It seems like most of the negative ratings for this game have to do with the non-linear aspect of this wonderful adventure. Well, that's their loss. Life isn't linear either, we don't always go from point A to point B to reach C...sometimes we hit Y or Z and have to go back to A so we can hit X (marks the spot!). The graphics are gorgeously atmospheric hand draw/colored artworks- the cut-scenes are flawless, detailed and I love the addition of actual actors. Artistically, it flows beautifully. The story is engaging, the plot fun, great puzzles and I actually enjoyed the HOGs. I purchased this game in 2020, so it executes six year old technology which absolutely surpasses today's lazy, high-tech cookie-cutter, assembly-line, vapid casual gaming. 'Tis a pity. Dev's need to re-discover their art. Love this game!

Vendel is quickly becoming my favorite dev. How many of us miss the days of hand drawn and hand colored graphics? EVERYBODY!!! This is a wonderful, challenging game. The HOGs didn't even annoy me! Storyline is very engaging, the graphics just beautiful and atmospheric. The VOs are a mix of American and English- which makes total sense. I love the puzzles- they ain't easy! If you love haunted English villages, do yourself a favor- this one is a keeper! Loved it, great job devs!

OK, granted, not my kinda Halloween game. I like mine a bit more traditional. First off, my game ran perfectly, not one glitch, not one slow load. I actually enjoyed the HOGs; they usually annoy me. Graphics, not stellar but still a good effort. One dimensional characters that I really didn't even care about. VO's were good. The bonus game flowed well into the main game. The morphers, collectibles and puzzle pieces were a challenge to find, for sure. I enjoyed the puzzles- some were tough, some easier. Yeah, some of the objects you have to find to move the story forward don't make sense but at least its not the dreaded locked mailbox that takes three parts to unlock and the mailbox contains no mail, just toenail clippers...cuz we all know we keep our toiletries in a locked mailbox...wonder if the mailman has the key? That must be why I haven't been receiving my mail lately. Hey, there are plenty of worse Halloween games out there-I know, I played one before this one. That one was horrendous. Defying Death is a good game- not great- but good and worth playing. And, I swear, this is my last Halloween game this year. I know I've said that before but this time I really mean it! Get the game and Happy Halloween!

I really enjoyed this game, especially the surprize ending! The music was time appropriate, the scenery was gorgeous and gothic without being super saturated with the dreaded pink and purple. Some of the puzzles were very challenging, the HOGs were not annoying and I enjoyed the variations. The VO's, although not geographically correct (American) were nonetheless delivered very well and very smoothly. The VO actors did not sound like they were doing a project for Acting for Beginners 101. The actual characters themselves-excellent artwork, but the devs could have employed a bit more fluidity in the characters' movements. However, this does not take away from the game or the very engaging storyline. This is the fourth Halloween game I've played so far and it'll be my seasonal last 'till Christmas. I'm so glad I saved the best for last. Great job- loved it!!

Soul-less. I never give a one star rating because I know some effort is put into creation. But that's where it ends. Story? What story? This is the most sophomoric effort (what effort?), lazy, boring issue by Domino to date. If this is the future of gaming, count me out. The plot is a yawn. And really- I have to sew up a hole in an oven mitt and get a glass shard to cut a thorny bush? Are you kidding me? You can tell the folks behind this waste had given up. Read Fortunatus' 1 star review because at least that is well done and says it all. Devs have to realize the majority of gamers on this site are thinking adults. Please don't waste your money on this game- take a nap instead, a lot more exciting.
I don't recommend this game.

This game was created before all the cg enhancement, when the scenes were hand drawn, the atmosphere palpable and barely any hand holding. The story is mature and geared for the majority of subscribers to this site. You have to think during this wonderful game- the HOGs are not for the faint of heart. The map barely helps. This game harkens back to the days of Myst and Riven. The puzzles are original and not the usual blah-blah one finds on the endless conveyor belt of cookie cutter games today. And so far I have not had to find one emblem to open a mailbox that contained a screwdriver or wrench!! Bravo!! Devs take notice!

The beautiful graphics here are this game's saving grace. Firstly, the whole idea of there being several separate horror stories as movies involving each character could have been explored in a better way. There really is nothing to distinguish the stories as movies except for some scenes that look like an old film reel. The story is a bit simplistic, sophomoric- definitely for tweens and teens. This would bore adults. But, I'm playing it, some puzzles were challenging (they need to be explained in a better fashion). And I do love anything Halloween. This isn't a bad game- just a tad sub-par.
I recommend this game!

I adore history- and truth is stranger than fiction. This wonderful game based on the beloved story by Victor Hugo. The movie starring Charles Laughton brought us to tears The puzzles are tough, the HOG's fun but- the story is sublime! Great job developers! We really need more like this!

I love this developer! They manage to always bring in the unknown, hermetic side of history and it almost always involves the Templars! Who doesn't love the Templars?!I I love games that present history in this manner. We need more like this. The voice overs are excellent, top notch and well acted. Gorgeous, hand drawn scenery, motion is absolutely fluid and the segway/cutaway scenes- none better! The story, especially if you're a medieval history buff pulls you right in and keeps you there. The HOPs are actually fun and not annoying. Puzzles take some thought but are not frustrating. A few took me quite a while to figure. Sound effects and music match the scenes, very atmospheric. I love this game and was so glad I found it- only took me about two years to find it! Always keep scouring the lists of games and you'll find the few gems like this among countless elves, dwarves, dragons, witches, vampires, haunted hotels, lost relatives, and ghosties ad nauseum. Puzzle pieces and morphers to find. Do yourself a favor, add this game to your collection. THANK YOU, DEVELOPERS!!!

Spirit of Revenge: Elizabeth's Secret Collector's Edition
There’s a secret in Queen Elizabeth’s court, and you must uncover it.
History- the darker side, the hidden side. I'm not going to give anything away, but I've researched Elizabeth I and what is presented here in this superb game may very well be true; and the rumor has many tentacles!
