So, I own almost all these games, both Jewel Match 3 and Solitaires, and in my humble opinion, they are the very best in their genres. Somehow though, I cannot make myself finish this one. I think the major problem for me are the "builds". Your gameplay is specifically to build castles and the interiors, and this game is one of the worst. The build is ugly and boring, nothing to look forward to. The interiors take forever, but only because you are putting in pairs of everything. This is a cop out, boring and ugly. No fun at all. And since you are playing the game to build your builds, there is nothing to look forward to. In comparison, look at the "Origins" games, or my very favorite Jewel Match Winter Wonderland 2 , which is very beautiful, and a great deal of fun.
Everything in this game feels bland, but don't get me wrong, the gameplay is still stellar, all the usual fun. I do not remember any specific upgrades in this version, but these games are the best in gameplay. They just fell down with the specifics. Even the match 3 items feel dull lol. At least they enlarged them though; prev 2 versions graphics were half the size.
And for the person who did not understand fishnets, and could not figure out how to free the key...actually read the tutorial, it is 13+pages long, explains everything. Specifically, usually the key/maze is accompanied by a directional change thingy, and you just match 3 around the thingy in the direction you want pieces to fall, which moves the key thru the maze in the same direction. Just try not to break the wall of the maze, if possible, because then pieces fall into the maze and obstruct, you have to start again. Fishnets work well 2 ways: you can use them to move other pieces just click fishnet piece then pull it where you want it to go (you can use it to position arrows and bombs this way), and you can line them up 5 in a row to make arrows to blow things apart. They are very handy once you understand that they are a cheat for you. There is also a type of maze that you have to use fishnet pieces to move the key to the bottom--just grab fishnets with mouse and pull them towards the key opposite to the direction you want it(one square at a time) to move-if you want key to move down, use fishnet piece from underneath it and pull it upwards towards key and vice versa. It is actually very simple, once you know ;) .
I can still recommend the game, but buy it on deep discount. it is not as thoughtfully made made as others made by same developer.
I recommend this game!

I love all the Jewel Match Solitaires (and adore the Match games, esp Winter Wonderland 2, my very fav), but this one was especially good for several reasons. The creators try hard to upgrade your gameplay with each release (both with solitaire and match 3), which rarely happens with other games these days.
1. They took away the mahjong, replacing it with a rank and suit game, which i like better than all of them!
2. Somehow they fixed the "super" solitaire so it is not so tedious...prev versions were tedious one card at a time play with no runs, requiring re deals to finish, so very boring; this one seems better organized.
3. They also kept the payout in gold for any unplayed cards in your deck, even in all the side games, which helps to shop upgrades faster, so yay; prev versions either had no payout in gold, or just in the regular solitaire game, no where else.
4. Also new, you get wild cards/jokers (once you shop them) in all the side games as well as the basic solitaire, so they replace faster. also yay, because the solitaire games seem to get harder in this version and I needed those extra cards.
5. Also, in the Challenge card game, there are new challenges this version. like breaking several chains or ice cards at once for example.
The negatives, what few there are, are just my own personal quirks...I'm getting to be an old lady, and the super sharp graphics literally hurt my eyes...had to play around with deck backs to tamp the effects. I had no problem with "flying cards" other people complained about, but cards do move fast in game play. What I dislike is:
-how long the time reset is between the end of each game and the return to the map, esp in the side games...it is so long sometimes i start to think it is glitching (like the unfortunate last Aquascapes solitaire that had so many issues).
-Also not really fond of new way of shopping, now cannot remember if it is this game or winterscape 2 solitaire, but there is no bonus level shop, so it feels like you got no reason to accumulate gold; I wish they had something to "spend" it on, something to shoot for in the bonus half of the game. I reached all my upgrades in the regular game play.
-the mansion builds are less clear, less pretty, smaller pieces and less distinct, weirdly blurry...I have ALL of these games, and when I compare the builds from this game to even the last aquascapes, there is a drop in quality. Now I do not really care, cuz I find them pointless (I like the match 3 Winter wonderland 2 because you get to decorate inside not just build outsides, but even that quality fell in the next Camelot game), I wish they were more interactive somehow...like picking a facade or something personalizing. Or just more xmas lights lol
Bottom line, this is one of the few games where you actually get your collectors edition money's worth, and you can replay to your heart's content. It is, in comparison to other solitaire type games, a tremendous amount of game play and variation. Buy it, it is great!
I recommend this game!

I cannot help comparing this game to all the others in this series...and this one does not come close. It is boring and lackluster. Beyond the christmasy characters and setting, there is very little magic or sparkle or humor. Go back and play The Nutcracker, Tin Soldier, Puss in Boots etc...you will see what I mean. Those were gorgeous games, full of thought and magic. I could not finish, I was so bored. Mostly there is nothing really wrong with game play, just boring story, clunks along like a bad cartoon. No real attempt at cohesion or reason. Boring.
I don't recommend this game.

This review is based on the demo, and i could not make myself finish. I have not come back to this site for a while because of the less than average games. I thought maybe they would all put more effort into Christmas releases, but I was wrong. It is a boring game, made for a child, but so were the older titles that we all loved. There is no sparkle, no magic, no humor, no nothing. Not worth my time or money. Save your pennies, or go buy the older ones(before 2020) like (Christmas Stories)The Nutcracker, Tin Soldier, Puss in Boots etc...where oh where has the magic gone...
I don't recommend this game.

Ok. I bought and liked the first one, and that is why I bought the second. However, gameplay, despite different items in each scene, is in exactly the same locations(except one), so it feels very repetitive, especially when I played the first game over, to remember the story. I also noticed stuttering movement, characters shaking, slow clicking, and more than once got kicked out and had to restart. And most annoying, the story does not really advance, and then ends abruptly, nothing is settled or explained. It left me with a question mark over my head feeling like I missed something. This was a money grab, if you ask me, and I am kinda sorry I bought it. Is it an ok game? Yes, but I played it mostly for the story, and that was disappointing.
I don't recommend this game.

OMG, so many emblems. Felt like every single item. More cliche uses of wells, beehives, animals to scare (and, if you are really going to use an airhorn to scare off a skunk, you are going to get a face full of stink, just saying), and that is just in the first scene. Sure, graphics are good, but the game is inane. I like this series, really wanted to buy it, want to find out what happens to Rick, but this is somewhat torturous. Not fun by any stretch, but good for insomnia. Also, I continue to have sound for music and effects but not for any voices, on 2 different computers, for all of this developer's games.
So, if repetition is your thing, emblems thrill you, and cliche game play is your thing, go for it. But for me, sadly, it is yet another no.
I don't recommend this game.

This game is the equivalent of turning off all the helpers you have in a HOPA, not a sparkle or a cursor hint to be found. So if you enjoy passing your cursor over every inch of the scene over and over, clicking over and over, this is for you. The game itself is not intuitive, you perform a great deal of random tasks that have very little to do with the game proper. I spent a stupid amount of time finding three coins, but didn't know why, and catching a fish to get a ring to...what??? Completely inane. Sorry, but I like my games to have a point. Several reviews stated that there are innovative HOPs, but to me none of it was new. I actually found the scenes to be kind of muddy and blurry right where it counts. Even though there are lots of details, they are not always clear. You spend a great deal of the demo wondering what the point of the game is. It is simply tedious tasks, for no apparent purpose. The game itself plays like it was made 10 years ago, when the series first started, and I do not, as one reviewer stated, think it is a good game for family, as children would be bored spitless. There is nothing charming or engaging here, and while I only played part of the demo, isn't that where they should try to entice you in??
I have recently replayed many of my older games from big fish and I can confidently say that in comparison this game is not innovative, not fun, not new, not exciting, and is indeed a throwback to games I never enjoyed. It is yet another developer doing very little to try to get a buck out of us. With all the advances in graphics, animation and gaming, surely somebody can just make a decent HOPA or two for this new decade. Please?
I don't recommend this game.

ARRRGG! I think these guys having been taking lessons from Domini, whose games I no longer even demo/review as they are a waste of my time, maybe gonna add Grandma too. No idea why the five stars. From the done to death storyline (literally) of bride/groom being terrorized by previous unhappy woman, the over used tasks (scaring crows, bees, oiling things etc...all in first 10 minutes) to the fuzzy edged hard to see HOs (can you make the objects to find in each scene any smaller?), this is an irritating, boring game. In comparison to the last few games from Friendly Fox, this is a real dud. I could barely wait for the demo to end, no I will not buy such dreck, I will not encourage them...New gamers, go check out older Mad Head and Eipix games, then you will know just how bad this really is!
I don't recommend this game.

Well done game, engaging storyline, a couple of "you pick" directions to the story, so that makes it a bit more fun. Still many standards used in the game, but done in an interesting way. Bonus game related to the story, also fun, but felt short for some reason. Everything was well done, but for me not quite a 5 star game, there were a few places where I thought they could have done better (gameplay was easy, bit simple, how come we couldn't pick not to marry at all eh?). I enjoyed the game, will definitely replay to see if picking different gives different story. Buy it, its good!
I recommend this game!

Another solid game, not a 5 star for sure, but playable without irritation. They have reused the "owl people" from another game, so the storyline seems vary familiar (cannot remember name of the game), so it is not new. They do use some of the old standards, but it is still fun enough that I did not feel cheated (much). It kept me interested enough to finish the game, and I played it in one sitting, so it kept me engaged. It is not a difficult game, but I skip many puzzles (puzzle box that you have to slide, ones that several move when you move one etc, hate them) but there is a good amount of puzzles and HO. Decent game, good length, good, but not fantastic.
I recommend this game!
