It really depends on what you want from a game as to whether you will like it too! The graphics are photographic quality - very clear and bright. There is a map which is useful. The music is unobtrusive. The dialogue is optional and of the read only type. The story is OK if you can go with spirits that take care and protect their environment due to a past connection. And if you like HOS they are there aplenty. The sites for the HOS are repeated but there are different things to find and I liked to see if and what I could remember. There is also an inventory component to the game and enough of a challenge there to keep the brain ticking. It is not a difficult game but I did not find it over easy either. I think it is at least worth a trial look before you buy. I did and I was not disappointed.
This is not a standard HO game although there are a few such scenarios. The majority of tasks however are finding items and using them elsewhere interspersed with mini puzzles which are relatively simple (as opposed to perplexing as described above). My favourite is the goblinjongg. That said this is a beautifully crafted game with well done voice overs, bright and clear scenarios, relaxing music and the goblins are delightful especially Boris. If you like fairies, goblins, magic and unicorns this game is for you. It is one of my all time favourites. Thank you Boom Zap.
I recommend this game!

The Missing: A Search and Rescue Mystery
A group of college students have gone missing from a remote island in the Pacific Ocean. You are called in to rescue them, but nothing is as it seems.
On the plus side the graphics are good - clear and sharp. The music is ho-hum as with most games. The story is of a fairly standard run-of-the mill type with some people missing and you are out to save and rescue them with a portion of magic and mystery thrown in. The HOS vary between standard search, find and click from a list with others being silhouettes to search, find and click. In addition you are looking for a set number of a special item (useful in a part of the game). The mini puzzles are varied and some had me heading for the walkthrough (I will never be able to class myself as an expert because of these pesky puzzles!). On the downside I just could not have cared less about the outcome and I did not like the solution used for the released spirit. It is an OK game for a special but I want more from a full pricer.
This is the third in the series and it definitely lives up to expectations. Each explores a variation on a theme but stands alone so you do not need to have played one to play another. However the way the theme is developed is excellent and the developers have in no way rested on their laurels. The portals to other times add interest and the relevance of the time period to the items in the HOs shows an attention to detail lacking in other games. There is a lot of detail to be had in the HO's, the use of inventory items, and the mini puzzles. The bonus game is of good length and the Strategy guide is easily accessible without leaving the game. This series is one of 3 all time favourites (the others being Dark Parables and the Awakening series).
The second in the series, this game follows the theme of the previous game and extends it well. The graphics are excellent and the releasing of various characters develops the story. The level of challenge is higher than the other game and, although I haven't timed it, it feels longer. My only negative is the time penalty if a mini puzzle is skipped. It is probably sour grapes saying that, as I did skip a couple!!!!!! The book is helpful to check objectives and I like that you can earn more hints (as in the previous game). I also like that both games in this series ask you to replace items in a scene - a reverse HO if you like.
I have just replayed this game for the umpteenth time and enjoyed it as much this time as I did the first. I find the balance between HOS, puzzles and inventory items just about perfect but I am a HO addict! Although you are directed back to the scenes it is to hunt for something different so that is not so irritating. Although there is no map the scenes are fairly easy to navigate and there is not too much backtracking. The dialogue does not dominate the storyline and is almost a rest between chapters! The first time I played it took 2hours 40 minutes this time one hour and forty minutes. I like that I can attempt to beat myself. Some reviewers must have different versions to mine as I did not know of any morphing objects. What am I missing?
There is something about this game I do not love but have not worked out the reason yet. The graphics are OK although the HOS are a bit crowded and the definition is not the best but they are do-able. The music is soothing with a nice slow relaxing pace - I hate it it when it is "urgent" rushing you on for no good reason. If you can accept the theory of a curse then the story is believable too. I did find the last action one performs is in my opinion a cheap way out. The mini puzzles are about the right level of difficulty for my taste. So what is not to love? It comes down to the missing X factor that is there for me in the Dark Parable series and others and not in this. So four stars instead of five!
I have already bought the other Mystic Diary and liked it so as a Spooky special this game was attractive. It was even better when I discovered I liked it even more than the first! The trial passed really quickly so I was quick to purchase. Why do I like it? The HOS are acceptable visually and it is possible to find all that is listed with patience. The characters are presented interestingly and add to the story without detracting from it. The mini games are generally fairly easy but one or two tested the brain but the skip button is there if all else fails. Use of inventory items is generally logical although you do have to wait a while to solve some situations. The ending is believable within the magic of the story. Being a HO fan I love the excess of HOS at the end! It is not the best game on the market so I cannot give it 5 stars but it is fun for Intermediate level players and challenging for beginners. Experts may find it boring.
I had high hopes for this game after the other excellent reviews but I found it irritating and tedious. It is a good length so there is value for money in that. However I found the story uninteresting, the Ho's dark and cluttered, the to and fro annoying and some of the solutions to the use of inventory items weird. I do not want to do a spoiler but the use of the strawberries had me scratching my head!! Looking for a 'dark mark' as an HO in a scene that was dark anyway had me irritated. And as for the ending ....... well words fail me. Three stars for the length of it but I will not be rushing to play this one again
On the plus side the graphics are beautiful - clear and bright and easy on the eye. The piano music is pleasant and appropriate to the scenarios. The HO's are simple and easy to spot. The storyline is pretty basic and has little depth but I have played games with worse ones. The puzzles are simple and if you cannot work out what to do the answer is there on screen with just a couple of clicks. So if you want a pretty, simple game to relax with that does not challenge the brain this is the game for you. However if you want challenge and complexity you will be disappointed
