I've played games that others have given only one star and wondered why. Now it's my turn to wonder why on earth this has almost 4 full stars as its overall rating.
This story is slow and senseless, the play is slow (I know it's not my computer), the HOPs are slow, and in some I clicked the object without even realizing it *was* the object - lots of frustrated clicking in the HOPs. Need I go on? I trashed it before even looking at the extras. That I finished the main game is surprising. I started to trash it several times during game play, but pushed on, hoping it might get better.
This game has made me wonder if I shouldn't ignore the star ratings and play the trial for every game I think I might buy. I have avoided the trials to now, but maybe that's the way to go.
For the last few months, I've been wondering what happened to those games that had bunches of HOPs, then a major, multipart, interactive game at the end of the chapters. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember any of their names.
Then I saw this one. The reviews almost made me pass it up. Seems lots of people didn't get what it was about. AM I EVER GLAD I GOT THIS ONE! Yes, I'm shouting. It was a nostalgic trip down memory lane, one I totally enjoyed. While I can honestly say I don't remember much about the games referenced in this one, it was still fun to play the bunches of HOPs and the "super games" at the end of the chapters.
I'm really glad Eipix put this out and, honestly, I hope they'll do more. It was great fun to go back to what these games used to be a few years ago!
I had an inkling that I wouldn't like this game when it first opened up on my computer screen. Instead of filling the entire screen, I had just a square in the center of the screen. The volume went from "can't hear it" to "blow your eardrums out" depending on the scene. I became frustrated by the poor instructions on the mini games and skipped a whole lot of them. I frequently had to access the guide in order to move forward. All in all, it wasn't a fun game.
While I thought the bonus game could have been much better in many ways, the main game on the CE was superb! Fun, engaging, non-intrusive music, good games - some I've never seen before - and great graphics. For those of you who abhor the silhouette style HOPs, you might want to skip this game: all the HOPs are that type, and interactive, to boot. However, if you don't mind them, go for it. This game had some of the more challenging HOPs I've seen in a long time.
For me, this was a really good game. The developers did a great job, and I hope they keep it up!
This is one dark game! Others have reviewed and told what's in the game, so I'll just say: if you don't like dark, creepy games, pass this one by. I was held in thrall from the first few minutes, and hated to leave to make supper! It's a "page turner" for sure, but a fairly dark one! Thanks, DM!
I enjoyed everything about this game! The graphics, music, games, hops, all were terrific. No need for me to elaborate, as others here have done a great job with that already. I just had to say: Great job, GrandMa! Thank you!
I almost didn't buy this one. So many people (reviewers with whom I usually agree, even) dissed this game. I can't figure out why! So Dupin looked a little older and wiser: big deal! I thought it was nice not seeing that baby-faced man again. So the story had nothing to do with Poe's poem Lenore. Frankly, I thought the story line more than made up for that!
This was a fun game to play, had a solid story line, good puzzles and hops. It was worthy of being a collectors ed IMNSHO.
I know that I've played games in the past that I felt weren't worth the time and effort, and after playing them again at another time, wondered why I didn't like it the first time through. I'm beginning to think that one's frame of mind can have a lot to do with how one views these games. I am VERY glad I didn't listen to the naysayers. I would have missed a good game if I had!
Wow. I tried. I really did. I finally gave up. After falling asleep twice, forgetting which game I was playing, and hitting the hint button for the umpteenth time, I finally dropped this one in the trash, unfinished, on the third day of play. See? I really did try.
The story is so convoluted and meandering that it was difficult to follow at best, downright confusing at worst. And Thor? A bad guy? Um, I don't think so. I also found some of the HOPs difficult to do as the items were awfully small.
Not a good one at all, IMNSHO. Definitely do not recommend.
