A boy in a bed, a man sitting at his side, a gameboard on the cover. The boy seems scared, but the man is calming him: “Everthing will be ok, we’ll be just fine’, then throws the dice and everything vanishes In blue smoke…..
We are in Delphi on a vacation with our adventurous friend Christine. Under a stone plate we find a board game. On opening the cover Christine – the game just takes her in. Where is she now? Inside a board game? We must find out and go after her. In the next step we are prepared for the game: It is the game of three worlds. The one of Elves, the one of Dragons and the third one, is that of the Trolls. To come out of the game you must pass all 3 stages. So your first halt is in the Elves’ world. There you meet the Shaman of these creatures. He tells you more about the game: Behind it is a man named Charles. He invented it and everybody in it, so all are pawns and it is designed, that nobody entering, can win. If somebody makes too much progress, Charles will interfere and sabotage the players. But you will find allies on your way and together you may stand a chance.
There is no helper in this adventure. We have many interesting puzzles with the well-known easy/hard option, a few HO scenes, varied in type with the option to play Match-3. Story is a nice variant of a board game in which you are a figurine, designed to stick in it forever. So your wits shall make the difference. Artwork is great, music ok and we have lots of collectables.
I recommend this game!

Welcome to Outlive – the survival show! A reality show with a special: the participants fight for their lives on a deserted island. The main part is over by now and the season finale is about to be broadcasted from the studio in reality show format with the winner present: Fleur. When you enter the Outlive Fan Bar at LA, all guests are eagerly waiting for the start of the show and their eyes are focused on the big TV screen above the bar. You can get some information on the show and your drink, then the show starts. But the interview with Fleur is interrupted by a crash, the TV screen bursts and a radiation emanates from behind it on all watchers in the bar. They are hypnotized and paralyzed at the same time. You are not, as you play as Nathaniel, well known from your first adventure in Amsterdam, where your psychic abilities came handy in solving a case of ritualistic murders. Due to those abilities you are immune to the strange radiation. After managing to switch off the power, the radiation stops but the bartender and the others had collapsed, their life force has been literally sucked out. What now? Your first objective has to be the studio, where the show was broadcasted. The intro has already shown, there is someone or something, wanting revenge.
In your investigations you use your special ability to see, what is hidden by magic. You don’t need glasses or another device, you only have to touch your tattoo. So you ‘find’ the studio: the scenery arises out of nowhere, so to speak, the studio, the streets, a fountain on an previously empty square. The transition from the hidden to the revealed happens smoothly, like a scene change in a movie. So the use of the tattoo to see behind the curtain is no additional task but adds to the fast paced flow of the plot. HO scenes are variable and creative, puzzles not very challenging, though quite solid. Dialogues have a choice of reaction on your side. I don’t think your choice will influence further action decisively. Language is used here as an additional entertaining feature. Dry comments, such as ‘Time, to get to the bottom of this television caper’, almost bring a sense of more or less black humour into the story. As in the first game of the series, we have the main game plus two bonus chapters. It is a refreshing variation of the theme ‘investigator of the supernatural’.
I recommend this game!

Grim Façade, The Message, offers a story on a medium, who is murdered with us standing before her window but not able to get in and help in time. Finally, but after she’s been stabbed with a knife, we can enter her house through the window and talk to the dying woman. In our attempt to rescue her, we get in touch with her wounds - our hands are smeared with her blood, when minutes after our entry, the police is at the door and immediately arrests us for murder. Being electroshocked in the arrest, we awake in the cell and the murdered medium appears, as in a dream, talks to us and shows ways to get out of prison, to help her, save her soul.
Later we are allowed to have a look at the case folder. Apparently a man has come up who alleges to be a witness to the murder.
Next scene: we are in her house and learn, that her murderer wants her soul and by that her powers. We have to assemble our device (the one, we got used to in the preceding games of the series) and search for souls. Again there are coins for us in the game, with those we are able to buy useful things, as first of all a fare to the witness, the owner of the city‘s auctionhouse.
Coming there, he has been taken prisoner too, sits bound in a chair, threatened by a tricky trap. His attacker has left tasks for us to solve - a couple of puzzles, then he is free. He had been bribed to testify and when he backed out of the foul trade, was taken himself. Behind his attacker seems to be the publisher of the town’s newspaper, the Mardano Daily, who bribed him in need of a good story. He acts as our merchant further in the game.
At the newspaper’s headquarters we finally learn more about the police officer, who arrested us in the first place - he seems to be behind the murder and more weird things in this game.
Puzzles are so-so. Not all very easy, some quite redundant and well-known to all players. HOS are ok, nothing special. As this is a Grim Façade - again the device ! In the first games it was new and had a certain charm, now it just takes time. Amusing detail is the merchant, where we, same procedure in every game, buy our stuff.
A con against this game are the tiny steps in which we sneak through our tasks in the beginning at the house and in the cell. One big pro for the game is the story and of course the visual pleasure.
I recommend this game!

We begin in the wonderfully creepy atmosphere of a campfire story: a group of young people around a fire at the edge of a forest, laughing and joking, taking a video of the trip. But soon this takes a turn: Jane is missing. In the tent we take the rewind the camera tape and watch the sequence. Was there something behind her? Could well be just a shadow on the take but we need to find Jane. Mark goes first, through a clearing. We follow and see a guy with Jane, he has thrown her over his shoulder. We follow through the forest and finally reach an abandoned looking estate. Soon we realize, we are not welcome and when we find a graveyard with several older and newer sloppily heaped graves. By now it has become a question of life or death.
A horror story with all features, you need: the setting has this Gothic feel with the old ruined mansion and the blue-grey fog around it and in the forest. We get clues, the fog may have caused disease outbreaks, it may be poisened with impurities in the exhaust air from the Nelville Refinery.
Of course we have a lot of puzzles and HOS, both variable and partly quite creative. The biggest plus for me is the setting with a suspenseful story.
I recommend this game!

Santa is on his way on Christmas Eve, when his sleigh is knocked out of the sky by a sudden storm. Ms Santa and Jack Frost ask you, a demi god, for help. Yours is the power of fire magic and you are able to get to the island, over which Santa went down.
A really magical game with a suspenseful story and gladly not all these too sweet additions, often added to the seasonals. HOS are quite creative, some multi-layered. Puzzles vary in difficulty but I found all interesting. Nice: some offer the option of hard or easy. The biggest plus for this game for me is the story, which varies a Christmas theme in a suspenseful manner.
I recommend this game!

An old house with a ‘history’, a vanished family, a possessed girl – a truly adventurous ride with Dupont! ‘Morella’ is a short story by E.A, Poe, with the question of the identity of two different persons in the center. The idea of the gothic story has been turned into an obsession by a demon and a house, called the Devourer of Souls, built on a site, which was rumored to be a gateway to the spirit world. Morella is the one, who originally lived in this house with her husband.
Rufus McDougall’s nephew Mark, his wife Louisa and their adopted daughter Lilly have disappeared from their house. He asks Dupont for help. As usual our role is assistant to Dupont and we meet him in front of a dark sinister looking mansion. Dupont enters but before we can follow, a wall builds itself in the door. After managing our way through the window, we are confronted with the house’s spook: the girl, together with other strange phenomena. She looks very much like Lilly, though this girl has black hair. Behind a door we find Louisa McDougall, who can tell us, spirits have attacked the family and took her husband and the daughter. But she is imprisoned in a water reservoir, in the outdoor fireplace on the terrace.
Then we will face the demon and we’ll have to find the means to fight him and free the family. One of it is the amulet, Lilly wore, when she came to the McDougalls. She has been chosen by the dark force in the house, but after using the amulet and setting her free, we are the one, whose body is the vessel. There must be more to destroy the dark spirit.
A dark game with a menacing atmosphere. The visuals are great, cutscenes underline the demonic theme and the characters are well drawn. We learn about the house, its former inhabitants and especially Morella, in the course of the game. HOS vary, we have lists, more multilayered ones. Minigames and puzzles are medium difficult but all are enjoyable with good instructions.
I recommend this game!

Christmas is everywhere, even in the magic realm of Oz. It will be their first celebration and you, Dorothy, are to join the festivities. Yes, you play as Dorothy and it will not be a holiday without complications, as there are not only the nice and well behaving…
After you made it to Oz, your old pal the Scarecrow greets you but then a strange attack happens – the richly decorated Christmas tree falls on Scarecrow, the bag with all gathered presents is emptied by ghosthand. They vanish in green smoke. Somebody must be behind this. Following the green smoke will lead you to the criminals, whoever they may be. And you weren’t Dorothy, if you wouldn’t start your pursuit.
It turns out, the goblins are behind the attack of the first Christmas celebration in Oz. They have been forgotten and take revenge by sabotage of all the preparations. Now it is up to you to save Christmas in Oz with all your friends.
We have a lot of entertaining minigames and puzzles, where you may choose difficulty. HOS are variable. On the whole, pace is good, though some tasks are fulfilled in tiny steps. Another special feature: Toto. We have a helper in this game. Toto is not optional and all, who do not really like this feature, have to tolerate him.
I recommend this game!

The portal between the worlds has been violated. The Dark Lord Ezra has escaped his prison and is searching for the key to dismantle the Tree of Life, which keeps the other world and the real world apart. He intends to brings darkness to the universe and enslave people as well as witches. You are the Ancient One, the witch, who defeated Ezra once. Resurrected by Anabel and equipped with your Grimoire, you shall hinder Ezra from getting the key and preserve the border between the worlds.
Seems, this game will renounce of helper-ferret Bertha but use special magic instead. You’ll be equipped with the Grimoire: an ancient book of recipes for magic potions, talismans or other devices to use to protect or to fight. The application of those come with puzzles on the easy side.
Graphics have improved, we still have a rich environment to play in and may discover many details. HOS are varied often come along in multiple steps. First you have to replace objects in a picture, then get a list with items to find. Puzzles are not new but partly creative. There is no choice of difficulty, most are quite easy or medium challenging.
The story deviates from the concept, the games followed after introducing Bertha, the were-ferret. After the prologue or introductory part, we play as the ancient One and fight Ezar. To our assisstance is the Grimoire with which we construct or brew helpful devices or potions. Away from more cute elements and a helper, this game presents itself as a dark game, even creepy in parts. White magic will battle dark magic, personified in the ancient one and the ancient ghost of evil, Ezar.
I recommend this game!

Christmas is near and if not already, a Christmas story will bring about the spirit.
We are invited to a Royal Ball in honor of Christmas and the wedding of Prince Edward and his bride Rose. On arriving at the gates, we cannot get in, they are closed. But we meet a fox, who readily will help us. He hasn’t always been a fox but shortly before the wedding should start, a witch entered the halls and put a curse on everybody. Edward became a boy again, he, the best man, a fox and the bride Rose a flower. But there is hope, the broken clock has to strike 12, then the curse will be broken.
The best man or now the fox, will accompany us through the game and assist in our task to free them all by breaking the curse.
A rich scenery with the seasonal touch, lots of morphs, collectibles and refreshing dialogues between assistant fox and us, make it easy to get into the game. HOS and puzzles are well designed and neither too easy nor really challenging. But in spite of all the Christmas decoration, for me this game is more a fairy tale, in which the evil fairy comes along, puts a curse on the wedding party which may be broken. No Santa Claus, no special Christmas theme – is it a Christmas Story after all? For me not really.
I recommend this game!

A golden bust from Diana’s exhibition in the museum is stolen. But this case is special. The guard, sitting in front of his monitors, is alarmed by a signal of the motion detector. On one monitor he sees an alien creature. Hypnotized by the alien’s stare, he sets off to the room, breaks the showcase, takes the golden artifact and jumps out of the window, then running away with it.
Diana learns about the incident, when she comes to work in the museum. The broken showcase holds her exhibition and she realizes, what is missing. With the help of the bust’s GPS code, she can determine its location and starts off to pursue the thief. The navipad leads her to an abandoned place. There the thief throws the bust into a dried up well. It is David, the guard, but Diana won’t question him, instead she goes after her exhibit first. At the bottom, the well looks like a decorated worship chamber. Standing in a ritualistic circle she accidentally activates a portal and falls into another world. She lands in front of an ancient temple. With no apparent way back, Diana enters the temple and meets an old man, Kitron, who introduces himself as guard of a dangerous prisoner, the demon Rhitoris.
We are back in a blend of fantastic sci-fi with co-existing worlds. Diana enters through a portal, that immediately closes. On the one hand our protagonist finds her way via modern devices as navipads but is trapped in an ancient culture, where she has to meet challenges without the technical achievements. It is more an adventure game with more challenging mini games and mult-layered HOS mostly. The animations, artwork, and graphics are simply beautiful. Music is suiting and I like the characters. Diana is not drawn as a hero, able to answer all challenges without batting an eyelid. So it is easy to follow her as the protagonist in finding a way out of this world as well as keeping her own one save of danger.
I recommend this game!
