I was ready to turn it in at the third level because I kept coming up short and no way to get items I needed. I prefer straight forward puzzles rather than goofy "You need to do this earlier" Especially when even the guide couldn't help me out because it basically did it the way I had done it....Then I tried doing something earlier, and it worked...On the fourth attempt.
That and the whole scenery. I really liked the Tolkien style scenery of the first game compared to these more modern scenes...
As for recommending.....I'd play this one first I think. Then if you try the other versions your adjustment wont be as tough
I recommend this game!

Before this version I only did Mahjong occasionally> I really enjoy this game because of all the switches to the tiles and backgrounds.
The background sounds and music is totally different and a bit eerie at times. The music isn't bad, but then it cuts into some strange sound bounces that always remind me of some of the scariest movies I've seen involving poltergeists or suck in asylums. In fact they really need to use that sound track part in some of these so called "Haunted" HOG's to really make them seem haunted. #I never get over how lame so many games that are supposed to be in a scary environment have horrible music and sound effects that makes the games extremely tame#.
I really like this version and am often compelled to at least play on game of it before going to bed...Really fun to me.
I recommend this game!

I have all versions of this and after the last version that really was a bit different to some extent this version jumped back to the first two versions. As far as I can see there's really nothing different from the first two games other than the graphics might be a bit better.
So if you never tried the first two, then you might as well check this one out...
I don't recommend this game.

There's a lot going for the game. It has really nice graphics and fairly long game play. One of the problems I did have with it was the mega HO mini games. Don't get me wrong I like them, but not to the point that you run into one of them almost every time you enter a new area. I prefer a bit more diversity with other puzzles.
If you love a lot of mini HO's then this is your game because there's plenty and they can be challenging. In fact that was part of the problem. They blend things in with the darker colors so well that my older eyes had trouble locating them now and again. I like a challenge, and I don't mind clever blends, but I'm not too crazy about shadow blends with not quite as sharp vision anymore.
Still it's not a bad game....Just not quite for me
I recommend this game!

I really liked this game for a lot of reasons. One was that I had left it alone for maybe 6 months, but between the stratagey guide, and the hint button I was able to get back on board fairly quick without having to start from scratch again. Once I figured where I was I could figure most of it without help again.
The graphics are great, but the music gets a bit tiring after a while (Don't you just hate it when those tunes stick with you long after you're done playing?) Otherwise there's a lot of fun levels. By that I mean the developers don't try to be cute and hide things so many levels back that you either get bored running all over the place time and again or you need a walk though to get through. I like a challenge, but I hate a massive hide and go seek just because some programmer wants to be cute.
I have the whole Haunted Halls series and will most likely jump on the next addition soon as it comes out too. They really know what they're doing.
I recommend this game!
