If you expect a game where you can skip some tedious shooting game - this one is not for you. You can't.
If you expect your hints to be non-irritating, this game is not for you - when in that shop in town, I searched for the 8th bag of powder. It showed me drawer number 5 or drawer number 8 - and the bag was completely elsewhere.
But the first is the biggest drawback for me. I do not want a shooting game in a Hidden-Object game. And if shooting an enemy several times is the key to pass on, and there is no way around it, I get frustrated after several tries. If I wanted to shoot enemies, I would play something else. And no, the walk-through did not help.
I liked the storyline, though I miss the little spidery evil puppet and have to say it was not very complex. That is why I only give 4.
With not very complex I am NOT talking about the puzzles, I always play in casual mode, so I will not remark on those.
The story was very straightforward, that is what I mean with not complex. There were no real obstacles in it, no dertours (or at least not serious ones). Given that I could not go on with the bonus chapter (tried three times) I am only recommending the normal edition.
What I hate most in a game is when I have no chance of getting on just because I cannot solve a puzzle. Here you need to rearrange the shards of a crystal, quite early in the game. And while I managed to get three out of five pieces to their place (after several trials, never knew why the parts pop back) the last two things just won't let themselves be placed - and no, I am not mistaking the pieces - they are rather distinct! Without that [insert swear word of choice here] crystal the story won't go on. There was no way of skipping that part after I had tried the umpteenth time. I hate it when that happens. Only had it once before in one of the Ravenhearst-games ... I am pretty easy to please when it comes to games, but to be robbed of the chance to finish it without seeing the tiniest mistake in my doings is so frustrating that this time I am really miffed.
I like it, when I buy a collector's edition and it really is a bonus, a small game in itself, a nice addition. This was all three. After collecting all the 10 gems to break the witch's curse this time, with a lot of mini-games included, you are trying to gain control over the magic book. As usual, some games were slightly repetitive. But I can't complain about being too easy, played on the easy level and still had to skip some of them ;) The included Strategy Guide was helpful. Used it sometimes, when I was too lazy to try out all my options. I like games in which I move around a lot - this was one of them. And I liked the HOS - not too obscure. Some parts interactive. Will buy another Echoes of the Past game, when they bring it out.
This collector's edition was absolutely worth it - I had nearly more fun doing the bonus adventure than I had throughout the game before. The game: you are kept from an untimely death, but to leave a cursed island you need to help three souls to fulfil their goals to find peace. The bonus: on your tour back you have got to search a wrecked ship for four cursed stones. Easy? Well, I played the easy version. So yes, but I still had fun. I love games where I run around a lot - this was one of them. Somebody commented about blood and gore - well, the starting sequence had it - thankfully not too graphically- but that was it. You don't walk around kneedeep in guts and corpses! A few skeletons on the way, but hey, the game is named redemption CEMETERY - I expect things like bones in games with cemetery in their name. I liked the included Strategy Guide and I used it - call me lazy. It was helpful and solved all my problems.
I liked it more than part one. The scenes to explore were tied together more logically by the story. (That is the 5 marks for Storyline) The hidden object scenes were fine with me. Did not use the help button too often. The riddles - I'm sure with more patience I could have done them all, but patience is not my strongest feature ... Still I think some things were a little bit too easy, that is the 3 marks for Challenge. I had a lot of fun playing, hence 5 marks there and I loved the pictures - 5 marks there. Music - well - I hardly ever play a game with music on throughout the whole time ...
I recommend this game!
