This is the 3rd installment of New York Mysteries and Laura James is back to solve another chilling murder mystery complete with Zombies and the Grim Reaper. It's worth noting that this game has many more hours of gameplay than most Eipix adventures. I thought the story was original and a wonderful departure from some of the titles recently launched in 2016. I think overall this edition does deserve a 4/5 star rating, but something is missing... Going back and playing the previous games, Secrets of the Mafia and High Voltage I noticed that the Eipix opener was missing from these editions because they were created by a different developer. I realize the purpose of reviewing games is to give your own objective perspective about the game title you are rating but this is a series. There are elements of this edition that don't measure up to the previous ones. I think the Artwork, the VO's, the Sound/SFX, and the Cut Scenes suffered as a result of the change. One major redeeming factor for me is that the series is always set in the 1950's and Lantern of Souls does make you feel you are in that era. I hope the saga continues and I hope the development team reaches the level of detail fans remember from playing the earlier editions. I do recommend this adult theme adventure for players of every level.
This is a really good edition to the Danse Macabre Series and you probably know that if it is the Danse Macabre series, it is going to be intense! And it very well is in the new release, Danse Macabre: Lethal Letters Collector/Standard Edition. The story of this game is very interesting and dramatic. You have mystery, you have love, and you have a lot of puzzles here! You are called in as an expert on hypnosis to help the count and his fiancee. The story revolves around Irina, a prima balerina. She's been having strange black outs. The things she does during those black out are very strange, like shooting her own beloved. As you can guess there is hypnosis involved, which will help you find out who is behind it all and more inmoptantly why. The story is interesting and the audio-visuals used to deliver it to you are excellent. The graphics are crist and detailed, the characters are realistic. There are little things from Russian culture scattered across the game (even though most of the scenes look quite generic for the genre). What was supposed to be an easy case turned into a very dangerous race for the truth. The game will keep you on your toes. It is heavier on the puzzles rather than the hidden object scenes. The puzzles come in different forms and shapes, as well as difficulty levels, some of the best I have played in a long time. The HOP scenes are ususally multi-step ones. There a few mini hidden object scenes. If you get tired of them you can play a match-3 instead. There are four levels of difficulty including the customizable one. They are presented as Matryoshki, the stacking dolls. The skip and hint are adjustable. There is a map and a strategy guide for your convenience. There are 76 collectibles and 13 achievements. 26 puzzles and 15 HOP scenes are re-playable. I think fans of this series are going to love this for their collection as much as I did. Thanks Big Fish for continuing this incredible series!!!
This awesome game tells a very touching and intriguing story of a couple that soon get involved into a dark magic curse and also many peoples' lives. Everything begins with the husband going to Wishville where any dream can come true. If you dare to pay the price... The price is to be paid to the mayor that promises to fulfil any dream. The trick is that even dying does not free you from the debt. When your husband didn't return for a few days after he's gone to settle his debt with the mayor, you set out to Wishville. This is when you discover about the strange roses killing the citizens. Not only that but you have to help some of the spirits kept in the town by theri debt. Helping them will help you understand what's going on in the town, where the curse came from, and how to help your husband avoing this terrible fate. The game's scenes are beautifully drawn with this sweet fairytale style for locations and characters. The music and voice overs are executed with excellence and fitting with the story. The game's four difficulty modes are Casual, Advanced, Expert, and Custom. You can adjust your hints (10-200 seconds) and skips (30-400 seconds). The hidden object scenes are different in their search types: lists, story type with BOLD letters, several of one kind of something, and placing back. A lot of what you know from the genre. The puzzles seem to be quite easy, so you might want to adjust the difficulty settings just a little bit up. There are collectible roses and morphing objects (25 of each). The challenge grows with 21 achievements in addition to the main game. The extras also include the usual media like wallpaper, music, art. The editor's choice merits more than 5 stars for this enchanting and unique fairy-tale like adventure. I think players of every level will enjoy this 4th installment of Living Legends. Beyond the 'Demo' is a fantastic journey that awaits. Enjoy!
I loved the latest installment of this series, but I am also huge fan of these kinds of games within the genre. As a detective you arrive to a local asylum on fire and you are immediately informed by a fire fighter that the fire seems supernatural and it is spreading across the city. What? Supernatural? Indeed it is! And you know it when you see a huge fiery arm hitting the ground with a fist. The fire is supernatural and seems to be mad. You get to see one of the patients at the asylum. Not everything seems to be quite normal in it. The note that you get from him before he is dragged into a water tank is important so you release him from the drowning tank. He then tells you that he is kept hostage in the asylum and needs your help. Ultimately you get deeper inside of it and meet all the ghostly characters (like coming to the surface of a bathtub saying everyone must die - creepy!) and discover ALL the secrets of the asylum. The game's graphics are executed well though a little more attention to sharpness could have been applied. Not too dark but not happily colorful either - just right for the creepy story. There are plenty of fiery effects in this game, that are quite impressive. The music and what the characters say is quite terrifying... it is best to play it home alone at night. You get to look for a great number of clues and inventory items as you are working on this mystery and all the patient abuse that was happening there. One thing is sure about the place - you never know what little things you can find there. And as you do that you will come across hidden object scenes and all kinds of puzzles. Progressing beyond 'Demo' you wonder who is the real protagonist in the adventure. When you first encounter Angelina Trench you see that something or someone has changed her into a ghost. She then eludes to being drowned when she yells at you " Everyone Must Go Swimming." Once you locate the medical charts in the Asylum you learn that Director Dr. Malfau and Head Nurse Betty have planned a diabolical scheme. The chart contains a log listing patients including Angelina Trench, Graham Dickens, Gwendolyn De Vere and Fiona O'Reilly. Malfau writes in the log Prisoners from the List " Outcast Patients" must not be Discharged from the Hospital. Their presence should be kept CONFIDENTIAL, even from OUTSIDE AUTHORITIES. What really happened to Angelina and the others, and what creepy motive does the Director and Head Nurse have for keeping them on lock down. Everyone is in for an incredible story as you progress thru this very unique game. The game features four modes: Casual, Advanced, Hardcore, and Custom with a few settings to adjust to your liking.
Media downloads include Achievements (Skills), More Hidden-object extras, mini-games, music, movies, wallpaper, Collectable marbles (36) 4 chapters and a bonus chapter.
To save your father from a strange sickness, you have to dive deep into an intricate crime case revolving around the kidnapping of a mysterious Beauty married to Puss in Boots. And this is only the beginning... Explore a magical city full of fairytale characters and their secrets and solve a wonderfully strange Hidden Object mystery! Your father, Sherlock Stiles, had been withering before your very eyes. I had heard of an elixir that can restore the strength of his youth, but its cost was much too high. When I took the case of the disappearance of the wife of Puss in Boots, I planned to fetch a good sum from it. The greed of my feline client was known throughout the city, but I believed his promise of a “plentiful reward.” The whole affair began like an ordinary kidnapping. Who would have thought that this case would bring villains of all kinds and all ranks under the scrutiny of my magic magnifying glass? Or that I myself would end up at the center of a crisis? Immerse yourself in a world of intrigue and secrets in this dark and gloomy town full of magical inhabitants. Encounter winding alleyways, demonic traps, familiar characters, and mind-bending puzzles! I found this Adventure to be incredibly entertaining and super colorful. It's not a game for kids but you feel like one playing it. Players from beginners to experts will find hours of enjoyment with this little gem.
Mystery of Sargasso Sea is a LONG PLAYING adventure game for Hidden Object Enthusiasts. For an SE I give it a 4.5 rating. The intro cut scene captured my attention and after finishing the demo I knew I wanted to purchase or use a game credit. The graphics were good. Mainly pseudo-realism, the graphics could have been better but I was still enthusiastic enough to continue. Cut scenes remain the best visuals. The wind in the background is suitably ghost-like. The voiceovers were good, while I quite enjoyed the accents, some many not. We seem to have wandered into a ships’ graveyard, haunted by a ghost/Pirate who needs souls to feed the “Dark Stone” that rewards him with eternal life. We meet other ghosts who help in whatever ways they can. The story and game play running time is around 8 hours. The directives are linear and clear but you have to concentrate and remember places and inventory because you don't get the jump-map. I don't remember even seeing a map? As you progress thru the objectives you soon realize this is mainly a HOG game, very few puzzles. There is some adventure, but basically this is a save yourself and defeat evil story wrapped around a framework of HOPs. There are interactive lists, with some interesting activities, each visited twice. There is not much animation, which makes a game feel flat but if the developers had a bigger budget this could have been marketed as a Collector Editon. As I say, there are only a few puzzles so far, but there is a fair amount of (easy) adventures, finding a key, getting into safes, that sort of thing. My final verdict is that it's a wonderful game to spend many, many hours of casual game play. If your on the fence play the demo. The story is original and I look forward to more from this developer. Give it a try, players of every level can enjoy this one!
Welcome to Heart Island Estate in Tales of Terror 3. Its a pretty dangerous place, since year 1904 when its last owner died, and no one has been able to leave this estate alive??? And now Margie Nolan (you), your father Arthur Nolan and your friend Jesse Howards dare to enter these cursed walls. Arthur believes everything could be explained by science, even when he sees a ghost in front of him. Jesse is a writer who is planning to create a masterpiece about the spirits of the dead using materials you will gather, specifically a small TV device that shows all ghostly presence thru a green filter. With in minutes of game play all three of you become separated from each other when the ghost of Luisa Heart sweeps past you and enters Heart Island Estate. You already know the preface of the story in the opening cut-scene where deceased owner Bertram Heart has created an obscure device that restores "Life force" to his wife Luisa, who's life is fading fast from a mysterious illness. Jesse is captured by ominous machine tentacles like those things in H.G. Wells War of the Worlds, and your father is lost in the estate when one of the houses rooms becomes a carousel of passage ways and you have to zip line your way into another part of the mansion via window if you want to save everyone and learn more of what secrets await you in the rest of the estate...I enjoyed every moment of gameplay, the visual style the developers created is unique, and the VO's and sound/SFX are excellent! Some of the special effects in the game are unlike any game I have every played. This adventure offers game players of every level a WILD RIDE throughout the entire story. The bonus chapter adds answers left from the main game. I highly recommend you experience this for yourself! CE bling includes:
● Relive the Heart Estate’s tragic past in the bonus chapter! ● Find heart collectibles hidden throughout the game! ● Spot morphing objects during the hidden-object puzzles ● Earn achievements ● Get beautiful wallpapers, soundtracks, and concept art

ERS Shadow Wolf Mysteries 5: Curse of Wolfhill is a great addition to the series. The series in general tells a story of a special wolf curse in a family. You really need to check out the entire series if you are not familiar with it. In this particular game, you and your father are forced to go back to the very place you ran away from years ago. Your cousin is in trouble, and you know it because he had sent your family's symbol. This means that you are going to face the wolf curse 'werewolves!' that you'd been trying to avoid. It is a very dark and dramatic story, but it is also very interesting, ingaging, and addictive. The audio-visuals create an absolutely matching atmosphere for the story. They are mostly grey and blue but the story isn't a happy one either. These great quality graphics and music are part of the downloadable media extras. There is a bonus game with its own story for you are discover. I REALLY liked the bonus game story. The game has four levels, one of which is custom. You can adjust things like hint recharge "5-200 seconds" and punishment for clicking there. 17 hidden object scenes and 12 puzzles are re-playable. You get a strategy guide and a map. The game is very interactive as you proceed with the story. There is a lot of inventory to pick up and use elsewhere. The puzzles are interesting and can be hard or as easy as you want. You can set the difficulty level according to your skills in the settings. The hidden object scenes come in all known types of searches. You get lists, silhouettes, matching etc... Collectibles and achievements make the game more fun and add a little extra challenge. The SE version doesn't give you the bonus game which is related to the main story. For some this is a deciding factor on which to choose. A four wolf powers make the game really cool especially for the werewolves fans. This edition isn't necessarily my favorite but it holds its own with respect to all the previous editions. Here are the others in the order that I remember playing. Enjoy!
*Curse of the Full Moon *Bane of the Family *Cursed Wedding *Under the Crimson Moon *Tracks of Terror (Editors choice award) *Curse of Wolfhill
Your grandma always told you stories about New Orleans, about vampires, magic and ghosts, and now you are finally here! Your journey begins at the Terminal Station of New Orleans and will lead you to the most beautiful and creepiest places in the city. While photographing the infamous house of the Carter brothers, you learn that they are serial murderers who were captured after their fifteenth victim Beatrice Lefort escaped from their home. During an initial visit to the home you saw the Carter brother ghosts nearby, and photographed what you saw with your camera. This camera will prove to be very helpful when you develop the film in your hotel room each time you take a photo. As you begin to follow clues left by them, you have an opportunity to meet and question Beatrice. She gives you an Amulet and tells you to pursue what your looking for at the Saint Louis Cemetery. You arrive at the cemetery and briefly speak to the grounds keeper, who gives you a map to the Carter brothers tomb. You discover that their tomb has been destroyed and their bodies stolen. You proceed further into the cemetery where you open a secret crypt only to meet the Count Saint Germain, infamous Vampire of New Orleans. Are you ready to face such threat? What is the connection to The Count and the Carter brothers and how will you stop them? At this point your trial is over and the Horror adventure really begins to go Full Throttle. Explore the darkest corners of New Orleans and find out the REAL story of the Carter brothers while facing fierce vampires. This story is extremely well written with excellent voice overs complete with accents and perfect lip synch. I think mature players will be totally immersed in this latest edition to the Vampire Legends Series. The attention to detail and flawless graphics are pure eye candy and the puzzles range from easy to difficult as well as the hidden object scenes. I have a feeling this will be the last edition as a trilogy, I hope that I am wrong. I loved every moment of this click-and-point adventure. I highly recommend this one to fans of the Horror Genre! Enjoy every drop....
This edition Grim Tales 10: The Heir surpassed all my expectations with its captivating storyline and extraordinary gameplay. The Hidden object scenes and puzzles were executed with tremendous attention to detail and design, but it was the use of inventory items and progression of the story that was most challenging for me. Like the description in the intro you're cast in the role of Aunt Gray and you've been called to the Gray's Castle to help your nephew Brandon. His son is missing, and his wife's fallen into a mysterious coma! It's up to you to discover what dark forces are at play in your family's castle. The past and present collide as you look for answers. Once you reach the end of the demo (where you try to use the tranquilizer gun on Brandon) the excitement goes full throttle and you learn a 'Family Secret' that compels you to continue playing without even a bathroom break...LOL. One of the features of this edition I enjoyed about the game is you travel back and forth to the past, present and future. There are no hallways with doors lined up to go through. The transport map is there for each "time" but you never had to click on the map to view the present, past or future. The items you collected in whatever "time" you were in always stayed with you. Voice acting and Sound/SFX were fantastic and so are the graphics, even if a bit dark with tiny inventory items. Aunt Gray also discovers a new talent to her supernatural abilities, but to elaborate would be considered a 'REVIEW SPOILER'. I really hope these developers continue with this level of quality with their other series, this epic adventure deserves more than just 5 stars... Enjoy!
