Now THIS is what I've been looking for! A LONG Halloween based game with excellent graphics and an interesting storyline. I will admit that there were probably a few too many puzzles and not enough HOPS for my personal taste, but all were very well done. Some were easy, some were hard, a nice combo of puzzles. Someone else mentioned that the story took a few cues from popular books and movies, but for the most part it was original. Harvey was super creepy, but I don't like clowns anyway. Sort of felt bad for him at the end of the main story, but he got what he deserved. The bonus story was long as well. Basically, I felt like I got my money's worth buying the CE. Sound quality, graphics and voice overs were excellent. Give the demo a try and see what you think!
Last year I purchased "Halloween Stories: Invitation" after getting hooked from the trial version. I was very disappointment with that game because it was one of the shortest games I had ever played and the spook factor petered off right after the trial time was over. So I was very leery about this game, but I wanted to give it a chance. I played the trial version and noticed it was much better quality than the first game. Still, I was leery. I decided to go ahead and purchase it. I'm glad I did! The spook factor was good, yet comical. Nothing you will have nightmares over. The story wasn't original, but I really liked the lead character and her reactions to the craziness around her. The puzzles were challenging, but very do-able. The HOPs were fairly easy. The morphs were hard to find and some were VERY small. I missed two of the statues (GRRR!) and there wasn't a way at the end of the game to go back and retrieve them. The main story was short, but with the addition of the bonus story, I wasn't too disappointed. There was a glitch at the end of the bonus story that caused the game to quit, but the story was saved when I reopened it. Overall, it the best Halloween based story so far this year. Maybe next year the developers will give us something longer?

I've played all the Hiddenverse games and I'm happy to say that they are back on track after the dismal last one with the fairy tale theme. Nice changes to the way the mini games are played. The one with the matching images on the cards is hard! The "you vs. the robot" one is good too. I don't mind the "rebuild the airship", but I just wish you didn't have to click so many times. Couldn't they just let you build a table with 10 stars rather than having to click 5 stars, let the graphic build half of it and make you click 5 more stars and again let the graphic build the rest of the table? A time waster. With that said, overall, it's a great game. If you liked the first two, you will like this one even more. Try the demo and see what you think.

I've played the other Bonfire games and was pretty sure I would like this one too, but I opted to play the demo just encase. I was not disappointed. It starts out slow, but as the story builds it gets more interesting. The puzzles were good and the HOPs were better than most games I've played lately. The hidden hearts were very well hidden, but the character statues were easier. The end of the main game had a twist that I wasn't expecting, which was a nice change of pace. Usually these sort of games are formulistic and can become dull if you play enough of them. The extra chapter is short, but was a nice addition to the continuation of the story. The only thing that bugged me was if I needed the guide to help with a puzzle, I had to back out of the puzzle to view the guide. Other that that, I really enjoyed this game.

I played most of the demo and decided to purchase with a free game token. I had 22 minutes left on the demo. Unfortunately, I should have just played the demo all the way through because that was approximately how long it took to get to the end of the game! Sigh... I really liked where this one was going too. The end made no sense! So many questions remained in the storyline. So disappointing. On the bright side, there were no collectibles or morphs, so I could just concentrate on the game itself. I didn't even mind the fake British accents or the old-school graphics. It was all about the story with this one and they blew it at the end! So disappointed! I suggest that you play the demo ALL THE WAY THROUGH. Very short game. I hate short games!

I always like to give new series a try. I usually play the demo first, but I didn't this time for some ungodly reason. Okay... the visuals are lovely, the (VERY FREQUENT) voice-overs were well done (but no moving mouths) and goals were easy to understand. Way too short (including the bonus chapter), too much hand-holding, super easy HOPs, puzzles were also very easy and unimaginative. Overall, the story was dull. The collectible coins are huge and easy to see, but if you miss one, you can't go back after the games end (I missed the last one in the regular game because it ended before I could click on it!). PLEASE do not waste money on the CE! It's not worth the extra money. Wait for the regular version if you want to play a very easy, short game with no gore or spookiness. I would recommend this for a beginner.

I'm really getting sick and tired of these short games! I love this series, but this one really left me ticked off. I buy CEs because I want to enjoy a long, continual storyline. Even with the bonus chapter, this one was barely worth a standard edition freebie! Okay... the good... I know some people don't like helpers (I happen to love Elf), so at least the devs made it so that you could choose whether you wanted to use one or not. That's certainly different. To be honest, that's really the only good thing I can think of. The storyline wasn't very engaging, the movement of the characters was choppy, the voice overs were so-so, the puzzles were fairly easy. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the HOPs were actually pretty good, but there just weren't that many of them for my taste. This series is going the way of some of the other (formally) great series that have been put out lately. I'd rather the devs took longer to come out with good, challenging games rather than just churning them out as fast as possible.

Okay, so this isn't the most exciting game that has ever come out, but it grows on you. There is a method to the madness and there is some strategy involved. It took me about 12 minutes to get through the first level and I had to quit after that. This is the kind of game that you can play to waste time. That's not an insult. Sometimes you just need something that you don't have to strain your brain over. The best part is there are no time limits. I did find myself wanting to scroll downward a lot (which you can't do), but it was more instinct than necessity. The "eye" button shows you what areas need to be cleared, but other than that, you're on your own. My only negative is that the music got old REAL fast. No storyline... just dig until you get to the bottom to collect your treasure chest. Very basic and rather charmingly old school. Reminds me of when video games first became popular. If that's what you're into and need a break from anything that involves puzzles or detective work, this is a good game for you. It's worth a token if it is. Try to the demo first.

I have to admit that I played all the Dark Parables series. Some have been better than others, but I think this one ranks up there as being my second favorite (right behind "The Last Cinderella). The story is excellent! Fables, legends and puppets all wrapped into one wonderful maze of anime-quality design and storytelling. The HOPS were fairly challenging, as were the puzzles (although there is a fair bit of same puzzle/different look involved). The morphs were well placed, but not impossible to see. As usual, I was not able to find all of the parable pieces, but I'll look harder the second time around. The CE version is worth getting because of the second story. Best of all, this game is not a short one... I have short games! Take your time and enjoy all the beautiful!

I'm on the fence with this one. There are parts I liked and parts that need fixing. The storyline had potential, but we've seen this one many times in the past. Lots of inconsistencies, like switching demon, mage and magician in talking about the main villain. Which is it?! When I got to the last chapter of the main game, the voice overs cut out. The music was still playing, but no voices. That was a bummer as I liked the voices. Oh, and the dialog took forever! And there is no way of speeding it up, although you can skip it. On the bright side, I liked the graphics, loved the design of the harpies and it was interesting to have three helpers instead of just one. Folks who don't like helpers better avoid this one! The puzzles were very simple. The HOPs were okay with a few head scratchers. Not a lot of either throughout the entire game. It's more of a "find the item and use it" sort of game. Some of the instructions to the puzzles weren't very clear, but you can figure them out. I don't hate this game. Actually I enjoyed it because it was a mellow game for a change (although way too short). But I don't think it's worth a CE price. Wait for the SE version. Wish I had waited.
