I stumbled across this title whilst looking for what my next creepy game purchase might be. As usual, I watched the preview and read the bad reviews, and I was immediately intrigued with just how much people seemed to hate this game. Adult warning labels always get my attention as well, so I downloaded the trial to see what all the fuss was about. Boy, they weren't wrong either! "Repetitive" and "boring" are the right adjectives to describe this game. There is no originality to the puzzles and far too much reading to move the story along. I want to see action in my games with people talking to each other to learn the plot, not having to read everything. And just the downbeat story about the little girl made my stomach turn. I was actually feeling sick to my stomach during the entire trial and I was glad when it was finally over. I wanted to finish the demo so I could write a fair review of it. I like to play games for fun, and I can't see how anyone would play this game when they're in the mood for fun and find it enjoyable. I found it depressing. The next installment was better but be sure to demo that one as well. Neither one is on my "to buy" list.
I don't recommend this game.

This is definitely not a game for the serious or advanced player as it was much too easy even for the likes of me, but I liked it nonetheless because sometimes I prefer not to think too much and still enjoy the logic that's required to progress through the game. The story was simplistic and boring to me and I didn't pay attention to it, but luckily you don't need to in order to move forward so that was a good thing. Like some others have already said, this is a great game if you have only a few minutes to play or want to play something easy between bigger, more involved games that require greater concentration or memory. This was a fun one to play because I loved the beautiful scenes and having to search among the three rooms to find all the pieces to the objects that you need to find. I actually prefer the fragmented object games to the usual HO word lists that have become so prevalent so I'm always on the lookout for these types of searching games now. Mirror Mysteries was the first of this kind that I played and I am hooked on these now so I'll continue to search these out.
Yes, some of the pieces are tiny and well-hidden but the hint system was helpful and I used it often for these. Puzzles were easy for the most part and can be skipped. I really enjoyed the soothing, Persian music as it's different but it may not be for everyone and can be turned off. I would have liked to have seen brand new rooms in each realm because you end up revisiting some of them so I didn't like that, but maybe it's because you're in a labyrinth and it's supposed to reflect that you may end up in one of the rooms again? I don't know but THAT sure confused me but it didn't take away from any of my enjoyment. Placing the pedestal artifacts and gems in the lamp wall were an added bonus and I'd thought I'd hit a glitch at the end when I couldn't move my gems around, but the forums were helpful in finding out what I needed to do.
The following is NOT a spoiler but it isn't addressed in the walkthrough if you've already placed all of your gems on the wall, and is helpful for rearranging them if you have them in the wrong place. Just right click on the gem you want to change out...it will then move down into your inventory. You can then move it to another window to see if it belongs there. I was all set to complain to customer service about how I couldn't change out my gems but found the "right click" solution in the forums so I was happy.
I recommend this game!

Being as I love anything concerning creepy carnivals or circuses, this was a definite must-see for me. Although it's obviously aimed towards the younger crowd or those who just prefer a lighter feel to their spooky games instead of the usual dread, this was just a good time all around even though it's based only on the one hour trial. I've played a lot of HO games and didn't find the HO scenes here to be junkpiles at all. In fact, you could see quite clearly the background, and the objects were just scattered about in a challenging but not cluttered way. I liked looking for the hidden item with the magnifying glass as it was a different approach from the usual one of finding the one item written in a different color from the rest of the list. I enjoyed the bright colors throughout, the cute animations and especially the background sounds of the people, music and monsters that were there. It reminded me of the carnival sounds in Madame Fate where you hear the barker's shouts and the noise of the crowd, and in this game you hear similar sounds that put you right there in the middle of it all. Absolutely delightful!
I ignored the timer as I relished just taking in all the details of each scene and looking for that impish vampire that I frequently forgot about. :) Including real people in the HO scenes was another positive and it was fun seeing them dressed in their Halloween costumes. The puzzles were the usual standard fare that we've all seen before...jigsaws, concentration, gear switching, find the differences, but they were mixed up in such a creative way that you never got bored and could always skip if you wanted to. Both the hint button and skip line filled quickly so you move along at a fast pace. I don't know how far along I got in the game, but I loved it enough to put it on my "to buy" list and will wait for the next sale. It's definitely not challenging enough for the serious gamer, but for the casual gamer like myself who likes to take the time to savor all the sights and sounds that this game provides, I think you'll enjoy it very much. As always, demo it first. I found it to be more than a little delightful.
I recommend this game!

After fiddling with my computer's settings, I was finally able to maneuver around a little better with my cursor although it still seemed to drag. It was cool to be able to look directly up at the sky but I can see how others would get sick with the constant movements and even with my slow cursor, I could only play for a few minutes at a time. I'm a fan of the old style adventure games where you find items as you come across them and not in a hidden object scene with word lists so Scratches doesn't disappoint there, but soon you acquire quite a lot of items and you won't know where to use them without trying each one from your inventory. This becomes tedious very quickly and can slow down gameplay, but there are fans who savor this kind of adventure and who won't mind that it will take a very long time to finish. The rooms inside the house are dark and drab and are not environments that I would touch if I were actually standing there so the whole mood for me was very downbeat while playing. I guess the developers wanted to create an atmosphere of doom and gloom with Scratches as it is a stark departure from the current crop of games with their vivid color contrasts. Between the jerky motion of the cursor combined with the varying shades of black and brown that permeate this game, my imagination wasn't stimulated enough for me to want to continue playing Scratches so I didn't enjoy it. I prefer the newer crop of adventure games but from the high ratings that some players have already given Scratches, it's obvious that there's still a fan base for this old school style of games. And that's a good thing but speaking strictly for myself, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend it.
I don't recommend this game.

I never intended to buy this game after viewing the preview and reading the reviews, but the title intrigued me enough to want to play the demo. My first recommendation to NOT buy is because you'll lose your progress if you switch scenes during an HO search. Why should you be punished for leaving a scene to work on another one? I've never played a game yet where you couldn't switch between HO scenes while finding the items that are left on your list. Why should you have to start over again with all new items? When I'd rather not use a hint, I like to investigate other scenes and come back with "fresh eyes" where I'm likely to find the item the next time. This is absurd gameplaying and does nothing to make it challenging or to improve the already stagnant storyline. The cartoonish graphics didn't bother me as much as the poor grammar and spelling mistakes that randomly occurred during the demo hour, so this turned me off for good. I struggled through the free trial so I could write a fair review but I was glad when it was over.
I don't recommend this game.

I demoed this game when it was offered on one of those weekly specials and I never even finished the free trial. Judging by all the glowing reviews, I was really prepared to go on a joy ride with this one but it just fell flat. I couldn't stand the buzzing kind of mumbling that passed for speech, and the oddly rendered features of the characters made me wince to look at them. I wouldn't have minded having to take notes as to where to go and what to do, as that's what an adventure game is supposed to be, but I just couldn't stomach the characters I met during the trial and I had to delete it. I was really disappointed because I like UFO themes and I wanted to know what the story was, but I guess it's not to be. If you want to play a game with a fool in it, play "The Fool" instead. You don't need a whole city full.
I don't recommend this game.

I tried many times to play this game but I can't get past the train station. The intro plays flawlessly and the game requirements are well within my computer's capabilities so I'm at a loss as to why it won't play. Once the game loads and I hit the play button, the cursor floats and drags slowly and there's a padlock hiding the hint button?!? Nothing happens when I click on things. Everything is in slow motion and the cursor never changes to something that will alert me to look at or pick up something. And like I said, the hint button is not available because it's "locked". What am I supposed to do with that??? Even the lightning is s-l-o-w when it cracks. I've uninstalled and reinstalled this game several times with the same results and even tried reinstalling and playing it again without success after having my computer reformatted. The game sounds so interesting too but I frankly don't care anymore because I've found other games to play that actually work on my computer. Buyer beware but as always....demo it first!
I don't recommend this game.

I really wanted to like this game. As one who learned to play adventure games by typing in every command and drawing maps myself to visualize what the locations must look like, I thought I'd be good at playing Green Moon. How wrong I was! Although this game is one step up from the text adventure games I'm familiar with, nothing I tried seemed to work or make much sense with what I had in inventory. Swapping out one item for another and trying to use it in different locations didn't seem to work either. The tutorial was useless and the walkthrough didn't show the items I already had in my inventory and with only a few minutes remaining in the trial version, I'm deleting this from my computer because, honestly, I was bored from the opening sequence and really don't care enough to try any harder with it. None of the game is attractive enough for my taste so that's a turnoff, and the multitude of items in each location make it impossible to know what to take and what to leave. I know that's supposed to be the challenge of this game, but Green Moon is just too complicated for me to care enough about finishing the six remaining minutes I have left. I'm a visual person and I guess I've been spoiled by the beautiful scenes that are prevalent in games today and are what I prefer to see.
What initially attracted me to Green Moon was its title and what the purpose was of wanting to make the moon green. I guess I'll never know the answer to that one unless I dig around the forums and elsewhere to find out. And I was interested in visiting the different locations and especially the moon itself, but I only got as far as the yard and the basement holding a lit match with nothing to use it on. I can't recommend Green Moon as I consider myself an experienced gamer who had higher expectations for it, but I know that others will find the challenge in it because it already has so many good reviews. So the challenge and, I suppose, the fun is there for those who like this kind of game and want to spend the great amount of time it requires to play it. I just don't have the desire or the intuition to figure it out
I don't recommend this game.

I enjoy match-3 and I love beautiful, sparkly things so this game has the best of both worlds! I'm used to seeing just the normal match-3 game mode, so having the choice of four modes really cranks the match-3 genre up a few notches with this title. The gemstones are gorgeously rendered and I really like the planetary backdrops and futuristic music although I could do without the robotic voiceovers. The lightning bolt effect is very creative and seems to fit in with the outdoor theme reflected in the scenic backdrops. I also like the clicking sounds of the gems as they fall away. Only one thing makes no sense to me. Like one reviewer has already stated, it isn't always clear why some games end so abruptly while I'm still clicking away on gems. Huge sections fall away and I know there aren't 3 or more in a row to end it, but the voice tells me how "incredible" I am and the game is over. I know I'm not that good at it since I don't like being timed but I do get a rush trying!
I recommend this game!

I'm partial to games involving the creepy carnival and sinister circus, so this one was a must-have for me. And it's a keeper! If you're like me and loved Weird Park: Broken Tune, then you'll see the similarities with this one. It's not a copycat, but the colors are so bright and vivid and, especially in the "deranged" world, you'll notice the similar way in which things float in the air the way they did in WP. I loved everything about this game...the sights and sounds, all the characters, and most importantly, the excellent storyline with its surprising twists and turns. From reading others' reviews, it sounded like it would be a short game but it took me several wonderful funfilled hours to finish it. It's obvious to me that this was to be a collector's edition, as it unlocks a bonus chapter to continue what's already an excellent regular story that has its own satisfying conclusion before the bonus chapter even begins. The extra story has you dealing with the characters that are left after the main story concerning the mother and daughter.
When playing the regular game, it always looked like I was almost at the end but it just kept going on and on. I was in heaven. Then the bonus chapter went on and on. I have to say that I've never played collector's editions before, so I have no idea how long bonus chapters normally are. Those who do know, please post your thoughts because the length really impressed me and I'd like to hear your opinions on this.
The hidden object scenes were easy, with interaction between some of the items, which is always fun. And you're given the option to switch between finding the objects yourself or playing Monaco! Monaco is similar to Match-3 but you click on only two tiles which will eliminate an item from the object list. I just learned how to play it today so it was an added treat! And the puzzles/minigames were on the easy, logical side too (the seesaw and jukebox being my favorites). I did almost all of them but some I skipped because I grew impatient and just wanted to get on with the story. The skip button fills quickly and the hint button is helpful but I rarely needed it. Although the map is not transportive, it's helpful in showing you where you are and what areas still need tasks to be accomplished. It's an adventure game in the best sense of the word. You'll walk around a lot but the areas you're in are not vast, and you'll find yourself being able to remember where to go and what you'll find there. The soundtrack is unobtrusive, with calliope music blended with the sound of distant thunder, which provides the feeling of a normal, safe environment against the backdrop of something sinister on the horizon. Which is the perfect atmosphere for the kind of story this is!
A couple fun things to look out for...watch the snake charmer after you're done with him. His eyes stay glowing, for whatever reason, and he looks like he's just consumed something that...well...shouldn't be consumed at an outdoor family facility. Also, the voice of the skeleton in the mirror, at first hearing, reminded me of Momma from Throw Momma From the Train. Let's see if anyone else thinks the same thing!
You're also given a monkey to retrieve items for you that are out of reach. Sometimes I'd forgotten that he's there and I've had to backtrack to get items that he could have easily gotten for me had I remembered his function, but you get to return the favor later when he needs you!
There are also a lot of achievements to be earned in this game, so there's a lot to love about it. I love it and hope you do too. It'll be a fun ride nonetheless!
I recommend this game!
