Finally it's back. The Puppet Show I knew from the very first game in the series is back, with its dark atmosphere, coherent storyline and original puzzles. The evil spider puppet, too, makes a cameo appearance - as a guest star, I guess. There are still a few questions that remain unanswered after the game's been finished, but maybe the Collector's edition has the answers... I enjoyed playing the game, and the only thing that was a little annoying was the need to place the objects at a precise spot to make things work - and it was hard to figure out where exactly this precise spot was sometimes. Other than that, playing the game was a very pleasant experience.

I am surprised by negative reviews as this is a very well made, long enough, challenging enough (but not to the killer level) brightly painted, relaxing game. The story has nice little twists, the puzzles are more or less original and make you think while keep your sanity. The artists did a much better job on this one than on Little Mermaid where my eyes were bleeding at times. My only problem with this game was when I solved one of the shadow puzzles correctly, but the game refused to accept it :) I had to skip that one, and it was slightly annoying, but other than that, I enjoyed playing the game - more so, by the way, than some of the previous Dark Parables stories.
I played this game at Hardcore mode, and even then it was so simple that I couldn't stop yawning. You find an inventory item, and in most cases you use it right away. The puzzles could be called so only out of politeness. No challenge whatsoever, everything was very straightforward, the storyline was far-fetched to put it nicely, and when the immortality topic showed up, the game was done for for me. There's an absolute absence of imagination and creativity. The only good thing in the game was the music.
Don't get me wrong, it is a very good game - a well-built, long game with a lot of extra features including a bonus game (which is also decently long for a bonus), and this is why I gave it solid 4 stars, but...
As many reviewers rightfully noticed here, the thrill is gone. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something is missing. I almost felt nostalgiс when I entered the asylum in the bonus game - I remember this corridor and this manipulation room, - but it was like coming back to a place you left long ago only to find out that everything's changed. The door leading to the manipulation room used to have a wonderfully elaborated lock - a big puzzle that fascinated me, - and now there's only a plain almost boring puzzle. The bed inside used to have a twitching mannequin that gave me creeps - now it's empty, and the place doesn't look half as eerie as it was. Maybe we've just got satiated with great games and can't value a real gem anymore, but still I think that nothing can beat the good old original Ravenhearst games.
If you are new to the series, play ahead - it is a good game, if you are not - prepare to be disappointed.

I like a good spooky game every now and then, and "Maze..." didn't disappoint me. It was creepy enough, with many typical elements of nightmares that everybody probably had at some point. I didn't find the game too challenging - and I played the hard mode. Apart form the creepy factor though, there is something else that makes this game stand out. You are offered choices throughout the game, and you must choose wisely, or else... The graphics, music and the storyline (for the most part) were praiseworthy, except for the spiritual element of the story which, to me, would have been much creepier had it been based entirely on human psychology and the depths of human mind. Nevertheless, this game is definitely a gem. Enjoy!
It's a wonderfully crafted game with beautiful crisp graphics, moderately challenging (and moderately original) puzzles and a pleasant surprise - a built-in bonus prequel. Just when you thought the game was over, you get more time to play in a completely new location, and it is not even a collector's edition! I would say it's one of the best games on Big Fish, don't miss it!
There are two good things in this game: the developers' splash screen and the story. Everything else is bad. Too many locations with little to nothing to do, clumsy graphics and sloppy animation and puzzles, narration slip-ups, unconvincing dialogues and on top of it - absolutely terrible hidden object scenes. The game is designed for wide screen only, so for those unlucky ones who don't have a wide screen monitor - like myself, - the sides simply get cut off. That is, the silhouettes of the objects-to-find get cut off - which not only adds challenge to the game, but also raises frustration. I would say that from the technical point of view this is the worst game I have played in years. Too bad, because the story really had potential, and maybe some other developer would have turned it in a true gem. Alas, this is not the case.
I don't recommend this game.

The Big Secret of a Small Town
Find out what is hidden behind the mysterious disappearance of the Mayor.
No, it wasn't the only thing I liked about this game, but it was important. It set the right mood and created the impression that I was playing the type of a game I had never played before. Another thing that I loved were puzzles and minigames, which (for the most part) were also different from usual ones. The story, thankfully, does not involve any princesses (of which I am getting sick) and there is a steampunk air to it. As to the difficulty of the game, even though I have been playing only the hardest mode for the last few months, this one made me resort to the walkthrough to see the solution of puzzles twice and skip a puzzle once. To me, this is a disgrace, but also a sign that the game is really, really good.
What do you like in a good adventure game most of all? Morphing objects? Check. Old amusement park with creepy clowns? Check. Scary hospital or a doctor's office? Check. Ghosts? Check, check, check. A little bit of this and that, everything a player might like, a ton of different locations with many things to do, various types of hidden object scenes, a handful of not-so-hard puzzles and the ending with a twist. To me, this is definitely one of the best games I have found on this site, so don't miss it.
I was playing this game and thinking about the wonderfully excited review I was going to leave for future players and the developers, all full of praize and amazement. And then - BAMM!.. - I got to the end of the game, which wasn't really the end. "To be continued"? Really?.. Were they so unsure that people would be willing to buy another game from them that they had to resort to this cheap trick? My mood changed in an instant. What's more, the announced release date was somewhere in the Autumn of 2014, the promise they could not keep. Disappointment is the word.
Now to the game. Possible spoiler warning!
While the thrilling factor is there alright, the logic is beneath criticism. No human being would act with such feeble-mindedness when it comes to their safety and life, and poke at every single Dark And Dangerous with a stick. Suppose you are reckless enough to jump in your car in the dead of night and head to a long abandoned house, but would you venture in after seeing a zombie-like figure stumbling around? Or would you rather stay where you are and call the police? It also remained a mystery to me how the heroine managed to remember the events happened with her pregnant mother, while the heroine herself was in her mother's womb. But wait, do I really look for logic in games?
Ok, I can overlook this because, honestly, the game is still good. Things like realism and general logic aren't something to cling to when it comes to games. But there are some other little things that are annoying. In hidden object scenes you may need to find, say, a belt. There will be at least three, but only one of them will be "the" belt. Good luck clicking! There was a scene where I was desperately looking for a guitar, only to find out that a guitar and a mandolin is basically the same thing for the developers, and another one where by "cell" they meant "bird cage", and "jewelry" is not any jewelry, but just one specific piece - while other pieces are abundant. Then there are some areas that stay active even when all possible actions have been done, while other areas stop being active, and it's confusing, because you don't see the pattern - there is no pattern. Unfortunately, there is no "technical quality" rating, so I cannot express my frustration in stars. At the same time, sound and visuals, the level of challenge and the storyline were really good, hence the apparent discrepancy between my rating and the tone of my review. The game got four stars from me because of these little things, and yes... there is no ending. I will probably still buy the second game (if the developers finish it ever), but the feeling that I was tricked into it is very upsetting.
I recommend this game, but be warned. You will have to buy one more.
