I know many will think this corney but I simply loved this very cute and bizzaar solitaire game. The graphics are adorable and Dr. Mal Pracrice? Seriously? Cartoon fun where you "treat" patients with a round of solitaire. I loved the sound effects and the music. This game is not for zoning out but for pure entertainment. There are power ups and trophies to win. Each round has three gold star to earn and they do get challenging as you progress. There is also a replay if you want. Fun Fun and Fun is how I would describe this game. Gotto to go back and get those gold stars and help our insane Doc. I dont know, call me whacky, but I really do love this game.
Another Fairy Tale and this time it's a slight variation of Beauty and The Beast. The Graphics are stunning and I loved the vibrant colors, especially when entering the Beast's realm. There are voice-overs that are well acted and music and sound effects are applied. Although I did find Bella's attitude a bit prissy and her voice slightly off. Fairly Twisted Tales is a HOPA with two modes of play and a vairation on HO scenes. You have your basic HO scenes where you find items off a list and some fragmented HO scenes as well. Adventure game play is your standark seek and find, there is the random clicking to locate some objects which are difficult to spot and you have mini-games that were very easy to solve. You have a journal and list of objectives as well as a map that does allow you to travel. While gameplay was not overly challenging, I did enjoy the many pzzles to solve along with the HO scenes. he story is interesting and I sense a deeper conspiracy is involved ith Bella's Family. While I wsn't blown away by the game, I do think it is an idea SE game to have for beginners as well as to some of us a good bed time stories with a touch of romance. Its not a great game but the developers have put alot of effort into the game mechanics and into the graphics There is no WOW factor for me but in my experience, there are some games that you can play over and over again then there are some games that are lack-lustre and forgettable; you play them once, enjoy the experience and then delete them. Sadly this is one of them.
If you have never played a large File Adventure Game, now is your chance to get a small taste of it. Hard core Adventure fans will definitely love this game and beginners, although they may find the excess dialogue and backtracking frustrating, my advice is to be patient and try to just enjoy this fantastic game that not only offers a fascinating story but has terrific game features that give you just as much satisfaction as if you were watching a great movie. Brink of Consiousness introduces us to the notorious serial killer called the Lonely Broken Heart Killer. His MO is to kidnap victims that all have one thing in common; a broken heart from love gone bad. After 30 days, he leaves their lifeless body on public display with their hearts removed and replaced with a yellow lotus flower. The 19th century British version of our CSI team take on the case, Comamander Logan Green and his once upon a time mentor, Owen Wirght who has just discovered that his missing daughter Olivia is possibly the next victim. Now the two must race against the clock to rescue her from a gruesome death and catch this Psycho. The graphics are simply stunning and I especially loved that you can add a grainy look to scenes from your option menu. The voice-overs are excellent and very well acted. There is alot of dialogue to cover which may put off some people. But they are important as you do get alot of clues and background information. My only concern was the lack of any journal or notebook, so be prepared to take down notes. There are alot of witnesses to interogate and alot of information to get. There are three modes to choose and only hardcore mode offers no sparkles whatsoever. Game mechanics run like a Large File game where you have characters moving around your screen. There is alot of seek and find of inventory objects and alot of backtracking to do. My advice, take down notes in order to keep track of your tasks that need to be done. However, unlike adventure games, there are HO scenes that are interactive and junk-piled. I loved some of the interactions in them and thought they were great fun. Mini-games are not terribly hard to solve but I do compliment the developers on how well some were designed. I ran across some unique puzzles that were absolutely fun to play. Game mechanics were easy and if you do choose to play casual or easy mode, you do have a map that will outline your progress. I recommend this game to everyone, especially for those who have not yet ventured into the large file genre; this game is simple to play without the complexities involved in a Large File adventure game. Lonely Hearts Murders was definitely worth every penny as a CE but the bonus section was more of an epilogue that could lead us to a sequel. I think if you passed, the SE version will do just as good. Seriously, do not be put off by the dialogues and the tracking, think of this as a great novel or interactive film you are in. It was a brilliant game with fantastic plot, graphics and sound. Kudos to the developers on their latest venture.
Who doesn't love Fairy Tales, especially the story of Cinderella. Based on the famous story, you are a detective hired by Prince Charming to find the girl who stole his heart at the ball. Can you guess what your only clue is? and can this story get anymore cheesier? So off you go, with a glass slipper on hand, a Unicorn to ride, a letter from the Prince and a camera to take the odd photo for your album, (There are 30 photos required to collect thropughout the game). From one of my favorite game developers, this time we have a unique HOPA where the HO scenes are reversed and not as simple as one would think. Placing objects back to their place is fun and a break from your standard HOGs. There are three modes to play, you have options with many settings to adjust and the Graphics are stunning but I do wish the resolution was a bit better as there was some blurriness in scenes. I loved the voice-overs and sound effects as well as the soundtrack which really amplified the gaming experience immensly. The mini-games started off simple but gradually they became more challenging and fun. You have inventory objects to pick-up and ofcourse the HO scenes to play. I had a blast with the demo and look forward to helping Prince Charming find the girl. Naturally I am expecting to run inot trouble as I have already encountered the nasty harpies on the first leg of my journey.
I know I wrote several times about how difficult it was to come up with an original storyline, but seriously these developers took no shame in 'borrowing' from well know stories. What we have here is a theme that is all over the place, and we have Harry Potter meets The Twighlight gang meets an occult of satanists. Our girl's Mother's name is Bella, need I say more? The plot involves a young girl who has lost both parents and discovers that in fact her mother was taken from this world by a demon that was summond at the Twightlight School. She must travel between worlds to save her. The game looks like it came out of the vault and there are still cobwebs that need to be cleaned off. The graphics are bad with stiff cartoon characters that are drawn very crudelly set against 2D graphics. There are no voice-overs, instead the developers have used music to set the tone of each scene, reminding me of the silent movie era. This is a HOPA that offers two modes of difficulty. Casual mode had sparkles everywhere which was very frustrating. Advanced had absolutely no sparkles except for HO scenes. Game features a journal and you can travel to locations via icons that are located above the hint button. The game was more adventure and gameplay was all over the place. I had no idea what I was suppose to do or what I need to look for so I ended up clicking all over the place. Thank God the hint button refilled quickly. HO scenes were not interactive and there was a problem with translation, ie: a bucket is not a basket. Mini games were ordinary without any challenge to them. This game is a paradox, its so bad that it actually became entertaining to play. By the end of the demo, I actually wanted to continue just to find out where the storyline would take me. But in all honesty, I cannot recommend this game. Its crude and old and I think I will manage to live without knowing if Bella is rescude from the demon. This Twighlight School needs to go back to the vault and rest in peace.
Tis the season to be jolly and what better way to take time out from the hustle and bustle than a game of Mahjong. I simply loved the music even if it was on a loop; it was orchestrated and uplifting. There is no story at all, just levels of Mahong tiles with seasonal prints. The tiles are a bit on the small side for me and my eyes began to tire very early on in the game. You have levels of games to play and each level has goals to achieve in order to get the three gold stars. Gameplay gets more challenging as you progress and there are trophies to earn as well. This game will appeal to those who are Mahjong junkies but personally, I think I will pass. I prefer Mahjong without the stress of goals.

I am a big fan of Lovecraft and his obsession with immortality is certainly a theme that takes hold of this story. Our detective is asked to help C.D. Ward in tracking down the Revenant Murderer who he claims is his ancestor, Curwen. Our slightly mad Antagonist is after human souls who he believes is the key to immortality and it is up to us to stop him. Dark Mysteries is a good HOPA that offers a strong story line and interesting game features. I was not a big fan of the graphics; the hand-drawn artwork makes this game look old and worn-out which really is not much of a preference of mine. However the colors are vibrant and objects are clear. However I thought the sound effects and music was outstanding and together they offer a great ambience to the gameplay. Game features a journal and the intersting past of the journal is that you have four seperate hints that will show you what to do next. There is no map and I really di not need one. The HO scenes are crowded and interactive and the puzzles, while very easy to solve, some did have a fun factor to it. The game did not thrill me as much as other adventure games do but I am intrigued at the prospect of having a Lovecraft novel as part of the bonus section. Over all a decent game which could have been a little better in the challenge department.
I actually bought the CE edition and seeing it here has reminded me of how much I enjoyed the entire game. For those who opted to wait, please do not hesitate to get the SE (the bonus section really did not add too much to the story), as you will find yourself helping our famous novelist to solve another tragic ghost story. The Storyline involves a beautiful violinist who tragically died under mysterious circumstances and her earth bound spirit now haunts Dana's cousin. Dana is asked to help and together you go on a beautiful adventure that involves stunning graphics, beautifully drawn and set against the snowy backdrop of Austria. There are great voice-overs and music which sets the mood. Game features involved three modes of difficulty and there were 6 chapters to play. The HO scenes were interactive and varied in style. The mini-puzzles were fun and as an added treat, there are also Achievements to earn throughtout the game. A great game that offers a fantastic story, great visuals and sounds along with entertaining gameplay which is a 5 star SE game anyday.
The origial Phantasmat is definitely on my list of top favorite hits, and while this fares close to the first game, there is something that is amiss and that is the degree of challenge in the gameplay itself. No doubt the new developers have done a great job with the visuals and sound. I loved the graphics and I thought the openning scene was captivating. The storyline grabbed me at the beginning and continues the theme of the original game; Trapped in a bizzaar setting with strange people trying to keep you there. This time our story takes place somewhere in the alps. After having survived (or did we?) an avalanch, we find ourselves in a deserted ski resort where its habitants are seemingly dead. We must now find a way to escape and our only alley is not so trustworthy. There seems to be some sort of tragedy that has occured involving a family and from what I gather, a pyromaniac seems to be part of the mystery. I especially found the little pesky rodent adorable and having him pop up from time to time. This is your standard HOPA and like the first Phantasmat, you have a choice to switch to M3 during the HO scenes. There is no journal and no map so be prepared to be wondering back and forth and this time you will be needing smow boots instead. There are three play modes to choose from and you can always switch modes during the game which is always an advantage. The Hint system tells you exactly what to do and where to go so the SG is really obsolete. The HO scenes are crowded and interactive and the mini-games were not very challenging but there was fun factor to some of them. Game mechanics are easy not very challenging. Obviously as a CE game, the extras offer the usual fares with additional HO games and puzzles to play. There are no achievements or collectables which I found to be dissapointing and I really wish these developers would start to incorporate these elements into their games. Overall This Phantasmat has a good storyline, clean grapphics and easy gameplay which should satisfy many games. I personally am a bit weary as to the length of the game as I managed to complete the entire demo well within the hour. However, as I am a fan of this genre and I did find the story compelling and I could use the extra three credits, I will splurge on this game. However, as a precautionary note, I am unwilling to give it a 5 star as I still am slightly dissapointed with that it did not thrill me as much as the first Phantasmat did.
After being attacked, Jacques regains conciousness in a tavern and finds that he has been branded with a mysterious seal. His adventure begins as we join him in this classic Interactive Hidden Object Game to solve the mystery behind the selas. . It has been a long time since we have had a good HOG and I realised afte having played the demo just how much I missed them. Graphics are very good, combining catoon style characters set against beautiful artwork that look like oil painted canvases. There are voice-overs as well as written dialogue and music that sets the mood. Dont be misled by this game as being a simple HOG. There is some adventure and interaction involved and the HO scenes were quite challenging. Items were camoflaged and at times I had to resort to hints to find them. You initially get three hints but you can increase them by shooting at a bandit that occasional pops up onyour screen. There are also 150 fleur-de-lyes to collect throughout the game and there are not so easy to spot. Game also features a map that allows you to travel to locations and there is backtracking involved as you will find that not all the inventory items are available in one location. The only problem I found was that I became so engrossed in the HO scenes that I completely lost track of the story which I completely ignored at the beginning. It is a pity that there is no journal or diary to keep track of what is going on. There are also trophies to earn which does add replay value and an unlimited bonus section once you have collect all 150 fleur de lyes. I do own the previous Golden Trails games and I will definitely be adding this to my collection of favorite HO Games. Although it has proved to be a slight strain on my eyesight, I do realise that I have missed the classic HOG.
