I appreciated the innovation and the humor. It's almost like a new genre. However, it reminded me of the seek and find games we used to get as kids in Weekly Readers and Children's Activities that we outgrew after third grade. I'm not sure it's a genre that will continue to keep players interested after the first one or two and the novelty has worn off. Nevertheless, even though I didn't find it enjoyable, I think it's worth your giving it a try.
If I could award two and half stars, I would. Do not be fooled by the intriguing demo like I was. The story starts out interesting, draws you in, and hooks you. You want to know more. Do not be fooled. The end is Preposterous... the capital P is intentional. Thankfully, I used a credit to buy it. The early Haunted Hotel games were excellent and I own several of them. This one? Somebody's imagination got the better of them.
Why am I, the Master Detective, the one who has to repair everything, from the injured building manager, a computer, heavy metal mechanics and a welding torch, especially when there's an able-bodied worker (who I had to rescue) that just stands there telling me what to do. I agree with the reviewer who said the greatness of the earlier MCF was about people. I also didn't like the washed out blue-gray, unrealistic graphics, even granted there's an occasional splash of yellow in the hard hats. Disappointing given all the pre-release hype. I didn't want to even finish playing the demo.
The voice acting was awful. The artwork was just about average. The story... well, maybe it gets better as it goes along, but I'll never know. Even after giving it a second chance because other reviewers gave it high marks, I can't find anything that would entice me to spend even a nickle on this game. As always, try before you buy.
Quoting MMDGaston, "I lasted 8 min. before uninstalling this train wreck. I have zero idea where this game was trying to go as there was sooooooo much busy things to do just to get started. Sorry, not for me."
Eight minutes is about how long I lasted as well. I didn't know one thing to do without needing a hint. Definitely not my idea of a fun time.
I never played the original, but having read all the excitement about its remake, I gave this game a try. The result? I didn't know one thing to do without getting a hint. Literally not one, and I'm no newcomer to HO games. Nevertheless, the graphics are unique, and it seems it has something of a cult following, so I recommend you give it a try.

1. This may be the world's longest HOPA. I thought it would never end. 2. It would have befitted greatly from a transporting map. 3. So many repeated hidden object scenes. You visit each one at least three times. They're total junk piles. 4. There's an evidence board and a little sparkly thing on the right that flickers when you have to put up some more evidence. I hate evidence boards -- just useless busy work.
I guess that about it. I deserve a blue ribbon prize for actually finishing the darn thing.
