BASED ON COMPLETED MAIN GAME
I think my end rating on this would be 3.8 stars.
It took me 3:05 hrs to finish this game. I completed a lot of the mini games (which were really good in this one). I am more of a HOP fan and usually skip a lot of the MG but took the time with the ones in this game.
I absolutely loved the special effects (mostly in the demo) and how scary some of them looked. The main baddie in this game is a hooded skeleton that looks like a Scooby Doo monster. It would have been cool to see a more realistic rendering for a baddie here, I think.
Most of this game is spent in an alternate reality that is dirty and dilapidated. There isn't as much "Halloween theme" here as much as a spooky focus.
That's fine too because I like both themed games and horror games.
The "black book" in this game is a dark magic ritual book. I really wasn't thrilled with the storyline. I may be more sensitive to this subject matter though because I'm an energy/spiritual healer in real life, so maybe it's just me. I didn't like some of the objects that were on the tables etc. that would be considered ritualistic and ultimately it's why I didn't buy the CE version in 2018. When I replayed the demo of the SE in 2021 I decided to buy the game and finish it. I did end up liking the main game but I didn't miss the bonus chapter here. I'm mentioning this because over the years, I've read several other reviewers not liking the games that have storylines with dark magic or ritualistic stuff. It's not over the top here but enough to mention it.
My favorite game in this series is Halloween Stories: Horror Movie. I highly recommend the CE to that one.
I recommend this game!

*** May contain a slight spoiler, but nothing major****
This SE took me 2hrs 17 min to finish.
(I play on custom mode and like to take my time and look around and read everything. I don't like mini-games for the most part but I will try them and skip the minute I become frustrated. I love HOS and will take the time to really search before hitting skip. I'm just letting you know how I play so you can figure out how long it may take you).
I feel this quote from the game sums up the game play.
"The Reaper is a creature of the world of the dead. He collects the souls of those who escape their death inside his lantern". I mention this because a lot of this game is spent in a dirty dark location dealing with this reaper. I wonder if the DEV actually read the reviews every day because one of the things reviewers hated in the prior Halloween Stories, and other games, are hooded evil reapers who steal souls, and gross or weird locations to spend their time in.
For a Halloween "themed game" I wish they would make a Halloween game called "Halloween Stories: The Haunted Hayride" Some friends going to on a fun Halloween Hayride (that turns out to not be fun because it's haunted) in fairground locations.
Another game idea, "Halloween Stories: Ghost Tour"- and have a who-done-it (a grounded mystery set in the city) as a group of friends goes on a haunted city ghost tour.
Other things I see many reviewers hate is "alternate realities" that contain weird monsters and flying furniture etc. If only they would create a game with a mystery, in a grounded location and drop all the weird monsters and dirty gross locations (that aren't scary in a themed game anyway).
Or... better yet, before Halloween give us a truly scary game such as True Fear: Forsaken souls or another game like Maze: Subject 360. It's been suggested to the DEV over and over that most players are over the age of 35 years. Many adults here are begging for a truly scary game that isn't just a point and place item that is "fluff easy". All of these DEV should play some of the older games and add maps.
I digress, but more on this game. When we aren't in the evil scenes we spend a great deal of time in a dark library full of broken objects. The locations and objects are "weird" so they aren’t logical as to where to use an inventory item.
I was laughing upon exit of one dark, deserted indoor location to find out my character had been carrying an invitation to a Halloween party the entire time! I was wondering why anyone would spend Halloween night in a place like this. So I think to myself... "Ok, cool here we go, party time! Yay, finally!" So I was ready to weep when I realize this party just isn't hopping. There was no one else there.
What kind of parties do these DEV go to? Ha ha.... There were just more empty locations with broken items, and another interaction with the reaper. The scariest thing about these areas was trying to figure out who entered this place and broke every little item?
In chapter 3 while in a dark deserted lab, your character has a black bar thought that says, "Right now, most of all, I'd like to see a fun party with friends". Yep! Me too! I think the poor script writer to this game had the same subconscious moment there. ;) Maybe next year?
I wasn't a fan of this game but I highly suggest these other awesome CE's Elephant did to play around Halloween. I own and completed all the CE's to these. And my favorite Halloween Stories was the first- "HS Invitation".
~ Haunted Hotel: Personal Nightmare- 5-2017(it has incredible special effects the entire game).
~Haunted Hotel: The X-11-2015 (also has great special details & affects the whole game).
~Grim Tales: Bloody Mary- 8-2013 (a darker theme that is played in GORGEOUS scenes, so it's worth your time to spend there).
~Haunted Hotel: Death Sentence- I loved this game. 12-2014
Have a great Halloween everyone. Stay safe!

The SE portion took me 3hr 8min
During bonus play the game froze on me in first scene saying "corrupted profile". I will replay the game one day to finish the bonus play.
I loved the different movie storylines which changed the location and time of day. The special effects were perfect giving you the feeling you were running around inside the movie.
I don't normally do achievements but this game has a great one where you need to find two black cats. I also loved finding these PERFECT photos of the characters’ lives throughout this game. All of the notes, articles and photos were amazing and beautifully presented.
Chapter 3 (pg 23 of wtg) has a HOS I loved where you put in a film reel and it plays a storybook type of HOP. The effects were great that you're playing within a movie. It has a great voice actor too that gave you the backstory of the haunted VHS tape.
Chapter 3 was my favorite chapter called The Summer Camp Stalker. I love games where you play in campgrounds.
I really liked this game and will play it again at Halloween.
I recommend this game!

This review is only based on the completed demo (which took me 1hr to complete).
Hi fellow reviewers! It's been awhile since I've written a review. I hope everyone is doing well. I completely agree with Pennmom36's review of this game (and if you read this, I hope you're ok and sending a hug).
I have been re-playing my favorite spooky game by Elephant, Haunted Hotel The X, for several days now and sidetracked a minute to play the demo for this game. This game is only "fair" at best & compared to "old Elephant" there just is no comparison. So if you haven't played Haunted Hotel The X, I highly suggest that game over this one for a great Halloween vibe.
The storyline for this game could have had real potential but it was just too discombobulated considering how short this game is so it ended up just being a little too "all over the place".
Considering this is a themed game I think I expected more of a Halloween-ish feel. The scene called "Forest" didn't feel like it even fit this game and felt like (along with the forest spirit) it was meant for another fairy tale game they may have been working on.
I will probably buy this as an SE. I would have bought the CE for the screensaver alone but realized it had game characters covering the picture. I'm just not a huge fan of characters covering the wallpaper or screensaver art. I also prefer when the screensaver is given to us up front so it can run as we are actually playing the game.
To see Elephant at their best (when they are given enough time to actually produce game) be sure to check out "Haunted Hotel The X". Even the mist, mirrors and windows have these little special effects the entire game. There are surprise details in the HOPs too that move and jump out at you. These added details are huge for me as to if I will purchase a CE or not.
Happy Halloween! :)
I recommend this game!

This older game (7-16-2012) took me 3hrs 40min to complete.
I loved the HOS. There are special things in each one, like putting a violin string on a violin and it plays a whole little song. Almost every item does something special like that.
There is a portal map to fast travel from spot to spot but you have to remember where to go next. The hint was super helpful because it drops you in the room/area you need to apply an item.
I needed the Blog Walkthrough Guide a lot. For anyone new, it's located on the game's main page. I had it open in the background by opening a new window and would exit the game with the window key (next to alt on the keyboard) to get in and out of it quickly while keeping the game running.
The graphics are incredible. I have always preferred the computer gen. graphics so items are never fuzzy and shadows & shading are realistic.
I play on a larger monitor and it has no aspect ratio adjustment so the game stretched a bit. I couldn't find anywhere to change that in settings but the game was fun anyway.
Chapter 5 has 2 MG I really liked. One where you sort colors of floppy discs and one where you grow and pick flowers (that keep growing) and you put them in corresponding baskets.
It has an incredible diary that is actually used to help you think through the game. Those were the days!
I recommend this game!

Based on the demo only
You play as 2 people in 2 different time periods while communicating through a mysterious diary that displays text from both time periods. What a fun premise.
You start as Louise Mitchell in the year 2000, and end the demo as a male named Robert Larson in the year 1985. Both of which are investigating a mine explosion; a crime that coincides at the same time in a small town in Maine.
My favorite thing about Domini Games is how they hide reactive items you can interact with in every scene. Be sure to click on everything in a scene to find all these treats. My favorites in the demo are seeing what happens when you click on a yellow dump truck (lower right of scene) in the area called "Blue Pines St." and eating a hotdog at the town's protest.
So much time was spent on detail and color of each scene. The color palette is a perfect mixture of realistic primary colors. Another thing I really enjoyed was the game takes place in modern times with modern objects.
As we first start playing my character, Louise, looks at her reflection in the car's side mirror. That alone made me connect with who I'm playing as and made me feel more a part of the action.
In one scene we get a kitten helper named Toby but he is only used once. I wish we were able to keep him (I especially liked he wasn't a talking cat).
Overall, the demo leaves you wanting more. It has a great crime thriller feel without any flying or gliding monsters and no cutesy animals that talk (in a game that's meant to be more serious). I think my favorite part of the game is playing during the daytime. I grow tired of games that every scene is the same exact color scheme at night.
I really liked this one. This game is a buy for me.
I recommend this game!

The introduction story is presented to the player in the form of one still cartoon scene after the other, with text the player reads. There is no movement to the scenes and no VO to narrate the story and I think it would have helped this game if that was changed a bit. The object of the game is to save Olympus and Greece.
When I first started this one I was ready to rate it 2-3 stars just based on aesthetics. In comparison to some of my other favorite aerial TMs I didn't like the character presentation here or the cartoon-like graphics. I just tend to prefer more of a CG vibe. My rating started to improve the more levels I played because it's a busy game with some nice features.
~CE content: It has a path numbered walkthrough guide, 8 music DL, 5 wallpapers, 3 concept art, and under the "collection tab" it appears to be 6 achievements that can be earned. I didn't see any puzzle pieces or anything to collect like some of these games have. It says it has 20 bonus levels. In the demo I could see 50 levels.
~Settings include novice, expert, & relaxed modes.
~ In options: If you turn the music down, there are no environmental sounds (like Incredible Dracula does so nicely). Instead you can only hear silence with the game effect sounds. I absolutely hated the the *nope, try again* game sound effect in this game.
~ I liked how this game has a red " ! " above buildings to upgrade and as you collect resources you only have to glance at a building to see the " ! " has turned green and you can apply your items.
~ Repair a Stadium: Like Garden's Inc.3, this game has a separate page where you build a few different Olympic buildings to improve your abilities in the standard game. Each of these buildings can be upgraded several times & they have stars to indicate what level of construction has been applied. You can choose what order they are upgraded too. I adored the way this DEV had us do character upgrades this way because it is so fun to have a building page in any game :)
I will may purchase this game if it is offered as an SE but the CE content just isn't enough for me to pay double. I liked this game but I just didn't love it as much as some.
I recommend this game!

(I got to level 11)
I've been trying many different offerings for this type of aerial TM lately. I came in to this chapter blind, not having played the games in this series that came before it. Level after level looks like the same area I just played in so it almost feels like you are replaying levels.
I found it fast paced but with very little curb appeal. Even the presentation of the game's main page is uninspiring. The graphics appeared to me as very low budget and bare boned on details. There are no fun items to interact with or look at and the characters are boring and without personality.
The map area is broken up into 6 islands of play and each part has 10 levels to play. 5 of these would be the main game and the 6th are the CE levels. Note the bonus island does not show the number of levels but I assume there are 10 because the other islands all have 10.
~Re Story: There comics that explain the story have no VO narration and they are very bland, static scenes with no movement.
~You will notice there are buildings in each level that will need upgrading. There is a helpful "up arrow" that turns from gray to green when you have collected all of the resources needed to upgrade it. I caught on quick you don't need to click those buildings until you see the arrow actually turn green. Otherwise it will do the "no" sound and redirect a dotted path to all the paths you must complete to get the items needed for that building's upgrade.
~One difference this game has that I haven't seen in others of this type is you need to get 2 of your characters to stand on 2 different "portal buttons" of the same color, at the same time. Doing this will open a portal your character goes through and it drops a gate that allows you to get to a previously blocked area. I did like that feature.
~Slots: In between levels you can play slots for character upgrades such as faster shoes, better weapons etc., but it doesn't always match 3 items the 1st try so you need to spin and spin until it does. I'd only have the patience to upgrade 2 items each level.
Another reviewer said there is a Strategy guide but I looked for it and never found it. I'm not the greatest at this type of game and I found it on the easy side. I wouldn't have needed the WTG anyway.
This game was quick paced enough to keep my attention to the end of the demo. All of your characters are busy and running.
From what the other reviewers are saying about the previous games in this series *compared* to this one.... I can't believe this series has lasted so long without anything new to offer and no SE to choose from.
This game has been out since Oct. 2019 and it is now Jan 2020 and it is not being offered as a SE yet. This game is definitely not worth the CE content in my opinion and I didn't even like it enough to buy the SE if it had one.
I don't recommend this game.

Recently, this type of aerial-task TM type of game is all I've been playing lately, so I have a really long list to compare this to.
It's so bad I'm not even sure where to begin. First of all, I'm surprised this is a CE to begin with. The gameplay feels like a newbie DEV created it. The CE extras are horrible. I'm not even sure why they added that attempt at concept art, it's as if it was added quickly to pad the CE content.
The gameplay itself is probably the worst I've played of this type of TM. This DEV should test a lot of the other games like this that are high rated and emulate those.
~It actually starts to go downhill at the profile selection. There is no place to choose level of play. No multi-clk, normal, relaxed play and ALL play is timed.
~ You actually have to sit, wait, and watch for the characters to finish a task. They hammer away sooooo slowly that you know you'll be sitting for a spell when you see a rock in the road :/
~ The number of items it says you need for something blocked doesn't match what your upper toolbar says you have, so you have to go back and pick pumpkins until the sun goes down.
It was so annoying to think you had enough of an item to get that beep **your wrong** game effect noise.
~The first few levels your BFF just lounges in the tent as you do all the work. If you try to upgrade the tent to get your friend out, you must restart the level because you don't have enough of an item to bypass the next blocked path.
~There are no fun details like I've seen in a lot of games of this type, no animals, no cute things to see, and all the levels look the same as the last. They are "area" grouped that way so you play several levels with snow (all of the demo)... then later levels are also grouped that way so the player gets bored of the scenery after playing one level in that area.
I was so happy when level 4 announced a bear. I thought ok, we are going to see a cute animal; cool. But nope, it's a chunk of carved wood.
The pacing is off too and you never connect with the characters.
The music plays over and over until you need to shut it off.
There are no environmental sounds (like Incredible Dracula does so well) so if you turn off the music it's just the game effect sounds.
This game just isn't fun to play. It almost feels like a game that was in the middle of production and they didn't add the details to make it cute and they forgot to test it for the player.
The graphics and sound effects are nice and at least it has a walk through guide.
I'm sorry for this negative review but hopefully all the players reviews will help improve this series.
I don't recommend this game.
