I really enjoyed this game, especially the surprize ending! The music was time appropriate, the scenery was gorgeous and gothic without being super saturated with the dreaded pink and purple. Some of the puzzles were very challenging, the HOGs were not annoying and I enjoyed the variations. The VO's, although not geographically correct (American) were nonetheless delivered very well and very smoothly. The VO actors did not sound like they were doing a project for Acting for Beginners 101. The actual characters themselves-excellent artwork, but the devs could have employed a bit more fluidity in the characters' movements. However, this does not take away from the game or the very engaging storyline. This is the fourth Halloween game I've played so far and it'll be my seasonal last 'till Christmas. I'm so glad I saved the best for last. Great job- loved it!!
Soul-less. I never give a one star rating because I know some effort is put into creation. But that's where it ends. Story? What story? This is the most sophomoric effort (what effort?), lazy, boring issue by Domino to date. If this is the future of gaming, count me out. The plot is a yawn. And really- I have to sew up a hole in an oven mitt and get a glass shard to cut a thorny bush? Are you kidding me? You can tell the folks behind this waste had given up. Read Fortunatus' 1 star review because at least that is well done and says it all. Devs have to realize the majority of gamers on this site are thinking adults. Please don't waste your money on this game- take a nap instead, a lot more exciting.
This game was created before all the cg enhancement, when the scenes were hand drawn, the atmosphere palpable and barely any hand holding. The story is mature and geared for the majority of subscribers to this site. You have to think during this wonderful game- the HOGs are not for the faint of heart. The map barely helps. This game harkens back to the days of Myst and Riven. The puzzles are original and not the usual blah-blah one finds on the endless conveyor belt of cookie cutter games today. And so far I have not had to find one emblem to open a mailbox that contained a screwdriver or wrench!! Bravo!! Devs take notice!
The beautiful graphics here are this game's saving grace. Firstly, the whole idea of there being several separate horror stories as movies involving each character could have been explored in a better way. There really is nothing to distinguish the stories as movies except for some scenes that look like an old film reel. The story is a bit simplistic, sophomoric- definitely for tweens and teens. This would bore adults. But, I'm playing it, some puzzles were challenging (they need to be explained in a better fashion). And I do love anything Halloween. This isn't a bad game- just a tad sub-par.
Find the festivalgoer abducted by the gargoyles of Notre Dame and uncover the cathedral’s dark past in this reimagining of the Victor Hugo’s classic tale.
I adore history- and truth is stranger than fiction. This wonderful game based on the beloved story by Victor Hugo. The movie starring Charles Laughton brought us to tears The puzzles are tough, the HOG's fun but- the story is sublime! Great job developers! We really need more like this!
I love this developer! They manage to always bring in the unknown, hermetic side of history and it almost always involves the Templars! Who doesn't love the Templars?!I I love games that present history in this manner. We need more like this. The voice overs are excellent, top notch and well acted. Gorgeous, hand drawn scenery, motion is absolutely fluid and the segway/cutaway scenes- none better! The story, especially if you're a medieval history buff pulls you right in and keeps you there. The HOPs are actually fun and not annoying. Puzzles take some thought but are not frustrating. A few took me quite a while to figure. Sound effects and music match the scenes, very atmospheric. I love this game and was so glad I found it- only took me about two years to find it! Always keep scouring the lists of games and you'll find the few gems like this among countless elves, dwarves, dragons, witches, vampires, haunted hotels, lost relatives, and ghosties ad nauseum. Puzzle pieces and morphers to find. Do yourself a favor, add this game to your collection. THANK YOU, DEVELOPERS!!!
History- the darker side, the hidden side. I'm not going to give anything away, but I've researched Elizabeth I and what is presented here in this superb game may very well be true; and the rumor has many tentacles! I love games that present history in this manner. We need more like this. The voice overs are excellent and well acted. Gorgeous, hand drawn scenery, motion is absolutely fluid and the segway/cutaway scenes- none better! The story, especially if you're a history buff pulls you right in and keeps you there. Always keep scouring the lists of games and you'll find the few gems like this among countless elves, dwarves, dragons, witches, vampires, haunted hotels, lost relatives, and ghosties ad nauseum. Wonderful items to find, like words that total a famous poem in the end! Do yourself a favor, add this game to your collection. THANK YOU, DEVELOPERS!!!
As you can see, I purchased this recently and just now began to play it as I have a couple 100 games and covid makes it so easy to immerse myself in gaming. And that's what I want: immersion and escape- which this game provides in spades. So many creepy stories can be woven around the Knights Templar (a personal favorite of mine). Right there you've got endless possibilities: add beautifully rendered hand drawn realistic artwork that is very atmospheric, a great storyline, time-appropriate music, challenging puzzles, HOGs that are not annoying and you've got a terrific product! Granted, you have to wade through 100's and 100's of games to find these gems, but they are there. This game is not what I would call linear. And there is no hand-holding save for hints, journal and strategy guide. Hints are minimal- not a whole lot of detail and no arrow pointing. NO MAP! You've got to put in the work and if you're a fan of these historic takes on secret societies, you are gonna love this!!!
Usual paradigm by Domini- lots of goodies to find, interactive scenes- click on birds they fly away, click on vases they fall (keeps it interesting). I have to admit this game's graphics are sharp and crisp and not too saturated with the dreaded purple and pink. I appreciate the dev's attention to trying to bring more atmosphere to the scenes- fell just a tad short. Same linear story told in a different way, but the puzzles are fun and the HOGs have different twists plus a match-3 option which I appreciate. Domini has to work on character development. The voice-overs sound very amateurish; that's disappointing. Jeez, all these new games by all these developers are the same old rehash, obviously some better than others. I look to the old games for more realism, truly immersive stories, especially concerning "strange but true": real esotericism, occultism, hermeticism, murder mysteries, the darker, mysterious side of religion and history. PLEASE devs, GET BACK TO THAT!! These cookie cutter games being churned out like a conveyor belt are really disappointing me. Sick of saving the world, rescuing my relatives from other-wordlies and haunted hotels. I HATE elves, dwarves, and dragons. And the whole vampire thing has been done to death...or un-death as it were lol. However, this game is a nice, well done way to pass an afternoon while being sequestered. Domini puts out a good product, even if predictable.
Decent story line, lots of collectibles. Some of the puzzles were definitely very challenging and there are some great twists on the usual junk pile HOGs- and you have a match-3 option which is fantastic. Characters were not very fluid in their movements and a bit wooden. The graphics are terrific- no purple saturation and I love the little store signs that allude to the dev's name Domini. You click on things and they react- like birds flying away or vases falling. Kind of the same ol-same ol' but with solid production, great map, linear paradigm, good story, good length. I did enjoy playing this game and am happy I purchased it.
