This story is so similar to the last entry in the Enchanted Kingdom series, I briefly wondered if I could just use the last review. I decided that was the coward's way out and finished the demo anyway.
So magical plague breaks out and turns the citizens into monsters. Locals are abandoning their villages and running from the victims. As the top Healer of the Medico Imperium Order, you are sent by the order's head, Dr Klein, to investigate.
You will take your trusty healer's kit and Diagnostic lens and head off for the first village, Rivershire. The local Warrior of Rivershire, Xander, had stumbled into headquarters as you were meeting with Dr. Klein. He was your first successful cure of this outbreak.
Go get 'em, Healer!
Good stuff: All the usual game elements, including a Match game alternative to the HOPs, collectible coins, eggs, and medallions, along with an assortment of CE bling.
Bad stuff: The story is so similar, I checked my game notes thinking I had already played this one!
The Healer's kit and Lens have you identify and procure five ingredients for each potion you make. You will need a different potion for each person you cure. There is a mini-game to finish the potion and then they drink it and you move on.
The artwork is so overly colored there must be an ink shortage somewhere.
And, yes, the scenes still have that distressing fuzz-out in between them.
The characters will move their lips when talking, just not in sync with what they say.
Bottom line: This is an inoffensive repeat of a general story line with new details. The game play is average, as are the details.
Try it, you might like it.

After a great war, won only when the King traps the evil witch, Drosera, in a mirror portal to another dimension, the king's party is traveling home. When he falls deathly ill, the king entrusts his small son, Fern, to your care. You, the alchemist, are to raise Fern to be an even better king than his father before him. Fast forward to the day before the now grown Fern's coronation. You have taught him to be so trustworthy that he has a secret girlfriend. He is so mature that he climbs out a castle window to meet her. And he is so intellegent that he sees no reason not to show her the witch’s prison mirror in it's secret hiding place!
Naturally, all this good work you've done to raise the prince will result in a dire situation as the witch tries to escape her prison and manages to drag Fern into the other dimension.
Good stuff: All the usual game elements in a color saturated world with another evil entity trying to take over. There are collectible roses and some CE bling.
Bad stuff: Those logic problems start right from the beginning and get bigger as you go along. Your first goal is to make a cup of cocoa for the young prince, who is up late. We'll gloss over the number of steps to that sugarless cocoa.
You will make a lot of potions up from recipes that appear as needed. Each one will need three items found before you can play several levels of a matching puzzle and get the potion.
Remember you are an alchemist, someone who practices a form of chemistry and speculative philosophy from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and concerned principally with discovering methods for transmuting baser metals into gold and with finding a universal solvent and an elixir of life. Yet the Devs have you ask Fern to hand you the Grimoire - a manual of magic or witchcraft used by witches and sorcerers and something you would not have had around the young prince you were trying to educate.
There's more, lots more, like the prince's falcon in a tiny cage in his bedroom, molting like he has mange! A castle with vines growing throughout the great library! And the prince going to show Rose the mirror prison of the witch hidden in a garden maze and the girl is already there. (So why did she need him to come with her?)
I'll leave you to explore the Demo. Please try the new chapter in the Lost Grimoires series for yourself.
I don't recommend this game.

Alice Carpenter, Guardian of the Border between fairy tale Spectra and Earth, is once again setting out to save both realms from evil, this time in the forms of King Solas and the Shadows of Oblivion. She will have a magic lamp to cure minor wounds and a special bracelet to send power balls of wind, fire, and ice against her enemies. She will travel through portals between worlds trying to set things right, again.
Good stuff: You will not die of boredom while playing the Demo unless you are older than ten to twelve years old.
Bad stuff: I'm not sure where to start. Do I mention the incredibly simple puzzles, mini-games, and HOPs geared to small children? The mishmash of story that has two villains that may, or may not, be working together? The bland characters? The VO's? The unimpressive group of CE bling?
All of those elements combine to make a game that I would not try out on my eight to twelve years old grandchildren. They've played many of my games and would be appalled at the low level of skill needed for this one.
Once again here is a really good reason to try a demo before wasting your time and money on a game. Please try the demo before you commit to this poor little thing.
I don't recommend this game.

I always think that I may like a SE version better than the CE, just for the break on the price as the extra chapter in CEs are shorter and add nothing to the overall story.
This time I was disappointed, which is not unusual. The biggest sorrow in this game is the story line, which is just odd,
The King and Queen have twin daughters, one of whom is born with a curse mark on her body. So oneis imprisoned in an ice lake and banish. The other is sent to a monastery with a nanny. Theoretically both girls sleep through the first 25 years of their lives.
Fara, in the monastery, awakens from a bad dream at the end of her 25 years nap and Nanny sends her to find keys and seals and other gratuitous objects to get out of the locked monastery and rescue her sister who, Nanny guesses, is in peril.
Good stuff: Maybe this is the last game in the series.
Bad stuff: Everything else! The story makes no sense. The puzzles and HOPs are very familiar. Almost everything is locked and sealed. If it is not locked and sealed, it is frozen or missing.
The new Nanny character has bandages that encompass a weird headdress and her eyes, leaving the impression that she is blind. This is not the slow meandering Nanny we've come to dislike in the series. This is a whole new one to frown upon.
You play as Fara, the princess left to sleep away her first 25 years in the monastery. You are awakened by a nightmare of your sister, Sybil, in peril. You hope off your couch already to do battle to rescue her. Presumably you have no need of food, clothing, or facts.
The first few games in this series were better than the ones we've been seeing lately. Unfortunately this new entry is a giant leap downwards.
Please play the demo to see if you see something I missed out on while slogging through the demo.
I don't recommend this game.

They are all rolled up together in a tale rumored to be a take off on Snow White, off being the key word. You play as both Princess Lily and King William, alternating between the two lead characters as in earlier Dark Romance games.
Good stuff: HOPs with a Match-3 alternative, puzzles, and a story of sorts.
Bad stuff: I was hoping that the SE would be more tolerable than the CE. No.
If another reviewer hadn't pointed out that this is meant to be a take-off on Snow White, I wouldn't have known that. And apparently it is possible to make a fairy tale be really annoying and this is the one for me.
The Wicked Queen is over the top, the two main characters are just too much all together.
Lily is supposed to be hiding out in fear of her life and opens the door at the first knock.
King William seems to be unable to function in his hero role - He enters a "secret" passage that not only the guards, but wicked Queen Nivella all know about. He gets to the end and walks right into the Queen's henchman and is again imprisoned by the evil Queen.
The Fairy has an irritating high pitched voice and is just too, too precious.
The alchemist is once again a magician rather than an alchemist. He has to have a special potion found for him to "recover" from his last experiment and then has Lily concoct the curse cure because he is still stiff from his mistake. As soon as she is done, he turns into a large bird and flies off with the aid for William. Stiffness must not apply to wings.
I felt as though I'd stumbled over a middle school game. Everything, including the color palette, was over the top and over-wrought.
The running back and forth was seemingly endless and no one really thought this thru in development. Even at the lower price for an SE, this game is just not worth it!
Please play the demo and judge for yourself.
I don't recommend this game.

Ancient ruler transfers his soul transfer into a dagger before his rebellious subjects can remove him from power. A police station is attacked by a someone wielding that same dagger with disasterous results. What can all this mean? That you will be called in to help investigate by Detective Duncan.
Good stuff: Really impressive HOPs, puzzles, and mini-games, along with a supernatural mystery, great artwork, and CE bling with eight collectible figurines and hidden crowns in each scene.
Bad stuff: I really like the story and the game play, but I had to deduct one star for bad logic, which reared it's ugly head and kept me from completely enjoying the story and game play. I won't depress us both by listing the sad details, but hopefully you can see past them.
The bottom line: This is a really interesting game with multiple layers in almost every puzzle and HOP. Please try the Demo and see what we all found so interesting!
I recommend this game!

You play as a lady agent and good old Sam is not around to help you. You are contacted while on vacation and told to get to an auction house in Geneva, Switzerland, to bid on an artifact, the Golden Wheel. It has something to do with the origins of H.E.L.P. You win the auction and lose the artifact in the parking lot when an unsuccessful bidder mugs you. Dr Layla Perkins was with you, but apparently is useless in an emergency. You work out the mugger's identity and H.E.L.P. headquarters sends you to Germany. They believe that the mugger is working with a former H.E.L.P. agent gone rogue.
You will need to retrieve the Golden Wheel and anything else you can find and get out alive!
Good stuff: There will be collectible signs in the scenes and morphing objects in some of the HOPs. There are all the expected game elements in an H.E. series game including some of their best artwork and VO's to date.
Bad stuff: There is very little logic in what is going on with the story. Why would an old diary that the rogue agent stole when he defected and the Golden Wheel be vital objects needing to be retrieved? There is nothing to indicate why there should be any urgency in chasing the bad guys down.
As there is little to recommend the CE over an SE, since recent experience has shown those Eipix Bonus chapters have short duration and little content, I will wait for the SE and try the Demo again.
In the meantime, I would highly recommend the very early H.E. games. And please play the demo before buying this new H.E. entry.

Detective Gingertail Fox is called to help out an old girlfriend. She is being murdered but the bad guy gives her time to make a phone call!
This is all a mild send-up of old Film Noir mysteries. We will help Fox find Barbara's killer, eventually, if he stops getting knocked out!
Good stuff: I really liked the artwork - most of it seemed really well done. The characters were a bit over the top and their dialogue a bit cheesy - as in the old films. There were a variety of HOPs and puzzles.
Bad stuff: Logic flaws abound - the drill you put together uses the DRILL BIT to UNSCREW a grate. You see silhouettes passing windows of a SLIM figure in a hoodie and never check to see who it is - and then the BIG hulking bad guy shows up to knock you out again. There are, of course, more flaws, but not as egregious as a lot of recent games!
Also I could have easily done without the fight puzzles.
But there is lots to do and the story is a mystery. And since there is no actual necessity for an SG, the game is a better value in an SE and got an extra star for that fact. All and all an OK effort, but not a barnburner!
Give the Demo a try and see if you want to be a rough and tough detective!
I recommend this game!

Each reviewer seems to have seen something different in this game's story. It might be any of the lines given as there is little to go on.
You are with your husband, Theodore, and he is hoping the two of you will be able to settle on this attractive little island. And then he puts a hole in your boat. The two of you land and while you are looking around for something to patch the boat, a witch mesmerizes Theodore and takes him to the top of a nearby cliff. By the time you catch up to them he is a t the edge of the cliff and then... They are gone. You rush off to the nearby town - fixing a ferry to get there. First local you meet tells you that most likely you will never see your husband again. You will need to go to the castle to get information, but you won't get in the front door. She suggests climbing in a window. So your quest to find Theodore starts.
Good stuff: There are the usual HOPs, mini-games, and puzzles, along with bright artwork, a few characters, and a story. There will be collectible signs in each scene and morphing objects in every third scene, along with CE bling.
Bad stuff: The story only seems straight forward - until the witch breaks character to ask for help! Now we may have a mystery along with our missing person quest.
The usual logic breaks are glaring - a pair of gloves in a cage behind two vicious dogs to use to climb the raspberry vines on the castle walls to climb in a window the witch came by and broke open minutes before. There's more; have fun.
This looks so much like a whole boat load of other games that I fully understand the charges of several reviewers that this is a cookie cutter game.
You will have to try the demo and see if this is a boat you want to ride!
I don't recommend this game.

I like puzzle games, mostly as a foil for the HOPA games I play. A good brain teaser is a nice respite from running around saving the world.
This is a nice little gem that you won't buy for the story, but you may buy for the simple fact that you will need sharp eyes to find all the matches. And all that searching, matching, and solving will set you up for your next HOPA game.
There is a nice mix of puzzles and matching games and you get to choose which type of game you play for bonus levels.
The story is so minimal that it can be dispensed with if you don't want to read the bits on screen - there are no VO's.
I've been looking for a different type of game to rest from the HOPAs I usually play.
I think I found it!
Try the demo and enjoy.
I recommend this game!
