I like a game with a good story to drive it along. This one has a decent story with a couple of twists along the way that ties all the actions together. There's a lot of adventure game flavor here and some unfamiliar puzzles which was refreshing. The standard edition took me several evenings to complete, so was longer than average for me.
The graphics, sounds, and voice overs were all excellent and I didn't notice any typos, misnamed items, or translation errors, so this is a well-crafted game. There are a lot of areas to explore, and with few exceptions, you can continue to go back and forth to most of them right up until the end of the game, so it feels like a big game world.
I can't say it will make my top games of all time list, but it's a very good, solid game with a lot of entertainment value. Kudos to the developer for taking the time to flesh out a solid story line!

Really an excellent game all around. This game has some new puzzles that really challenged me, a nice blend of puzzles, HOS, and adventure elements, and it was quite long. Clearly it had been developed as a collector's edition but for some reason was released as a standard edition. It has a sort of strategy guide, hidden symbols to find, and a bonus chapter, plus there's a small secret room to explore if you find enough of the hidden symbols. I think the story could have been fleshed out a bit more, or given a plot twist or two, but it's hard to find fault when there's so much going for this game. Really a lot of entertainment value here.

s_sgs's review is excellent and very complete and even mentions the bonus chapter (which I wish more reviewers would!), but I'd like to add a comment. Yes, the bonus is a prequel, but I liked it in that it explained how everybody got where they were in the main game. However, I was hoping for some information about the messenger character and there wasn't anything about him. This is the "warden" I think--a guy who floats around wearing a mask. Yes, he makes your daughter ill, but I think only to get you to go find her father and save him. He helps later in the game as well, but you never find out why he sympathises with the husband/father and tries to thwart the evil leader.
There is an animated sequence near the end of the main game that is just beautiful, and I wondered if it was something one of the developers did just for fun and was added in. It shows a bit of background behind the leader as a boy and is very well done.
Anyway, I loved the story and the adventure aspect of this game and highly recommend it. I just wish these games had a little more complete and complex story.

As mentioned in other reviews, there is supposed to be a mysterious illness. That aspect never gets explained, nor do you ever find the evil doctor whose experiments probably caused the illnesses. The Shtriga actually helps you in your search a couple of times, so I was hoping for a plot twist there, but it never happened.
So, a good solid game, but if they had developed the story just a little further, it would have been much more interesting and satisfying.

There may not be anything earth-shattering in this game, but it's well-crafted, large, pretty, and has good voice acting. I liked that there were little touches of humor here and there, so not all doom and gloom like so many games. Adventure-heavy (yea!), hidden object-light.

Okay, it was a little on the short side, but this game has a somewhat different story that was interesting. It's creepy as all get out, not just due to the ghosts and weird beings scooting around, but because of the photos of truly disturbing old toys and mouldy artifacts.
The puzzles and hidden object scenes were some of the most unique I've seen in a long time and I thoroughly enjoyed figuring each one out. I won't describe them as I don't want to spoil your fun. I think this game is truly worth a try.

I gave this game an extra star just because I feel it's been too harshly reviewed. It is a VERY long game--about twice as long as most of the games here. There's a lot to do, many interesting locations, and a very helpful hint system.
There's a fair amount of adventure mixed in with the hidden object scenes, which is something I look for, as I'm an old-school adventure gamer.
I always like to see stories that are a little different, and this game has one. This is an enjoyable, long game that I feel gives good value for your money.

This game is heavy on the adventure but has enough hidden object scenes to keep most seekers happy as well. The hint system was very helpful, the game ran smoothly and the pace moved the story right along.
For once, there wasn't a missing loved one, an amulet, or mysterious relic involved!!! Yea for the writers!
There is a bit of back and forth involved, but I don't mind that. The music got repetitive after a while, but was mostly jazz, so a little different from the norm. I spent a good 5-6 hours on the harder mode and enjoyed it very much.

Okay, the hint system isn't all that helpful, and I had to skip a puzzle or two (darn crabs!#, but there is a walkthrough if you get stuck and this game is SOOO worth the effort!
Personally, I liked the wacky graphics, especially the animated thought balloons. The relationship Shaban has with his sheep is so sweet, and the emotions running high after the lamb #kid?) and shepard reunite, but grieve over what's happened to the other sheep is downright touching.
What a great first effort from this developer! I hope we see more in the near future! More adventure games in general, Big Fish! Thanks for this one.
I loved this game! The graphics are often beautiful, even if the subject matter is gloomy at times. It is a haunted house, after all, but lovely details everywhere. The sound effects are perfect, the music is unobtrusive and varied, mostly quite pleasant. It's not just hidden object scenes, there are puzzles and things to do, and you've got a lot of places to roam around and explore. This is a long game, perhaps the longest I've played here in years, so you definitely get your money's worth.
I have to respectfully disagree with another reviewer who didn't think this game had any adventure aspects or story. It's not a complicated story, but it is told bit by bit through gameplay and I found it interesting. As a long-time classic adventurer, I thought it did feel like an adventure game with a lot of interesting HO scenes thrown in. If nothing else, give the demo a try.
The one drawback I have to mention is that there is a considerable delay between scenes, where a floorplan is shown. I wasted time trying to use this map before I realized it was just a "wait while loading" screen.
I'd love to see more like this one. The developers clearly took their time to craft a detailed, wonderful game.
