fromParanormal Files: The Trap of Truth's production values might not be up to the studio's usual high standards, but the game is very entertaining in its own right!
Elephant Games is slowly, but surely building the Paranormal Files series to become another one of their flagship franchises. In this latest installment, follow the now-famous Rick Rogers as he is welcomed into a new social circle of paranormal friends. But his hopes for a stable period in his life comes crashing down when he learns the lies and the ugly secrets of his friends…
In more ways than one, the storyline in Paranormal Files: The Trap of Truth is quite great. The moral dilemma of truth versus lie is definitely interesting, the characters are distinctive, and the backstory is rich. The storyline is also smartly intertwined with the gameplay, so it is not plainly delivered via dialogues and cutscenes, but through gameplay elements as well.
Sure, for the most part, the gameplay here does not go much beyond the typical HOPA mold. However, there is also plenty to admire. The adventure part of the game might play it relatively safe, but the hidden object scenes and the puzzles offset that with an abundance of creative ideas and clever designs. The puzzles may not the most challenging for some players, but I thought they were extremely fun to play.
From Mystery Trackers to Hidden Hotel, Elephant Games knows their way around stunning visuals. Unfortunately, that does not fully translate here. Although the artwork and the graphics quality are impressive, the cutscenes and the animations are a bit unpolished, and distract from the immersive experience of the game.
Should you choose the SE or CE?
I think Paranormal Files: The Trap of Truth is still a really great edition to this popular series and it is worth purchasing the Collector’s Edition, if you can get it at a DISCOUNTED PRICE. So, because it was on sale I chose the Collector's edition. The CE bonus content includes the usual bling: a bonus chapter, a strategy guide, wallpapers, a screensaver, soundtracks, replayable hidden object scenes, replayable puzzles, achievements, collectibles, morphing objects, and a secret room. Cheers!

A stranger’s request brings you to the capital of Hungary to investigate a series of nightmarish attacks. You are then joined by Agatha, a curious partner who provides you with necessary local insights. Are these attacks instigated by a vengeful vampire or do lead to something much more sinister? Find out in in the latest installment of this unique series, Dark City: Budapest!
The talented folks at Friendly Fox (formerly 4 Friends Games) are best known for their fantasy extravaganzas, from the enchanting Living Legends series to the imaginative Bridge to Another World games. However, for the past four Dark City gams, the studio has proven to me that they are equally adept at handling darker subject matters in these intriguing, investigative adventures. In Dark City: Budapest, you get to roam the haunting and beautiful streets and alleys of Budapest, propelled by a suspenseful storyline and a set of well-developed characters.
Dark City: Budapest clearly tries to avoid the pitfalls of a cookie-cutter hidden object game, to debatable success. On one hand, the hidden object scenes and the puzzles are quite creative and cleverly integrated into the storyline. The evidence board is also a nice addition and smartly utilized, as far as HOPA gadgets go. On the other hand, for expert HOPA players, there is minimal challenge offered as well as nothing truly outstanding that is novel for the genre (IMHO).
Whether you enjoy the gameplay or not, there is no denying the beauty of Dark City: Budapest. Every scene is precisely and sophisticatedly crafted in such a fashion that the city of Budapest feels like another character in the game. This level of attention to detail is also carried over to other production aspects, such as cutscenes, soundtracks, plus voice-overs and I really appreciate these details.
Dark City: Budapest has a decent length....it took me about four and a half hours to complete the entire game and I really enjoyed ever moment from beginning to end. Cheers!

Over the years, Whispered Secrets has slowly but surely become one of my HOPA favorite series. In each Whispered Secrets story, GrandMA Studios expertly crafts a beautifully haunting tale of drama and tragedy, which is often backed by the studio’s signature creative game mechanics and stellar production and this edition, Whispered Secrets 12: Morbid Obsession is an EXCELLENT example why I really love this series!
Right from the beginning, Whispered Secrets: Morbid Obsession hooks you in with its captivating gameplay. The game’s fast and consistent pacing adds a sense of urgency that is then magnified by its memorable villain Curioso and his obsession for collecting souls. During your investigation you must match wits against Curioso to help several obsessed Collector's redeem themselves from the terrible decisions they have made or Curioso will keep their souls for his own obsessed desire; which is to keep these Collector's trapped in his mansion forever!
Another fascinating element to this story is that rarely ever in the world of HOPA is the player allowed to directly control the direction of the storyline. In the past, we have gotten multiple games in which we can select our response to certain conversational questions, but whichever choice we choose often leads to the same outcome. However, this game really allows your selection to affect the outcome. This not only makes the game even more engaging and adds to its complexity, but amps up its replayability as well. This, combined with some stellar hidden object scenes and enjoyable puzzles turns Whispered Secrets: Morbid Obsession into a supremely entertaining psychological adventure full of creativity and quirky objectives.
Whispered Secrets: Morbid Obsession would not have been this effective if not for its outstanding production. The game’s gothic color scheme is balanced out by some bright, eye-popping details. Each visual element is meticulously designed with expertise and care, which is evident through the highly-detailed artwork, precise and creative scene layout, and bar-raising animations. Similarly, the game also excels in the audio department. From the sound effects to the background music and the voice-overs – all components are simply flawless.
Should you chose the SE or CE Edition?
Whether Whispered Secrets: Morbid Obsession is worth the Collector’s Edition purchase and should not even be a question since it is probably one of the very best games of 2020. Firstly, you can replay the game for a different outcome as previously mentioned. Furthermore, there is also a bonus chapter that is just as exciting as the main game, along with a mini-size hidden chapter. Lastly, there is a good deal of traditional bonus items, including a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, soundtracks, cutscenes, replayable hidden object scenes, replayable mini-games, achievements, collectibles, and morphing objects. I highly recommend this game to players of every level. Cheers!

You play the role of Dylan in this episode and the Grim Reaper is ready to to offer him a deal but first he must save three of his close friends; Roy, Grace and Ted. Each of them trapped in their own Death Defying Dilemma which the Grim Reaper has orchestrated. Can you save your friends and yourself before the Reaper claims your soul? Find out how to alter fate in this frightfully fun Halloween Story, Defying Death.... After the year-to-year success of the Halloween Stories series, Elephant Games has created another excellent edition to their holiday-themed series. The storyline is thoroughly entertaining and the unexpected twists distinguishes it from all the other Halloween theme games out there. I also love the classic jump-scares and spooky-looking decorations that appear throughout the game. Halloween Stories: Invitation (the first game in the series) is my personal favorite but I enjoyed this game equally as much as the first installment so I highly recommend you play both. If you are new to the series then play all them. You can binge play each of them and indulge yourself which will really put you in the mood for celebrating Halloween or Spooky themed games.Cheers!
Series in Order: Halloween Stories: Invitation Halloween Stories: Black Book Halloween Stories: Horror Movie Halloween Stories: Defying Death
Fairy Godmother is back for her third adventure in Fairy Godmother Stories: Little Red Riding Hood. Domini Games need a reality check with regard to this edition. Why make a children's game ( that's too difficult for them to play) created for Adults (that will interrupt this as too juvenile to even WANT to play it) I just don't understand their reason for doing this??? Furthermore this game suffers from lack of innovation with regard to its gameplay. The adventure portion of the game is incredibly straightforward, doesn't remotely incorporate "Out of the box thinking" and leaves the player wondering "What demographic are they making this for"? . Also, even though this game has a massive volume of tasks to be completed, they are all cookie-cutter tasks that recycle a lot of the same-old HOPA tropes. Most tasks make logical sense given the context of the game, but there is also a handful of silly, out-of-place ones, including the totally unnecessary Magic Wand gadget. Domini Games exercise more creative control with the hidden object scenes and the puzzles and introduce a slew of neat ideas, but not nearly enough to save the game from being just another indistinguishable entry in the Domini crank them out as fast as you can make them machine. Whether it be Labyrinths of the World or Dark Romance, Domini Games’ signature colorful visuals are always present. Fairy Godmother Stories: Little Red riding Hood fits right into the studio’s neon-colored portfolio. As a fantasy-themed game, Domini Games CAN DEFINITELY AFFORD to experiment more with its visuals and graphic, which it does so occasionally (yes occasionally). The audio components are this games saving grace in bringing the game to life, from soundtracking the game’s magical landscapes to inserting personality into the characters. As for the voice over and text reading, I wish they wouldn't require us to hit "continue". Just let the character say what they need to say and give us the option to skip if we're "over it". Accept my apologize if my review reads more like a rant...but I just don't understand? And for the record, I'm a big fan of Domini Games too!
Should you choose SE or CE (I chose *CE)
This edition has a standard length of just under four hours, plus an extra hour from the *bonus chapter *which does offer answer to questions missing from the main game. The Collector’s Edition is filled to the brim with extra items; a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, soundtracks, videos, replayable hidden object scenes, replayable puzzles, achievements, collectibles, and morphing objects that can be purchased. Cheers!

Anna Gray’s sister-in-law Maureen Black reaches out to you for help when she woke up one day and saw the newspaper headlines depicting her own death! With the help of your daughter Alice Gray, you need to travel through time and stop a dangerous criminal from the future in Grim Tales: Heritage...
With nineteen games in, the Grim Tales family saga unavoidably starts to get old. The drama becomes less interesting and the story development is all too predictable. While in Grim Tales: Heritage, Richard, who was a constant in all the recent sequels, is not present (which was a mistake in my opinion) – the time-traveling aspect still remains. Most fans of this best-selling hidden object series will probably still enjoy interacting with familiar characters, but for players who are not incredibly invested in the shenanigans of the Gray family in this installment, there is simply no other way to describe it other than it was a boring game.
Production wise, Grim Tales: Heritage is super solid. However, it is no match to many of Elephant Games‘ previous works. The graphics are sophisticated as usual, with beautiful details and sharp quality. It is only that the animations and the cutscenes look a little rough, unfinished, and low-budget as if the developer completed them as an afterthought.
Grim Tales: Heritage follows the HOPA formula to a T. The gameplay lacks innovation and challenge – hidden object fans can probably complete this game in their sleep. Luckily, the hidden object scenes come in a variety of formats and the puzzles offer some nice twists, so at least the game is not devoid of all the fun. I think Elephant developers made this installment with beginner - intermediate players in mind.
As expected, Grim Tales: Heritage is offered as a Collector’s Edition, which comes with all the standard features and nothing more. The bonus chapter is around 45-minute long and brings the total length of the game to slightly over four hours. Other CE bling includes a bonus chapter, a strategy guide, wallpapers, screensavers, soundtracks, achievements, collectibles, morphing objects, a jigsaw puzzle, plus an Archives with replayable hidden object scenes and replayable mini-games.
Conclusion: I would just like to add that I really enjoy this series but Grim Tales: Heritage is mediocre in every sense of the word and Elephant needs to step up their game with the following: A more creative and compelling story, enhanced graphics for cut-scenes, and more innovative HOP's and Puzzles. If they implement these changes then I will definitely look forward the next Grim Tales game!
Other games in this series include:
Grim Tales: The Bride Grim Tales: The Legacy Grim Tales: The Wishes Grim Tales: The Stone Queen Grim Tales: Bloody Mary Grim Tales: The Vengeance Grim Tales: Color of Fright Grim Tales: The Final Suspect Grim Tales: Threads of Destiny Grim Tales: The Heir Grim Tales: Crimson Hollow Grim Tales: Graywitch Grim Tales: The White Lady Grim Tales: The Time Traveler Grim Tales: The Hunger Grim Tales: Guest From The Future Grim Tales: Heritage
I predict this years annual Halloween Chronicles edition will be met with "thundering applause"...it really does deserve Editor's Choice award without hesitation or pause! Domini Games exceeding my expectations with this latest edition, most likely destined to become a "Fan Favorite". It's also a fun-filled mystery full of your favorite iconic characters including: Vampires, Ghosts, Witches, and even a talking Jack-o-lantern!
So if you're itching for some excitement then journey to Scratchtown to help Uncle Pierre and his relatives fight for their lives against these creepy characters including the villainous Vampire Walter. (Walter? LOL...I had to laugh when I learned his name was Walter...out of all the notorious names for Vampires they chose Walter)!
Last years Halloween Chronicles: Evil Behind A Mask was released to much fanfare. This year, Domini Games is back to deliver another playful Halloween gem. On the storyline front, Halloween Chronicles: Cursed Family is exactly what I needed to start off the Halloween Holiday. The storyline is definitely something that has been refreshed and revamped in the right direction for the HOPA genre and the game progression is definitely less predictable this time around. Also, it is the cleverly creative Halloween-themed elements that make the game a step above the generic!
Each scene is filled to the brim with playful thematic elements and decorative pieces, some of which you can interact with. The fantastic graphics and special effects work in conjunction to offer an immersive and fun Halloween gaming experience. Even Domini Games’ signature saturated colors are not distracting in this context. Instead, they give the game a more suspenseful and creepy vibe, preventing it from being a totally childish game. In the audio department, the campy music and sound effects are flawless and the voice-overs are perfect too.
When it comes to the gameplay, Halloween Chronicles: Cursed Family is comparable to Elephant Games’ new Halloween release Halloween Stories: Defying Death. While I enjoyed both games Elephant's Defying Death did not fully realize it's full potential by featuring mundane adventure gameplay elements and cookie-cutter puzzles. I personally found Halloween Chronicles: Cursed Family the more enjoyable one of the two, mainly due to its highly imaginative hidden object scenes and full-on commitment to the festive Halloween theme!
For me Halloween Chronicles: Cursed Family was a relatively long game, clocking in around the six and a half hours mark. The bonus chapter also adds another hour to the game’s length. The Collector’s Edition also includes wallpapers, concept art, soundtracks, videos, replayable hidden object scenes, replayable puzzles, achievements, collectibles, a trophy room, and morphing objects. Cheers and Happy Halloween!

This is Edition #7 of the Edge of Reality Series and the storyline is an entertaining mix of fantasy, modern-day elements and great game play. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this latest edition from start to finish and would also add that this game is equal to or better than Edge of Reality: Fatal Luck (which is my personal favorite) which was launched in 2018. Personally, as far as the Edge of Reality series goes, none of the sequels have yet to top Edge of Reality: Fatal Luck for me until this latest installment! When I began playing Call of the Hills, I was somewhat confused because in the opening I saw Friendly Fox was the developer and all the previous installments were developed by 4 Friends Game developers.. That doesn't really matter because this game still has the look and gameplay elements we've all grown to love from 4 Friends development team only better! Maybe they needed a change or collaborated with Friendly Fox? With respect to the Gameplay and Story The core Gameplay is familiar but the Story is intriguing, fresh and new. Also there are enough interesting hidden object scenes and puzzles to hold the attention of even the most seasoned HOPA players even though the game was created for Beginner-Intermediate players . The game also features an array of non-tasks-related interactive elements in the scenes, which are really quite fun to explore. Also the glasses gadget, that allows the protagonist talk to animals (which have always been a part of the previous games) has been replace with an Irish Setter dog helper / companion. I thought that was an excellent idea and the glasses needed to be retired anyway because of over-usage. The other gadget is an Antique Amulet given to you by your Grandfather which you'll need for protection or else you'll never be able to help save your sister in the Hills of Ireland from a Sinister Villain! The intricate and colorful artwork, along with the flawless animations were enough to immerse me in the game but it was the Story that held my interest the most....it's a terrific story which may even make some players a little emotional (it was for me anyway). The traditional musical scores are really effective in creating a very lived-in world which makes you feel like your truly in Ireland and this game has some of the most stunning and detailed location designs I have seen in quite some time, there is just so much to marvel at in each location.
Should you chose SE or CE (I chose the CE).
So, if you like this series I highly recommend you play this one because it's better or equal to past editions and totally worth playing if your looking for a creative, casual game to play. I was able to complete the Collector's Edition main game in a little over 5 hours and another hour for the bonus chapter. Cheers!
