I have most, if not all, in this series and this one will not be joining the collection. It simply was not fun on so many levels.
The graphics, and sound were very well done as were the voice overs. I did like the colors used. They weren't dark and drab, but normal as a graphic can portray.
I was so disappointed in the mini games. These are not my favorite parts of a game anyway, but these seemed to just be repeated over and over in the short time the demo lasts. Several were in those small pop-up windows and perhaps my eye sight is failing faster than I thought, because I had difficulty seeing them. One mini I just can't stand is where, "do this and it will effect another". That was the one I remember as being repeated so much. Hidden objects were okay, but just not enough of them.
Having not read the original Poe presentation I can't pass judgement on how the game follows it, but the short demo story left me begging for something to catch my attention.
I do wish I could find more positive things to say, but disappointment fills my mind. I have been waiting for this to come out in SE and was excited to see it, and perhaps my anticipation led to my disappointment. As always, play the demo and perhaps you will find this game to your liking.

As other have said, this game is rather short, but it was long enough for me to kill an afternoon. It was the perfect length for me. I found it rather entertaining, although not as much as other games in this series and I believe I have them all.
Great graphics and colors. There weren't dark shades of purple and black. The voice overs were very well done and good old Richard is back with his recognizable voice. I was surprised that Anna didn't talk in this one. Music and effects went along with the action in the scene.
I found the mini games to be simple enough that I was able to play them. I wasn't successful all the time, but at least they were doable. One thing I wish designers would do is have a way to have the computer complete the mini and then allow the player to attempt it again. Some minis I just don't know what to do. Hidden objects were varied and interesting. They did keep my interest. I used the custom mode so I wouldn't have to wait for the hint and skip to recharge. Patience is not one of my virtues. Although there wasn't a lot of back and forth, the map did come in handy to see if I had missed anything in that scene. If I did need to go elsewhere it would show where to go and transport me there.
I have always liked the this story line. I'm not a big fan of supernatural games, but I do like this series. Others will go into depth about the story, so I'll just say it got me involved from the beginning and kept me until the end.
Play the demo and see if it isn't a game you might enjoy. I sure did.

I read the other reviews and I must have missed something in the demo, because I did not like this game one bit. I couldn't wait for the demo to end, which seemed like forever.
One of the positives of this game were the graphics. They were colorful and pleasant on the eyes. Voice overs were very well done and the music and effects went along with the action in the scene.
There are two offers of challenge in the mini games. I chose the easy, because I'm not a big fan of minis. I was able to complete most of them, but it got to the point I wanted this to end so I just started skipping. Hidden objects were very well done. Just enough difficulty to make them interesting.
The story was okay. I never got into it and just didn't care for the characters at all. They seemed to be tossed into the story line as a last minute thought. I don't care much for this genre of game and perhaps that is the greatest problem I had with the story. It's a turn on Phantom of the Opera, mask and all, but Phantom was much better.
Play the demo. Perhaps you will find this a better game than I.

No, this is not the Hidden Expeditions we have enjoyed in the past, but it wasn't all that horrible either. I rather enjoyed playing it. I'm sure there are new developers and they try to add something new to keep a series fresh. In this case they should have stayed with the tried and proven games.
Graphics were well done. Colors were beautiful and the outdoor scenes were picturesque. Voice overs were ok. Wish they had stayed with the old Sam. I've grown accustomed to that voice and like it. Poor Sam must have had a failed face-lift. He didn't look well. One thing I don't understand is why there were no voices when HQ phoned. It happened at the beginning of the game, but after a short bit they turned into bars. The music and effects went along with the action in the scene.
The hidden objects were okay as well. Nothing to shout home about, but they were well done. I detested the mini games! They were so convoluted and way past my patience level. Most of the time I had no idea what to do until the computer did them for me after I hit skip. The map is a great help. There is a lot of back and forth and without that map, I'd still be wandering the jungle.
I'm sure others will go into depth about the story, so I'll not bore you with my version. The story was typical. I have to admit I did get lost and had to figure out what was going on, but in the end it came together. Normally I really enjoy the fact cards. In this it seemed they were just trying to throw something at me so there would be a fact card. Many had nothing to do with the story or the scene.
Yes, this was a weak effort and kind of a disappointment to get this quality from Eipix. It isn't as bad as some I've played, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Give the demo a try and see if you like it.
I was really reluctant to make this purchase, but I did and I'm pleased with my buy. The game was interesting and rather fun, as much as I hate to admit it. I'm not a fan of this genre, but this one surpassed my expectations.
Graphics, were great as were the effects which went along with the action in the scene. The voice overs were exceptional and the music wasn't as bad as I expected.
Loved the hidden object games. There are lots of them and they are well presented. They are clear and not just a junk pile. Mini games were likewise good. I even, as he proudly sticks his chest out, liked them. I did most of them and the ones I didn't I couldn't figure out what to do. So that means there are simple or I've developed a great deal of patience and intelligence which I doubt, so I'll go with simple.
Others will go into the story so I'll not bore you with those details. I was hooked on the story from the beginning all the way through. The continuity was amazing. Don't get them written this well anymore.
The only problem I had with the entire game was the constant loading. One would think in this day and age that wouldn't be necessary, but it did get extremely frustrating waiting for the load each time I changed scenes and sometimes within the same scene. It isn't a deal breaker, but it is obnoxious to say the least.
Give the demo a try. This is one of the better games to come out here lately and perhaps you might find it as enjoyable as I did.
I have to admit I was a bit leery about getting this game after playing the demo, but I am so glad I did. It was one of the better games to come out of Mad Heads since Adam Wolfe. Whole bunch of fun.
The graphics are very well done. Voice overs were pretty good. Lip-sync was off some, but all in all it was okay. Effects went along with the action in the scene and were very well done. The only problem I had was with the music It was so irritating I almost turned it off.
The game is very challenging. From most of the mini games to the great hidden object games. Many of the minis were extremely time consuming and well past my patience level. Some I just didn't understand what to do. The hidden objects were the most challenging I have ever played. They are extremely varied from a list to more involved ones. I spent a lot of time trying to find the objects. If you like difficult mini games and challenging hidden objects this game is for you. There was one scene that listed a Toy Bear. I clicked and clicked on a stuffed bear and nothing. I ended up having to use a hint and if the item it identified is a bear, I'm an ostrich. I don't know if it was a glitch or just trying to drive me nuts. If so they succeeded.
I really enjoyed the story much more after the demo than I did during. Others will go into detail what the story is about, just let me say if caught me, reeled me in and I was really involved with it.
That's it. Great game and one I've been waiting for. Even if it is kind of a ghost story it had enough other elements that it negated my dislike of the genre. Give the demo a shot and see if this game isn't for you. Just remember it gets better after the demo.
I found this game to be really fun and put together well. From the story, mechanics, and all the factors used in making a successful game joined together to give me an wonderful gaming experience.
Graphics were excellent. Bright colors made it easy on the eyes. I loved that I could pick the voice of a male or female. Adds a lot when I don't have to put my heels on to play a game. Music and effects went along with the action in the scene. Voice overs were very well done.
Really enjoyed the hidden objects and the majority of the mini games.Hidden objects were list and silhouettes with an interactive one thrown in occasionally. It was a nice mix. I normally don't like mini games, but with these the instructions were clear and the objective rather simple.. they were easy in other words. Right up my alley.
The straw boy is here to help. I don't really mind him in that he does break whatever monotony may be happening. The interactive map was a necessity for me. There is a lot of jumping back and forth and the map shows where there are things to do and transports you. I also liked the custom setting. Hint and skip are set for the same time. From 1 second to eternity. I used the lowest setting.
The story had me from the very beginning. It goes along with the other games in this series, but just enough difference that it kept me waiting for the next thing to happen.
This is a great game. Give the demo a shot and see if it isn't to your liking.

I almost didn't post this, because the game has been out for a while, but I had to put my two cents worth in, because of some of the negative reviews. I didn't find much wrong with this game. The only problem is I didn't have a chance to play it all at once broke my playing time over a couple of days. I did lose some of the story and was a bit confused but it all came together at the end.
Graphics were well done. Clear and crisp. Of course, because of the genre of the game there are a lot of blues and such, but the colors were okay. I thought the voice overs were well done. There is one character I thought was going to break into a valley girl, but she came to her senses. I found that humorous. Music and effects went along with the action in the scenes.
I really enjoyed the hidden objects. They were so varied it kept me interested. I even... yes I'm writing this... enjoyed the mini games. I completed most all of them after the demo. One thing that was essential was the map. There is a lot of back and forth and trying to figure out where to go next without that would have been impossible for me. It shows where there is something to do and will take you there. A few instances, the game took you there. Two screens would pop up and foot prints would lead you to the scene you needed to be. Haven't seen that feature before.
The story is a bit convoluted and difficult to follow at times, but if you can keep up with who's who then you'll understand everything at the end.
All in all, this is a good long game. Give the demo a try, but don't base your reflection entirely on the demo. While it is rather long, it really doesn't give you the feel of the game.

No, this game is not Poe's Pit and the Pendulum, but it was an okay game just the same. It isn't near as good as others in this series, but passable. I'm glad I got it with a coupon or I would probably have been a bit more disappointed. It killed a few hours and that's all I was looking for anyway.
Graphics were the best part of the game. They were well done. Music went along with the action in the scene and wasn't intrusive. I was a bit disappointed in the voice overs. The sinc wasn't present as usual with this developer and Dupin sounded like he's recovering after a hard night at the pub. Colors were natural and the effects were pretty darn good.
I did like the level of challenge. The hidden objects were clear and pretty simple. There was the lists and some interactive ones. No silhouettes thank goodness. I hate those things. Mini games were varied and again not too difficult. I completed several of them and skipped some mostly out of boredom or I couldn't figure out what to do. The instructions weren't clear on some. The map was extremely helpful. It did show areas where something needed to be done and transported. There was a lot of back and forth it seemed like so that transport feature was great.
Again this is not Poe's Pit. It is a story that honestly needed a little work to tie it together. I was a bit lost in it, but not enough to panic. My main complaint was the ending. It.... well just ended. Not much imagination there.
All in all this is an okay game. If you are one who loves to beat your brains out doing puzzles, you'll probably not like this. It is a bit boring at times, but I found few flaws. Give the demo a shot and see if this is for you.

This game was okay. Not a lot of excitement in the demo or anything to make me say it was fun. Just okay in my book.
Graphics were well done and the sound, especially the voice overs, what there were of them, were good. The dialog was really missing in this one. Constant, "Got to save my wife" is not my idea of a good dialog. The colors were fine for the genre of game... a bit on the dark side, but expected. The effects went along with the action in the scene.
Hidden objects were varied from list to silhouettes, my least favorite. There wasn't anything new in the mini games I could see. Pretty much the same thing we have all the time. There is quite a bit of back and forth so the interactive map really came in handy.
Others will go into depth about the story, but I'll just say that in that short demo, there just wasn't anything to attach me to the characters or really care about what was going to happen. It just lacked something... like a caring figure. It's put together rather haphazardly with little to join everything together. It's possible that as the game goes on it will develop, but there isn't enough there for this to be a purchase for me. I really do miss James. He was always there and it seemed to make the games more interesting.
Play the demo, which as I said is very short, and perhaps you will find something that I missed.
