Elephant has long been my favorite developer, but that has now officially ended with this game. Their games are now nothing more than a badly done cartoon....and in this case a VERY BADLY done cartoon. Further this overall story is just ridiculous nonsense. Long gone are the excellent graphics quality and 3D-animated cut-scenes of their past games. RIP. As an aside, it's way past time for all of the endless "series" games to also die on BFG. It seems that's all we get anymore. Any semblance of originality seems non-existent with the exception of 4Friends games.
This game is mostly a disaster. I'm not sure what is going on with Eipix these days. Their games keep getting shorter and the overall quality keeps falling. I unfortunately bought this mess, but I didn't play for more than 15 minutes before uninstalling it.
I'll add my vote to the pile of positive reviews and say that this a really great game. The story is engaging and game play is fun. The graphics are well-done for the most part (although I think that all BFG developers could still improve a bit here). 4Friends has officially toppled the Elephant as my favorite developer. It seems this developer always finds a way to make a lengthy game that holds my interest through to the end. As always, I suggest giving it a trial to see if it's the right game for you.
I'll start by saying that I'm not normally a fan of this developer's games. That said, I find that I really like this game a lot. I'm currently about 60% through the purchased game. The sound and feel reminds of me of the "Haunted Hotel - Charles Dexter Ward" game, which was a great game from quite a few years back. The game play is similar to that game as well. It's somber and dreary but that fits the story well. The puzzle difficulty varies from easy to medium so far. Most of them are difficult enough to keep solving but not so difficult that I wanted to press the skip button. I also like that (for a change) you can't figure out the plot line from a mile away.
I made the mistake of buying this game. I played about half way through before I became so bored and disgusted with it that I uninstalled it. If you are looking for a game with ultra low quality graphics and voice-overs, this is it. If you're also looking for puzzles that a pre-school kid can solve and sketch drawings, you'll appreciate this game too. This will be my last Mad Head game purchase. I refuse to support this kind of rubbish passing itself off as a game.
I think it's safe to award Madhead the medal for most cartoonish graphics. They really need to ramp up the quality in the graphics area. This game definitely feels more like you're watching a cartoon rather than playing game. And let's not even get into the ridiculous tasks and kindergarten-level puzzle complexity. Just glad I used a coupon rather than purchasing it, although I feel like the coupon could have just been deleted.
This was a mediocre game. One plus for it is that it's a fairly long game. The female voice overs, however, were absolutely painful. BFG must look long and hard to find the most irritating female voice actors available. The biggest downfall with all Grandma games is the cheesy graphics and this game was no exception to that. Although it was better than I thought it would be, I'm glad I used a coupon to buy it.
To be honest, I bought this not expecting to like it. I've never been a big Eipix fan. I found this game to be surprising fun and it held my interest well. Some reviews haven't cared for the live acting, but I found that a refreshing improvement and more like the older BFG games. My one complaint is that the cut-scenes are mainly drawings. As an adventurer gamer of 20+ years, cut-scenes used to be the primary story mover of the game but now they just seem like filler. The cut-scenes also used to be a "reward" for solving the puzzles and using your brain to figure out what to do next. Now....not so much.
This has been a surprisingly good game. That said, it does have some serious issues too. First, it is EXTREMELY short, I have played less than two hours with no skips and I'm almost done with it. It seems many games on BFG have this issue and it's a big one. With graphics quality where it is these days combined with the cookie cutter plot lines and tasks, this is a 3rd major issue for BFG games. For the 2nd issue with this game - the puzzles can't even be called puzzles. I think a fairly smart young child could figure these out in a minute or two. If you can get past these issues, It's main redeeming quality is that it is fairly well executed game.
The graphics in this game is as good as they've ever been by this developer. I'm excited to see that at least one developer has refused to cut corners in this area. The puzzles are sufficiently challenging and the story line is excellent. The one downside is that the female voice-overs are really bad. The original voice for Susan only appears at the very beginning.
