This is posted after playing the entire game.
I really enjoyed this game. I own most of this series and this one is the best by far. It was a joy to play. My only regret was not being able to play the whole game at one sitting, but the kids have to eat sometime.. :-)
Graphics and sound were excellent. Voice overs were very well done and the music went perfectly with the action in the scene.
I really enjoyed the level of challenge. The hidden objects were clear and yet well done. Some were relatively easy while others posed some thinking. Although there wasn't anything in the hidden objects we haven't seen before, they were varied in difficulty and exercise which kept my interest. The amazing thing was my ability to complete most all of the mini games. Not saying they were easy, but... well they must be if I did them. Nonetheless I did enjoy working them out. The ones I didn't do I just didn't understand what I need to do.
As helpers you have the map, which was very valuable. It showed where there were things to do and transported. If I have one complaint it was it seemed it took the map quite a while to come up. As a part of the game there is a gizmo which collects memories and shows what happened in that place at an earlier date. Did a good job explaining the story.
The story had me from the beginning and when the beast that had been wreaking havoc on the city was unmasked, I was taken by surprise. It is a great story and I don't usually rate them this high.
Give the demo a try, but don't base your opinion solely on it. There is so much more to the game than that explained in the demo.I think you'll enjoy it as much as I did. No witches, goblins or things that go bump in the night should be enough reason to make this purchase. Maybe... just maybe if the developers get the idea we are tired of the supernatural they will make more like this.
Maybe I'm not romantic this week, or perhaps the demons AGAIN scared me away, but I just could not get into this game. It just wasn't much fun in the demo.
Graphics were well done. Sounds including voice overs were really good and the music went along with the action. Only problem I saw was, as another reviewer said, the actions just didn't go along with what was happening. Lip movements were off and the actions of the characters just weren't realistic enough for me.
The challenge was pretty good. I hated those minis, as usual, but one saving grace is you have a choice between the easy or difficult mode. It seemed that many of the puzzles were do this, but it will effect that. I hate those worse of off. Hidden objects were clear and I wouldn't say simple by any means. Some were interactive and figuring out just what needed to be done was a challenge. This is the first time I have ever switched to the match game instead of trying to find matching pairs. That was just really difficult.
You eventually find an interactive map which was really helpful. It shows places where there are things to do and will transport.
I simply could not get into the story. I'm sure it is very good, but it just didn't strike me as interesting. It was a mixture of fairy tale and supernatural and I'm really tired of the supernatural stuff. You get to switch between the female and the male characters so you do get the best of both worlds which is a plus.
I'm sure this is a really good game, but not for me. As always, give the demo a shot. This may be right up your alley.
I know, it's really amazing that we have another ghost game, but ... I can't think of a thing to say about this worn out theme. It was an okay game. I have several of this series and this one would rank about the middle of them. Not the best ... not the worse.
As usual, the graphics were good. A bit on the dark side, but that goes along with the theme of the game. They were well done nonetheless. Sound was excellent as were the voice overs. Loved how the guy is scared. Whomever did that voice needs an Emmy. Music was along with the action and did add quite a bit to the excitement of the game. Effects, of course went along with the action.
The problem I had with this game were those blessed mini games. I know I don't have a lot of patience, but I simply could not figure out what to do with the majority of them. I guess I could have gone to the walk through, but these were well above my intelligence level. If you are one who likes difficult minis you're going to love this game ghosts or no. Hidden objects were very varied. Even had a couple I hadn't seen before. Now if they would just have made this a good old fashioned murder mystery it would have been perfect. As a helper, and I mean a necessary part of my travels though this twisted game, you have a map. As convoluted as I found the story, that map was a necessity in finding where to go and what to do.
I've addressed the story. Big Fish and other reviewers do a great job telling you the story line, so I'll leave that there. I just want to say it is time to get away from ghosts and goblins to another theme. As I read reviews, I see I'm not the only one. Come on Eipix, you can do it! I just know you can.
Give the demo a shot and I think you'll find that this is a pretty good game.
This really isn't such a bad game. It's the theme that gets in the way of a good game. It seemed like the demo was over so quickly I didn't have time to get into the story.
I have to agree with a few of the other posts, the graphics are not up to snuff as I have come to expect from this developer. The sound was fine, especially the voice overs. Music wasn't intrusive nor boring. Pretty good as it went along with the action.
Didn't have a lot of hidden object or mini games to do in the demo, so it is kind of hard to pass a judgement. The ones I did were fine. I even did the mini games which is amazing in itself. The map is interactive and shows where things are to be done and will transport you there. Several degrees of difficulty as is pretty much becoming the norm for all games and a blessing for those of us without the patience to work difficult mini games.
The story was the same as we have had in the past. Big fish and others set the stage so I won't go into the actual story. I'm just so over the ghosts and goblins I could scream... wait I just did.
Give the demo a try at least. If you are into the ghosts you might find this right up your alley.
This was an great game. IF you are into witches and such you're going to love it. I am sitting here actually wondering why I bought it, because I am so tired of this theme I could scream, but since this is about all we've been getting for so long, I decided to give it a try. It was fun to an extent, not because of the theme, but because of the uniqueness of the game.
Graphics were well done, but the winner in this category was the sound. Voice overs were very well done. Music went along with the story for the most part and wasn't boring. It is extremely colorful and pleasant to the eyes.
I ranked the level of challenge high simply because of the ability to choose easy or difficult. Choosing the easy allowed my patience level to complete most all of the mini games. There seemed to me to be a lot of repetition in the mini games of doing about the same thing over and over, but there was enough variety to keep me satisfied. I still wish they would offer an alternative like they do for hidden objects, but alas, maybe one day. Hidden objects were also varied. Some were rather difficult and some easy. There was one in a cave I couldn't figure out how to do. After using the hint to get started I felt pretty dumb, but it threw me for a few minutes. There is an interactive map which transports and shows where things can be done. That's always a plus in my book.
I gave the story an okay rating and probably should have rated it higher. The low rating wasn't because the story was bad by any means. It was well written, laid out, and had the continuity I look for in all my games. The rating was because of the theme. Hopefully if the developers start getting these ratings they will come up with something besides witches, ghosts and things that go bump in the night. It isn't anything we haven't seen over and over.
Give the demo a try. Like I said, IF you are into witches you're going to love this game. It's nice and long, or at least seemed that way, and kept me entertained all afternoon.
While this series is my least favorite, this game just added to that feeling. It was confusing, irritating, and just not fun at all. I've never seen the sense of this series.
Graphics were good as was the sound and voice overs. The music went along with the action. The only difficulty I experienced was the delay between scenes and action. It took quite a while for something to happen.
I found the hidden object scenes to be just as silly as the rest of the game. Looking for things that I had no idea what they were to begin with. I did find out what a pounder is and it's not a hammer. I did play the mini games which means they are extremely simple or I'm getting smarter in my old age. I will go with the former. There is an interactive map which, to me, was to transport only. It does not show where there are things you can do, just that there is an objective there. I used the hint button numerous times just to figure out where to go and what to do in a scene.
The story was okay. You're a detective, of course, and the one saving grace of the game is you get to pick if you are a man or woman. That to me is a plus. I do get tired of digging my heels out of the closet to play a lady all the time. Big Fish does a great job setting the stage for the story so I won't go into it at length.
While I own several games of this series, this will not be one of them. I need something that makes a little sense to purchase it.
If you are a fan of the Haunted Hotel series, this one is either going to disappoint or thrill you to death. I found it to be so much different than the previous games in the series. It was fun, but really different in how it was presented. That's not all bad, but kind of a shock to the system... :-)
I was a tad bit disappointed in the graphics. It was really dark, which is to be expected I suppose, but it was more so than anything previous. Drawings were just that, drawings, but well done. Sound, including voice overs were well done and the music as well as the effects went along with the action in the scene.
Hidden objects varied from the list to a bit interactive to silhouettes, my least favorite kind. They did keep my interest throughout. Mini games were also varied. Not much we haven't seen before, but with a twist here and there. Most were past my patience level or I didn't understand what I had to do. I like to think I have at least an average intelligence, but for the life of me I couldn't figure some of them out. You know where they have a different game if you don't want to play hidden objects, I wish they would do that with mini games. There is an interactive map which I found to be a necessity. There is a lot of back and forth so the transport and identification of locations where something was to be done, really helped out. This is a big ol' hotel not counting the out areas. There are several options for difficulty which I chose custom so as to set the hint and skip to their lowest level.
While the story seemed to bounce around some, it was pretty good in the continuity department. It comes together in the end so that's about all that really matters, I guess.
All in all it is a good game. I want to go back and play another of the series to see how much different this one really is. Give the demo a try and I think, if you are into ghosts and such, you'l really like it.
I purchased this game simply because it wasn't supernatural. It's a good old fashion who dun it. Not sorry I did, but wish I had used a coupon to make that purchase. I was pretty disappointed in it. Not a horrible game, but it wasn't the best I've played. It just lacked enough that it wasn't as much fun as I had hoped.
The graphics were not quite the quality I expected from this developer. Sound including voice overs and music were very good.
Hidden object scenes were okay. They were few and far between in this game, and that's why I play them is for the hidden objects. The ones that were in the game were really simple. I guess one question I would ask is, when is a bowl not a bowl... when it's a bow. That one got by the developers... LOL I do believe that is the only time I used my hint in a hidden object game. The minis were either repetitious, just way past my patience level, or I didn't understand what to do. That seemed to be he case in most of them. I've played games very similar to this, but they went under another series name, and had little or no trouble doing the crime scenes, but this one beat me. The map was a life saver. It transports and shows where there is something to do. There is a choice of several modes of play which I chose the custom. I like setting skip and hint to the quickest level.
I do believe they lost me in the story. It was well written, but for the life of me I could not keep up with who was whom and who did what to the other. Probably my bad, but it was really convoluted in my opinion. There was consistency, but there must be more to a story than that.
I'm really trying to find good things to say about the game, but it is difficult. I realize as I read the other reviews I'm in a minority here, so be sure to try out the demo and give this a try. Your experience may very well be better than mine..
I just don't like this game. It's way too much fantasy for my liking. I did the beta test and wanted to see if they had made any changes. There is really nothing wrong with the game, it is just too juvenile for me. I don't think my granddaughter would care for it either.
The graphics were okay. Really nothing out of the ordinary for this type of game. Lots of pinks and blues fill the screen. Sound is good especially the voice overs. The one thing I really did like about the graphics were the hands. Yes, hands actually appeared to use objects instead of the object magically appearing and cutting or doing its thing without any hands working it. Small deal I realize, but it is worth mentioning.
I didn't care for the mini games. They were repetitious in that they seemed to be "do this, but it will effect something else." My least favorite of all mini games. Hidden object scenes were well done and pretty varied. The map was interactive transporting and showing where there was something to do. You have a choice of difficulty of which I chose the custom so as to set the hint and skip to their quickest times of 15 seconds.
As I said, this was a fantasy. So far as this type of story goes, this was well written and had continuity which is important to me. I was so excited that the game was about Stonehenge, but when I got into it and found the fantasy aspect, I just lost interest.
Give the demo a try and if you like this kind of theme you will probably love this game. It just wasn't for me.
What made this game so much fun is not having to deal with ghosts, witches and goblins for a change. I am so tired of that theme that this effort from Eipix made my day. Thanks again.
Graphics and sound including voice overs were fantastic as usual. The music went along with the action and the effects were true to the story. Colors were bright and realistic.
The only problem I had was with the mini games. I'm not a big mini lover in the first place, but most of these I couldn't figure out what to do. Way past my abilities and patience. Hidden objects were varied and well done. I do have difficulty with those that pop up in the window of the hidden object scene. They are so small I have difficulty seeing them. Other than that loved them. The map is a great help. It transports and shows where there is something to do. There are, I believe, four different levels of challenge, so it you are a die hard you can do the hard, but I choose the custom so I can set the skip and hint to their fastest level.
Big Fish does a great job setting the story line for you, so I won't go into it. I'll just say it has continuity and kept my interest. Devil got his due, which is a good thing. Wish they would make a gender option. I hate digging my heels out of the closet to get into the game... :-)
Give the demo a try. I do believe you will enjoy this game as much as I did. I really hope this is the beginning of a change from those supernatural themed games. Well, at least I can hope.
