I own the original in SE format, and I had recently replayed after several years. (I have been doing this frequently because the current new releases are not my cup of tea.)
Especially if your previous purchase of the original was the SE version, the remaster is worth buying (especially on BOGO where there is only one game you want to buy--this can be your second game).
I tested it before buying and it didn't seem like the same game.
Graphics are excellent, HOs are fun and appropriate for the story. The games are easier (good because they don't interrupt the flow of the game}. The morphs are subtle, and the collectables are tiny dragons which aren't that easy to spot.

I bought this game without trial. Not sorry. If you have played previous games don't hesitate on buying this game. Bombs are back and so are the boxes. Spot the difference and mahjongg. A new twist on matching new tiles, Enough new to make this game fresh. Characters are as amusing as ever,
I got this during the BOGO promotion, so technically, I paid nothing for this game. I was selected to beta test this game and my feelings have not changed. The beta and the final were nearly identical. Visually, it is very nice. I love the way the cats looked. The voice acting was appropriate. The good stops there. Illogical. And the scenario makes no sense. I struggled to complete the main game. I tried to play the bonus game, but I decided I didn't care anymore. The minigames are mostly easy (except the shifting picture game at the very start--awkward.) The music was annoying. Overall, this game is not enjoyable. Try before you buy!
This is one of the most awful games I have ever played, and I have played hundreds of games. No plot, confusing game play. Directions are unclear! Visually unappealing. Try before you buy!
I saw this as the daily catch. I already owned the CE but I bought it in 2017. So, I decided to download it and replay. Blew my socks off. HO's, puzzles, story exceptional. It has aged well and puts the newer games to shame. The story is especially current in today's climate. We can defeat the world eaters! Gave me hope.
The flow of this game is very good. I own all of the previous games. All in CE format. Due to the bad reviews, I decided to wait for the SE, and even then, waited for a good sale to hedge my bet. I didn't try before buying this game. I had low expectations. BUT the game is enjoyable even for more experienced HOPA players. Different twist on the puzzles and HO's were quite inventive. I actually like Ewan. He fits in this game. James was always almost being killed in this series so as a newlywed his decision to retire made sense. I liked the sense of closure. Don't let the critical reviews deter you from this game!
I bought this as a daily deal. One of the few Dark Tales I didn't already own. The game is super easy to navigate. The voice acting is acceptable. The mini games aren't difficult (I am not a puzzle person), so didn't have to skip. The HO's aren't ordinary and require some thought. This is a good game.
I couldn't get this game to play after many attempts but finally got it to play setting it to play with Windows Vista settings, I had no problems with the sound. The HO's were inventive. The mini games were enjoyable. The story line was interesting. I though the 1st Camelot was better, but I did like this game.
I bought the CE and highly recommend it for the bonus chapter. Story moves along and doesn't seem padded with unnecessary fillers. The collectables weren't overly obvious. Puzzle pieces to find sometimes popped up after you exited an area. Puzzles are all doable and I am not a big puzzle fan. I didn't have to skip any. The main story is good, but the bonus is excellent. If your budget allows it in these inflationary times get the CE. If not, treat yourself with the SE!
