With all game types, eventual comparisons are made. For example, in the earlier days of HO games, the paragons were Return to Ravenhearst and Madame Fate. Then other developers enhanced their games and now we all get some fantastic entries regardless of genre. In the world of PC grid puzzle games, the World Mosaics were the initial good games. For me the Fantasy Mosaics are now the bell cow of nanograms with game # 4 being the best ever. Unfortunately the Asian Riddles just don't cut it. In this version, there are some very tricky grids but only diehard lovers of grid games can appreciate this effort. The major downside to AR3 is the complete lack of description regarding what is being created. Have I made a butterfly, or a wagon or a cow? Who knows!! There is also no story line whatsoever. Therefore there is nothing to tie the puzzles in any level together. About the only redeeming value to AR3 is the soothing Oriental string music being played. I gave up on this game half way through the demo as it is a very poor grid game. Avoid it.
Awakening has always been one of the better series of games in the fantasy realm. The Golden Age delivers but there is something about it, at least in the demo, that does not allow me to proffer 5 stars. This may be a mistake on my part. I do intend to buy the game. Perhaps completing it would allow me to give the highest rating. In the prequel we are introduced to Prince Cedric the leader of a troupe battling opposing minotaurs for control of territory. After completing a number of tasks we arrive at a compound where one of the minotaurs has been captured. He convinces us to free him and tells a story indicating the fight between humans and minotaurs centers around a drought reputedly created by the humans. Cedric denies any involvement and is determined to solve the crisis which can bring peace to the two species. The demo ends when a terrifying dragon is introduced. There are not too many straight HO segments in the demo which took me a bit under an hour to complete. The puzzles are what make this game appealing. While they do not offer anything that we haven't seen in other games, the manner in which they must be solved does provide a fair degree of challenge. For me this installment in Awakenings is a step down graphically from its predecessors as it is a bit grainy. As with all higher priced CE's, lip movement during speaking cutscenes should be a part of all CE's. Wake up developers!! As in prior games in the series there are collectible fairies and some of them are well hidden. I'm glad there is a weekend sale, otherwise I may have waited for the SE version. I'll take a flyer on the CE only due to the appeal the series has for me in general. I hope that in continuing the game that it delivers as much as the earlier games.
Without warning, a group of mysterious figures arrives and reduces your village to flames and rubble. What do they want... and who is controlling them?
When the CE version came out, it took me 5 minutes of demo time to realize I must purchase the game. Valera is a woman whose town is destroyed by Banshees by setting it afire. During the conflagration, she acquires boots when donned render her invisible and a medallion that can animate stone items, shield her from flames etc. Her task is to rescue her abducted father and vanquish the evildoers responsible for the destruction. Her primary assistant is an archer she meets early on and lots of fantasy creatures who provide as much aid as possible. The story is enhanced during the cutscenes by instilling a degree of terror in their denouement. Graphically Dark Realm is as good as it gets. The HO segments and the puzzles are varied and all well done. Valera on occasion uses her medallion to further the story in scenes where the game player must find and locate items to continue the story. Should you seek more details, please refer to my review of the CE version. In that review I failed to mention collectible flames. Queen of Flames is in my view the best game thus far in 2014. Those of you who have not bought it should seriously consider the CE version and there is a sale this weekend. For those on a tighter budget, the SE will still fill the bill. There have been too many repetitive games this year and too many lousy games as lots of developers apparently are having brain freezes. Not in this case. Dark Realm is a gem of rare brilliance that fans of HOPA style games can easily sink their teeth into. 5 stars is not nearly enough to adequately rate the game.
A fire breaks out during a concert, and now your daughters are both missing. Hurry to track them down – their music may hold the key to life and death!
My review title simply means that game players have seen this very same game a number of times. Changing the venue, the character names, and a few other variables does not make this " a new game every day " Here we have two young and promising musicians, Amelie and Bernadette Deux, who are kidnapped by the bad guy's assistant Draco. Strange last name as Deux is French for two. Pleased to meet you Miss Two !! The opening cut scene is beyond lame. We have an orchestra consisting of boys and girls. While they are playing a tune, a fire breaks out. The parents in attendance at the concert all flee and nobody climbs onto the stage to direct their kid away from harms way. Lousy parenting skills. This is where Draco spirits the Deux girls away. Their mom is now tasked with rescuing her daughters and ultimately foiling the evildoers. In another bit of ridiculous game management, mom needs to put out the fire but first she must free the fire hose from its tethers. One would think in the realm of public safety that such an item would be easily accessible. Then we get the usual litany of things to do. Why does every developer make us find oil to lubricate a rusty hinge, find electrical tape to bind frayed wires, locate a wheel to add to some vehicle so it can be moved etc., etc, etc. I'm figuring developers all have a check list of things to make us do and in the game creation they are not satisfied until we find keys, valves, door latches and all of you know each and every item necessary. This game does give us 3 balloons which we use to raise the tail section of a World War II vintage airplane. Strong balloon or weak plane?? Crazy!!. We encounter a school headmistress who supposedly offers aid to mom but somehow as is often the case, the school head is probably another baddie. As to the game itself, there is a slight variation on the usual HOG segments. Some of the puzzles are clever which was the only part of Silent Nights that I found worth doing. The game has a jump map and if there are any collectible items, I didn't find any. Overall as I have previously stated, there is absolutely nothing NEW about Silent Nights. For this reason alone and having it multiplied by a ridiculously moronic story line I will pass. The only plus here is that I don't spend any $$$.
Every once in a while a game comes out that is a really tough nut to crack. Evil Pumpkin is nothing but a brainbuster. The only game I own that I consider harder is the diabolically hard HO game called The Magician" Handbook: Blacklore which was issued a few years ago. Should anyone be interested in self torture, Blacklore has some of the smallest items ever in a hidden object game, some seriously difficult puzzles. It's a hair puller for sure that can only be taken in small doses. Back to this game, there is no hand holding. The story line is somewhat irreverent and I generally appreciate that aspect. There are various forms of HO scenes although not too many of them in the demo and I have only completed the demo. There is a jump map which is not found in the first hour. Some puzzles are hard, the first is a slider and I hate sliders so after a long wait, it was skipped. There is lots of traipsing around from room to room. Essentially Lost Halloween is an adventure game. The player gets to collect 6 different candies ( they are well hidden in plain sight ). These confections can be used to buy Halloween related items as a side line to the game. We get so many easy HOGs, HOPAs, and other forms of games that some get really old really fast. For those of us who relish a challenge Evil Pumpkin definitely stimulates the gray matter. This game is one that can be enjoyed at any time of the year and not just during Halloween. I certainly will acquire it using a free game code. Anybody wanting more pablum, stay away. Anybody seeking mental stimulation in a game, here it is. One last caveat: this is no game for beginners.
This nanogram game is done quite cleverly. It has a humorous approach and the ghosts, gremlins, goblins, etc. are thematic and appropriately timed for the upcoming Halloween Day event.I'd imagine players enthralled both with Oct. 31st and mosaic games will jump at this entry. There are some easy grids as all of the 10 X 10's that start the game are no-brainers. After about 7 of these the 15 X 15 grids begin and there are some tough ones to be sure. I failed a couple of times and needed a redo. Keep in mind though I never use hints when attempting any grid game. For me it's all trial and error til I get it right. There are 2 reasons why this is a no buy. One is that I already have a few and for anybody who wants at least one, look no further than Fantasy Mosaic 4. Secondly, the occasional jigsaw puzzles did nothing for me. Overall, it's a really cute game that will please many folks.
I find lots of the vampire games to be run of the mill and rather boring. Not this one thanks to the folks at Eipix. This group always seem to know how to grab a player's attention and keep it throughout the game. In this edition of the wonderful Myths of the World series, I got grabbed in the opening cut scene. Our objective as a vampire hunter is to find and vanquish a notorious blood drinker named Benjamin. The early part of the game introduces us to Simon ( a fellow hunter ). We are on a steamboat wherein we need to locate the vampire's room and do him in. While on the boat we acquire tools and potions necessary to the task. We get these items by completing HO segments and solving puzzles. Up to their usual high standard, Eipix HO scenes require a bit of thought and the puzzles are complex enough to also make the game player use some brain cells. None though are so difficult as to use skips which are available if needed. Once we locate Benjamin, he of course escapes, otherwise the game ends rather abruptly. The player and Simon follow him to a swamp in which other actions on the game player's part continue the quest. We meet another vamp, a sultry woman who tries to woo us to her side but we know better than to trust her. The demo ends with the player in a town in which Simon, who has obviously been bitten, turns on the hunter by shooting him/her with an arrow. I doubt the wound is fatal !! There are collectible black roses, morphing objects, and pumpkins to gather.
As I have stated in other reviews, ultimately for me the story line must deliver in the same way a book must to keep my attention. Lots of games offer good to great HO scenes and puzzles but if the story is lame, why go on? With thousands of games in BFG's repertoire, it's the story in the great games that compel the player to continue playing. The Myths series is another saga that keeps me coming back for more. The best developers generally keep our attention with excellent series such as the Awakenings, Dark Parables, Mystery Case Files, and lots more. For Halloween fans, Black Rose should be a sure fire hit. I recommend this fine game without reservation.
I really wanted to like this game a lot but the game play itself would not bring me to do so. For starters, there was not enough fear within the characters in a game called Fear for Sale. Sure, there is a couple who escape in a taxi that seems afraid enough, but they're gone and the detective and the remaining folks in the hotel just seem too cavalier to be in a place replete with strange goings on. There is a man named Sam who is ill, his wife Caroline runs the hotel with him. It turns out she is using the detective, Emma, to her own devices to find a cure for Sam. Emma's nightmares will be a key implement. This is where the demo ends and I used up about 1/2 of the 90 minute demo time allotted. I liked some of the hidden object segments and some of the puzzles are clever. There is a useful jump map. If there are collectible items, I did not find any. I have so many excellent games in my portfolio that the story is paramount for me. There is something in 13 Keys that did not appeal to me, hence my so-so rating. I think some players will love this game and a portion that will find it abhorent. For me it's a case of MEH!! Decide for yourselves. It gets a very lukewarm thumbs up
I suppose a neophyte to straight HOGs might give this utter nonsense 2 stars. Anyone else can hardly think this disaster is worthy of even 1 star. I wish BFG would add a zero to its rating system since Travel Adventures is certainly deserving to be relegated to the absolute bottom of the barrel. As to the developer, Domini, if this is truly a NEW game and not one brought out of mothballs from a few years ago the dev should be ashamed of itself. What is even worse than the junkpile HO segments, players must endure the worst ever jigsaws, moronic fill in the dots, and of course what would this flawed attempt at a game be without find the difference puzzles. If there is a worse effort to have been foisted upon us in 2014, I cannot remember and please do not remind me. Unfortunately, BFG has once again failed in its efforts to provide a new game every day. STAY AWAY FOLKS!! Do not even demo this trash as I have already sacrificed myself on your behalves. If you do download this mess, don't ever say I didn't warn you.
It has been quite some time since a new word game has been offered so I was pleased to see this offering. Unfortunately, the game started. The premise is to construct words in a Boggle like configuration. Letters have Scrabble like values. Word making enables the Grimm Reaper to slice and dice villainous creatures as the game advances. The player garners points which can purchase potions and other devices which help defeat the bad guys. There are some letters in the grid which sometimes cannot be used as they could be poisoned or cracked etc. My primary problem with the game is it's too cutesy in its appearance. Another drag on the game is there is too much knowledge, if that is the correct term, to acquire about game play itself. Given there is some sort of a timer, merely reading all there is to learn cuts into game time. I like word games to be a bit more leisurely presented. As a result, this is a no sale for me.
