I just finished playing this one over the weekend and I am very impressed! Always a sucker for the prettiness of a game, this one delivers in spades. Each scene is uniquely beautiful and the puzzles are challenging with an interesting storyline interwoven through it all. The look of the villain leaves much to be desired but I did immensely enjoy having to confront him at the end.
I recommend this game!

I moved away from buying straight hidden object games long ago for the adventure kind so this one has been with me for several years now but it still delivers! Along with the regular game, you also get unlimited seek and find and a match-3 game that unlocks when you find the 25 padlocks in the regular game. So it's like getting a collector's edition for the price of a standard one! There really is no storyline other than you're stranded and need to find a way to escape. You acquire pieces of a boat that you'll assemble later after finding all the hidden objects in a scene and doing a puzzle after that. There's not much to it but the hidden object scenes are locations in and around the mansion and they look quite nice and are not junkpiles. I honestly play more with the unlimited seek and find and match-3 games than I do the regular game because I find those much more fun, so there's always those things to fall back on if the regular game doesn't suit you.
I recommend this game!

I bought this little gem of a game because it looked different from the usual dark and sinister games that I normally gravitate to. Even though the puzzles and minigames were very easy, sometimes I like to do easy games just for the relaxation they offer when I don't want to think too much. This is one of those games and it was surprisingly fun. I especially enjoyed the animations like the train and the dancing gnomes. And the game where you have to put the missing pieces on the western painting and then enter the saloon for another game was very unique. It was a fun ride all around and the bonus of the auction was an added touch. The graphics look a little dated but that's no reason why you can't enjoy this game. Try it out and see how she rides. I think you'll like it.
I recommend this game!

This was one of the first hidden object games I've ever played. I liked the sappiness of it but it was surprisingly fun too. It's sort of like getting two games in one in that you get two bride stories with mostly different settings except for the subway and, I believe, one other. You can collect bluebirds for extra hints and there's a cool minigame where you can assemble the love stories of each bride by choosing different scenarios on how they met their grooms. Additional minigames concern the scatterbrained brides leaving their to do lists in innocuous places and puzzles concerning table settings and assembling pipes for a chocolate machine. All of the above mentioned games can be skipped easily but the ones concerning the lists are actually fun to do. A trick which I've never seen before is one where a certain item on your hidden object list traps you in various rooms and you have to perform a short series of tasks to get you out.
Yes, you get to visit the same locations several times but you're looking for different items, and one quirk is where things go horribly wrong and you have to investigate the once lovely location which is now in disarray and you have to find hidden objects there as well! So there's more to this game than just finding hidden objects. You actually have to think things through so that adds to the challenge. The game is also timed so when I got to the point where I knew where all the objects were in every scene, I skipped all the puzzles and minigames to see how quickly I could finish. I came in at just under two hours. If you play all the minigames and figure out the table setting/chocolate pipe puzzles (these puzzles took me too long and I found them annoying so I always skipped them) then the gameplay can be quite long so you'll have to decide if it's right for you. Do the trial and see how it feels.
I forgot two other minigames. Sometimes a cell phone will ring and you will have to find the phone in the scene you're currently in. I think you get minutes added to your countdown time. Also, you're told in another game to look for a particular object in the next location, like a ring box, and you'll get extra minutes added there too. So there's actually quite a lot going on here for your money. You even get to choose your wedding dress, bouquet and cake too! What else can a girl want?
I recommend this game!

Since I realized that how a game looks overrides how good of a story it has, let me just say that I love this game! The story starts out promising but then just sort of falls flat and never really picks up until the end. Which, by that time, is too late for those who demand great storylines from their games. But I'm just a casual player who plays for recreation and relaxation and want to enjoy looking at every scene I come across. With that said, this is just a gorgeously rendered game done in mostly pastel shades. I was sold from just looking at the preview and the thumbnail of the sleeping tree, but being a wise consumer, I always play the one hour trial and read the reviews prior to buying. And I wasn't disappointed.
There's so much whimsical attention given to this game with the above said tree and the house with the moving legs, for example. And the hidden object scenes are a combination of the traditional scattered kind, a certain number of same item, and fragmented objects to be assembled to make larger objects. The puzzles are varied and challenging and each colorful scene is just a joy for me to sit and stare at. I almost feel like I am looking at pictures from an art gallery. The colors are muted and understated which make the game stand out from others and it was such a satisfying experience to play.
I recommend this game!

I'd forgotten how good a game this was since I've played so many others since the last time. It wasn't until I read the reviews here that reminded me how much I enjoyed it so I went back and saw what I originally loved about it. The game follows the book and movie faithfully and there's so much to do here besides just looking for hidden objects that makes the game fun. Looking for the book in each scene as well as the hidden letters, which aren't so hidden, but are needed to spell out the secret word that's part of the story, makes the gameplay interesting as well as the typing game and driving through city streets to catch objects as they pass through the viewing area. Each of these is a separate minigame within the larger game of the hidden object scenes which make up the story, and all of these make for enjoyable gameplay. Although the graphics are hand drawn, they are clear and appropriate for the time period which adds to the challenge. And when you've earned enough money from the minigames, you can purchase items to furnish your library which is an additional thing to like about this game. During the years when I was busy playing only adventure games, I'd abandoned the Great Gatsby and regretted buying it because it was "just another hidden object game" that I'd outgrown. I'm glad I read these reviews because you stirred my interest in it again and the game has so much more going for it than just the hidden object scenes. It's so different from other kinds of games and has become one of my favorites. I'm just surprised the developer hasn't created more games from classic literature since this one is from the Classic Adventures collection. Is the Great Gatsby the first in this series and was there supposed to be more forthcoming? This is a wonderful way to introduce classic books to the gaming environment and I hate to think that this golden opportunity didn't pan out for the devs. Yes, the book may be boring and probably not the best choice for a first game but there's so many books out there so why can't the collection be continued?
I love period pieces so I enjoyed seeing how the costumes and everything else looked in the movie and how exact they were replicated in this game. Very well done.
I recommend this game!

I hate giving this a lower rating than the previous installments since I really love this series as a whole but I can't help it. In my opinion, it's just not as good overall. Yes, the story proceeds in a natural flow but I was really hoping that it would wrap up only to learn that it's still not over! Three parts to a story seem to be the logical way to go and anything more than that just seems like the devs are milking it for all they've got. I don't know if I'm that interested in buying the conclusion as I wasn't that impressed with this installment.
I expected the puzzles to get harder and that's a good thing because they were challenging enough and I liked them. Maybe it's because I was so enchanted with the whole woodland experience in Moonfell Wood with its bluish colors and animated outdoor scenes that I became disenchanted with the scenes depicting frozen train stations and the many goblins lurking about. I don't know for sure but this game just felt different to me. I still liked it enough to buy it after playing the trial but even then it felt different and I waited until a half off sale to buy.
The pocket dragon is back but to a much lesser degree so that was disappointing but we do get to meet Ran the owl. He's painted in subtle shades of purple and it's cute when he goes to sleep after giving a hint. It shows him breathing with his head nodding off. Sadly, it's not enough to get me fired up about this installment and I'll be glad to see this series end with the next game. I'll still recommend the Goblin Kingdom because the series is great overall and offers the kind of gameplay that many people are looking for and this game offers it too.
I recommend this game!

I played this game first in the series so I was a little spoiled when I went back and played the Dreamless Castle. I could easily see how the series progressed both in the beauty of the artwork and the complexity of the puzzles that you have to do. The clarity of the artwork especially, still very beautiful, but even more defined than in its predecessor. I liked this game more because you're no longer confined to the castle grounds but exposed to the beautiful outdoors which provides so many more natural settings. Each scene is like a colorful painting out of a child's storybook with colors so vivid that I must tip my hat to the artisans who obviously take great pride, and deservedly so, in their work. It's like they harkened back to their childhoods as well with each stroke of the pen so lovingly painting each picture. The technique of using so many different shades of blue in one picture works because it's repeated in subsequent scenes and are absolutely breathtaking. The adventuring aspect was great fun too and kept me anxiously guessing as to where I would be lead to next. The only illogical part of this fantasy was where I was to carry a hot pot of tea up a ladder inside of a circular shaft to the roof ?!? I know we need to suspend disbelief with fantasy games but this seemed a little too extraordinary even for make believe. However, I love everything else about this game so much that it prevents me from giving it nothing less than the 5 star treatment. I love everything from the storyline with its mildly challenging puzzles to the colorful settings and fun animations.
The pocket dragon is back too. We saw it make its debut at the end of the first game when it was born and I'm happy to say it plays a big part in this game. I think you'll be delighted when you first come across it during your adventures in the woods. I want my own pocket dragon!
I recommend this game!

As a casual gamer and visual person, I look for games that are pleasing to the eye and move me along at a regular pace. This is one of those. Although I played Moonfell Wood first and like that one better, it would be unfair for me not to rate this one as equally good since it is the first in the series and not expected to look as "good" as later installments. What I love about this game is what others have already said...the soothing music, engaging story, colorful characters, fun animations and just the overall feel of the whole thing. I haven't played the final game in this series yet but have loved each game so far. The puzzles are easy and the replayability is there if for no other reason than to zone out a bit and relax on a lazy afternoon.
I recommend this game!

I so looked forward to this sequel because I prefer adventure games to those that are solely hidden object like its predecessor, but I was a little disappointed in this one. Not a lot but just enough to keep me from giving it five stars. I found too many of the minigames to be so difficult that I had to skip them and those that couldn't be skipped, I had to resort to the forums or elsewhere to find what I needed to progress. I know I'm smarter than this and would have been able to spend the time working them out but it was almost impossible. Adequate help is not provided in both the hint system (nondescript and takes too long to refill) and nonexistant with the puzzles. I like a challenge just as much as the rest of you but as a casual gamer, I just want to be able to move along at a pace where I would be as if I were really in that situation. The time spent having to quit the game to look elsewhere for guidance took away a lot of the fun for me. Yes, the game looks beautiful and the story is engaging but it left me feeling cold when I was done with it. And I didn't get that satisfied feeling like I do when playing an all-around great game. It just wasn't fun enough for me.
I had hoped we'd get to explore the house by wandering around the hallways and was disappointed in that too. I guess the devs didn't do that because we already saw the rooms in the prequal but if you didn't play Ravenhearst, you wouldn't know what they looked like. Maybe it's the devs' brilliance in thinking you'd buy the prequal too for just that reason. A better alternative for the series might have been to make Ravenhearst an adventure game where you'd get to do the wandering instead of the point and click method to access the rooms. In RTR, I was excited to be able to enter the living room but disappointed that the kitchen was the only other room we'd get to walk directly into. It's been awhile since I played this game because I've found others that I like better but I'll give this one another try someday. Just not anytime soon. I still recommend it though because it offers the challenge that others are looking for and what I may want sometime too. But I won't be buying the next installment as the preview turned me off and the reviews seem to indicate that the devs were going for shock value instead of quality so I'm passing on it.
I recommend this game!
