I enjoyed this game for the most part. The graphics are excellent and the HOS/mini games are fun. As you work through the game you find medical records, journals and newspaper clippings that expand the story, which is fun. You really need to play the first game (Shadow Town) before this game or you'll be really lost. You are the wife/girlfriend of the main character in the first game. You're in a mental hospital... maybe...or you're still on the island....maybe....or you're both places.
I really enjoyed the game until the very end. i thought they were going one direction, but they went a totally different way. It was also a confusing and somewhat unsatisfying ending, although it was quite shocking. I imagine they are planning a third game and maybe they'll explain things more fully.
The bonus chapter was not worth the price of the CE. It was okay and filled in more back story, but it was short and not that much fun,
I recommend this game, but only if you've played Shadow Town and don't mind confusing endings. Also, I would purchase the SE not the CE.
Wow, this game is awesome! The graphics are excellent, the cut scenes are great, the HOS and mini games are fun, the story was mysterious and fun. As you work your way through the game you run across various journals and newspaper clippings that fill in the back story, which was great. The hint button is helpful if you're stuck. The ending was a bit of a shock, but I'm looking forward to playing the sequel. I highly recommend this game!
I really wanted to love this game, but just couldn't. The game is very slow paced, you have to wait for every scene to load. The game is all HOS followed by mini games. The HOS are unique in that you find the object and it moves to another part of the scene. So you have to watch were items go and not select them again. Some of the items are almost impossible to find, but you do have a hint button. Also, some of the items are difficult to select, which is frustrating. This is a straight forward game, there is no back and forth between scenes. The objective is obvious from the beginning.
The graphics are dated, but still nice. The music was somewhat annoying and I muted the speakers after 30 minutes or so. The cut scenes are fine. There are no voice overs.
Parts of the game were really fun, but parts were frustrating. I didn't mind the slow pace of the game until near the end. At that point, I just wanted it to be over. I was hoping there would be more of the sense of adventure you get from reading the book or watching the original 20,000 Leagues movie.
Anyhoo, if you enjoy HOS and like a slower paced game, I would recommend this one. If not, you should probably look elsewhere.
I really enjoyed this game. It is creepy, but so much fun. The graphics, cut scenes and sound are great. The mini games and HOS are fun. You also have to look for post cards. i didn't find all of them, but it was fun to look for them. There are several buildings and areas to search, which is nice. The strategy guide is not integrated, which was a bit annoying; however, I didn't have to use it until I got to the bonus chapter.
The bonus chapter was okay, there were a couple of fun mini games and the ending was great. My only gripe about the bonus chapter was the staggeringly high number of HOS's (and I usually like HOS's). Even with that gripe, I still recommend this game and am looking forward to playing the sequel.
This game would have been outstanding except for the HOS. The sound and cut scenes were all great. The graphics were great except for the HOS. The HOS scenes were dark, objects were difficult/impossible to find and some were mis-identified. For example, a "bowl" actually looked like a goblet and a "goose" actually looked like a duckling. Also some of the "use an object to find another object" scenes were extremely picky about where you clicked.
The story line was good, but the difficulty with the HOS was so frustrating. About halfway through, I started using the SG to find objects and even it had some issues.
The bonus chapter was ok, but not worth the money for a CE. I would recommend purchasing the standard version of this game.
I really enjoyed Murders in the Rue Morgue and was looking forward to playing this game. Had the issue with the HOS not been so frustrating, the game would have been awesome.
Travel from the deepest trenches of the Atlantic Ocean to the awe-inspiring wonders of Mars as you solve the greatest archeological puzzle known to man: the origin of Atlantis.
I really enjoyed this game. The graphics and sound are excellent, the cut scenes were well done. The sci-fi theme was enjoyable. The mini games were not overly difficult, but were fun. The hint button is helpful when you're stuck. The map is awesome, it allows you to easily move around the game and also gives helpful information. The strategy guide is available, but I never used it.
IMO, the main drawback is the "big twist" which is rather lame and was obvious before the game was half over. Had the developers changed a couple of things, the "big twist" would have come off better.
The bonus chapter was entertaining and added to the back story for the main game.
Overall, I really enjoyed this game and highly recommend it.
Loved this game. A prince, a princess, a phoenix, dragons, an evil witch and her minion....OMG what more could one want. This game is fantastic. The graphics and sound are great, the mini games and HOS are fun, the hint button recharges fairly quickly in casual mode (but you won't need it very often), the cut scenes are nicely done.
In some of the HOS, you have to use the things you find to find the rest of the items, which is a nice change of pace. The game was lengthy, which is nice. The bonus chapter was a nice way to wrap up the story. I'm really glad I purchased the CE for this game.
I got stuck a couple of times and used the built in strategy guide which was very helpful.
Wow! This game is awesome....ancient castle, ghostly helpers, abandoned village....all excellent. The graphics and cut scenes are great, the music is acceptable, the voice overs are good, the storyline is enjoyable and keeps you on your toes, there are lots of objects to find (both in HOS and mini games), the mini games are great (some are really difficult), there are lots of places to visit and the conclusion is satisfying. The hint button is helpful when you're stuck and it recharges quickly enough. I did use the skip button on a couple of the mini games. I almost wish I had purchased the CE version.
I will definitely play this game again and highly recommend it.
This game is entertaining. There are voice overs for the characters and cut scenes to keep the story moving. The graphics and sound are good. The music is pleasant. The hint button only works in HOS, but you don't really need it. The map provides a lot of clues when you're trying to figure out where to go next. The mini games were fun, but not too difficult. You are a photographer accompanying a journalist, so you get to take lots of pictures, which is fun. The journal is broken into several sections and comes in handy.
There were some minor annoyances with the game play. A couple of times I had to exit the game and go back into it to get items from inventory to cooperate. I also had some trouble getting one of the mini games to work properly, but it finally cooperated.
I would recommend this game to those folks who like a mixture of adventure and HOGs. This is some of both.
For the most part, I enjoyed this game. The graphics and sound were good, the storyline was pretty good, there were lots of puzzles and enough HOS for me. I enjoyed finding the frogs, they really cracked me up, even though I'm not sure they served any purpose. The hint button recharges fairly quickly and is actually helpful when you're stuck.
I did not care for the video diary, would have preferred a regular diary. I really wish there had been a map to click between places. There was a lot of running back and forth, which got old after awhile.
The story had a satisfying ending, which I really enjoyed. This is a long game, so you definitely get your money's worth. I would recommend this game and will probably play it again at some point.
