I really enjoyed playing this game. I played it mostly in the dark and it made it more creepy. It was well made and I would recommend the Collectors Edition over the Standard which is rare for me. I bought this with the sale but I wouldn't have minded paying full price, had I. The Standard edition will have a fitting ending. I assume they will cut off the part that makes it turn into the CE but the story was completely wrapped up in the bonus chapter which gave it great closure and it made more sense to what was really going on. The bonus chapter takes place in the creepy lighthouse area you keep seeing throughout the game but never go to. I was very happy I got to explore it and better yet I was playing in Hardcore mode and the bonus game kept my same settings :) I only needed the strategy guide a few times so the game was the perfect challenge.
My only disappointment is that in a hardcode mode, I expect to see no sparkles and the hidden object scenes were sparkly and lit up which I didn't like. Also the storyline didn't make much sense and I was really confused til I played the bonus chapter. I usually hate when developers do that but this game was sooo good and the bonus chapter wasn't just some bad add on but really added to the greatness of this game. I also liked that you only visited each hidden object scene once and there were enough to satisfy my hidden object addiction but not so many I dreaded seeing one pop up. I look forward to the next one! xx
I recommend this game!

This game has everything a good game should have. Its very long, great graphics and music, live actors, voice overs, beautiful hidden object scenes but the storyline is just so bad that I felt like this game was never going to end and it was sooo boring to me that it took me forever to play it. I wanted to at least finish it but it took me weeks because every time Id play a little, Id start falling asleep. Im not quite sure what was going on as the plot went into some crazy realm. Im all for long games when they are fun but this one dragged on and on and on. Elephant games are one of my favorite developers but this and Black Isle have been really disappointing. The graphics/animation are stellar but the game goes nowhere and becomes routinely boring. Like I kept doing the same things over and over again but with a different tool. Why couldn't I keep the same tool and use it more often? Who gets rid of a swiss army knife? If anything thats the tool Id keep with me at all times.
I don't know if its just me but games about saving the children are starting to get really boring to me. This kid could have stayed gone and Id been okay with it. The letters you read were also very confusing. All in all Im just so glad this game is over so I don't have to continue playing it. Yawn.
I don't recommend this game.

I like murder mystery games so I was disappointed by this offering. The game had no voiceovers but thats ok in a standard edition game. It had nice music that made sense in the overall theme of the game but there was only one game mode and it had sparkles but even with a challenge mode, Im not sure this game would have been any better. The hidden object scenes were terrible. A lot of the items were dark on dark making it impossible to see and some other items were in the very corner of the screen underneath the diary! how in the world would you find that without a hint? The good news is the hint button recharges pretty fast but the fact there are sooo many hidden object scenes and the objects are just so hard to see made this game very tedious and boring. The few mini games were not very challenging but maybe that was to make up for the hard hidden object scenes.
The other thing about this game was that it was glitchy. When I trialled it, I had no problem with it but after I bought it, it ran kind of weird. For example, every time the first screen would load, it would flicker. One time it told me my profile was corrupt and I had to start over, luckily I had just started but each time it flickered again and I would cross my fingers that my game would be okay (it was).
The overall story in this game lost me at some point too. Im not sure if it was the slow pace of the game or the hidden object scenes putting me off but when I found out what happened, I didn't care and it didn't make sense. And I felt like this game was never going to end. Near the end, I thought I had everything I needed to complete the game but it kept sending me back to the same scenes I had gone to previously where a hidden object scene magically appeared in the same spot for the 3rd or 4th time. That does not make a game fun in my opinion.
Its definitely not the worst game Ive ever bought and played but its not really one of the best either...I don't recommend it.
I don't recommend this game.

I really loved this game from the start. It isn't the hardest game but its still challenging enough to be fun. There is lots of things to do and lots of rooms to see all of them different. Its a murder mystery of sorts. You find lots of bodies, wonder who the killer is. For a while I thought one thing about who the killer was and then it had a tremendous plot twist at the end! I love games like that. I almost wish it had a bonus chapter so I could see what happens next. I probably would have bought this as a CE if it was offered because I played it mostly at night and it took me like 6 hours to play this and for a game thats almost linear thats amazing but it had so many things to explore. When I thought I was done with a section, it would take me back there later. I really can't say enough good things about this game and the fun factor is amazing. The music cued up in all the right spots especially liked when you found a dead body how the sound effects were. Kudos to the developer! And its more adventure then hidden object as in the Hidden object scenes you are just putting objects back together so you can find the inventory item. Fun Fun!!
I recommend this game!

I love the dark parable games so I just can't figure out why I can't stand this one. I am halfway through and I just don't think I can or want to play anymore of it because I am sooo bored! The Exiled Prince is one of my all time favorite games as it was magical and breathtaking and the developers really gave it their all and it showed but this one is just lacking something. It has great graphics like all the rest of this developers games but the storyline is rather dull and the puzzles are nothing to be desired as this developer needs to come up with some new ideas which are not putting what animal into a habitat. Those puzzles are special but not when its every single one of them. I also feel in this game I have no direction like Im just doing things to do them. Im picking up beautiful jewels just to place them 2 seconds later. I am just confused with this offering. I don't understand how a developer I love so much can produce something so boring and bland and I can't figure out how this game has so many high reviews. Yes, its visually stunning but that doesn't make a game great. Im very sad this game doesn't live up to my expectations because I love this series and was so quick to jump at the change to buy the CE of the exiled prince. I even went and bought the briar rose because I didn't realize how I could have missed out on that game the first time around and loved it but I feel like its a tedious chore trying to get through this one and the snow is just too much. Im sick of snow games and this one is beautiful but just makes no sense.
I don't recommend this game.

Elephant Games are one of my favorite developers but this game is lackluster at best which is sad because Raincliff is one of my all time favorite games. The best way to describe this game is "Sloppy". I've never played an Elephant game that had sparkles in advanced mode for hidden object scenes. Usually Elephant Games gives a really stellar performance and its almost as if this game was tossed together using old scenes from raincliff and not putting much thought into it at all. I thought the game itself though was fun as it kept my attention and was just long enough to hook me but not too long like their game surface which bored me to death halfway through. So Im kind of torn reviewing this because although I do like it and think it had lots of potential, I think Elephant games fell short with this one. I've seen what they can do as a developer and this is a mediocre offering at best which is sad because the rest of the games in this series are amazing. This offering reminds me of something ERS would do which is throw together some junk, make the atmosphere pretty and call it a masterpiece but what companies like this don't realize is we as consumers KNOW what our favorite developers can do based on previous offerings and this Elephant Games is not a true reflection of who I value you to be and that is why I no longer buy ERS games so hopefully we will get some more awesome awe inspiring games from you that are not just beautiful but have great storylines and are not simply thrown together to make a profit. Cheers.
I recommend this game because its not a bad game, its just not where the 3rd installment of this game should be developmentally wise.
I recommend this game!

I have never bought a Hidden Mysteries game before but there is a first time for everything. Up until this point there has never been a game in this series that has been long enough, pretty enough, interesting enough or drawn me in until now. I liked the music, thought it went very nicely with the game. The plot was nice even though there were no voiceovers, it still had enough substance where I was hooked. It was a long game, took me multiple days to finish and the skill level was great on Expert because when I came back I remembered exactly what I was supposed to do instead of some games where Im confused the second I step back in.
I also liked the fact there were LOTS of places to explore. Every time I thought I was done, more things would pop up and I also liked how when you are done with an area, the arrow no longer lets you go that direction. Takes care of useless wandering around. There is a map that shows you places of interest but you cannot jump to places on it. I didn't even notice the map til the end of the game so it was easy to navigate on its own but did require a lot of back and forth (but I like that). There were just the right amount of hidden object scenes, most interactive.
I found this game very enjoyable and I was satisfied by the ending. Cheers!
I recommend this game!

I LOVED this game. All of it from start to finish was awesome. It had every element that should be in a CE from voiceovers that actually sound like the character to great graphics, music, hidden object scenes and more. It even fit my widescreen computer. When I demo'ed this game the villains voice began to grind on my nerves but playing the actual full length game changed that for me. I started to want to hear him even more. It was intriguing and psychologically disturbing which are my favorite games since I am a psych major ;) I love the interworking of others minds and this had everything to really pull you in. Also, it started to feel like I was playing a movie especially at the end because it gave a proper ending! The people who buy the SE of this game will have a full ending that will leave them with complete satisfaction however I am glad I bought the CE of this game. It was also LONG but not so long it got repetitive or boring. There is sooo much to search and uncover so if you are a person who doesn't like the back and forth this may not be for you but there is a map that tells you what rooms you should go back to even though you can't jump from room to room via the map. I played this game for days and it was sooo enjoyable! I am so sad its over but I know I will end up playing it again and again.
The bonus game was wonderful too not just a bunch of hidden object scenes thrown together. It actually had objectives and a twist ending unlike so many other games where characters randomly come back to life or the ghosts go away. This was realistic like it could happen and the ending wowed me. The only difference SE buyers should be aware of is that when the game ends although satisfying it gives the illusion that their will be a second game, hey who knows maybe there will be BUT the bonus game goes to 3 months in the future and ties things off. So in theory you don't need the bonus game to enjoy all this game has to offer but it does add a little something special and an extra wow factor to the overall game. I never buy CE's and I am sooo glad I splurged on this one. Oh and besides just the bonus game there are a lot of extra features like wallpapers, art, a comic of oscar which is hilarious but what I liked most was the interview with the developers on what they did and how they came up with the idea. It isn't in english so it has subtitles and I really just felt like they were proud of what they created and wanted us to share with them this tremendous accomplishment. I would like to see more developers put a personal spin on it like that. This is in my top 10 best games ever! CHEERS!!!
I recommend this game!

Its no secret that I have been very dissatisfied with ERS games in the past year but the first game in this series was so special! It was one of those games that just draws you in and makes you so appreciative of the outside thinking of the box and its a game that made me fall in love with this genre of games so that being said even though ERS has let me down so many times now in the past year I had high hopes that this sequel would live up to the first one which had won my heart over years prior. However, this game is heartbreaking in my opinion. It starts off easy and never really gets to a hard point of the game. All the puzzles are the same as other games they have done. Nothing is new and the "save the children" part is the same as many of their other games.
What really bothered me about this game was the lack of originality and how after the first hour it disintegrated into one hidden object scene after the other to find the needed objects. There was nothing clever about finding them and when you have 2-3 different hidden object scenes per room, the game feels like they just threw it together instead of putting any real thought behind it. Besides that part, the ending just abruptly ended. I didn't buy the CE of the first one because I didn't buy CE's at all then and I had an ending that was satisfactory to the game but this game gave me what I was supposed to do and then cut off. There was no conclusion or satisfaction of beating the guy I had chased for 2 years. Instead I was given a lacklaster abrupt ending because I didn't choose the CE.
I've reached a breaking now with ERS games. I used to buy them solely at the 4.99 price on sale or DD's to kill the time but I don't want to support their company at all now. I think they are a disgrace to the gaming industry and strip people of me from their hard earned money for a game that is mediocre at best but covered up by wonderful graphics. Their graphics are so amazing that they could be the best game developer out there and most respected but they choose to go the easy way out and put out games that aren't the best of their ability and thats where I draw the line. As of this point, I am done with ERS.
I don't recommend this game.

This game hooked me from the beginning as I liked the house taking people concept..something new BUT this SE isn't complete. The ending gave you no sort of resolution to what actually happened and I assume thats because the bonus game in the CE gave you the appropriate ending. I think it cheats the buyer to do that as bonus games should be a BONUS, not an ending to the game. So you never find what happened afterwards or if the town went back. Really disappointing. The game was VERY easy even on expert and HAD a bazillion hidden object scenes although pretty easy ones. However, when I saw one, I cringed because I would have liked more adventure. Also, in expert mode you can see the sparkles for the hidden object scenes so you are not completely on your own and the top bar gives you suggestions of what you might need instead of leaving you to do it yourself.
I did like the music and the graphics. Loved the story idea but hated the ending. Wish it had been harder but had the ending been sufficient I would have given this 4 stars. I can't say whether I recommend this game or not. If you don't care about storyline and endings then go for it and if you are a new player this is probably an easy game to get you started. I don't mind an easy game now and then, they can be fun (haunted manor queen of death didn't even have a difficulty level and I LOVED that game) BUT like I said disappointing ending. sigh.
