I like dark mystery games, and didn't really investigate this game before playing. I got into the Art Gallery before I couldn't take anymore. Your helper is a barbie doll that you are supposed to dress in different costumes to help you proceed through the game. Really. Maybe if I was a 10 yr old girl instead of an adult. The whole game is too cutesy and bland for me. Won't be playing another "Labyrinths of the World" game.
These "Surface" games would be so much better without the ridiculously awful human "actors". In this game there are supposedly winged people, so the "actors" get to jump up and down like they are flying. Wow, let's just say it is underwhelming. It could have been a beautiful concept if they had taken the time to draw them. The plot is rather insipid also, you get tired of super-hero-godlike-creator-genius Jeremy very quickly. There are several incredulous lapses in the plot also: e.g. at one point you have to get an injured person on a stretcher across a ravine, if you just click the place you want to be on the map you are magically there. Problem solved! The HOS are typical, the puzzles are just above average, at least they are creative. They also added the now requisite cute animal helper, although putting him in more scenes might have helped. The bonus scene added nothing other than the chance to collect enough bonus flowers to complete the "philanthropy" renovations. At least there are no sparkles on hardcore, but there are a few too many black box hints.
This review is based on the demo, couldn't make it any farther. I mainly dislike this game because there is no challenge. I selected "advanced" mode, which is supposed to give me no hints or sparkles. There were sparkles everywhere, from the HOS to the next place I was supposed to go. There are also annoying voiceovers that you can't turn off. The rest of the game seems pretty ordinary, a run of the mill "mysterious disappearance of your best friend". Skip this one.
This game has nicely creepy graphics, dark overtones, and interesting HOS. I really like the drawings of the items that you are supposed to find, makes it a little bit harder to find the items. BUT 1.There are way too many HOs, one after another after another, I never saw a puzzle in the hour I played the demo. 2.There is a homely little kid that pops up now and again and adds nothing to the game, why include that? 3.The plot is the overused "secret society that fights evil" hohum 4. When you need to use an item from your inventory, a picture of that item shows up over the area to use it, taking away any challenge. Too bad, I wanted to like this game.
Dark Parable games just keep getting worse and worse, at least from the perspective of someone who enjoys a creepy and challenging game. What makes this game a waste of money: 1.There is no challenge on hardcore mode. There are leading comments you can't turn off, e.g. you click on a clock with no #12 or hands and the comment is "This clock is missing a number and some needle like items...". Duh! 2. You can't turn off the voiceovers. 3. The HOS are FROGS, which I really don't like, and the pieces are not well hidden. 4. Part of the "fun"/extras of the CE is dressing dolls- enough said. 5. This game is not spooky, macabre, or creepy in the least. I would comment on the bonus game but coudn't make it that far.
You thought this would be just like any other investigation. But now you find yourself lost in a mysterious mansion brimming with strange creatures, comatose colleagues, and mysterious tentacles around every corner…
I should have learned by now: this developer puts out a great game like Green Hills Sanitarium, but then each sequel gets less and less like the first; more sloppily put together, and less fun. I'm getting a little tired of the octopus-man villian, he gets "beat" in every game but keeps coming back. This game has the usual HOGS and minigames, same old, same old. The collector's edition is NOT worth buying, as the collectibles are worthless and no challenge, there is also a mime hamster that is somewhat disturbing, not cute or funny. The bonus game plot is obviously copied from a Ravenhearst game, and not nearly as well done. If you've never played a Haunted Halls game, play the first 2, the others aren't up to par.
This is really a Christmas game, with a very hokey story and ditto for the bonus game. The developer really should have released it under a different name and left Redemption Cemetery out of it. Even on hardest mode, The HOS are a combo of straight HOS and FROGs, and very easy. The puzzles are mostly what you have seen before. The collectibles are easy to find and enable you to build a Christmas scene straight out of a snow globe. The awards are the trappings of a traditional Christmas dinner. In other words, the Christmas theme is done to death in this game, and I wouldn't have bought it if I'd known. It's not at all spooky, scary or gross (dang). The dialogue is pretty much out of a Hallmark classic, way too romantic and silly at times. Speaking of dialogue I turned off the voices but still got them during cut scenes, so had to mute them. As a Christmas story I'm sure it's fine, but not as a Redemption Cemetery game.
THANK YOU BFG for another fantastically creepy and macabre MCF game! It's a worthy sequel to Madame Fate, one of my all time favorite games. And you brought back the complex puzzles ala Ravenhearst, just love those! There is so much to do in this game: HOS, puzzles, puzzles in the black diary, extra things to find, a solitaire game, etc. There is also a map to jump around. The cat, Isis, is a unique animal companion, and the things you can buy for her are really fun, This developer really knows cats! Played on the hardest mode and loved that there was no hand holding. This game is so good, I almost forgive you for that dreadful Shadow Lake game.
This is an awesome hidden object game, there is so much to do it easily could have been a CE. The hidden object scenes are fun, and there are also "quest" objects that may or may not be in the scene, it keeps you on your toes! There are also several fun minigames, some you get as you proceed and some are connected to the HOS. This game is so fun I have played it several times, and discovered "bonus" things I missed before. Highly recommended for anyone who likes HOGs with extras. Can't wait for the next one!
The first in the MCF Ravenhearst series. I first played it years ago,and was immediately a fan.I have played it over and over since then. It's a very creepy, spooky HOG. Remember this was done years ago, so it isn't a HOPA like they put out today. The puzzles to get though the locked door are so crfeative and so much fun, I wish MCF had put them in all the Ravenhearst games. The plot sets up the series nicely, the next in line is Madame Fate, another game I highly recommend, then Return to Ravenhearst. The Ravenhearst series is the best creepy game series on the Big Fish site by far. Even though some of the other MCF games have disappointed greatly (like "game of the year" Shadow Lake) the Ravenhearst games have all the creepy, spooky, macabre fun you need.
