I didn't find this game to be nearly as hilarious as some others have, but the guards and especially the pumpkin in the cemetery warranted a few giggles from me. It was an easy game with the puzzles and minigames being of the standard fare you normally come across. The games I most enjoyed were the astronomy ones, as I've never come across this type in any game I've played thus far. The scenes in the beginning seemed too stark and could have used more decorative items in them, but they got better as the story progressed. The dragon is the best thing about this game, and it's cute when it makes it wuffling sound when it looks at what it thinks is its baby! I kinda feel sorry for it at the end. Beginners are likely to benefit most from this game as it's easy, but more experienced gamers can play this to pass the time on a lazy afternoon. This game is short so don't spend a lot on it. Use a game coupon or wait for one of those half off deals. I was lucky enough to pick it up for $2.99 on one of those weekly sales and I'm glad because I wouldn't have wanted to pay more for it. As always, try before you buy so you won't be too disappointed.

I always seem to gravitate to the darker games first, so this was one I had to check out. Although the story is simplistic, it makes up for it with its moody scenarios and ghostly apparitions. I especially enjoyed the skeletons who interact with you, becoming very animated while telling you their stories. Puzzles and minigames were mostly on the easier side and the many locations had their own version of spookiness to them. There is no map or journal so the challenge is for you to remember where you are and what you need to do. It's easy enough to navigate and figure out what to do, but the walkthrough is available if you get truly stumped. I knocked down a star for it being too short as the story could have been fleshed out more (no pun intended) for longer gameplay. Expert gamers will most likely find this one far too easy for their level of challenge, but it gives a good, gentle ride for passing the afternoon.
I hate to write a bad review as this is the first review where I don't give a recommendation, but there are enough good reviews written about this game so I don't feel that bad. It was just a great disappointment to me because of how it is described on its face page of exploring the emotion of fear. I was expecting a great psychological thriller but there was nothing scary about this game at all and I really feel let down. I take my time before deciding to purchase a game. I always read the description before watching the preview. Then if I like the preview I'll then read the experts' opinions and finally, I play the trial version. Only after getting positive vibes from all four of these factors do I feel confident that I'll love the game. This is the first game where I felt I was completely thrown under the bus because everything I perceived before buying it was so good.
Yes, the artwork is nice and the story seemed promising, but the ending was confusing and left me wanting more. And I expected more from the fog, thinking that we'd find more secret locations there but it was really just for show. And being an adventure game, I expect a lot of back and forth as that's what an adventure game is supposed to be, but the number of scenes you had to backtrack to in order to use an item you found was ridiculously far away and just became annoying.
Thankfully, the hint system worked well in leading you directly to where you needed to go, but I didn't like having to rely on it so much just because things were so far from each other. Either the devs should have provided an interactive map to transport you to the faraway places or kept the scenes within two or three backsteps at the most. And for goodness sakes, make the game actually scary when you write it as diving into the emotion of fear. I guess my expectations were too high because I liked the demo well enough and thought the game would get better but it didn't for me. I'll probably play it again someday to get my money's worth since I'll know what to expect. Maybe with my lowered expectations, I'll enjoy it more the second time around. I'm just glad I didn't pay full price for it and will not be buying any of the others from this series.
I really wanted to like this game as I'm a fan of the dark, creepy carnival themes but this one just left me cold. I'd only heard of this game after seeing it raved about in another game's review so I had to check it out. I should have stopped after playing the demo because it gave me all I needed to know as to whether I'd like it or not. Why I went ahead and bought it is anyone's guess.
I suppose it's because the sinister circus theme differs from the usual haunted mansion/asylum locations we've come to expect from games that are described as being spooky. And it intrigued me enough to buy Dreamland but I'm glad I waited for a half off sale. Each scene just looks kinda drab in color. I was spoiled by the bright, vivid colors in Weird Park_Broken Tune and I guess I expected the same level of color variations in Dreamland but I didn't get them. The colors are just sort of dull and the hidden object scenes are a nightmare. The objects are so well hidden that they're either too small or completely blended into the backgrounds, causing me to use the hint button far too much for my liking. As an experienced gamer, I felt I was pushed right back into the rank of beginner with this one with not knowing quite what to do or where to find needed items. And I didn't like it. Thankfully, the helpful map came in handy and transported me easily once I knew where I needed to place found items. But the game suffers from lack of a substantial storyline and other than for the villain who pops up randomly, there's no one else around and the lonely feeling is pervasive and something that never bothered me before in other games. I don't know what it is with this game that unnerves me so much as I like a challenge but this one just seemed a little too hard and not fun overall.
Not all of it is bad though. I found the shooting gallery to be great fun and if nothing else, provides enjoyable music to listen to between the times you wander around the park aimlessly. The puppet theatre was very cute with its associated minigame too and the refrigerator glutton, although somewhat annoying, had his own appeal. I had average luck with the puzzles, being able to do some while skipping others that made absolutely no sense to me, but it was towards the end that made me insane. After what you think is the end, more hidden object scenes pop up ad nauseum and I was so done by this time that I just wanted the game to be over. I struggled through it but was having no fun doing it. It's certainly not a game for beginners and there's the added perks of the various achievements that can be earned, so it's not a total loss. Just be prepared to work for them as they can be difficult to do. Finding the starfish and marbles are probably the biggest challenge as they are frequently of different colors and in a different orientation from what you're used to seeing, but the forums are helpful in providing where to find these items.
All in all, not a truly bad game but it's one that I won't be replaying anytime soon. I'll still recommend it, though, because it provides the kind of challenge that others may be seeking. I'm just not ready to feel that bad again.
I recommend this game!

I love everything about this game and was immediately sold early into the trial period. Interesting storyline, cute animations, interactive characters, gorgeous artwork and that distinctive oriental music makes it the perfect game for me. The fragmented objects combined with traditional hidden object scenes combined with innovative puzzles and minigames complete what I consider to be one of the most entertaining games I've ever played. I usually prefer the dark, creepy adventure games but this has everything I look for in a great game except that it's bright and beautiful. Very well done, devs!
The immersive storyline and colorful settings made for a very fun time but I wish there were more locations to explore. The deserted town looked interesting but alas, very little exploring was to be done there. And there were only three people with whom to interact so it made for a somewhat lonely exploration, but it heightened the spook factor because of it. Having the option of a match-3 game to help find the hidden objects was inventive but took a lot longer than just looking for the objects myself, so that seemed a sort of waste. But still, a good option for those who don't mind the longer gameplay if you hate looking for the objects yourself.
This was the first of the fragmented object games that I ever played so it was a new experience for me. I absolutely loved it but agree with others that it could have been longer. The visuals are beautiful and the assembling of objects was challenging but not overly difficult so beginners will have fun with this one too. I especially liked the challenge of placing the assembled objects in other locations and not always in the same place as you found the pieces. For the first time seeing this, I was very impressed so my review may be more highly rated than others who've seen this before in other games. Because of its short length, I'm taking away one star. Buy it at one of those half off or buy one, get one free deals like I did. Make sure this game is the free one or use a coupon if you're a club member. That way, you won't feel too cheated because you finished it too quickly.
This game looked very different from the other games I owned at the time so I purchased immediately after trying it out. The scenes are authentic because they were photographed from an actual renaissance festival, and the music is appropriately medieval as well which adds to the atmosphere. I liked that you don't wander around all alone because you come across interesting characters who interact with you and the hidden object scenes are clear and not the usual junkpiles. Finding the fairies in each scene earns you extra hints so moving around was easy, and the puzzles were challenging without being overly so or too simple. Hardcore experts would most likely find the entire game too easy so this is probably best for beginners or intermediates like myself who just like to have a good time relaxing and taking in the sights and sounds which this game provides in abundance. Look for the comic relief provided by the jester at the egg toss booth! The ending was somewhat abrupt but overall the game provided the fun that I seek in an adventure game.
No matter how many times I play this game, I always have just as much fun as the first time around. I love almost everything about it. The only improvements that I would suggest are having voiceovers for the imprisoned guy and the clown at the end. Both characters are animated with moving lips, yet we have to read what they're saying while they gesture about. We get to hear the sounds of the jester and the grunts of the clown when he makes his sudden appearances during the game, but when he's talking at the end we don't get to hear him? In my opinion, this is a major oversight that would have added some tension to the clown's speech at the conclusion. Another thing I would have liked is a better ending to the story. Without giving too much away, I would have liked to see the three puppets have a more lively ending, if you get my meaning.
As for the game itself, I found it fun and the going to and fro like what you do in an adventure game was not bad at all. That's what an adventure game is supposed to be and the good thing about this one is that the areas are small enough so that you don't lose track of where you are. I found the brilliance in this game was in how you found the needed items and where you used them made you remember how to traverse the park and it was really easy to picture the layout in my mind due to all the travelling around I had to do. Everything made sense and followed a logical sequence. I never had to consult a walkthrough as the hint system did its job and the minigames, although easy in what you had to do with them, was based on logic or manipulation of objects. Some puzzles took longer to complete than others but there was always the handy skip feature when I got too impatient. The one hiccup I found was the game where you play the musical notes in sequence. No matter how many times I tried, the notes would play at random and not how I was playing them so I always have to skip this one. Perusing the forums later, I learned that this was a frequent complaint of others as well. I'm just surprised that no update has been written to fix this quirk.
Other than this one quirky minigame along with the lack of voiceovers and a better ending, I enjoyed every other aspect of this fun game. I particularly liked the carousel with its various hidden pieces out in plain view. The first half of the game is great fun but it gets even better in the second half with its twisted dreamlike scenes. Contrary to the game's description, there's nothing scary about it but then I don't scare easily. I just have a lot of fun with it and I think you will too. As always, demo it first to see if it floats your boat.
I was completely bowled over while playing this game. There is a lot to do while you wander around in each location and there are fun animations throughout that make it more enjoyable. I especially loved the toy shop and the way you had to make the toys interact with each other was very cleverly thought out. Each location shows a child in distress and the one immediately following the toy shop was the saddest for me. Let's just say the tentacles had the upper hand there! Very creepy. This is where my computer lagged a lot and judging from the forums, many others had the same problem. The cursor moved at a glacial pace so maybe our video cards were getting too much of a workout because the tentacles were moving the entire time in this scene. It dragged the game down but once I was done with this location, the game picked up again nicely. I was hoping for a more exciting ending with a confrontation with the villain but the game ends rather predictably and anti-climatically. No matter. What you need to do in each location was creative and fun and all the kids get the happy endings they deserve.
