesome game from those Mad Hatters, we play the game as Diana who now realizes that her childhood friend was actually real and from another planet. He has returned on a mission to save our planet but he is going to need Diana’s (our) help and so begins an adventure to save not only earth but Nix’s home planet as well.
The graphics are amazing and with a great sound package this game is everything I hoped it would be. The game offers four modes of gameplay: Stargazer, Astronomer, Cosmologist, and Physicist that is the custom mode. If it is available I always select the custom mode so that I can set the game to play as I like, specifically with the hint and skip times that vary in this game from 15 to 90 seconds.
Your tools include a transporter type map, and a special bracelet that you receive from Nix. Of course you will need to find items that “charge” the bracelet periodically before it can be used.
As usual there is a nice variety in the HOPs where we find the standard list type as well as silhouette and others. The puzzles in this game seem a step up from the norm and I found a couple that I skipped, only because I was so interested in the storyline that I didn’t want to take the time to fiddle with them, but overall I was thrilled with the puzzles in Beyond Light Advent. Even though I initially skipped some tougher puzzles when I replayed the game I managed to get through them.
I purchased the CE version of the game and found it to be quite excellent. Beyond Light Advent is a game that I will play many times throughout the coming years and it will be close to the top of my list of favorite games. I loved the game and everything about it and would give it more than 5 stars if I could. Although I found the game to be stellar, as always, I recommend that you try the demo to see if Beyond Light Advent is a game you will enjoy.
I recommend this game!

Haunted Hotel Phoenix is the seventh game in the series and an excellent mystery with a new look. Phoenix takes place in Oregon, USA during 1979 an area that has been ravaged by recent wildfires. The authorities are not sure if the fires are the work of an arsonist or are perhaps caused by the legendary Phoenix of Oregon since witnesses report seeing bird shapes flying in the fires. In a crossover nod to another series from this developer, you are a detective working with the renowned Mystery Trackers organization and have been called in to investigate the fires in Oregon. You arrive at the Stone Spires hotel and that is where your adventure begins.
The game offers four modes of gameplay: Casual, Advanced, Hardcore and Custom. If you select the custom mode you can click various settings on or off depending on how you like to play. Most important for me is the setting for hint and skip times. In this case the time range for both settings is between 15 and 90 seconds. Another option this developer includes in its games is the option to either continue or reset the game when starting to play after exiting a previous gameplay session. Many times if I think I have missed something early in the game I will select the reset option so that I don’t have to change my profile name and then fiddle with all the game settings. I wish more devs would offer this time-saving option in their games. The graphics are very good and appear nice and crisp on my laptop. The sound package is wonderful with music that seems a bit loud even when turned very low. The game has wonderful voiceovers that add a lot to the game. I rather like this modern new look for the Haunted Hotel series.
Your tools include a journal and an interactive transporter type map that are present at the beginning of the game. You will find other maps as needed as you progress through the game but those are only for specific purposes.
The HOPs include the standard list (my personal favorite), uncover matching pairs, finding a specific number of a certain item in some areas, and silhouette. Some of the HOS require a bit of interaction but not all of them and that is okay with me since I become very tired of HOPS require so much interaction that they become tedious. I like what first drew me to the genre and, fortunately, this series still offers me the basics. On the other hand, I love puzzles and, sadly, I didn’t seem to find many of them in the demo but I hope they will show up later in the full game.
The extras in the CE release of the game include collectibles, morphing objects and some extra goodies. The rest of the CE content is consistent with what we normally find in CE releases.
Overall, I loved this game. The game has a great storyline that sucked me in and held my interest. The pace seemed good and didn’t drag on too long before capturing my interest. When I finished the demo, I couldn’t wait to hit the buy button because I know this is a game I will love. What a great new spin on the Haunted Hotel series and if future games are this good, I say keep them coming. We all have different tastes in games and although this is a game I really love, you might not agree. Please try the demo and see if Haunted Hotel Phoenix is a game that you will enjoy.
I recommend this game!

Unfortunately there is just no magic in this lackluster griddler that can in no way compare to those beautiful fantasy boards and graphics that we are often fortunate to get here at BFG.
Although the screen graphics are lovely the game falls short in other aspects. At least on my laptop the game had bars, even though they were patterned, on either side of the screen. The game has very few options so I couldn’t select a widescreen setting if I wanted. The music is annoying and repetitive to say the least so I finally had to turn off the sound. Another option that is sorely missed in this game is that the unused squares do not autofill once the active squares are filled in. I also dislike is the very small game boards with equally tiny squares.
Sorry but as much as I love the pictograph types of games this is one is a pass for me. These griddlers just fall short in so many ways that I find them tedious and not fun at all.

Dark Realm: Princess of Ice begins with a cutscene that was worthy of any epic big-screen production and most likely one of the best I have seen in a casual game. This icy fantasy begins when you suddenly awaken with a huge `bear in your room who tells you that Princess Marissa has been trapped in a frozen tower and that you must rescue her. I don’t know about you but if a huge bear roars at me in the middle of the night and then swipes at me with a gigantic paw, you can bet I would do what he asks. So begins your journey to the Kingdom of Nypha to rescue the princess.
The game offers four modes of gameplay with catchy names: Frost, Snowfall, Blizzard, and Custom. If you select the custom mode you can choose your own settings. The hint and skip buttons can be set from 15 – 90 seconds. Princess of Ice has wonderful crisp and clear graphics that are a mix of hand drawn artwork scenes along with some live actors for the characters. I think the Mad Hatters must have had an inside joke when your character’s female advisor, Myrina, was obviously a man. Too funny! The overall sound package is excellent with lip-synced voiceovers that are very good. If they give out awards for sound in games then Princess of Ice would have my vote for best sound package in a game this year.
Tools include a bracelet that we acquire from the bear early in the game and it is linked to another “gift” that we receive as well. I don’t want to fill in all the details on what to do with the bracelet but it will help us in iffy situations. The interactive transporter type map that is available at the beginning of the game and it will help us travel quickly from one area to another.
The HOPS are varied in nature with some being multi-level. There is also some interaction required in most HOPS to locate several items. The puzzles also have quite a bit of variety but I have to admit that early on there is one of the type that I dislike where we must avoid obstacles as we speed race along a path. I manage to crash into every obstacle along the way in these types of puzzles so I generally hit the skip button as soon as I can.
In the CE version of the game the extras include 17 morphing objects, 44 collectible crown symbols to find; and yes, there are those ever-present achievements that are earned as we play the game. Along with the special features we find the ordinary fluff that is included in all CE games such as the strategy guide, bonus game, wallpapers, soundtrack and other goodies. Because I find the soundtrack to be so terrific, this is one time that I appreciate that extra perk.
Princess of Ice grabbed me from that opening cutscene and there was enough momentum that kept me intrigued and wanting more. I found the storyline to be very good and, although the theme is redundant and has been presented many times, I knew right away that Princess of Ice would be a game that I would love. As always, I recommend that you try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy.
I recommend this game!

In Chains of Promise the latest game in the Spirits of Mystery series we encounter some familiar faces, among them the ever present nanny and the evil wizard Isa. As our tale begins Isa is back to his conniving ways as he promises a grieving king that he will save the king’s dying daughter if the king will grant him any wish. Fast forward many years and the now grown daughter, Princess Adele, is betrothed to marry none other than the court advisor Isa. You have received an invitation to Adele’s wedding and must now journey to the Black Unicorn kingdom to attend but while traveling you read a note from Adele begging you to prevent the marriage. And thus our tale of intrigue begins.
This game comes to us from one of my favorite development teams that always include awesome and beautiful hand drawn artwork in its games. The thing I have noticed about this game and with others in the series is that many of the characters are recycled from previous games but if you haven’t played the other games in the series then you won’t notice the familiarity. In Chains of Promise the developer offers us four modes of gameplay: Casual, Advanced, Hard and Custom. If you select the custom mode you can set your hints to recharge virtually as quickly as you like with a range from 5 to 200 seconds and the same range applies to skipping puzzles. The sound track is very good and I happen to love the signature theme music from the Bunny Team that is present in all of their games. As always the voice-overs are excellent and we once again have lip-synced characters. Chains of Promise has 5 chapters for the main game and then we have the bonus game.
Unfortunately the tools include what is becoming another of this team’s signature pieces, a mirror that when filled with power is used to reveal that which is hidden. I don’t know when the message will get through that many of us dislike these types of items or gimmicks included in our games. The other useful tool is our transporter type integrated map that is found at the beginning of the game.
The HOPS are vintage and do require some interaction. At least during the demo I didn’t find any of the progressive type where we must find one thing and then use it to find another and so on. Those happen to be my least favorite so I am quite happy with what I have encountered thus far in the game. I will say that most of the puzzles were easy but one of them seemed a bit trickier than usual and perhaps it was only because I was rushing a bit and didn’t want to think about the puzzle too long. In my experience the puzzles that the Bunny Team includes in its games become progressively more difficult as we move further along so I know that there will be some challenge ahead.
Although this is a game that I like to call CE light, I guess it really boils down to a matter of personal opinion as to whether you want to purchase the CE or wait for the SE release. Impatient creature that I am, I always find it hard to wait particularly when there is a game from one of my favorite developers. For those of you who want to know, the game has 22 collectible stamps to find, achievements to earn, movies, wallpapers, concept screensavers, music, mini-games, and HOPS, the in-game strategy guide and the bonus gameplay.
As is the case with many other BFG members, I have been playing HOPA games for years and I first acquired this love of the genre and cut my teeth on games from the Bunny Team. I have found most of their games to be very enjoyable and wrapped in a package that presents everything I look for in a game. I have to admit that as seasoned as I am in finding my way around in HOPA games, Chains of Promise was a bit of a challenge because it was not always apparent what I needed to do next to move forward. For many the game will be considered very easy but I happen to love the level of challenge that is just right for the way I like to play. I play HOPA games to relax and unwind so I don’t enjoy playing a game that I might find frustrating. Chains of Promise is just right for me and given the package of beautiful graphics, relaxing music, fun gameplay, great storyline, and wonderful puzzles and HOPs, it is everything I want in a game. Who knows, maybe this time we will finally get rid of Isa – lol. Although the game was an instant buy for me, as always, I recommend that you try the demo to see if it is a game you will enjoy.
I recommend this game!

Mahjong was one of the first computer games I discovered along with solitaire and has been one that I play almost every day. Mahjong Huntress has some good things going for it and could have been so much better. I liked the interesting storyline but that is about one of the only plus factors in the game for me.
The biggest drawback for me with Mahjong Huntress is the teeny-tiny game tiles. I couldn’t find a way to enlarge them so rather than strain my eyes to see the tile designations I gave up. Had the tiles been larger, I think I would have enjoyed the game. Another thing I don’t like is that there is no untimed or relaxed gameplay mode. I don’t know how many times we all need to say the same thing about these types of games but the message just doesn’t seem to get through.
With a bit of restructuring of the tiles, this would probably be a game that I would buy but in its present form, it is definitely not a purchase for me. If you have great eagle-sharp eyesight then I would recommend you give the game a try. If not, then you might want to pass up on this one as well.
I don't recommend this game.

While on a trip with your fiancé Matt, your car is blocked by an obstacle in the road and when you exit the car you are attacked by a horrible beast. As you are desperately trying to escape you fall into old ruins – probably an old castle, and now you must find a way to find a way out and reunite with Matt. Be prepared to face danger and excitement as you meet with other obstacles and find your way to safety.
Dracula’s Legacy is rather basic and offers only two modes of gameplay casual and advanced. Game settings are fairly minimal as well but the game did open automatically in widescreen. There are lip-synced voiceovers that at times seem stilted as someone is reading the text but overall they are not bad. The voiceovers were a bit of a surprise because at the beginning of the game there is no dialogue with Matt, only a bit of grunting as you run from the beast. The user interface is a bit different than usual and consists mostly of buttons that appear at the top of the screen. In many ways the game seems more like an old-style, large file adventure game.
When it comes to tools, there really are none except those you find during your adventure. There is no map but there is a button in the user interface area that seems to highlight available areas when clicked.
The HOPs seem minimal with items that are not too difficult to find but some interaction is required to obtain a few items. The puzzles also seem easy very early in the game and are fairly typical such as spin rings to complete a picture to open a door. Hopefully the puzzles will become more difficult as the game progresses.
I don’t have any true phobias but did jump once or twice when I came upon a hissing snake or other creepy-crawlies. The beauty of this game is in its adventure as we try to make our way out of the ruins. Early on in the game we are warned by someone we meet that we need to escape before nightfall or we will be in even greater danger as the castle’s occupants awaken. Even though the game is not super polished it is what I consider a great game. The story and the style of the game grabbed me, and I knew within the first fifteen minutes of gameplay that Dracula’s Legacy is a game that I will love. Although I find this an excellent game, as always, try the demo to see if this is the type of adventure game you enjoy.
I recommend this game!

In the past couple of years there have been several games released that have painting portals but, IMHO, none have been done as well as in Subliminal Realms The Masterpiece. When the game was first released as a CE I didn’t think I would like it but I did give it a fair shot and it ended up being one of my favorite games of 2015.
The graphics are very good and quite colorful as we paint our way to the end of the game. One of the unique features of the game is that throughout our progress we help Albert complete his works of art. In each scene that comes to life there are many things to accomplish that will help us move forward.
Fortunately, our tools include an interactive map that is very necessary in this game. We do have a helper, a flying dog character who can help us retrieve certain objects. I rather liked Smudge and didn’t find him annoying at all, in fact, I really enjoyed his sense of humor.
All in all the game took several days to complete and I loved every minute that I spent searching for objects and completing Albert's paintings. Without hesitation I would heartily recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like. I know that I am glad I decided to give The Masterpiece a second look.
I recommend this game!
