Gardens Inc. 4: Blooming Stars Collector's Edition is better than the first and second games in the series and as good as the third. I have played it and enjoyed it twice. The plot of the back story has intrigue and surprise, not that it matters, but it still does. The game play still has those vandals to be a pain to deal with, but that does not make the game unworthy of playing. The instructions were sparse but for those of us who have played the earlier games also unnecessary. An untimed version is available and is all I will play.

Fruit Lockers is a M3 game with loads of color and motion and things to do, none of which has much in common with standard M3 games, and yet it failed to hold my interest. I started and stopped it 4 times and gave up after level 1-6. One ‘feature’ is spiders which lock certain cells. Minus 2 stars. Untimed games are allowed; plus 1 star. You have to remove certain numbers of each fruit from cells during a game but then on two levels that isn’t all. On two levels I played on and on for several minutes after the game should have been over because I had matched all the required fruit but some hidden agenda kept it running until I lost two of the game stars for absolutely no reason (or one explained). Minus 2 stars. Then there were ‘other’ sorts of games like shoot the basketball. Ick. Minus 1 star. So in the final analysis, this is not an M3 game at all. It wasn’t any fun either.

If you have liked the previous installments, this one is about the same and you should like it too. The familiar things return and basically just the story line changes. I play in relaxed mode and that denies me the bonus scenes, but I play for enjoyment and not for challenge. I think that I have laughed more playing this game than the others. I look forward to each new scene after finishing the previous one to see what will be different. I am about halfway through and I have not encountered anything strange about this game, although some of the scenes are getting rather busy even in relaxed mode.

So this is another game from the tower game masters and another game which plays similarly to the previous ones. Through multiple waves of enemies at each level the opponents get stronger and more plentiful and make more use of the shorter paths to your castle, a locomotive here. It is fun and it is challenging and I can’t play it before bed or I cannot sleep. Personally, I was happy to get this game because I was running out of games.

I found that Sweetest Thing 2 played like many time management games except that you sent minions out to collect jelly with a pick axe and waited while they chopped it free. OK, so a suspension of disbelief is necessary to even understand how to play but by level 3 I went up the ladder too soon and then ran out of time on multiple click mode. Game over. So I set the game to No Timer, thinking naively that the timer would not run. It did. In level 3 the second time I actually could have finished easily but I waited for the timer to run out and got game over again. OK. Trial Over. No Sale. Garbage.

This is presented as a M3 game, but really it is more of a collection of M3 and spot the difference and mahjong. There is a rather juvenile back story which demands to be noticed, as whenever I accumulated over 250 gold coins it stopped play and made me “buy something”. The Mahjong is a dumbed down version without the problems of some deals being unwinnable. The M3 play is characterized by ladybugs crawling around and frozen coins which need to be melted by leading fire to them, so it isn’t a real M3 at all. The games are fairly easy to win and some things are more fun than others. I enjoyed the ladybugs because job one was to kill every one and then play the M3. The spot the difference is a mixture of easy and small, hard to spot, differences. There are hints and the scenes can be skipped. Mahjong can also be skipped.

This game begins every level with a painfully slow exploration of the surroundings, during which you probably need to formulate a strategy for the coming game. Once the game begins, certain material shortages must be addressed in order not to be required to start over again. I had to restart at least three levels after running out of materials and being stymied in attempts to recover. The first five minutes of the first level of the game includes an overload of information which no one could be expected to absorb. Rather, one needs to read the instructions and try to play. Then, when all else fails, stop and read the instructions again. Sounds like work, and it is, but this is an adventure game devoid of minigames, HOGs, or M3s. It is different! I wish the exploration were faster, as the fastest level I played was an hour and the longest was 4 hours, but that is just how it is. You build a settlement and then when you accomplish the goals you move on. The settlement may or may not be very complete, but you are moved on anyhow. Along the way you learn how to do things to complete future levels. That may not be the way it seems, but a level or two later you probably will remember how it was back a level or two earlier and try that strategy. My opinion on rating this game; this is a slow adventure game which cannot be rushed. It isn’t the usual game and that makes it occasionally frustrating. If you get on board for the long run, however, it can become quite fun. Despite my initial misgivings, and all the cuss words I wasted on it, overall I think it was quite entertaining.

This was another game which could not hold my interest for 5 minutes. After some initial instructions, it went right into a minigame with no instructions and no possible solution. I clicked and clicked and then finally figured out that while you can skip any minigame you have to wait several minutes before you can skip it. It seems to be sort of a penalty for being bored with minigames. That was too long for me to wait when I was expected to pay money for the game. This was a miserable attempt at a game and a dismal failure in my books.

Gunspell is a pseudo M3 with the difference that the M3 portion seems to be only an excuse to launch into some sort of made for television story with no point and no interest. You make your move and then the enemy makes theirs. No word on who or what the enemy is, just an enemy which makes poor choices of moves on the same board you were using. If you try to lose, you still win. This becomes a turn based game like tic-tac-toe with all kinds of extra nonsense of some kind of spy thing. I lost interest within 5 minutes. Quick no vote. Bad game.

Brownies is not a great game and only a so-so game, but considering that few adventure games are coming our way, mediocre is the best we can expect. This game has an untimed mode but still there are many annoying and stupid hazards, vermin, to interrupt play and lower the fun value. I recommend it only because it is better than the HOGs currently being offered. Judging by what Big Fish offers, I'd guess that there are few adventure games offered. I played it until the end, over about 7 days, but it was as much work as fun.
