The game gets weirder and weirder as you progress to the end of the demo; which I struggled to get through. The graphics are really hand drawn and some locations are askew with a sloping floor. I just prefer a game with deep clear, computer gen. graphics like the game "Fright", that are more realistic, with a lot of contrast and shadows. I just can't stand a lot of the filters applied to a lot of these new games that make the scene look cartoonish. Most of the cutscenes were just concept art, still pictures put together to create "moving stills". I miss the cutscenes created in the older games that really push a good story in a game.
I did like the pop up book HOS in the demo.
I also love how this DEV puts a journal in-game (in all their games) to review the story, in the order of pick up notes and cutscenes happening sequentially (with a game timer in the journal). Unfortunately, the story is so bad here, there weren't many entries.
I don't suggest this game, but if you haven't already tried the demo for Whispered Secrets: Everburning Candle, another game by GS, be sure to try it. It remains one of the best games I've played on this site and I highly recommend that one instead.
I don't recommend this game.

I agree with all the reviewers that said this game is probably geared toward a young player. It has a cutesy children's book, fairy tale kind of feel to it.
If you like fantasy games where the people have added ears and tails, and is full of weird monsters then you may like this.

Unfortunately, those are all things that make me bypass a game. I would have preferred the characters to be actual people and this game would have worked more, but that's just me.
The graphics needed more contrast, dark depth shadows, to clarify the picture. The morphing characters were way to easy to spot.
The CE content was great though. The puzzle pieces were tricky to find and I liked looking for them. The 12 pc. puzzle also required you to spin the pieces so it took a minute to see the picture. The first (of 4 Screensavers) can be created with the 12 puzzle pieces you collect in this demo. The screensavers are a CE perk that always gets an A+ from me.
Most of the locations you play in are outside woodland scenes and rather pretty to spend time in.
This isn't a bad game~ but to me, it was just average.

The story held my interest long enough to get to the end of the demo. I still want to see what happens to the characters. It has a lot of different tasks keeping the player busy. I'll wait to purchase the SE because this CE doesn't offer screensavers.
I liked the final scene with the waterfall; very pretty. I love that you can turn off the "game effect" sounds in the options menu and adjust aspect ratio to make the scene a little clearer there too.
It isn't MHG best game, imo, not as polished or involved as Beyond: Light Advent or Maze: Subject 360, but I suggest to try the demo, it's pretty good.
I recommend this game!

I found this game really slow going. It doesn't have much story & there aren't enough characters to work with what story it does have. One thing it does have, in annoying abundance, is amulets. Each zoom window has at least two- layers of locks.
The locations you play in are dark, dirty and run down with the exception of a couple of scenes. I personally really dislike non scary Scooby Doo monsters with glowing red eyes.
There is no time of day change (in the demo at least) and the game is just way too dark making the player want to curl up in a dirty corner and nap.
This will be the first Elephant game I haven't bought as a CE in a long time. This DEV usually offers the jigsaw puzzle pieces you collect, in the CE, to create 4 Screensavers, which are enough to push me over into purchase of the CE and not just the 4 itty bitty puzzles that come with this CE (with 8 pieces or so...just why?).
I agree with other reviewers that don't like characters blocking the scenes in all the wallpapers. Too bad there isn't a "character in/out of wallpapers" in settings.
On the bright side, I did like the hidden objects scenes which had a lot of different types. I skipped most of the mini games, but I loved the one where you have to put the dogs in the right slot and took a lot of time to complete it.
So sorry for this negative review, but this new series is a thumb down from me.
I don't recommend this game.

BASED ON COMPLETED GAME & CE BONUS PLAY
I LOVED this game. I wish I could rate it higher than 5*. The story is SO thought out, and you don’t even learn most of it until you get some files in chapter 6. They look like authentic documents with life like photos. They were so incredible I found myself reading every little thing about each character to learn more of the story. The storyline is way more involved than the demo suggests; like reading a great book you don’t want to put down. This game will keep you on your toes until the very end. You think it’s going one way and a twist happens here and there. This DEV took the time to create the most incredible end to the main game. I actually did a fist pump (that caught me by surprise LOL) at the end of the main game. :)
I did a more detailed review under the CE page for this game in case someone may be interested about you might be missing in the SE- you may want to read that one instead.
The SE portion took me 3hrs 15min (my total game play for the CE version was 4hrs 05min).
I play on custom, @ a normal pace, and like to work things out on my own. I don’t like a lot of the fiddle type of MG and will skip them the second I’m frustrated. I adore HOS and play with penalty when I can- so it will take some ppl a bit more time than me.
So much time, effort & detail went into many things such as notes, articles, photos, as well as environmental sound effects with A+ voice actors. The people that did the background effects and the voice actors need to be commended. I’ve been playing games for years and this game did it the best I’ve ever encountered. Just before the demo ends you hear people shouting through the woods and it wasn’t just a first person voiceover with a mic. The way it was done here, the player feels a part of the action because the baddies voices are “off in the distance” and it makes the fear of the player heighten because you as the player feel like you are actually there with the action. Some voices sound far off and some sound like they are right beside you. I’ve never seen this done in casual gaming and it was PERFECT. You can hear the echoes off in the distance and other woodland effects. I even liked the game effect sounds which aren’t too loud or annoying; they are understated.
The graphics are incredible from the beginning to the end of this game. I adore when a DEV still make game scenes beautiful to play in (gorgeous waterfall and woodland scenes) despite being a paranormal/horror game while at the same time give the player a sense of urgency and fear. PERFECTLY DONE HERE! Inventory items are not held all that long so you actually remember where they go. The cut scenes were also done with care.
There were only a few things about this game I didn’t like. The first were metal animal traps (thankfully they were not used on animals). I just wish the game didn’t have them at all because in a perfect world they wouldn’t exist. The other, was the effects modulator applied to the bad guy’s voice over was a bit hard to understand. I wished the MAP was set up so you could click on it directly because as it is, it requires a 2 step process to open.
There is no journal/diary in this game and it would have really benefitted from one since the story was so well done. I prefer when a journal is provided (with the cutscenes added to the journal) because quite often I will wait to buy the CE on sale, or play other games in between and can’t remember the storyline from the demo to when I purchase the game. That creates a disconnect for me with the game in general. By having a journal, I am way more invested in the characters and story if I have a way to refresh the story to what I’ve played so far before buying the game.
I loved the color theme used in this game. Gray & natural tones are mostly used and they feel realistic, which again makes the player feel like they are in a more authentic environment as a whole. I’ve grown so tired of neon colors in games or oversaturated scenes from the beginning to the end of a game that has no change in the color scheme. I’ve noticed I want to buy a game ASAP that is using natural, realistic, colors that make it way easier on my eyes to spend a few hours looking at and that’s what I did with this CE, bought it right away.
If you liked this game, I thought these had some similarities, so you may want to try the demo here @ BFG:
1. Enigmatis 2: The Mists of Ravenwood
2. Shtriga: Summer camp
3. Paranormal Files: Fellow Traveler
4. Fear for Sale 11: The Curse of Whitefall
5. Phantasmat: Curse of the mist
6. Campfire Legends Trilogy
Thank you to BFG & all of you at Mariaglorum that worked on this. You should be so proud of this series!
I am such a fan yours, and can't wait for the next one.
I recommend this game!

BASED ON COMPLETED GAME & BONUS PLAY
I bought the CE version in a 241 sale. What pushed me over into buying the CE version is this game has 8 great screensavers which I really liked (not just wallpapers).
My actual final rating for this game would be: 3.8 of 5*
The SE portion of the game took me 2hrs 56min
The bonus play took me 1hr 06min
Total gameplay took me: 4hrs 06min
You save 4 souls in this game, and I still love that premise. There are 3 in the SE portion and 1 in the bonus chapter.
I noticed there are a lot of low reviews for this game because not much has changed since every other game in this series. I agree with a lot of those statements. This was definitely not the best RC in the series but I still enjoyed it to the end. I liked RC#1 Curse of the Raven, RC#2 Children's Plight & RC #3 Grave Testimony most in this series. If you liked the demo to this, try those too.
The earlier RC games had a diary that held the different storylines and that was missed.
The biggest downside for me was the replication of a harp sound every time you pick something up. That seems to be an irritant for me in all ERS/ Amax games as well as the background noises. I also wish there was a way to tweak the “rain effects” over a scene, in the options menu, because it makes it hard to see the scene clearly. Thankfully it only rained in a couple of scenes in this game. I've noticed after years of playing these games that an annoying repetitive sound (that can't be changed), is enough for me to stop playing a game series altogether in some cases.
I happen to love games with portals because I like when the time of day changes from the "basic color theme" throughout which I find is monotonous for game play in many games. This game does have the different colors, day changes and multiple storylines which I crave in a game.
The demo is not the best part of this game. I thought the base storyline was very weak in this game. I wish this developer would try something new such as current day characters and time periods as they did in their game Penumbra Hotel. I’ve noticed a lot of other players mentioning they are tiring of the same ol’ 1800’s garb we see in these characters. Sometimes I wonder if DEV put the game during those time periods because notes and articles take way less time to create so they can get a game out faster. But I for one notice the finer details in a game such as great cut scenes, reactive items that move when clicked on and detailed articles/notes that are kept in a journal. I will buy the CE to one because of those details that make gameplay feel more fleshed out. I especially like a well thought out storyline.
BONUS PLAY
Alex (the guy from the first scene of SE demo) asks you to locate his son (there is some possession & black smoke).
You continue collecting coins (8 more) and there are 4 more cards.
Where you play in bonus: There are 10 scenes of game play. 4 are OLD AREAS that we see in the SE and 6 areas of play are NEW scenes.
I counted 13 MG, 4 HOS, and 12 super easy “other games” (that didn’t have a skip button).
Some areas of bonus were better than the main game, such as a pretty area with a pond called "Forest". I liked the bonus play and feel if you liked the demo you will probably like the bonus chapter.
TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA HOW LONG BONUS PLAY IS....
The walkthrough guide is a total of 43 pages with 3 (long) chapters and 1 bonus chapter.
Actual gameplay takes up 40 of the 43 wtg pages.
The demo is Chapter 1- which is 8pgs compared to the bonus chapter which is 14pgs.
If you like this game, or games with portals and saving people in different chapters, try these here at BFG that I also liked:
1. Reincarnation Series
2. House of 1000 door series (except for the last one)
3. Sable Maze: Nightmare Realm CE
4. Whispered Secrets: Ever burning candle
5. I really liked the first 3 games in the RC series so be
sure to try them :)
I recommend this game!

I only played half of the demo but even that was too much for me.
The graphics stretch out on a larger monitor so much you can barely see the over pixelated search items. If you change the settings to its original windowed size the graphics clear up but then they are too small to see. The game play area is about the size of a tablet in windowed mode so I'd recommend playing it (if ever) on that instead.
I love the straight up HOGs like this and the find the difference MGs. I also liked the Yeti but as others have stated there is way too much dialog to click through as well.
There are just way better Christmas games to spend your time on here so all said and done, I wouldn't buy this for my tablet either.
I don't recommend this game.

This is a Garage Sale/Jumble/Mostly HOP type of game. It does have some M3 and MG too to mix it up and I adore this TYPE of game when it's done right.
If this game were re-made with crystal clear graphics it might be better. I've noticed the photo type of graphics work best with this genre.
It also needs more settings options. The graphics were so bad I needed to use hint several times due to item completely blending in with the one behind it that was the same color.
It has annoying music that I shut off right away. The silhouette items were nearly impossible to find because they could be anything in the scene; I hate that type of HOP for that reason anyway. All the locations were inside (during the demo) and boring to be in.
What should have been the best area of the game, "the design area" where you build your garden- was also awful and didn't have enough choices readily. As others have stated there was way to much dialog from the main character.
Be sure to read the review by "JadedBlond" for this game; it was so funny... "Mary Blah Blah" is a perfect name for the main character, and some of the other reviews for this game were really funny too. So thank you all for the great reviews!
Bummer this game lacked on so many fronts because I think this site needs more games like this type.
One of the biggest problems with Mary Knots: Garden Wedding is that this TYPE of game has been done SO perfectly it will be a challenge to match the quality of what is already out there in this genre. I should think fan base for this genre are familiar with the other games like this one and will compare them to the quality of this one.
That would need to be replicated when creating your next one I think and I bet it will be a major hit.

I played this 2011 game for the first time 11-18-2018 and I am just blown away by this game. The amount of love, attention and detail this developer used is astounding. Take the time to read the fun newspaper articles & notes that pop up every now and then. I got a few good laughs during this story.
Be sure to click on every little thing. The blue birds sing, the chicken jumps, the fish swims in the pond and items even move and react in the HOP scenes.
This is mostly an M3 but it does have HOS every now and then to earn currency to build and repair your farm. The "building farm area" is interactive- with perfect graphics. Butterflies and bluebirds fly all around. If you turn down the music you can hear all the happy environmental sounds.
If you click on the little characters they will reply to your requests to tend to different areas such as watering a garden or playing ball with your dog. They also have little thought/text bubbles.
I found it by playing Barn Yarn (by the same developer/ I'll add a link), which is a currency, customer, all HOP type of game and this game has the same characters with the same dog you can name in both. I recommend Barn Yarn just as highly and will be buying both ASAP.
Both of these games have a screensaver too for the price of an SE!
This game is an immediate buy and it's worth every penny. It is my new favorite M3 to date (along with Queens Garden Halloween, and Cradle of Egypt).

This developer should be so proud of themselves for creating a game that has this much detail. It is such a happy place to spend your time.
Its the type of game that I will play over and over and I will want for more than one device.
Please BFG bring more quality games like this! Look at its long time high ratings!! Quality, story, and details matter in a game.
I recommend this game!

I don't normally like games with werewolves but I realized I was having a lot of fun with the demo until the end of chapter 1. What a shame. I was about to purchase the CE until I entered the area that is titled "Cellar". It is a dark, sad place where animals are held in cages in the floor and walls. We are told it was once a holding area for gladiator games in ancient times (which is bad enough).
I play these games to get away from the depressing things in normal life. I am the type IRL that saves any animal in need; so I may be over sensitive to this area.
I just highly suggest playing the entire demo if you too prefer to see animals happy in these games. I'm sure you "help" and "save" them in chapter 2... but I wish I didn't have to see them in that condition to begin with.
PROS
This game was beautifully presented in Victorian England. The graphics, game play, characters, the music and the voice actors are all done wonderfully. I even loved the gray skies and moving carriages.
