A basic but kooky HOG, which has some interesting little tasks in each scene. There is a riddle to solve in each one. You click on the object you think answers the riddle. There are also gems to find, and you will have to move things out of the way, twiddle knobs on radios, open boxes, that kind of thing. There are only 5 hints available for each chapter. There is an opportunity to refill depleted hints, at the end of each level, by playing a basic match 3 game, which is always the same. Apart from the obvious leaning into boredom after a while of doing this, I really liked the game. The only thing was, all the riddles and gems and cute little puzzles to find them, ended after a few chapters, and you were left with the same basic HOS to play over and over again. Could have done with at least five new scenes with new riddles and gems. Considering only four people made this game though, it's really good. They couldn't or wouldn't do it these days and the game wouldn't be half as fun.
I recommend this game!

This game has lots of old school charm. You explore the ocean, and as you sail, you clear away blankets of cloud, to reveal exciting islands and ports. You trade at these ports and islands of interest and also pick up and complete quests. If you encounter another ship on your travels, you can decide to fight or run away. Sometimes, you won't have a choice. You fight by playing a basic match 3 game every time. It can get quite strategic. You build up your money as you fight ships, complete quests and do other tasks, and have the option to upgrade your ship, buy land and gain XP. After the initial excitement of exploration, I got bored fairly quickly. It gets quite repetitive. I know I haven't covered all the bases and explored all the areas, fought all the ships and done all the quests, but it does get monotonous after a while. I love that it doesn't railroad you down any linear path of play, so it's very liberating in that sense but I do like more linear game play. It's one of those comforting games, where you dip in and dip out, and play over several weeks or even months. There doesn't seem to be an ending but if you persevere, I can imagine you can get a lot of loot for your efforts and a fine fighting ship that is not easy to beat.

I liked the characters, the voice overs and the atmosphere. Good graphics too. It played a bit like a movie at times which I really liked. I could completely overlook that it didn't have any HOS because it is such a good game. It's obviously not a HOG though, so it has been unfairly categorised as such, and it appears people, including myself, expected different things from it, which is not the game's fault. The only real downside was that it was too short and that was a disappointment.

Adventure strategy game, which reminds me of the old board games I used to play as a kid, with those hexagonal combat maps. Visually, I liked it and the characters were interesting. Bought it for my husband and only watched the play, so this is based on his verbal review. The game play was repetitive but it was fun in it's simplicity. Good variety of characters to chose from for use in battles. Different types of opponents allow for some tactical variety. Being able to go to different islands with different environments was also interesting.

The Mirror Mysteries: Forgotten Kingdoms
The highly anticipated follow-up to the smash hit Mirror Mysteries is finally here! The mirror is back—can you extinguish his power for good?
An extra few levels would have brought this up to a decent sized game. Feel cheated and short changed. I liked the first hour because it reminded me a little of Bioshock, except instead of a water world, it was a sky world. There was an alternative reality feel that was coupled with that whole art nouveau/early1900's era. I thought that's how the whole game was going to be. Surprise surprise, after playing the demo and buying the game, it went a bit downhill. It didn't stay the sky world and we didn't get anymore of those British Pathe style newsreel type advertisements on the steam punky T.V's. I did think the game was quite unique and interesting with a lot of quick fun cutscenes and the voice acting was great. I don't like frag games as a rule, but this was well executed and the game play was good. Quick skip on puzzles and quite fast charging hint on all other scenes.

Loved this old school game from beginning to end. HOS are a little basic but adequate and there are many. Immediate skip on puzzles but long recharge on hints. Lots of atmosphere, gentle suspense, great pace, good gameplay and manages to be exciting and relaxing at the same time.

I think I felt pressured into buying this because there was a good deal on one weekend, as there usually is, and I didn't have any game lined up to buy. So it was a sort of impulse buy, after playing the demo ages ago. I don't like real live actors in hidden object games normally, it's like chalk down a blackboard, but some are doable. There wasn't any traditional HOS either, it was more of an adventure game with puzzles, so I was disappointed on that front. SPOILER *** I felt bad for the bus driver...all that work nursing him back to health and wham...I buy games to escape reality, not for people to have accidents and get injured, only to turn into zombies, which happens a lot in my world.

I bought the game after really liking the demo. It has so much potential but I thought the three chapters were boring, short and unimaginative. The game play itself was good. The HOS in these newer games are always disappointing, they lack ambience, scenery and objects ! They seem to be about hunting symbols most of the time. I thought the game lacked atmosphere, which it shouldn't have, in such a dramatic, creepy game genre. There was just something missing and I'm not sure what it was. What I did find interesting, intriguing and exciting was the moral decisions that you had to make. This was the basis and heart of the game and I think the developers put all their hard work into the mechanics of that, plus the graphics. I played it three times and I didn't even enjoy it the first time, but what I did enjoy, was the different choices and outcomes, and this is where its strength lies, although having to play it several times when the first time kind of bored you, was not so good.
I recommend this game!

I had to install it a few times and start again, because it kept crashing, It is quite an old school game so it pays to see through all the action scenes and cinematics, and not skip any of them! This made me appreciate the game more, overall, as I had to work so hard just to have it work. Like with a lot of older games, it's not a walk in the park, and it's more fun for the challenge. It's a little different to a lot of other games out there, really atmospheric and well executed for the scares, which were low key, but intense. It was sinister at times, rather than creepy. Love the dramatic voice actor portraying the psychopath, and how he said the same thing with different inflections, each time, to add interest. It's brimming with lovely hidden object scenes, so steer clear, if you're not a fan, otherwise, dive in.
I recommend this game!

Smooth, good paced gameplay, nice graphics and sound effects. Quick charge on hints and skips for puzzles, but no need to skip puzzles, as they are really imaginative, creative and so much fun! Not as many HOS here as its sister game, Stray Souls Dollhouse Story, but still a decent amount, and still with all the flair and action that characterizes this wonderful series of two.
