From the start, it's apparent that the victim of our case is not the true Marion Ashworth. But who is she? Over the course of the game we attempt to learn the truth of her identity and what led to this. If this isn't the true Marion Ashworth, then where is she?
As in other games in this series, Deadly Deception has wonderful visuals and sound. The level of challenge isn't too difficult. The story took an interesting twist on the classic "stolen identity" story. The hidden object scenes have the "Match 3" option in case you get stuck or want to use it instead, while avoiding using a hint.
I'm kind of disappointed that we didn't get to learn more about what drove her into the identity theft. We got a, "I'll be free to be myself!" at the end, so I guess she felt like she was under too much pressure? The CE version of this game continues the story after the culprit is arrested. Also, one of the victims had a dog, while the culprit had a bird. I hope they were adopted later on!
Overall, it's another wonderful installment in the Danse Macabre series.
The story behind this game is that when the "sages" were able to open a connection/door to another world, we soon had a "plague" appear. This disease rapidly ages people, and there was no cure until Henrik, the supposed savior of the other world, offers a cure in exchange for some of the children (12 and under, I believe). I don't know what was told to the families, but when they got the cure, it didn't work. Our character, Elva, is called in to help develop a cure and stop the bad guy.
The game started off decently enough. I love the visuals in this game. The different locations all looked lovely! The sound was okay. The level of challenge? I didn't think it was too difficult. Fun factor? I was undecided during the first little bit, as I couldn't find myself "connecting" with Michael, who we are supposed to work with to create the cure. He and his girlfriend, Nova, have been working hard since the beginning of the outbreak to develop a cure and save the people. At the start, I kept having the same line repeated at me after I reached a certain point until I gave him what he wanted. He didn't even react to the soldiers trying to kidnap another kid from his doorway... Honestly, the villain barely beat him for my least liked character of the game. But that's just my opinion. Nova doesn't really do much except get captured or occasionally hand us things. By the end of the game, I wasn't really invested in either Michael or Nova. I liked the one store owner from the beginning, that one guy in the bar, and the one guy asking for flowers more than them. Again, that's my opinion.
One of my favorite parts of this game was the "Helper Owl". It was very cute and extremely helpful, especially during one or two confrontation. I kind of wish they let you name it, and I hope Elva got to keep it. Another favorite for me was the lovely designs for the various locations.
The game starts somewhat slow, but gets a bit faster during the rest of the game (sans the ending). The story made it pretty obvious that Henrik was bad news and up to something. (and he threw a key part at us like a shuriken before running away...) I do recommend this game, but I encourage you to play the demo first.
The game opens with a flashback. There's a group of children outside, and one ends up injured. There's the question of, "Is he dead?" And then we jump forward several years, and the kids are adults. You play as Ashley, and you are on your way home. You're driving, listening to the radio, which is warning you about a bad storm that will occur soon. As they're mentioning this, you get hit by another car (it hits the driver's side). You later wake up in the hospital to your husband and the doctor discussing what to do, and that you need to take it easy while you recover from the crash and the amnesia. The husband, Stan, decides that you should go to his family's farmhouse. And so off you go, and into the mystery and haunting.
As games in this series go, I really enjoyed it. It has the obvious tragedy and spirits haunting the people/place. The story is a nice change. I like that we had to escape from a mad man while trying to discover who we are/our past. Over the course of our investigation/run for our life, we discover more clues about the motive. I will say that I was startled a few times, and I was telling the character, "I hope you locked the door!" Yeah, she didn't. And it's always amusing to see how fast a cell phone charges in games... I was wishing mine charged that fast!
The story ends with a "hey, we're still alive!" and "the spirits are freed!" The other "bad" in the game vanishes, so I wonder if it returns in the CE. The visuals and sound were lovely, and I had a lot of fun playing this game. I really enjoyed the story, and the level of challenge was great.
The atmosphere of the game had a good level of spooky. I was waiting for the bad guy to pop up several times, and was still surprised when they did. If you're a fan of this series, or this genre of game, I recommend this game. Try the demo and see what you think!
The game starts with a scene showing our "big bad" trying to find a new planet to attack before discovering Earth. Meanwhile, you and your sister, Margaret, are taking a trip. She would like to join the Seekers and be one like you. You are to start her initiation. Before it can be completed, you are attacked by the evil god, Sanderion, and your sister, currently what is known as a seeker adept before initiation is complete, is captured. Can you rescue her and defeat the evil? Or is Earth doomed?
To be fair, the game was fun. There was a moment when I went "aww" at a cute little animal. There was a moment when I jumped a little at an unexpected event. I did enjoy the game. I just have a complaint about how predictable some moments were, and how the character we played as didn't seem to put the pieces together as quick. I also thought we were done after a certain point, but I was surprised by more. That bit isn't a complaint, as I did enjoy the new area.
The map offers you the ability to teleport to previous scenes, so it shaves some time off. The visuals were lovely, as was the sound. The one that voiced Margaret sounded a little... monotone, maybe? Well, at the beginning, anyway. She did better after her capture and then the later release. There were some difficult puzzles, possibly, but I felt that the majority weren't too difficult. At one point, they want you to rescue/release the goddess Tritta, and they throw in a plot twist between her and Sanderion that I didn't see coming.
As a game in the series, I did enjoy it. It's a nice game to play. If you're curious, try the demo and see what you think.
We enter into this game with a scene where a man is narrating. He even included a line about "the bitterness of a rejected child." Foreshadowing? Possibly. From there, we, at H.E.L.P. receive a coded message and are sent to investigate. We arrive and notice the unusual tremors. Sam, who I was happy to see in this game, is soon neutralized for the rest of the game, sans the ending scene before the credits. We soon are sent to investigate about a girl who runs away/goes missing and it leads into a whole other mystery.
For a Hidden Expedition game, I did enjoy it. I mean, I was a little sad at the lack of Sam in the game, as I find him an enjoyable addition. It seemed like we just started and then we were on our own for the mission. I will say that it didn't take away anything from the game, especially when you're sneaking around a high security area.
The visuals and sound are, as always, amazing. The story was interesting, and there was a twist I didn't expect. I think that the SE wrapped up the story nicely. It does make me wonder about the bonus chapter in the CE, but I don't think it would add or subtract anything from the story or the fun I had playing it. The puzzles weren't too difficult, and there were some that I really enjoyed.
The demo is there to give you an idea on whether you would like to play the game, but it won't give away everything. That would spoil the rest of the game. If you're interested in this game, I recommend trying the demo. For an addition to the Hidden Expedition series, this game didn't disappoint.
You go searching for an artifact, only to have the guy rowing the boat disappear. Shortly after, you're in the water and later washed up near the Logan family's castle. From there, it's obvious that things have taken a dark turn. Can you learn the truth and escape, or will you join the dead?
I completed this game in a couple hours, so it isn't too long. The map (3 pages) is useful when you want to move around quickly. The visuals and sound are lovely. The story is enjoyable. I had a few moments when I jumped, so I can give it a spook factor.
I think they made it a bit predictable about what may happen or what led to the massacre. And that's before they actually admit it. Even so, it didn't take anything away from the game. I thought it was fun.
The game contains: 5 chapters for the main game, 1 bonus chapter, and 3 different collectibles. It also has the many achievements and the strategy guide that you can expect to see in a CE. I also liked that they added the nice touch of a bit of history for the collectibles that belong to Rick (once you locate the "eyes" hidden in some scenes).
We start with by picking up a hitchhiker named Emily. Things soon turn down a dark path as Emily disappears. We soon learn that Emily is a ghost, and that anyone who picks up this phantom hitchhiker will die in 3 days. The curse has taken numerous lives before this, so can you escape with your life while uncovering the truth?
To start, I love that Rick mentions the fact that this is how things can go wrong in horror movies when deciding to give Emily a lift, only to say that his mom raised a gentleman. I liked the characters we met along the way, from Emily the Phantom Bride to others like Norman and more. The visuals in this game are amazing! The sound was nice. The story was a bit predictable for me, as I guessed what had occurred long before they admitted it. It didn't take away any of the enjoyment in playing the game. I loved every minute of this game.
I do have to mention that there are some errors in spelling. For example, in the bonus chapter, they have a character say "She" but they end up spelling "See" instead. There was also some mistakes, I thought, in the note that Emily's groom wrote her. Honestly, it doesn't take away from the game, as I understood what they mean... but it would have been nice to avoid those little errors.
Overall, I really enjoyed this game. It's a great introduction to a new series. I'm looking forward to the next game!
I recommend this game!

Redemption Cemetery: The Island of the Lost
You crash-land on an island populated by ghosts. Like them, are you trapped here forever?
You are a pilot on your first flight (by yourself). It doesn't take long for you to crash land on the island and begin your adventure. In this SE, you have to help ghosts find peace or help them avoid tragedy before you can defeat the evil that feeds on the despair of the spirits. Throughout the game, this evil tries to stop you from succeeding. Can you save the spirits and yourself?
The game was a bit short. I completed it in a couple hours. The portal, when you first speak to the spirits to begin the "time travel", was different for the first than the last two. I mean it had the player complete a puzzle before being able to use the first portal, but we could just jump in for the last two. No puzzle required.
The hidden object scenes were clear and easy to get through. They even have a spin on the "match 3" game that helps if you would like to use it instead, or if you get stuck on the HOS. The game offers a map that can help teleport you to various locations.
The story was... well, it was a bit of the same and a bit of the new. The story normally has you help three spirits, though in this game they throw in a fourth at the beginning. That fourth helps you throughout the game in the cemetery. The spirits all have links to one family, though I can't recall the name of it for this review. The first spirit wasn't a member of the family, but knew one who was. The second married into the family, as did the third. The fourth spirit, our helper, was just there to give us the raven friend to help us reach items in high/out of reach locations. I did like the story for that link, though the conclusion was... awkward, I guess? You get the tool to defeat the creature, though in my game it popped up in the "third world", and it just goes, "Oh no! Not the amulet!" And disappears into smoke. And while defeated, it isn't destroyed, so it can regain it's strength over time. Good thing you get to keep the amulet, and that the crash was a hallucination... or was it?
Overall, I did enjoy this game. I purchased it as the "Catch of the Week" for the $2.99 price, and I'm glad I did. It's a nice addition to the Redemption Cemetery series.
We are called to keep a "crazy fan" away from the star performer, Ruth. When we are finally able to access area past the front gate, we soon have a homicide to investigate. Is someone threatening the star skater? Why? Who? Can you solve the case before they get away?
It got a bit predictable on who the culprit could be at a certain point. It didn't take anything away from the game, but I like trying to solve the question of who did it. That's why I enjoy these types of games. I like that it allowed you to go over the info/evidence collected. The puzzles aren't too difficult, and neither are the hidden object scenes. I like that they offer the "Match 3" as an option on the HOS. And hey, they had a mahjong puzzle!
The video trailer for the game shows a scene that didn't happen in the (SE) game. Does it happen in the CE? I couldn't tell you...
The end/confront the culprit scene was nice. I like how you get to present evidence of their guilt. And the one just stands there and lets it happen. "I'll just be standing over here quietly while you talk about me."
Overall, I really did enjoy this game. If you're a mystery fan or just a fan of the series, I think you will enjoy this game.
As a fan of the Haunted Hotel series, I was... underwhelmed, I guess, by this game. In this game, it opens with a man walking along a cliff, holding a glowing crystal. We can assume he caused the accident, and it is later confirmed. Mark and Jane had been on their way to the Alps before this accident occurred. Mark wakes up after the accident to find himself in some kind of hotel room and Jane (damsel in distress) is missing. From there, he tries to find/save his wife.
The graphics are lovely, though it gets a bit boring when the character we play as (Mark) keeps going on about having to save his wife. I guess it's understandable, but it makes for boring dialogue in some parts. Not to mention that he just goes along with the creepy scientist who caused the accident and the experiments without much thought/convincing from the other man. I did find myself missing James in this game...
The puzzles, mini-games, and hidden object scenes were good. They weren't too difficult. There is a lot of back and forth, though you can use the hint button or the map to save time.
The game isn't overly scary. There are no spirits/ghosts/whatever you want to call them. Instead we have hallucinations/delusions and some kind of "monster". The story is basically a "mad scientist causes accident to use them to save his family". I ended up beating the game in a couple hours. And the ending... I wasn't a fan of it, if I'm honest.
If you're a fan of the series... yes, it's different. It is still a good game to play if you're looking to waste a few hours, or want something to do. I do recommend playing the demo first, however, to see if you may be interested in the full game.
