Maybe I've been spoiled by playing some exceptional games lately, but I have to admit that I wasn't quite as taken with this game as most reviewers. I did like the graphics, but I thought the story wasn't developed very well, even though it started out very promising. The difficulty level of the minigames wasn't very balanced; some were good and challenging, some were way too easy, and some were easy, but took way too much time to complete, the kind of game I have the suspicion developers like to put in to extend playtime. The bonus game, in my opinion, is not worth the extra money at all (and only slightly related to the main game). I got really bored and it felt like a task to finish it. The rest of the extras is the usual standard fare. No achievements or collectibles. So while I did enjoy playing this game most of the time, I would advise against getting the CE; it's really not worth the extra money!
This is a very nice HOG with some interactive scenes and puzzles that is well worth your money! Despite its age, it doesn't look and feel too dated, and I actually like the graphics! Well-crafted story and characters, too!
There's high replayability, as you can try to beat your previous scores. You can also unlock a hidden object mode (with scenes from the game) that you can replay separately and also try to beat your score. And there's a museum where all your findings are collected.
*Review of completed game* This is a straight HOG with a few easy mini-games thrown in. The story is okay; nothing that really drew me in and made me want to continue playing. I really enjoyed the graphics, though!
I liked having a few scenes to visit each chapter, and collecting inventory items to use in the various locations. What I disliked was the way those items, when found in a HOG, hovered in the middle of the screen way too long! The jewels you found by placing inventory items also did that, which really annoyed me!
It's a good game if you want to play a quick chapter inbetween, nothing to indulge yourself in on a lazy sunday. I really couldn't decide between 3 or 4 stars and chose 3, because it was just too simple for me, but I still recommend it for beginners and kids!
This is a rather old, but nevertheless very charming steampunk-y hidden object game, which should not be neglected despite its age! Good story, nice graphics. Innovative hidden object scenes that include scrolling, for example. A few selected, forgettable puzzles.
My only gripe is that this game is WAY too short! Finishing the story does unlock free play, which is nice, but I was very surprised at the length. To me, when it ended, I felt I was just getting into the story! It felt very rushed. Also, the hint system is good for hidden objects, but I felt there were too many hints of them! You can choose between 4 different hint types that cost your little helper different amounts of energy units. They fill up again rather quickly, though, and you could easily play a scene using hints only! I was missing the challenge. Achievements would've been nice! Hints are rather useless outside of hidden object scenes!
I wouldn't pay full price for this game, but anyone who likes hidden objects should definitely pick this up for the Daily Deal price!
*Review of completed game* This is definitely a must-have for IHOG players! Good story, relaxing hidden object scenes, many different puzzles that are challenging, but solvable. Good length, too. Playing never became a "task"; there was always something new to discover!
My only caveat is that the game didn't play all that smoothly on my (new!) computer. Cursor navigation was a bit clunky. Also, there were a few spelling/grammatical errors that could've easily been prevented! I didn't use the offered task list too much because for me, it was useless - too crowded with tasks that could only be completed at a later time, too confusing. The map was pretty, but not helpful, either, since you always stay in the same handful of scenes during one chapter and aren't required to backtrack to different regions.
But overall, this is a game I will definitely replay and I recommend it to everyone who enjoys this genre!
Well, pretty much everything has been said about this game. For me, this was hands down the best game I've played in a long time! I do not have anything to critcize at all! Gameplay is long, you have achievements, extras and bonus play, a well-crafted story, beautiful graphics and music, clever puzzles, bright HOGs etc. etc. And best of all - you get all this in a SE! Wow! This is definitely a game I will replay soon; it was so much fun and I'd definitely buy a sequel (even a CE one!). Developers, look at this game if you want to do it right!
*This review is based on the full game* This is a nice, long, relaxing IHOG that I really enjoyed playing. Graphics and music are good, gameplay is a bit on the easier side, but still offers enough challenge. All items needed were in reasonable distance, so no unnecessary longwinded backtracking. The story is okay; I didn't exactly die of suspense and had the ending figured out pretty soon, but that didn't bother me too much. Loading times between chapters were too long! But one thing really annoyed me: you go through the game trying to earn all achievements, and once you finish, there's no way to look at them and see what you've earned and missed. The game just kicks you out and wants you to create a new profile right away; it forgets that you've just spent a few hours playing. Grrr! But all in all, I do recommend this game after all, since I had fun playing!

This is a very whimsical game that I enjoyed playing very much! Great graphics, great story, just the right amount of humour and a good level of difficulty - a tad on the easy side, but not too easy, either, so it's a very relaxing gameplay experience. Great fairy tale setting!
My major complaint with this game is that this is the third one that I've played within a very short amount of time that is offered as Collector's Edition elsewhere, so it's impossible to fully "complete" the game and fill the remaining containers on the achievement page! I would've gladly bought the CE, and I wouldn't even have minded having with the SE if the game didn't mock me with 2 additional frogs in the achievements. That really took away from my enjoyment!
But, so as not to be unfair to the developers, the game still gets 4 stars!

*This review is based on the trial* Okay, so I really wanted to give this game a chance. I'm not very good at strategy and sim games, but once in a while there's one with a cute story, such as My Kingdom for a Princess, which I play even though I can't finish the levels on my own. (By the way, I didn't think this game was very similar to MKfaP) This game and me got off to a very bad start, given that I had quite a few problems with the graphics (on my brand new computer, which all other games run perfectly on!), i.e. constant flickering of different screen parts.
Well, I thought I'd ignore that for now and see what it was all about. I started the "easy mode", but I got bored so quickly, that I couldn't even finish the full 60 minutes. On the one hand, the tutorial is way too long, but on the other hand, it leaves so many questions. I had a hard time finding my way. And I really don't have the time to sit for hours watching a tutorial - that's what it felt like, even though the game thinks you're already playing.
Might be a nice little game for more or less experienced simulation players, but unfortunately, not for me!
Well, I have to say I'm kind of sorry I bought this game. The graphics are lovely (apart from the cutscenes - I really dislike clunky 3D-characers) and the game promised oh-so-much, but unfortunately, I didn't find it very well executed.
For one, the story didn't grip me one bit. It was very poorly introduced (it made me think I might have missed something in the beginning) and it didn't get better during play. I'm still confused as to who is who. I also didn't feel a connection to the "detective" (me!!!) or any of the characters.
If gameplay is good, that usually doesn't bother me all that much, but I didn't find the play very interesting. At first, I thought I was going to be able to explore and got excited seeing all those different paths one was able to take, but it was a very linear game after all, meaning it's impossible to do things in a different order than intended by the developers. There was also too much unnecessary backtracking involved. There was a map showing you where there were unfinished tasks - but it didn't take you to the desired location. What's the point?
Gameplay was also very repetitive and sometimes, I felt downright bored, because everything followed the same pattern. My largest complaint: the developers missed the chance for creating mini-games! There were a few times, when opening a lock or similar, that I fully expected to play a mini-game, but the lock simply opened! There was one door, for example, where you had to collect bunches of grapes and put them on weights - this screams mini-game! But nothing. Overall, the mini-games were pretty easy; almost too easy - and I played in expert mode! Generally speaking, there were a lot of these missed opportunities in the whole game.
Once in a while you also got to pick up buildings for a 3D-map - still have no idea what that was about; nothing happened when I finished it!
Well, the length was good at least. A few easy hidden object scenes, but beautifully drawn - I felt myself longing for more of these while playing. Some were a little interactive - more of that would have been very nice. Nothing there, unfortunately, that will make me want to keep this game on my hard drive; it just gives me the option to play through the whole thing again. No trophies or collectibles, no goals. I'll probably do replay one day, but not in the near future! So, I do suggest you try before you buy! I'd wait for it to become a Daily Deal, though ...
