I have really been wracking my brains on how to post this. It started out so good and then either the quality of the game slipped or I got bored, which can go hand in hand. It's a good game and with a few tweaks it could be an awesome game.
Graphics were well done. Pretty much on the same scale as all of these in the series. I did enjoy the voice overs. There is a lot of the story in the cut scenes as well as in the hidden object games, so that sound is important. Effects went along with the action in the scene and the music wasn't intrusive.
I enjoyed the level of challenge to a point. The hidden objects were varied more so than in most games which I like. It wasn't all silhouette or list, but a mixture of those and stories with things to find in the drawings during those stories. Quite enjoyable. The mini games ran from simple to, what in the world do I do here! There is one about a column. I still don't know what I was suppose to do with that one. There were a couple that like that. I thought I understood, but when I started playing, nothing happened, except I hit the skip button after trying everything I could think of to accomplish the task. Some things didn't have any instructions at all. I just had to figure out what they were looking for. Those weren't major minis, but things that I had to do. Thankfully they weren't hard to figure out.
My biggest disappointment was in the map. Other than transporting you it is is worthless. Maybe I've become to accustomed to the map showing where things can be done, but not in this game. Reminders of when all the maps did were show locations and you had to remember where to go. It shows objectives, but that's no help if you haven't the foggiest idea where that someplace is to go to accomplish those objectives. I used my hint button in this game more than I have in many a game, just to figure out where to go. There are several degrees of difficulty and I played the custom so the hint and skip would charge faster.
The story got kind of convoluted along the way. It's a long game and maybe my mind started wondering, but it started off really good and had me hooked from the very beginning. However, as it progressed it didn't make too much sense. Even the ending left me somewhat wondering what I had just done. Not a horrible story, but there seemed to be a bit of the continuity lost along the way.
This is a great game and like always, I suggest you try the demo and decide for yourself. It is of a supernatural nature, but it was good enough for me to buy. Yes, I broke the promise to myself not to by anymore in the genre, but this game is worth it.
I have the complete Cadenza series, and to compare it to the others, this one is way below the standards set in the previous efforts. It was fun, but not like the others.
Graphics were well done and the music was okay. A lot of repeat sound tracks and you would think with a theme such as this there would have been a multitude of possibilities to play. It wasn't intrusive by any means, but just repetitious. I was expecting more and got less which led to my disappointment. Voice overs were well done and the effects, what there were of them, were also well done. The colors were bright and pleasant. My only complaint in this area was the reading. Things would come up to be read and there just wasn't enough time to read it before the words were gone. Missed a lot of those, and along with it part of the story.
I had problems with the mini games, which is no surprise. I don't like them, but these were over the top for me. A lot of repetition doing the same thing over and over again, with a little change in what you had to do. They did a great job hiding things in the hidden object scenes. So much so, that when I used the hint, I still couldn't see what I had gotten. Hidden objects were varied and that kept my interest. In some there was a list and after finding that list another would appear, then an interactive part where you had to put something into the scene. I sat at the first one trying to find the object listed only to find I had to put that lipstick cap on the open lipstick. My stupidity, but when I figured it out the process was simple.
The story is pretty easy to follow. You don't find out until the very end what caused all of this drama and how someone could steal another's body. It's well written and has a few surprises along the way. Others will go in depth about the story so I won't bore you with it here.
I have been waiting what seemed like an eternity for this to come out in SE. I don't do CE versions, and I have to say, had I not played the others in the series I would probably have been happier with this one. If you have played the others, then you're probably going to be very disappointed. If you haven't you'll enjoy this one much more. Just go into this as though it was a completely new series and not related to the others and you'll get along just fine. It's not a bad game... it's just very different in quality and content than the others.
I suppose this game has it pluses, but I'm hard pressed to find them. It's about the same thing we've been getting here lately, and I have totally lost interest in them. I really am looking for something that doesn't have witches, goblins, ghosts and all the rest of the supernatural elements this genre has to offer. I just did not find this game much fun at all.
The graphics were well done and the sound was excellent, especially the voiceovers. They were more natural than most. The music was not intrusive and the effects went along with the scene.
I liked the level of challenge this game offers. The hidden object scenes were varied and kept my interest and the mini games were to my liking..I'm not a big fan of mini games, but I was able to complete all the ones offered in this demo. So far as helpers, you have an interactive map which shows places where things can be done and transports. The only problem I had with the game, was you need to find pieces to a mosaic. It was indicating I needed 5 and it showed I had 4. When I was lost as to what to do I hit the hint and it took me to the mosaic and sure enough I had them all. I might have mislooked at the inventory, but I don't think so.
The worse part of this game was the story. It was about the same old stuff. Sister gets taken and turned into a monster along with the other musicians. Others will go more indepth about the story, but I will just say, enough is enough. I want something different.
Other than the story line, I suppose this would be an okay game. Not a buy for me, but you play the demo and decide for yourself.
Yes, my buddy Richard appears again. I don't know why I like him so much, but I do. I look forward to his entry to belittle Anna and the banter between father and daughter is fun for me. Even though this is the same thing as so many games we have been offered, I did enjoy this one.
Graphics were well done. The sound, especially the music in this one, was really good. :The music went along with what was happening and I could actually feel my heart racing a bit as it rose. Voice overs were well done and the colors, while rather dark, were not too much so.
If I had more patience, I would have been able to complete the mini games. They aren't all that hard, just time consuming. It seemed like there were a lot of the, click this but it may effect others, type of games. I don't like those at all and maybe that's why I think there were so many of them. Hidden objects were extremely varied which I like and were about equal with the number of mini games. This was a well balanced game and much to my liking. So far as a helper, the interactive map is a treasure. It does show where there are things to do and transports. There are several degrees of difficulty, of which I chose custom so I could set the skip and hint buttons to the fastest time.
The story is much the same. Good old Richard comes to help Anna through her trials and tribulations as she tries to resurrect Victor an ancient ancestor. Others will go into the story in depth so I won't bore you. The story did catch me from the very beginning and kept my attention all the way through. I am a bit confused about something. I carried Victor's skull around the whole game, expecting to use it sometime along the way, but the game ended and he was still in my inventory. Just don't quite understand that, but hey, I don't develop these things, I just play them.
Even though this is full of ghosts and such and you may be as tired of that genre as I, give the demo a shot. I think you'll find it to your liking. I sure did.
Not really fascinated by this one. It was okay, but just not what I am looking for. I was a bit disappointed in the work from this developer. There work is usually very high quality, but this one fell somewhat short.
The graphics were fine. Colors were very good. While the voice overs were well done, the lip movements didn't quite match what was being said. Kind of like the old Godzilla movies. Music was not intrusive and the effects went along with the action in the scene.
There seemed to be more mini games than hidden objects. I'm not a big fan of minis, but with this game you can chose easy or hard which is a plus in my department. I did do several of the mini games, much to my surprise.Hidden objects were pretty simple, but they were varied and that is a good thing. So far as a help, there is an interactive map which does tell you where there are things to do and will transport you. You have four levels of difficulty. I chose the custom so I could set the hint and skip times to the quickest.
The story is about the same as we have been getting lately. Ghost is killing people, or helping them commit suicide. Probably a basis for a decent story, but not my cup of tea. It seemed lacking in something that I just can't put my finger on. Others will go more into detail about the story and I'll leave that to them.
All in all this is an okay game. Although it is not a buy for me, simply because of the genre doesn't mean you might not love it. Give the demo a try and see what you think.
This game simply was not fun to me in the slightest. I have an earlier version of this game, and it too was pretty juvenile, but this one is worse. I really do hate to do negative reviews, but I have to tell it like I see it.
I was amazed that the voice overs were so distorted. I don't think it's my computer, because it has played everything else just fine. From the very beginning it was like they were all speaking from a well. The lip movements were very well done and the music was okay. Effects went along with the action. Graphics were pretty well done. Looked hand drawn and movements were good.
I did like the challenge. I did all the mini games, except those that kept repeating about the same action for three or four times. Hidden objects were very well done. Good variation in type. These were the saving grace of this game. There is an interactive map which does show where there are things to do and transports. The only difficulty I had was it is so small. They crammed the whole story onto the map, which makes the details difficult to see. I liked the unique way they allowed you to select mode of play. Wish all games were like that.
The story is very much like the previous version. Others can go into it for you, but it was lack luster and pretty much the same as the others. It is a fairy tale and they can't be taken to seriously. Isa is back with all his tricks which in the demo are pretty weak.
The genre is about all we have been getting lately so it takes a superior game for me to buy. I might have made the purchase had it not been for the sound. I just cannot get over it.
Play the demo and perhaps you will have a better experience than I.
I guess I'm about the only one who doesn't care for this game. It could be I'm just not in the mood for something in this genre or it just didn't suit my fancy. I couldn't finish the demo.
For this dev, I was very disappointed in the sound. Voice overs were not well done at all and in this day and age, there really is no excuse for that. As one reviewer say, it was like watching an old Godzilla movie where the lips don't match the words. Graphics were okay. Colors were mostly pink and blue it seemed. The music was the best part of the this section. It went along with the action in the scene.
I did love the level of challenge. I hate mini games and this game offered an easy or hard choice. Taking the easy route, I was able to complete all the mini games. Hidden objects were varied, clear and enough of a challenge that they kept my interest. Only problem was they asked for things I had no idea what they were. It was click and pray there was something there. The interactive map was very helpful.
The story just did not grab me as much as I tried to get into it. Again, maybe I'm just tired of the supernatural and syfy games. Others will go into the story for you, but if I'm going to get into a story, it has to grab me from the beginning or I don't get into it at all This was the case here.
Although I didn't care for this, please play the demo and maybe you will get something more out of it than I.
I have most all of the Witch's Legacy games and this one takes a huge departure from the previous games. I was expecting auntie and the girl, and got something entirely different. Not a bad game, though I do miss the other characters. Jack just wasn't the same as Edward. After playing the demo, I almost didn't purchase it, but I'm glad I did.
Graphics were well done. A tad dark at times, but it's a witch's tale, what would you expect. The colors were bright and clear. Special effects were well done and the music went along with the action in the scene. The only problem I had with the sound were the voice overs. Jack just sounded ..... unreal ... staged I guess would be a good word for it.
I liked the challenge of the mini games. That's another way of saying the majority of them were easy. If you are a die-hard puzzle fan, you might find this one too simple for your taste. Several of the games came with no instruction, but they were easy to figure out what to do. Hidden objects were varied and kept me on my toes. I did like them a lot.
So far as helpers, there's Bertha the ferret, but she seems to have just come along for the ride. She isn't intrusive and at times is comical. There is a tremendous amount of jumping back and forth and the interactive map was a necessity for me. I would never have figured out where to go without it. There are several modes of play of which I chose custom for the fast hint and skip charge.
The story is pretty much the same as most in this genre. Mom is kidnapped by this witch and then the daughter disappears. It's Jack to the rescue. This is as much a fairy tale as it is a witch story. The other characters, like the biting chest and others were cute, but not really necessary for the story. Others will go into the story in more detail than I and you can get more information from their posts.
That's about it. Give the demo a try and see if this fits your game appetite.
I guess all good things must come to an end. This was a really great series. I have all of them, even some old enough they don't play on my computer anymore, but this one... it isn't going to join them. This one is for the "birds." Just lost the fun in the story and the game itself.
Graphics were fine. A bit on the dark and dreary side, but that goes along with the genre. I thought the sound, especially the voice overs were very well done and was the plus in this game. I didn't think Dupin was all that bad in appearance. He does look different, but I like a little stubble on a man. The music was good and the effects went along with what was happening in the scene.
I hated those mini games. I think I got though one or maybe two before I hit the skip button. Way beyond my patience and skill level. The hidden objects were fine, what there were of them. Not too many in the demo it seemed. So far as helpers, there are several modes of play, of which I chose the custom so I could set the skip and hint to the fastest setting. The interactive map was very helpful in getting around and knowing where there were things to do. Only difficulty I had was the inventory. Things were so small I had trouble seeing what was there.
There are others who will go into the story for you. It has been so many years since I read The Raven, I couldn't tell you if it followed the original story or not. When the demo ended the white raven had been unmasked, I think, and I do wonder what she had to do with everything. Was she the Lenore spoken of in the story? Don't know and never will.
Although this is not a buy for me, you play the demo and see it's something that tickles your fancy.
This is a pretty good game. I have several, if not all, in this series and this one was just a bit different, in a good way. As I recall the previous stories took place inside the hotels for the most part, but this one, after making an appearance there, went all over the place. Fun game. I swore I was done playing the ghosts and things that go bump in the night games, but after playing the demo I was hooked.
Graphics were very well done. It started off a bit dark, but it is a ghost story, what would you expect. Then the colors lightened up and were well done. The sound, especially the voice overs were excellent. I honestly do not remember the music being intrusive in anyway, so it must have been good too and the effects went along with the action in the scene.
While mini games are usually my downfall, I found these to my liking. Just challenging enough yet doable. If they were too involved, I just skipped them. Hidden objects were varied. This helped keep my interest and wanting more. There seemed to be more of the find the hidden duplicates in this one. I don't mind them, but there just seemed to be more of them than usual.
So far a help, you have the interactive map which normally shows where you have something to do and will transport you there. A few times, I used the map to find where I needed to go and couldn't find anything to do. I used the hint, and it took me someplace totally different. If it had happened once, I would assume I clicked the wrong place on the map, but it was a few times this happened. I'm stupid not dumb and I don't think I would make that mistake that many times. There are also several modes of play of which I chose the custom so I could set the hint and skip buttons to my liking... fast
The story was interesting. It was a bit different than the previous games and perhaps a bit darker. There are others who will tell you the story and Big Fish does a good job introducing you to the story. There was just one thing I couldn't figure out and that was the energy. You are murdered and your son kidnaped. As a ghost you have so much energy,, then it fades. In the beginning you collected something, whatever it was, and your energy returned so you could continue. Then I would be playing along and all of a sudden my energy was full again. Have no idea what that was about. Other than that it was a typical ghost story with a twist or two. I did enjoy it. The only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 4, was the genre. Even though I did enjoy the story, I really am tire of the ghosts, witches an goblins.
This is a darn good game. Play the demo and see if it doesn't hook you too. There's a reservation at the Hotel in your name.
