I have already played James patterson's Women's Murder Club Little Black Lies and Twice in a Blue Moon. I bought them all at the same time without testing demos. Of the three, this is my favorite storyline. Although, the other two carried good storylines as well. Storyline is my favorite part of this series. I also much prefer that the stories are set in modern times with contemporary characters and not the constant morbidity of ghosts in a stone castle or an insane asylum. What kind of entertainment is that. Its so negative. That's my main complaint about lots of developers. Do they only know about haunted castles? Get out of the dark ages. Back to this review. Very irritatated and annoyed by tiny HO items. My eyes are alright and I had to put on my reading glasses and hold my laptop and put my face right up next to the screen. Come on. That's a ridiculous pain. That's not enjoyable. The scene's were fine, just enlarge them for reasonable viewing to play the game. Had the same issue with Twice in a Blue Moon. I would like to try the fourth one, but question whether I want to aggravate myself with the artwork. I'm going more now for Adventure games with less HOS. One last personal dislike was the limited hints and no walkthrough. I play in casual mode for fun and I don't want any restrictions as far as time or number of hints if I want them. Its heavy on the HOS if thats what you like. Good story.
I don't recommend this game.

I enjoyed the story line the most of this game. It was so refreshing to do a game in modern times. I can't hack another eerily stone castle or mansion. What is with all the negativity of these stories. That's why I enjoyed the modern realism of the James Patterson series. I, like another reviewer, felt that one part of it was gory and sick and unnecessary. Not my idea of fun. but I enjoyed the detective part and the four girls solving the crime. I, too, got stuck with the second mechanical arm.

Played the entire game.
Pros: 1. Stays true to the era of 1920's in music, scenery and HO items. 2. Particularly outstanding voice overs. Gatsby really sounded just like Robert Redford who played him in the movie. I was amazed and I loved that. 3. Stays true to the movie storyline of The Great Gatsby. I didn't read the book. 4. Enjoyed the games. But too many HOs for my liking. Its practically all HOs. Enjoyed the artwork in the fact that it was never dark or dreary. Just sad at the end as the real story was.
Cons: 1. Way too many HOs for me. In the future will not purchase heavy HOGs. I much prefer adventure, games with a mix of some HOs thrown in, but not dominating the game. 2. I found all of the scenes to be shown at too far of a distance from the player's view which made all of the objects small. Don't want to play a entire game with small hidden objects. But even at the exterior of Gatsby's mansion, the player is viewing small "everything" including the architecture of the mansion. Had the art not been so small it could have been much richer and allowed the player to feel more within the scene taking place. 3. I didn't care for the fact that there was no movement in the entire game, just flat scenes, except for one of the car driving down the street. It was very stiff. I think that's why the music and the voices were so important to give it some dynamics. But it needed more movement.
I could really see this storyline being done with richer artwork, moving figures, and larger hidden objects into an adventure game and it would be great. I recommend it for what it is, which is a HOG. If you want just mainly HOG then you'll like this game. If you want some adventure that's not what this game is.
I recommend this game!

I had to write a review and thank the developers for a beautifully crafted game on all levels. My absolute favorite part was the beautiful soothing piano music and being an old Hallmark artist, I fell in love with the graphics. I just kept studying the details of the scenes. The 3D and special effects of snow lightly falling. On and on. I could have just let the sound music play in my living room while I read a book. That's how pleasing it was. Often times in these games, the music starts to drive through your brain and becomes an irritant and annoying. This music was quite the opposite. Loved it. Getting back to the graphic scenes, I want to point out that as I studied each scene in detail, I noticed how the artists incorporated more than one light into each scene. Like an actual indirect or direct light. This made it so there were no creepy, dreary scenes. The whole game was beautifully lighted. It had plenty of atmosphere for sure but not dark. With the exception of one spot in the sewer on purpose. And the developers had special powers for that. I loved the bonus game which resolved the entire story line. I'm getting more away from HOG but again, the artwork in these made them more enjoyable than other games I've played and the items were large enough to not get eye strain. I'm not an expert level, I play at casual or relax level on purpose, cause that's what I want. No pressure. Been there done that in my life. I guess that why I could take my time and enjoy the music and study the artwork. Everything kept my attention throughout. I will point out the one flaw was the quality of a few of the figures. They did not match the level of excellence of all the other elements of the game. But I'm knit picking. Hopefully they'll work on that one point. Its minor. The game is totally worth the price of the Collector's Edition. Lots of extras. Really glad I bought it and will definitely watch for this developer's next game. No ghosts, no death, no darkness. Lets relish stories about life. My favorite of the last 13 months. Thank you Blam. Thanks Big Fish.
I recommend this game!

I really wanted to like this because I so badly wanted something that was not dark, dreary, creepy, spooky, ghoulish, death-themed, or visually based in the dark ages in castles or haunted buildings. I love anything that has an oceanic, coastal theme. But, I became so bored from the repetition of the revisiting of the same scenes. I also found the size of the items were too small for me to see easily There was no point or connection to the scenes other than geographic area.
Those are the CONS. Now the PROS: I like the brightness of the scenes and I liked the sound effects, and the oceanic setting. The pleasant atmospheric quality. After playing my first Collector's Edition Adventure Game, I have found I don't have the patience for the lack of purpose and goals in the HOG. I like a storyline that takes me somewhere in the story. I like it when you possibly learn something in the information. I guess I'm not an pure HOG player anymore. Good for beginners.
I recommend this game!
