I like this series-detective stuff really interests my kind of brain. This wasn't a terrible game, especially compared to the purple stuff coming out weekly. But it wasn't compelling at all. I agree with reviewer who is going to wait for the SE. This just didn't have the pull to make me want to buy. Back to my old games.
I'm asking myself why I keep giving this developer another chance. I read the reviews that praise them and think, maybe this time? Well, wrong again. Nothing fresh or new here, another classic story twisted about and all in washes of pastels as if I arrested in a 10 year old's art dream. I couldn't finish the demo, I was bored and irritated.
Not the only one playing only the old games, I see. So, many thanks to those who recommend old ones. I've found some I hadn't known about (YAY!!) and been reminded of old favorites. So keep them coming, fish friends!
So mystery trackers have joined the cgi template team, apparently run by a certain developer addicted to purple and jumping inventory. All these games seem to just have tweaks done to characters' faces, and new voiceovers. Other than that, you've got cookie cutter stuff. I'm having a hard time remembering when a new game was anything other than boring. So sad. I couldn't make it past 5 minutes.
I was surprised at the low rating this usually loved series was getting, so read about the tech problems. Breathed a sigh of relief when it downloaded okay (multiple prompts for C++ notwithstanding). Played about a third of the way through with no problems, and loving it. Cheesy, warm and wonderful as a plate of well made nachos. But then it started to freeze, okay restart. Freeze, restart. Then it crashed my system. So sad to see 2020 mess with Casual Arts too. Is nothing safe? Wry laughter. Sigh. So I can't really recommend a wonderful developer's sweet game.
This is not the most challenging game but it is quite innovative in its mini games. I see such effort here on the part of developers to give us something new. Some of the tasks are almost done for you but then the next task will be quirky and not easy at all. So, thanks! It's soothing, and lovely and best of all, during the mini games, they play this haunting flute music that I absolutely love. I stall finishing just so I can listen to it. It's recognizable from their older games. The only reason I didn't award five stars is the lack of difficulty, and that is my quirk probably not shared by many. Try this one, take a wonderful little break. This is based on demo.
I'm glad a game has come out I actually want to buy. I beta tested this and remembered thinking highly of it and it holds up. It's a darker theme at holiday season. I hope it doesn't do poorly because of that. But for me, being really tired of cheesy, childish, overbright and overwrought games? This is a relief. It's not the most challenging of game play, no. But at least everything doesn't jump off the screen at you like a hyperactive child screaming "click on me!!!" You get to ferret around yourself a bit to find stuff. Ahhhhh. Brain happy. Check out Brian's fingernails. How'd you miss that, you silly cow.
My favorite game series has had the "update" treatment that has killed other great series. Handing over Hidden Expedition to Domini felt like one more awful thing about 2020. Changing a beautifully rendered and complex game to a cartoonish and simplistic mess made me angry. And now the incredible MCF has gone the same route. Charles Dalimar is now a cartoon villain, not the guy that once actually gave me the chills. Now you have to use a silly gimmick to advance. The Queen is gone and some arbitrary female british voice is your communication. The game begins so abruptly, I wondered if I had slept through the opening scenes. This is a mish mash of older stories that were a thousand times better. I'm heartbroken. I don't know if it's lack of eastern european developers, lack of talent or lack of caring. But the dominant feature here is lack of. Sorry my participle is dangling. But so is my respect for your games. Just...just so let down. To other gamers out there, especially new ones, go try the older MCF games, recommendation follows. You'll see what I mean.
I am stunned at the positive reviews on this one. Nobody else got nauseous at the terrible animation and blurring of the screen? Halloween is now purple and blue? Pixels no longer desirable? All items for inventory must jump out at you because, apparently even though you're playing their game, you might MISS IT? I give this 20 Bahs and 14 Humbugs. There's curmudgeonly for you. Domini is consistently the worst. So they've got that going for them.
Not the worst game out of Big Fish this year, by far-a year 'domini-ted' with purple and blue cookie cutter games. The art is beautiful, if you like Halloweenie decor, but I can't help comparing this to Halloween Stories: Invitation CE, which was an amazing, creepy, beautiful game. I'm gonna go replay that. This game is using many of the same ol' same ol' tasks, like finding weird shapes to open locks, and of course you have to oil stuff. Not great but not terrible. The overall feel of this game is that is wasn't quite finished. It has many spots that feel a bit...raw, unhemmed, slapped together. So I'll recommend this game but with reservations noted.
Domini has given us another of their use a pin to open a lock, find a wrench to turn the fire hydrant on, wave away the mist with a hat, collect the coupons blah blah blah and do so while items jump out at you like jump scares are even called for. Oh, and all while shielding your eyes from the garish colored world that is a Domini game. Absolutely nothing here I haven't seen 100 times before. I can't even recommend trying this one. Just awful.
